848P NEO-LS SATA (Native Mode) - Cant Install WinXP
Okay guys -
I have a 848P Neo-LS which seems to be somewhat rare on this site in the support sections.
Its a brand new board and looks very fancy. I have a lot of experience with PC's as I repair them on a daily basis however this is my first adventure into the land of SATA.
To go with my lovely new MSI motherboard I have purchased a 120GB SATA Hard Disk.
In the BIOS for the motherboard under "Intergrated Peripherals -> On-Chip IDE Configuration" I can choose to operate the On-Chip ATA in either legacy or native mode. According to the manual that came with the board for Windows XP, I should use Native mode (which is exactly what I want as it allows for 6 ATA devices, as opposed to only 4 with legacy mode - im using a mix of SATA and P-ATA devices).
When set to Native mode and booting the Windows XP Pro installation CD, it gets so far then I get a blue-screen warning me about a possible harddisk problem?
But if I set it back to legacy mode and boot the Windows XP Pro installation CD, everything goes through okay and I can choose to begin installing XP if I wish.
However I want to run in Native mode as this will allow me the mix of SATA and P-ATA Harddisks that I want to run. The manual provided with the MSI board also instructs me that this should be possible.
Its not working - what is wrong???? From my knowledge of NT based operating systems im guessing I need to press F6 during the installation CD boot sequence and insert a driver disk for the SATA controller? Although it seems strange that this works in legacy mode - perhaps I have answered my own question here and that isnt the problem?
Or maybe I need a BIOS update, or maybe something entirely different????
Can someone please answer my question as I would love to get using this wonderful new PC.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

You don't need to install any SATA drivers for your board. I suspect a compatibility issue with the HDD or on of the other SATA/IDE devices you have connected. I would do the following:
Search the Maxtor site for common issues with your model#
Install XP in legacy mode and then switch to native mode as suggested above. I have switched back and forth between modes with no trouble.
If you still get problems,
1. Update to latest BIOS if one is available. Most new Bios'es on the newer boards include fixes to compatibility issues with SATA devices and memory.
2. Try installing XP with only the HDD and a generic CDROM or CDRW attached. If this works, install the other devices back one at a time and test to rule them out as the culprit.
With a recent Bios and your setup I would set On-Chip Config:
Native mode
SATA Only
Keep PATA active-Yes
Both channels
Leave rest at default.
Hope you get it working.

848P Neo-V Bios on chip IDE Configuration
Can someone advise me on the proper setting for the 848P Neo-V IDE configuration when using only IDE devices. I am not using any SATA devices. Should I be using the Legacy Mode or the Native Mode for the On-Chip ATA Operate Mode ?
I am aware when using any SATA devices that Native Mode is the correct setting. When just using IDE hardrives and IDE DVD-Roms should I set this to Legacy ? There is no real clear rule to this as I have searched all over the Internet and can't seem to get a definitive answer. Any advise is appreciated. You should find alot of answers in this forum. It is similar to the 865PE and 875P Neo setup.
Native Mode
SATA Only
PATA Keep Enabled
PATA Channel Selection (Both)
Set SATA as RAID (No)
The rest as defaults. -
Is it possible to publish reports to SharePoint if SQL Server 2012 reporting service is on native mode?
How to do it?
I have SharePoint 2013 and SQL Server 2012. I have created cube and reports with its data tools. This is single server environment.
This is what I have done:
A) I can successfully see from SQL Server installation tool that "Reporting Service-SharePoint" and "Reporting Services Add-in for SharePoint Products" are checked.
B) I don't see Reporting Services under the Manage Service Application of the SharePoint Central Admin.
c) When I choose report from reporting service project and I click deploy, it asks Reporting Services Login, but it does not accept admin logins. Server path should be valid.
I got idea from following instruction that I should register and start the Reporting Services SharePoint service
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219068.aspx
C) I tried to run command Install-SPRSService, but it was not recognized cmdlet command.
D) I see from Reporting Service Configuration Manager that Reporting Server Mode is Native. Report Service Status is Started.
Kenny_IHi Kenny_I,
Since the release of SQL Server 2012, Reporting Services SharePoint Integrated mode has been changed from a Windows Service to be a SharePoint Shared Service. In this way, Reporting Services Configuration Manager no longer supports Reporting Services SharePoint
mode, and all the configurations of SharePoint mode is completed using SharePoint Central Administration.
In SSRS 2008 R2 or lower version, only one report server (either native mode or SharePoint integrated mode) can be active at one time in one SSRS instance. In SSRS 2012, the report server that runs in SharePoint integrated mode and the report server that
runs in Native mode work separately at the same time in one SSRS 2012 instance. So, in this issue, you don’t need to care about the report server that runs in native mode when you work with the report server that runs in SharePoint mode.
First, please install SQL Server 2012 SP1 which introduces more BI features.
For the issue you encounter when running the commands to register the Reporting Services SharePoint Service, it may occur if you run the commands in the Windows Powershell instead of the SharePoint Management Shell. Please launch the SharePoint Management
Shell by clicking Start-> All Promgrams -> Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Products -> SharePoint 2013 Management Shell. Then, please continue the steps in the following document or blog to create a Reporting Services Service Application:
Install Reporting Services SharePoint Mode for SharePoint 2013
Installing and configuring SQL Reporting services on SharePoint 2013
After a SSRS Service Application is created properly, to deploy the project to the SharePoint integrated mode report server, please see the project property settings in the following document:
Project Property Pages Dialog Box

Are there any module for my ide-atapi dvdrom that arch doesnt load at boot??? If someone know about that I will be very happy -
okay, i currently had a raptor 74gb, i just bought a 250gb wd sata II hard drive, when i stuck that drive in, i loaded up the setup files, quick formated the drive, and then when restarted, it woudnt load windows setup to install XP, it said "coudnt start because file is missiing or corrupt....<windows root> \system32\ntoskrnl.exe, please reinstall a copy of the above file....
thats wierd, i dont know much about computers, i have installed and formated before with the same cd, so it must be able to copy files from that cd, it isnt damaged, maybe its the SATA II drive, can i please have thorough advice, i dont understand that good like details of how to copy that file from the cd to and place it in the directory if needed upon loading setup underr recovery console...
maybe im running wrong bios version, maybe i have to reset to default 1.4, i have 1.b atm , how do u reset to orginal bios version, that could be the problem
please asap, im running latest bios on msi 7125- msi k8n neo4 platnium board..
i dont think these board support SATA II drives.. and i have the latest bios so whats wrong???
thankyou so much!Hi guys,
I've got exactly the same problem - and, you're not alone - there are lots of people out there with nForce4 boards and SATA-II drives that do not work in SATA-II mode. I just built a new system using the Neo4 Platinum, Athlon 64 X2, and a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 250 GB SATA-II drive. I've talked to MSI and Maxtor, both of wich have no solution for this particular problem.
The Maxtor drive will only work in SATA-I mode (1.5Gb/s) by manually changing the "J4" jumper. Otherwise, the system locks when running in SATA-II mode. I have the system running fine at SATA-I. I was able to install Windows XP, and everything runs great -- except for the SATA-II mode.
On the Maxtor site (https://maxtor.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/maxtor.cfg/php/enduser/popup_adp.php?p_faqid=2685&p_created=1136595488) Maxtor acknowledges a problem with nForce 4 and Maxtor drives.
This same issue occurred with some previous drives, which a firmware update corrected this issue. However, with the drive I have, it has the latest firmware according to Maxtor support. I'm still waiting for a solution to this one... Perhaps is simply a matter of a BIOS and/or driver update from NVIDIA. I've read that some figure it's a problem with NCQ... but, there is no solution - yet. I'll keep you posted if I find out any more.
Good luck! -
Cant boot computer with 848P neo-v mobo
Hello
I've got a pentium 4 computer with 256ram and an MSI 848P Neo-V motherboard. Yesterday I tried to start up the computer without anny problem. I notice that my mouse and keyboard don't work. I press the reset button but it doesn't work. Suddenly I got a black screen. Since the i'm unable to boot the computer. If I press the start button the fan's are working the Hard disk is spinning the processor fan is spinning.
But that's it nothing on the screen. :(
So I went looking for the problem I cleared the cmos settings put in a new battery. tried new ram, New harddisk, new Graphics card, new power supply But its still not working.
The only strange thing that i'm noticing is that the red led at the front of the case stay's on. Normaly it flashes when the cpu is working but it stay's on.
It also seems like the computer Is looking for a dvd.
Is the motherboard dead or is there a problem that I did not think of.
Thx
Btw: sorry for my bad englishHello Realiks,

Help Promise 378 Sata (non raid) Windows install
Ok I am now atempting a fresh WinXP install on my new WD Raptor.
The Problem being that XP setup does not see my Sata drive.
After F6 it gives me the following choices...
"Win2000 Promise Sata378 Controller"
"WinNT Promise Sata378 Controller"
"Win Server 2003 Promise FastTrak 376/378 Controller"
"WinXP Promise FastTrak 376/378 Controller"
The Obvious selection #4 has been tried multiple times, it never see's my Sata drive.
Options 1&2 give error as I did not copy Win2000 and WinNT folders on floppy.
Is XP based on NT or 2000? I dont remember.
Floppy was made according to "makedisk.txt in the 378_55.exe.
Ive tried multiple Bios settings under "On chip Ide configuration"
If you read my earlier post I had a problem with my current Windows install loading raid drivers by default. I think Xp setup is doing the same thing. How do I get it to load Sata drivers instead?
Thinking Promise or MSI (whoever) should have gone to the trouble of configuring seperate files, ie. 378_Raid.exe 378_Sata.exe!
Yes I have Changed boot order to the sata drive. Order is floppy, CD, Sata, Other (yes).
Tried legacy and native modes, Sata only and both etc. etc.
Still think the problem is with the floppy. Probably the "txtsetup.oem" file. But Im not enuff of a wizard to edit it proper.
Check the sata configuration in bios.
I set it in auto (it has auto, disabled enhanced and one more option,i don't remember)
or a 848p neo2-v board and it worked!
If you don't see it recognised by your bios it won't be recognised by windows either!
So don't bother letting it start the boot from cd unless you can see your drive in the bios.
What i suggest is that you continuously press delete at boot,
go into bios, change some settings, press F10, reboot, press delete again and if you still
don't see your drive,try others settings,press F10 etc.
Go into boot from cd,that is, xp installation ONLY AFTER you can see your drive in bios. -
As said - no control of the damn fans (Case/CPU) on my 848P Neo-LS. On the CoreCenter the button lits up on mouseover, but when pressed, nothin' happens (as said in manual, press to toggle user/auto modes for fan control).
Also CoreCenter doesn't show the Case fan's speed, but Northbridge (NB fan) fan's speed, which is obviously 0. Also NB temp is N/A. Also +12V is N/A. Also the FSB stays always at 101 Mhz, not 100. No overclocking done.
Today upgraded the CoreCenter to the most recent vers (1.7.0.0.), and the button doesn't lit up anymore...?
When I installed SpeedFan 4.17, it allows me to control the Case fan's speed from 2300 - 2700, but nothing more. Interesting.
CPU - Celeron 2.0
RAM - 256 MB Kingston
CPU Fan - OEM intel fan A80856-003
Case Fan - MJ 802512
Both fans with speed sensors, of course.
Should I update the bios?
Help somebody! To be sure I opened the case and stopped the fans by hand (I don't use the corecenter prg - piece of crap), to see that i have mistaken both fans (in SpeedFan prg). The one who varies by 400 rpm is the Cpu fan.
Doooh.
The bios health screen doesn't show +12V at all - just aint there...
The MSI tech support sez - flash the bios, and if anything doesnt change, the CoreCell chip has gone (faulty, whatever).
Flashed the bios (1.0 - 1.9 now). No changes. -

Getting errors when trying to build this, it seems to rely on something already being in /usr/lib/modules/3.10.3-1-ARCH/build
Does this rely on some kernel source package or something?

Looks like it: linux-headers package. Could that be added to the dependencies, please?

[875P Neo Series] SATA help for 875 Neo FIS2R
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me. I am trying to install an Hitachi SATA HDD (Deskstar 7K250) to the system listed below. I tried to install the drive on SER1 but when I tried to install the installed the Intel IAA driver it said “no compatible hardware found”. I then tried to install the drive on SER3. I installed the SATA 378 driver, which asked me to restart my computer. I shut down, connected the SATA to SER3, and turned on the system. All seemed fine. I went into disk manager to initialize and format and that’s when the system restarted itself. When it restarted it said “error loading OS”. I restarted the system and opened the BIOS. Under the boot from section I noticed the C: drive that XP is on the name was “Maxtor” to something like “Maitorllll?????” I tried to repair windows to with the SATA drive still attached and the system started fine until just before the desktop would appear when the system restarted. I unplugged the SATA HDD and then had to repair windows again to get the system working.
Does anyone know what’s going on?????????
Here is my BIOS setup:
Integrated peripherals:
USB Controller – enabled
USB Legacy – disabled
On-board Chip IDE – Native mode
P-ATA Only
SATA keep enabled - Yes
PATA keep enabled – No
PATA channel – Both
Combined mode – PATA 1st channel
SATA ports – PO-1st/Pi- 2nd
Configure RAID – no
CSA Gigibit – auto
Onboard 1394 – enabled
Promise – as SATA
AC’97 – auto
CD151OK, Not sure the state of everything now but this may help:
1- You don't need the IAA driver unless you enable the Intel controller "as Raid" in the Bios. It senses this and that's why it says "no compatible hardware" If the SATA ports are enabled in the Bios(your settings indicate they are) then you just need to format/initialize it like any other drive.
2- You indicate you have "PATA Keep Enabled" set to no. This should be set to yes for your IDE1 & IDE2 devices to work. The other settings on this menu look OK
3- The "Promise As SATA" should be changed to "Disabled" if you have nothing on Serial 3&4
It would help to know where the OS is installed. It sounds like it's on the IDE1 port(Maxtor).
I think you should should start by:
- temporarily disconnect the extra drive controller card
- check all the remaining drive power/data connections and reconnect the new drive to serial2
- re-enable the "PATA keep enabled" to "Yes"
- Set Promise Controller to "disabled" if nothing on it now.
- Look for a Bios setting called "Clear NVRAM" and set "yes" (It will reset to "No" after the next reboot which is what you want)
- Save Bios and reboot but re-enter Bios immediately.
- Check the "select boot order" menu and make sure the drive with the OS is before any other HDD's
- Save and reboot.
Hopefully if the OS is still intact, you'll be in it again and can use Windows drive manager to see, format and initialize the new SATA drive. Again, you only need IAA if you are using the Intel Raid controller. Also keep in mind that the SATA drive might bump all your other drive letters (from the Adaptec card) up by one so if this is a concern, just get the OS up and running then re-attach the Adaptec card and finally the new SATA drive.
Hope it works out! -
MSI 848P Neo-V (MSI MS-6788)
Hi,
Sorry for bringing a question about kind of prehistoric motherboard, but it still do the job for me (for now).
I have upgraded my hard disk to a 500Gb Samsung (SAMSUNG HD501LJ), which SATA II. I knew very well that my motherboard does not support SATA II and only SATA I.
However, as I wanted to check the HDD, I noticed using HWINFO32 that the HDD details about transfer mode are as follow:
Ultra-DMA Mode: Total: 7 (SATA), Active: 5 (ATA-100)
So of I understand well, although capable of running in SATA I, the disk is still running in ultra-DMA 5 (=ATA 100), correct?
I have tried various BIOS setting according to the manual:
Native Mode:
ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
PATA Channel Selection: Both
P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th (does not change anything)
I have also tried:
Native mode
SATA Only
P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: SATA First.
S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd
Results are still the same.
So few questions:
1/ Am I missing something?
2/ Do I need to set jumpers on the MB or on the disk?
3/ Do I need to install specific Intel SATA driver (either during Windows install or after)?
4/ Is the BIOS configuration correct?
Thank you in advance for your help.
Cheers,
Rv
PS: I am running Windows XP SP2.Performance of S-ATA l and Ultra-DMA 100 P-ATA are just about the same so I wouldn't waste any time worrying about it. I compared 2 HDD's I have a few years ago, Maxtor 60 GB Ultra DMA 100 P-ATA and Maxtor 80 GB S-ATA l and performance was exactly the same for both of them.

[875P Neo Series] Sata Drives performance?!
Hi... Ive installed a Western DIgital Raptor Sata 10.000rpm 74G drive for audio files only, and a Maxtor Sata 160Gb for system (80G partition) and other 80gb partition for backup purposes...
Ive set the bios for native mode i think (this was some months ago) and now how can i know if my Sata drives are running ok, and not limited to 100mbs like the old IDE...
I ask this because, working in audio editor programs, when im running 32 audio tracks at the same time, the HD usage meter goes to 15%-20% every 2 seconds... it doesnt affect the sound, but it should be easier for the 10.000rpm HD...
Can i run some tests to see the performance of the HD?
Is there any other configurations to make besides Bios setup?
Thanks!thanks!
With the HD Tach i got these values
Western Digital raptor 74Gb 10.000rpm
Random acess: 8ms
CPU Utilization : 5%
average read : 58.4MB/s
In the graphs i see the scsi Ultra 320 bar, a sata 150 bar, a Ata ultraDMA 6 bar, and a bar with 119.2MB/s bar in red...
I didnt like the average read value... is it normal?
