8510w: HD running in SATA1 instead of SATA2 mode

I recently found out my notebook (Compaq 8510w) hard drive is operating in SATA-1 mode when both it (Seagate ST9200420AS) and the chipset it is connected to (ICH8M) support SATA-2.
In my search for a solution I have come across discussion of AHCI, but as far as I can tell this is enabled. In the BIOS “SATA Native Mode” is enabled, which I think is necessary to enable it. Furthermore, I installed Intel matrix storage console and the HD shows up under “Intel ICH8M SATA AHCI Controller” on port 0. In this program the ‘current serial ATA transfer mode’ is reported as ‘generation 1’ . I get similar readouts in other programs like HDDScan: “SATA Gen2 3.0 Gb/s: Not Supported”.
I checked the disk, the SATA-1 mode jumpers are not present.
Anyone have any ideas?
This is not a major issue at the moment with the current drive, but I was looking at getting an SSD for which I am sure (at least) SATA2 will be a necessity.
Thanks.

They make SSD drives that can do SATA2 and even SATA3 but your hardware has to be able to support it and fit the case as well. I think we need to start looking at your notebooks stats more closely. I haven't read up on your notebook yet. Maybe one of the experts will have an opinion.  I will start to read about your notebook and report if I have anything to contribute.

    imported old computer via time machine into new 2012 macbook pro, but its still running ilife 09 instead of 11?

    I am assuming you had iLife 09 on the old computer - when you moved everything over, that came along with it.
    I also have older versions of iLife (on install disks) and just recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro. I noticed that iMovie 11, iPhoto and Garageband (I think) are listed in my Mac App Store Purchases with a notation to "accept". So you might want to check MAS to see if the apps are sitting there.
    Now, I have chosen not to accept them for now for two reasons: I have iLife 11 on a disk and prefer that rather than having it tied to MAS/Apple ID and as long as I have my disk version installed, I also still have iDVD which I use a lot. I'm not sure if "accepting" those three from MAS would wipe out my iLife 11 installs including iDVD (which would be unacceptable for me). So, since I already have the latest version, I've opted to ignore the "accept" and, in fact, will leave it like that - if I ever sell this machine, the buyer can then accept them if they want with their own Apple ID. So before accepting the apps (if they are listed in MAS), you might want to check to make sure that your iLife install isn't wiped out - that is, if you have iDVD and want to keep it.

    If you mean can you design ADF applications with Eclipse then yes, you can do that with Oracle Enterprise Pack for Eclipse. It isn't as full-featured as the JDeveloper experience, though.

  • Can the Late 2012 Mac Mini Server run on Lion, instead of Mountain Lion?

    Since I plan to use this (USB 2) device http://plugable.com/products/UGA-2K-A
    on a (yet to be ordered) Late 2012 Mac Mini Server, I am wondering:
    could that box run on Lion, instead of Mountain Lion ? (the usb 2 device has some M.L. issues still)
    I would not really need the server-part (only want the box because of the 2 disk drives), maybe that influences things.
    Would there be any possibility to order it from Apple with Lion instead of Mountain Lion pre-installed ?
    Could the latest hardware in the box not-function under Lion, thereby necessitating Mountain Lion ?
    Thanks to all for thinking with me!
    Best,
    Arie

    It's simple: you cannot use a version of OS X older than the version that the Mac shipped with.  At the very least, this is because the hardware may not be supported.

  • Subscriber PL/SQL procedure runs as SYS instead of user

    I am trying to figure out why the PL/SQL procedures ran via the AQ subscription are running as user SYS instead of the user that created the subscriber and registered the procedure. Following is the script I used to add the subscriber and register the procedure. All this happens under user SCOTT. The creation of the queues happened under SCOTT as well. The enqueing of the message happens via a procedure in SCOTT, initiated by SCOTT. Scott also has
    GRANT execute ON dbms_aq to SCOTT;
    GRANT execute on dbms_aqadm to SCOTT;
    --ADD SUBSCRIBERS AND REGISTER THE QUEUES
    begin
    dbms_aqadm.add_subscriber
    (queue_name => 'in_drv_queue',
    subscriber => sys.aq$_agent('XML_drv', null, null),
    rule => 'tab.user_data.queue_type = ''XML''' );
    dbms_aqadm.add_subscriber
    (queue_name => 'in_drv_queue',
    subscriber => sys.aq$_agent('nonXML_drv', null, null),
    rule => 'tab.user_data.queue_type = ''NON XML''' );
    end;
    begin
    dbms_aq.register
    (sys.aq$_reg_info_list
    (sys.aq$_reg_info('in_drv_queue:XML_drv',
    DBMS_AQ.NAMESPACE_AQ,
    'plsql://scott.dequeue_xml',
    HEXTORAW('FF')) ),
    1);
    dbms_aq.register
    (sys.aq$_reg_info_list
    (sys.aq$_reg_info('in_drv_queue:nonXML_drv',
    DBMS_AQ.NAMESPACE_AQ,
    'plsql://scott.dequeue_nonxml',
    HEXTORAW('FF')) ),
    1);
    commit;
    end;
    Can anyone provide any suggestions as to why the two dequeue_ procedures run as SYS instead of SCOTT? I'm not sure what I am missing from the various examples I have read.
    Thanks

  • Run CF10 Developer in Standard Edition mode

    Is there a way to run ColdFusion 10 Developer in Standard mode for testing?
    My main concern is the Oracle drivers and if the standard edition will meet our needs, but would like to test it before purchasing what could be the incorrect license.

    "Oracle Drivers" is not generally interpretted to mean "Drivers written by Oracle [the company]", it means "drivers written for Oracle [ie: the database]". A case in point... would you describe the drivers Oracle supply for MySQL to be "Oracle drivers" or "MySQL drivers"?
    So will you please stop pedantically splitting hairs. You cannot use the drivers Adobe have licensed from DataDirect to connect to an Oracle database in CF Standard. I have now had this verified by two people, both of whom are sitting in front of a CF Standard install, and have taken time to check this for you. You can describe the drivers however you like, but the fact remains you can't use 'em.
    You need to get hold of some drivers from somewhere else. I recommend getting some from Oracle, given - as you point out - they are the vendor of the DB in question. But there are other vendors who write Oracle drivers too. As you say: DataDirect do. You can use theirs. You have to pay for them though.

The most common error message is :
    Error
    Database logon failed.

    Depending on how I am authenticating. I have Google this issue and there are tons of posts about it but no solutions. Any help would be appreciated.

    hello,
    I had the same issue. This is what I was told to do.
    iWork has to be removed completely to be effective when re-installing, you must use an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove every Keynote file.
    Appcleaner   will do this and its free.
    The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
    1  Close Keynote then use Appcleaner
    2  Empty the Trash
    3  Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, then release shift when the Apple logo appears
              allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    4  restart the Mac
    5  Reinstall iWork
    6  Repair permissions:
              Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First  Aid:   click on your system disc in the drive column
              and select Repair  Disk Permissions
    7  open Keynote and test

    A common misconception of unknown origin. The intake and the exhaust for the cooling fan on the 13" MB and MBP are both located on the rear slot at the base of the hinge. In fact, you can actually see the divider that separates the intake flow from the output flow. If it were through the keyboard crevices, then an awful lot of overheats would result from people using impermeable keyboard covers, as well as Apple's warranty department would be flipping out over the Apple store carrying such covers. iSkin ProTouch FX Keyboard Cover for all MacBooks - Black Printed Keys on White - Apple Store (U.S.)

    Re: Is it safe to use MBP with screen lid closed? Leave charge on always?
    1. Closing the cover will cause more heat. This is not because of covering the keyboard very much (though it does help some heat be retained). It's mainly because of the shape of the hinge and the fact when closed it covers up the back vent a lot more. For the best cooling, it is best to have the screen open. Just run it as a dual monitor, but make the external the Primary monitor, and if you don't want to use the built in, just turn its backlight off and don't use it.
    2. The thing you plug into the wall is not a battery charger. The actual "charger" is built into the computer. It knows when to charge and when not to. If the little light on the power plug is amber, then its charging your battery. When its green, its just powering the laptop and NOT charging your battery at all.

    I'd leave the lid open, at least partially...yes it may be fine not doing that, but you are making heat dissipate worse, of course could even theoretically hurt the screen.
    As for the battery...well there's really only two choices, have it plugged in or not. As others mentioned, you can't overcharge the battery. It can be damaged a bit from heat, but of course the number one thing that's going to damage it is discharging it...so it's a no brainer-use it plugged in whenever possible, and try to charge it whenever possible when it's not plugged in.

    Nope. Apple would disagree with you on that one. Any "closure", which is, when compared to the amount of CFM, is insignificant. In fact, the opening size remains the same. it is only deflected at a slight angle when the lid is closed. Tilt your MBP and see. As well, shutting down the display lowers the heat being generated, even in the lower case. As I said, if it were a problem, Apple would not be selling stands designed to operate your unit in the closed position as the original poster of this thread proposes to do.

  • BRARCHIVE is run by SIDADM instead of ORASID, causing permission denied

    Hi all,
    I have gotten this error this week, while I don't remember performing any change in the configuration.
    While doing whole database backup from T-Code DB13, backup is error caused by permission error in the target (the target is disk in another directory).
    Checking the target directory with orad11, it have all the authorization needed (read, write, delete). So, chmod 775 is performed in the target dir.
    After successfully performed datafile backup, it is seen that the file was written by d11adm instead of orad11. Which is strange.
    Currently, Redo-Log backup from DB13 cannot be performed because BRARCHIVE have to delete the archive files after the backup. I think it is not a good practice to set all archive files to be owned by d11adm.
