8460w some (not all) USB ports not working

8460w running Windows 7 x64.
2 USB ports on left side of computer (as you face it) do not register anything at all when you plug something in.  All other ports seem in perfect working condition.
-Updated all USB drivers
-Confirmed nothing is shut off in BIOS
-Uninstalled all USB drivers, shutdown, removed all forms of power, held Power for 1 minute and let sit for 20 minutes
-Ran HDD, Start-Up, and Run-In diagnostic tests
-Replaced Systemboard
-Repeated everything with new Systemboard
There are no error windows, no popup bubbles in the system tray, and no problems in the system logs.
Literally at my wit's end here.  Can anyone think of anything else I can try?  Any ideas AT ALL would be great.
Thanks.

Hi,
the one of the left side are USB 3.0 ports. you may need to install USB3.0 driver and firmware before you use them.

    Hi,
What about if you try to install drivers from your product's page?
    http://uk.msi.com/support/mb/Z97-GAMING-5.html#down-driver
And when exactly it starts to fail to work? Did you try to have OS just installed, restart it and see if it works then? Are you able to determine which driver installation causes USBs to stop working?
    thank you
i just remove USB3 controller driver and work

  • All usb ports not working

All of a sudden ALL (front and rear) USB port are not working my G5 1.8
When I turn on the computer I get to the log on screen and natuarally I cannot
    use my mouse or keyboard.
Is there anything I can try to reset the ports?
Also, is there any way to foce the computer to boot from the restore CD
without having the use of the "C" key on the keyboard to do this.
Any help would be greatly apprecaited.

    Hi Tom,
Thanks for your help. I unplugged the power from the computer and even took out the internal battery and let it sit overnight. It still did not work.
I took the computer to the nearby Apple store today for repair. I was told that most likely the motherboard would have to be replaced at a cost of about $600.00!!!!!!!!
Then I was told that I should get a USB PCI card. I never thought of that.
That did the trick. My computer is working fine via the PCI card.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Help, 10.6.8 update, all usb ports stop working after 10hrs

I've been running 10.5.8 for ever and finnaly tried to update to 10.6.8.. After I did it, the usb ports all kick out any connected devises after around 10 or so hours. I ran of the install disk, using disc utillty, disk repair, and repair permisions a few times and it did not help.
I did the install a few times  again to try to see if it would help and didnt.
i tried an erase and install and migrated everything over from my orignal back up external drive that is running 10.5.8 and issue is still  there.
My old 10.5.8 back up external drive works fine and does not have this issue, and I have been using that as my start up drive instead and working from there. But that is not really a solution and a temp work around.
Any suggestions would really help. thanks!

I have a early 2008 macbookpro 2.8 duel with silver keys.
I purchaed the 10.6 disk from the apple store. I've had the machine for years and purchased it refurbished from apple.
I did the erase and install and migrated everything over from external drive, then did update to 10.6.8 and the usb ports still would stop working after a few hours.. Then I read on another apple community forus to reset pram, and pull out the power cable, take out the battery and hold power key for 5 seconds, then restart. that seemed to fix usb issue so far..
But overall my computer seems to be running slower then when using just 10.5.8 and it did not wake from sleep once and I had to force power off and restart.. But maybe its just getting used to 10.6.8. we will see..
Also, on another note, my battery is totally dead, and I can only run computer with power cable.. Will this affect things? it never did with 10.5.8..
Oh, on my erase and install, I just did the simplest version and did not do the full erase to zero using he advanced security measures.. I just did the one where it writes on top of everything..

  • Z87-G45 all USB ports stop working until I reboot

Hello everybody, This is my first post on these forums due to this problem, and I hope some people can help me out.
In February, I purchased myself a Z87-G45 motherboard along with all the other components needed to build a gaming PC, the build went brilliantly considering it was my first time!
About 3 months into my new build I started having problems with my PC, especially my USBs directly connected to the motherboard and the ones at the front of my PC as well, I have a back lit
keyboard and mouse and the lights started flickering erratically like it was being connected and disconnected extremely quickly, then after about 10 seconds of it doing that, they both stop working.
The lights on my mouse completely go out as if it had being disconnected but the keyboards lights are still on, but none of the keys work.
Sometimes I can do a 6 hour gaming session with my mouse or keyboard not playing up at all, but other times it happens within 5 minutes of booting up my PC!
My PSU failed at one point, and when I used a lower power PSU until my replacement came, none of these issues occurred.
I really want to get to the bottom of this because I cannot game while my peripherals are cutting out mid game!
    My specs are:
    Intel Haswell i7-4770k Processor
    MSI G87-G45 motherboard
    Nvidia GTX 780 Graphics card
    AX860 Corsair 860Watt PSU
    Seagate 3TB Barracuda HDD
    Sandisk 128GB SSD
    16GB Vengeance Pro Black 1866MHz CL9 Memory
    Windows 7

Can you download CPU-Z. Then check the Mainboard Tab in CPU-Z and check the what revision your Southbridge is.
I may be wrong but the USB disconnect after sleep was an inherent bug of the Intel C1 chipset which was corrected in C2. The initial boards all had C1.
It may be that yours is just faulty to the point that it started loosing the USB connection even though its not coming out of sleepmode.
Do check and let us know.

Sorry I missed this part in the initial read.
If that is the case, then it is also possible that you may have a defective PSU. The only way to confirm that is to run with another PSU for an extended period to ascertain if that is a consistent occurrence. If it doesn't happen, well then you know for sure it is PSU related. Also recheck all your connections from the PSU (especially the 24 pin connector)
Are your USB connections on the front panel or are you using the onboard USB connectors on the back?

  • USB Ports not working with specific devices

So this one has me scratching my head. My USB ports on the back of my iMac are working except for a few devices. 1 being a logitech USB receiver, and 1 being a usb mp3 player. When I plug the received into the iMac the keyboard won't work, but when I plug my USB hub into the same USB port and the receiver into the hub it works fine. The mp3 player isn't working in any usb/hub (so that's a mook point).
Here's what I've tried to resolve this issue:
    1. Reset iMac
    2. Reset PRAM
    3. Try every usb port on the back of the iMac
None of these have fixed my issue. Plugging it into the hub isn't a huge deal, but I'd like the option to use my USB ports as I wish without having to deal with this. Anyone have advice on a solution?

It is not a matter of using your USB ports as you wish, it is a matter of what you are plugging into them and the power demands that what you plug into them makes on the system.
Not all USB ports or devices are created equal. How many ports are you using? What exactly are you plugging into the ports? What is the power demand of each item that you are plugging into each port? Are any of the USB devices self powered from their own separate power supply? Are all of the devices dependent upon the iMac for power?
It sounds to me that you have too many high power devices demanding more power through the ports than the iMac can accommodate. Is the USB hub self powered? If so, that is probably why it resolves your issue with the Logitech Unified receiver. There is very little info on this device on the Logitech website, so I could not ascertain its power demands.

  • 975X Platinum - All USB ports suddenly dead

    Hello all,
Something similar happened to my previous motherboard (I wrote about it here).
This time though, it happened when I plugged in my scanner to one of the front panel USB ports. Windows displayed a USB power outage error kind of thing and all USB devices stopped working. I unplugged all USB devices. Plugging in any USB device now causes Windows to display the "USB device not recognized" message. Everything else seems to be working fine. Looks like some transistor got fried or something. Some people have suggested me to reset the BIOS and unplug all cables from the motherboard and then trying again. Have to do that yet.
But this USB ports dying thing is really very annoying. I feel that if I buy a new motherboard, it would die the same way some day. This is bad. For the time being, I have installed a PCI 4-port USB host adapter to fulfill my USB related needs. If it serves me well, I think I would continue using my motherboard without it's USB ports working. I think it's far better than getting the whole thing replaced (retailers are really sluggish here and RMA could take 1-2 months to arrive). Basically, the whole situation just sucks as it is!
Has anyone else faced similar problems?

OK ... finally problem solved! Woohooo! Here's what I did:
I was almost fed up. Two of my IDE HDDs (connected to RAID controller) stopped showing up in My Computer (and device manager). I decided to flush the board off all it's power. I unplugged the PSU, disconnected all power cables from devices and the motherboard. Removed RAM sticks, and finally, removed the CMOS battery. Reconnected everything back, and voila .... all USB ports started working! Also, HDDs appeared back in Device Manager. I had lost all hope! Talk about miracles! If anyone else faces this problem, be sure to try what I did. It might help.

  • LOST ALL USB PORTS

Hey guys, really hope you can help cause I'm new at this.
Just put together this brand new rig with Vista Ultimate, well here are my specs :
    MSI975X mobo
    4GB Corsair PC6400-800MHz RAM
    WD 320GB Caviar HDD
    Spire Pininfarina case
ASUS Radeon EAX1950PRO 256MB graphics card
Everything was running fine 5 minutes ago, when suddenly, after plugging in my digital cam to transfer a picture onto my HD, I lost ALL of my USB ports (front-2, back-6-including those on the D-bracket). I have no idea what happened but I was using a USB keyboard and USB mouse (diNovo Edge-Bluetooth, and Cordless Trackman-USB). Basically, when I plugged in my cam, the keyboard and mouse froze (then I realized that all USB ports had been lost, so it wasn't the keyboard and mouse at all). I had to restart the 'puter with the case's restart button, and then at the POST screen it said that there were no keyboard detected (of course). Then I had to take out an old PS/2 wired KB to reboot and enter Windows, and that's the KB I'm using now (along with an old mouse, PS/2 as well). I can't tell you how stressed out this makes me, because I have no idea what is the cause, and almost no experience at putting computers together. I think I installed everything correctly (the 9 & 10 pins on the USB headers are not used - my case included the correct connectors and I didn't have to unwire or cut anything), and all USB ports were working absolutely fine up until I plugged in my cam (in fact, I had plugged it in previously, and everything went fine).
    Can anyone help me?
Thanks in advance to the kind soul who will be able to provide me with advice that will solve this problem, which I hope isn't too bad.
Oh, and yes, the USB keyboard and mouse were both enabled in the BIOS.

where do you plug your d-cam? front panel or back panel's USB port? If front panel, that means the port comes with the casing, not with the motherboard. MAke sure that your wired the USB cables correctly, and watch out of the 10th pin on the board, it is the OC pin (overcurrent). If your casing does not support this pin, don't plug it.
No, my case's connectors have the correct configuration. The 10th pin doesn't have any wiring on it. But thanks for the input. By the way, how's life in Malaysia? I see you're from Penang... I'm fascinated by Kuala Lumpur for some reason. I'll be visiting your country as soon as I can, and particularly KL.

  • USB ports not working at all - C655D-5048

Please help me. This is driving me nuts!
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium (x64)
    Model: Toshiba Satellite C655D-0548
    Actions already taken:
    - System restore (twice)
    - Uninstalling all USB ports via Device Manager
    - Resetting the BIOS to its original settings
    - Updating the BIOS
    - Remove AC PS and battery, hold down power button for more than thirty seconds
    - Change in Power Settings - Disable USB disabling for power
    Worth noting:
Last night, everything was working fine. Today, I updated CCleaner and cleaned most of my files and useless registry values. I noticed the problem with both USB ports when I realized my iPod was not charging, and it would not connect at all. I tried all of the above to no avail, and hibernate the computer. I come back home, resume it, plug in my mouse, and it starts working again. I plug in my iPod, says it is connected, but it is not charging. 10 secs later, both ports die again.
Another thing worth noting here: When I start the computer with my mouse plugged in, my mouse would light up for half a second, and then shut back down.
I have absolutely no idea what else to do. Is it software? Hardware? I bought this computer on July 28th, 2010. I will be taking it to a local store so that I can give it a review. But, please, has anyone solved this issue? Any tips?
    Thanks!!

Here's your model's downloads, specs, user guide, etc, page:
    Satellite C655D-S5048
If you haven't done it yet, make sure you have made copies of your Toshiba Recovery disks. Click 'Start - All Programs - My Toshiba - Recovery Media Creator. Follow the on screen instructions. You'll need 3 blank DVDs. See bottom of page 68 of your user guide.
Next, I would normally try to reload your chipset drivers, the USB drivers are usually part of this.  But, both your model's downloads page, and the European model's page, do not have a seperate chipset driver.  However, your specs show you have an AMD graphics card that is part of the AMD chipset. These things seem true for the whole 'family' of similar models.
So, I would reload the AMD display driver, and hope the chipset drivers are part of that package:
    AMD Display Driver
If this doesn't work, backup all your own user files off your hard drive. Then run the Toshiba Recovery program, to return your unit to its out-of-the-box state. You can do this when powering up your system by holding down the '0' zero key until you see the Toshiba Recovery menu. The instructions for this begin on the bottom of page 59 of your user guide.
Let us know what happens. Good Luck.

  • Installed Windows & 32 Bit But Drivers and USB ports NOT WORKING.

I bugh an HP Pavillion TS 14 Notebook that came preinstall with Windows 8.1 64 bit which I hate so wiped the drives and installed Windows 7 32 bit and now I have a big problem.  None of my network drivers work and the 2 uSB ports where I plug my mouse and other SB hardware in no longer work.
I did a back up of the SW Set up file that has all of the HP dvers for my laptop but both the network and video divers won't install. And When I try to install the drives I get the eror message saying they are not compatible with this version of Windows.
I have loked on the HP website under my laptop model which s as above but HP don't do drivers for Windows 7 32 for my laptop. And I have looked on both the Realteck website for both the Realteck ethnet and Realteck wireless network drivers but none of them work or install on my operating system. The video drivers Intel don't work either. So I am really stuck a I cannot go back to Windows 8.1 as though that 32 bit Windows 7 would work on my laptop but most of my drivers are not compatible with the operating sytem And I don't want to install 64 bit Windows as I like 32 bit.
The drivers that are not working on Windows 7 32 bit are:
    Realteck RTL8188EE 802-11b/gn witeless lan
    Realteck ethnet die and
    Intel High definition graphcs driver
Which don't work at all on Windows 7 32 bit as they are 64 bit only drivers.
So can you please post me a link bth the network and Intel graphics drvers that work with my laptop. As I have tried lots of different Realteck and raphics drivers for Window 7 but NONE of them work on my system. And None of my USB ports are working either. So how do I solve this problem?

    Hi:
Should be no problem to get W7 32 bit to work on that model.
Just use all of the drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G0 on your model except the Audio, BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver only.
The first driver you have to install is the Intel chipset installation utility and then reboot.

  • G6 Pavillion 2230sa USB ports not working

Hi, this is my first time posting anything on these forums
My G6 Pavilion 2230sa is running Windows 8.1, and for the past week the USB ports haven't been working at all. Not only are any devices not recognized by the computer, but they aren't powered (ie Phone, tablet won't charge from the usb ports.) My xbox 360 wired controller is completely unresponsive (lights not coming on), as is my mouse. This applies to all three usb ports, I'm not sure if its a software or hardware problem.
The problems started after taking the laptop on an aeroplane. (one of the hinge casings has also popped open and won't close, but it seems to be just cosmetic damage. I'm no expert though.
I've tried restarting, removing the battery, and restoring from a system image dating from before the incident; no change.
Any help/assistance anyone can offer me will be much appreciated; not having usb ports is a real inconvenience, and being a student I don't want to have to buy another laptop.
    Thanks for reading.

Some things appear to have changed since I last posted yesterday:
The USB ports on the left now work intermittently- my USB powered cooling mat runs steadily then powers down, and then powers up again. My xbox 360 controller also shows power throughout startup, but the lights flicker and I haven't been able to see if it works in a game yet.
The USB port on the right still does not work.
These changes happened after the computer froze, and after installing some windows updates- nothing shows in update history though. Upon restarting, the usb devices showed the signs above. But then the BSoD appeared, listing "WDF_Validation" as the problem. Windows restarted automatically, leading the the situation now, where the cooling mat runs most of the time, and a light occasionally flickers on the xbox controller.
This raises my hopes that it is a software problem, and not a potentially very costly hardware problem.
Thanks for reading this, I hope it helped.

  • Touchsmart TX-2 fingerprint scanner and USB ports not working

    Hi everyone,
Please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot.
Just sent my laptop (Touchsmart TX-2 1015au) off for a warranty fix - told them the USB ports weren't working on Windows 7, 64 bit. It came back wiped, running on Vista 32 bit and.....with the USB ports not working.
I figured I'd try to get it working because I need my laptop for uni and can't send it back right now. So I clean installed Windows 7, 64 bit again and its still not working. Did the standard open device manager and uninstall everything under the usb tab. All that has resulted in is causing the fingerprint scanner to stop working (being told that it is not connected) and still no working USB ports.
All advice really welcome and very much appreciated!
    Thanks in advance

  • USB ports not working after OSX 10.9.1 update

    I have a late 2011 MBA 13".
The 2 USB ports stopped working as soon as I updated to 10.9.1.
I tried zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC.
I even turned the thing off for hours and still nothing.
    Any idea how to fix?
Everything was fine until I did the update.
    Thanks.

This is not a known bug affecting 2011 MBA computers with 10.9.1 so there is something wrong with your installation. Since zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC did not work I suggest that you try one of two things but first make sure you have backed up your computer.
    1) download Mavericks and reinstall it. Sometimes an update goes awry and a reinstall fixes it. Since doing this won't disturb any of your data or applications it would be my first choice. You'll be downloading 10.9.1 so you won't have to perform any updates.
    2) boot into the recovery mode, erase the hard drive and then download and install Mavericks. Once Mavericks is finished installing you'll be asked if you'd like to migrate data and applications from a backup. Say yes and if your backup drive isn't already connect it, do so. Select your applications folder and account folders from the list and let the Setup Manager do its magic.
BTW - this is why one of my several backup hard drives is a cloned backup using Carbon Copy Cloner (SuperDuper! Is another good choice). I can boot up my computer using this backup and download the newest version of Mavericks on it if I haven't already done so. I always quit the installer first and make a copy of it because the installer program deletes itself once it is finished which is something of a pain. It gives me more options including being able to boot my computer with it, erase the computer and copy the installer to the computer rather than having to perform the download all over again if step 1 fails. Since I always download a new copy of the OS when Apple releases an update this computer will have the newest version of the installer so I also can skip the download step of option 1 and just copy it over and install on the computer.

  • Usb port not working in Mavericks

Now that I've upgraded to Mavericks, my USB ports don't seem to be working, ie I cannot connect my devices (iPhone 4s and iPad 3) to iTunes. Any help out there?

Hi all!, I'm experiencing the same problem here, but resetting both SMC and PRA/NVRAM had no effect: USB is still non working. It's a fresh installation of 10.9.5 on a brand new HDD (no other HDDs attached), and I have no BT to attach another mouse to, so I can't even operate the machine. The system responds to other inputs (the clock ticks on, and if I press the power button it asks me if I want to shut down), but will not see any USB device (keyboard, mouse, ext. volumes... nothing).
Note that USB ports are FULLY functional during boot (e.g. during the boot volume select screen) and under 10.6.8 (that sits in another HDD currently detached). The only quirk is that the machine does not want to BOOT from a USB drive (it lets me select the drive, but it will not boot from it eventually).
Where should I look for the problem and/or the solution?
Any further idea apart from the resets?
    Thanks!
