850 PRO - 168 or 184 pin RIMM

I am wanting to upgrade my memory and am having trouble finding a source that lists the correct memory modules.
The motherboard is a Micro-Star 850 Pro (MS-6339). The manual states it provides four 168-pin RIMM sockets with maximum memory size of 2G.
Here is where I might be having the problem. I have spent the last two hours along with numerous other hours web searching and on the phone with memory suppliers: I just downloaded the PDF file of the 850 PRO Manual and it states this mainboard uses 184 pin RIMM sockets and not the 164 pin AS MY MANUAL STATES.
Can you please tell me which is correct and which memory would be recommended for this motherboard?
I want to install 512 or 1G of memory but have encountered problems finding 168 pin modules.
I read a review of this mainboard which stated it was tested with Corsair memory but I cannot find any link that lists these memory modules.
Can you please help?

Hello.. I was really hoping somebody could help me out with this, as I'm pretty much starting to lose hope..

I've tried contacting Samsung directly regarding this issue, but since they don't exactly get along with Apple, and even more-so, dislike anything that has to do with "RAID" configurations, I was left with practically no help on that end..
I've tried contacting Apple, who said that I'm pretty much on my own, in terms of support, since [i]they[/i] don't exactly get along with Samsung either.. and don't provide much of any support whatsoever, when it comes to third-party, hardware components that are not upgraded directly through Apple themselves.. (aka no support for user-end personal upgrades)
Both of these drives are [b]*Brand New*[/b] directly out-of-the-box, shipped from Amazon, as "new, un-opened" items..

I do large amounts of audio processing, producing, along with many other taxing system processes, so I'd really like to get this RAID-0 configuration working as it should be..
Please do not waste your time by bashing RAID-0 or writing an unhelpful, opinionated comment that does not move this process forward.. I understand the risks of RAID-0, I run [b]daily backups[/b], as well as having an Apple Time Capsule running in full-force, all day long.. My data is well backed-up, and I understand the risks.

How do I format new Samsung 850 Pro SSD in my 2012 Mac Mini

So my 12 year old is frustrated by the slower speed of his mac mini, and with some of his birthday money and my expertise (which I hope to borrow from you and pass off as my own), I've purchased a Samsung 850 Pro SSD (256 GB) and am going to install it for him. We've already increased the memory.   I've also purchased the OWC data doubler and am planning to install the Samsung with the original Mac hard drive.
Having watched the install videos several times I feel fairly competent to do that, but my question is what to do then to access and make the most use of the SSD so everything (1) works and (2) runs as fast as possible?    For example, first, do I need to copy the OS to the SSD and delete from the Mac hard drive, and then somehow set up the SSD as the main drive?   And do I do this before I install the SSD or can I do it after?   Finally, what do I need to do to ensure that the computer uses the two drives optimally thereafter for maximum speed/performance. You can see my level of expertise from my questions.
Other than the memory and the SSD install, we're not planning any other modifications, and his use of the mini is pretty vanilla (games, videos, etc.).    Any step-by-step help for a relative novice in this area (me) would be much appreciated.
My Mac's specs:
Mac mini (late 2012)
Processor: 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
Memory 16 GB
OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

1. Partition and format the SSD.
2. Install OS X on the SSD.
Install OS X Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.
This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.
How to use an SSD with your HDD
If you are going to use an SSD as a boot drive together with your existing HDD as the "data" drive, here's what you can do.
After installing the SSD you will need to partition and format the SSD using Disk Utility. Then, install OS X on the SSD. After OS X has been installed boot from the SSD. Use Startup Disk preferences to set the SSD as the startup volume.
Open Users & Groups preferences. Click on the lock icon and authenticate. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on your user account listing in the sidebar and select Advanced Options from the context menu. You will see a field labeled "Home dir:" At the right end you will see a Change button. Click on it. In the file dialog locate the Home folder now located on the HDD (HDD/Users/account_name/.) Select the folder, click on Open button. Restart the computer as directed. When the computer boots up it will now be using the Home folder located on the HDD.
Another more technical method involving the Terminal and aliases is discussed in depth here: Using OS X with an SSD plus HDD setup - Matt Gemmell. This is my preferred approach because I can select which of the Home's folders I want on the HDD and which I don't want. For example, I like to keep the Documents and Library folders on the SSD because I access their content frequently.
Be sure you retain the fully bootable system on your HDD in case you ever need it.

I did have a small formatting problem on my last one but I called them and solved the problem before the guy got on the phone. He immediately offered a return sticker (RMA) but I didn't need it and the MBP is running fine.

I am thinking of placing a Samsung 850 Pro 1TB SSD in a MacPro 2010.
On it i will install 10.10.
It will replace my current mechanical system HD
A few questions:
- Is this possible at all and do i have to have special additional equipment to place it ?
- Is it true that it will run 3xsata and not 6x sata ?
- Can you recommend this ? in term of speed and TRIM and/or other issues ?
- Would PCIe based SSD be possible also in a MacPro ?

Samsung 850 Pro into a MBP (early '11 15") issue

OK, so bear with me as I'm new to this and I hope I get all the information and terms right!
I have just completed a major upgrade on my MBP and am now having issues installing the operating system on my new Samsung 850 Pro SSD.
My system is as follows;
MacBook Pro 15" early 2011 model 8.2
2.2GHz i7 quad core
4GB RAM which I have upgraded to16GB with no issues (I hope?)
500GB HDD has been moved to the optical bay via OWC Data Doubler
Samsung 850 Pro 256GB SSD installed into main bay
OS X 10.8.5, also a recent upgrade, was running 10.7.5 for years
I can boot the system from the HDD with no issues. I have formatted the SSD to Journal and both disk utility and finder both can see the drive. Now to instal the OS on the SSD.
Plan A; Clone the HDD to the SSD via Disk Utility. I got an error telling me to do this via the recovery disk (obviously) which I did, this resulted in an error stating that the disk didn't have enough space. Not sure how much it needs but the HDD states it is only using 56GB to go into 256GB.
Plan B; Tried to do an install onto the SSD via recovery. This resulted in an error stating that this was not available and to try again later. I have tried several times, at different times of the day, for 2 days now, both using Wi-Fi and Ethernet connections. No luck
Plan C; Tried restoring SSD from a disk image of HDD from an external drive. Same error as plan A.
Plan D; Erased HDD to test if i was doing either plan B or plan C incorrectly. When I attempted to do the install on the HDD via recovery I got the exact same message (frustrating as I have done this several times over the years). Then attempted to restore the HDD from the disk image on the external drive which was successful!
Therefore, after 2 days of back and forth I am back to the beginning, awesome!!!
So I basically need to know how to get OSX 10.8.x on to the SSD so I can use this as my start up disk. I am a Pro Tools user and therefore can only run 10.8.x (the x because it doesn't matter which version). One of my options is to go to my (not so) local Apple store and see if they can run one of their disk images onto the SSD, (this is how I upgraded to 10.8.5) but I can't get there for another week and was hoping to get the system up and running before then as I have some testing to be done.
So here's the big question, what am I doing wrong?
I really appreciate everyone's help on the matter.

Try going to the App Store Purchases tab on the HDD and download 10.8 to the HDD. When the installer starts, point it at the SSD. Before you install, make a copy of the installer so you won't have to download it again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

Will the 840 EVO limit the potential of the 850 Pro in this setup?

Consider the following setup for use with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 as well as After Effects CC 2014 (I would mostly be rendering/exporting to .mp4 or h.264 using AVCHD source media):
Motherboard: MSI X99S Gaming 7
OS: Windows 8.1 Pro
CPU: Intel 5960x (8 cores, 3.0 ghz, 20 mb cache)
GPUs: 2 SLI GTX 970s
RAM: 32 GB
SSDs:
250 Samsung 840 EVO for OS, Pagefile, and Programs
1TB Samsung 850 Pro for Media Cache, Exports, Original/Source Media Files, Previews, and Projects.
Considering the aforementioned setup, would the 840 EVO, in any way shape or form, limit the potential of the 850 pro during any type of rendering/exporting/reading? I doubt it because most of the work is being done on the 1TB 850 Pro, but I don't really know for sure. Considering that the application itself has to be read and is operating on the 840 Pro, I genuinely don't know if it will potentially bottleneck the 850 Pro during these crucial processes. Can anybody point me straight here? On top of that, is there any other way that you might recommend allocating the different file types in the above setup?

That's not much of a problem to me in comparison to the real work. However, to be more specific, take my logic here and explain where I'm either wrong or right.
The 850 Pro is fast and effective at locating, reading, and writing data.
However, the 840 EVO is the SSD running Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 (where the program itself is installed).
Here we go; is the following correct or just a wrong assumption:
Since the 840 EVO runs Adobe Premiere, it can only be sending the data to the processor/gpu/etc as fast as the 840 EVO can do; thus, the fact that the 850 Pro can run faster will have little to NO benefit because the instructions that the application/program itself (Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014) is sending to the parts that do all of the rendering/exporting/work is restricted by the speed of the 840 EVO. Am I correct here?
Basically, to avoid as much confusion as possible:
Due to the fact that the program that sends all of the instructions (as in, telling the CPU to render this and export that, etc) to the CPU/GPU/etc is SLOWER than the 850 Pro, from which all of the data (media, previews, etc) is accessed, then the speed benefits of the 850 pro over the 840 EVO will NOT be utilized and therefore wasted.
This is just my assumption. Where am I wrong here, or is this correct? To use the true benefits of the 850 Pro, should the SSD that the applications are installed on also be an 850 Pro?

I want to purchase a 250 gb samsung ssd drive for my w530. My specs:

I7 3520M @ 2.90 GHz (2 Cores 4 Threads)

I am a mechanical engineer at work, and use this computer for learning new things on my free time. I will be using it to study solidworks simulation, catia, and maybe inventor or creo. I wil use it to understand principles of features and technologies, not for heavy duty freaquent calculations, or constant work with large assemblies. This computer would be too slow for these tasks anyhow.
I would appreciate your advice between these two discs: Samsung 850 Pro and 840 Evo.
Pro has a few GB more space, which actually makes no difference. The considered field is the other performance parameters: on certain tasks 850 Pro is a little, and in other tasks - much faster, according to benchmarks, e.g.:

Basically it is a new generation ssd drive, having much faster write speed.
But my mentioned computer is for personal use, is not too fast, and is already 2 years old. Based on my setup and tasks, do you think Pro series will have a performance advantage on my system? Yes, all of those tasks are highly CPU/GPU intensive, not disk intensive. Where you would see a difference is large scale file transfers and/or when the drive is almost full. The EVO would slow down to below the speeds of a standard hdd when it is almost full due to the nature of its memory (which is why it is cheaper in the first place), while the pro would not as much (it still would - all SSDs do - but not as bad as the EVO).
However, the EVO is kind of designed to account for this, which is why it is only 250 GB. The extra 6 GB is still in the disk, but it is set aside so that you can't fill it up. The rest of the EVOs follow this, too - 512 reduced to 500, 1024 reduced to 1000 - to protect the user from completely destroying its R/W speeds.
Note that this is still not enough to prevent degradation, and that you should try to keep at least 23-25 GB free on a 256 GB drive for maximum performance. The best method is to just leave the last 25 GB unpartitioned.

MS-6545 (MSI 850 Pro 5) - PVR-150MCE - Windows Media Center - Help!

Hi, I have a MSI 850 Pro 5 motherboard, which is actually my old system and I wanted to make a Windows Media Center PC from it. So I bought a Hauppauge PVR-150MCE TV-card and put it in. Now the motherboard does not boot with this card into it. It doesn't even show anything on the screen: the monitor stays off...
It only beeps - one × long two × short. This means that I have a bad video adapter as I have an Award BIOS. Nonsence of course, it worked fine without the card into the motherboard.
I have a ATI Radeon 9600 video adapter. I wonder what's wrong? Does the motherboard see the TV card as a faulty VGA card while disregarding the real AGP card?
I use the latest BIOS. (1.07) Is there anything I should adjust in the BIOS settings to make my computer work with this TV-card?

Max IDE 300GB and MSI 850 pro 5

I recently bought a Maxtor IDE 300GB HDD for my MSI 850 pro 5 but the motherboard just recognise a 131GB HDD.
Where is the problem: the HDD (I can still change it) or the motherboard (too old for supporting that HDD)?
OS is MXP SP2.
CPU is Intel P4 2,8 GHz

You may not need to have the IAA installed, the EnableLargeLBA patch would just do for SP2. Anyway now you've solved your problem, congratulations!

Solid State drive Samsung 850 Pro

I want to add a Samsung SSD 850 Pro to a HP Pavilion Elite e9280t, intel i7-920 (2.66ghz 1mb L2 + 8mb shared L3 cache), 2tb 7200 rpm SATA 3gb/s - two 1tb hard drives. Will a SSD work with my setup? Thanks Gary

Hi,
The HP e9280t only has SATA II ports so any SATA III SSD will not reach it's full performance potential. A more cost effective alternative is to look at the Samsung 840 EVO which is highly rated in many of the PC industry magazines. I know the Samsung 840 EVO will work in your PC. Look at a 250GB or larger model.

Emoticon for the 850 Pro

Help!! I recently lost my 800W one of the things that I loved about texting was being able to use emoticon's to express my point, because sometimes I communicate with friends that we speak different languages and a emoticon is worth a thousand words.
Here's the problem I replaced the 800W with the 850 pro and my new phone doesn't have the emoticons on it....how do I add these to my tex messages.

It's strange, the downloadable User Guide for the Sprint Treo Pro refers to inserting emoticons in multimedia messages, but not in regular text messages. To see whether they are available in text messages, try Menu > Insert. Does it work?
If not, you might just have to go back to using punctuation, like in the bad old days when text was just text.

Mac Pro 800 port (9-pin to 4-pin) what is the point?

I finally found a store that sells the 9-pin to 4-pin cable for firewire 800. But on the packaging it says "up to 400Mbps Transfer Speed."
Does that mean that hooking up my Mac Pro's 9-pin connection to my camera's 4-pin is only going to give me the same as the 6-pin to 4-pin connection?
If so, what is the point of Firewire 800 and the 9-pin connection?

What difference does that make? It's gonna transfer data at video speeds. Even if there was a FW8000 port, it would transfer data at the speed of the material played back from tape real time. That means that data is coming off the tape at about 25mbs... no matter what speed the port is.

Would anyone recommend using the One-Stop Install Navigator software with my MacBook Pro? I have the disc, but I was going to throw it away... Don't feel I need it, but I want to hear the community's opinion. Thanks.

Try going to the App Store Purchases tab on the HDD and download 10.8 to the HDD. When the installer starts, point it at the SSD. Before you install, make a copy of the installer so you won't have to download it again. You can make a bootable USB stick to install using this free program.

HP Officejet Pro X576dw MFP Default PIN/Secure Embedded Web Server Issues

Hello I have a few issues with this printer: 1. I am unable to get to the secure embedded web server ie. https://192.xxx.xxx.xxx, although the normal unsercure version works fine. The problem with this is I cant edit or reset any of the fucntions such as scan to email and scan to network for my users. This function used to work for a while till I had to reset the printer for some problem. 2. Further there is a tab called sign in into which I am not able to sign in as there is no mention of the PIN anywhere in the manual or in any literature. Please help. Thank you

Okay so I managed to reset to factory defaults and the secure pages were accessible. However this still doesnt solve the mystery of the Default PIN. HP Please help. Thanks
