8520 Upgraded to OS 6, now can't turn on GPS or Location

My 8520 Upgraded to OS 6, now can't turn on GPS or Location.  Poynt and other Aps were working and would find current location, but this stopped. The GPS and location options won't let me change them.

I know it sounds unbelievable but it is true.
if you have installed OS6 on your 8520, then it can only be a pirate OS.
RIM as never published OS6 for that model.
I strongly advise you to uninstall it. Who knows what is in your device right now ! a program to spy on you and track your conversation, a program that will log all your passwords, a program that will take pictures without you knowing, and so on.

When i go to Options\advanced options\location settings, GPS Data Source is set to "None" and i cannot change it, Location services are set to Location Off, and I cannot change that either.
yes that is to be expected, because the 8520 does not have a GPS antenna. The behavior you are stating is the same for all 8520 models in the world.

I upgraded to Lion and now can't print PDF files and Acrobat reader doesn't work anymore. What can I do to get it working?

If you upgraded and were using a version of Acrobat Reader that was legacy, that is PPC compatible, then you will have to upgrade to a version compatible with Lion as Lion no longer has Rosetta to interface with the legacy software.
I know that Acrobat, full version, 10 works with Lion...use it myself.

  • Upgraded to maverick and now can't open excel projects

I recently upgraded to maverick and now can't go back to open excel spreadsheets I need for my business. I've even changed the permissions and I can only preview, not modify. Any suggestions?

Was just having this issue with my wife's computer after upgrading to Mavericks. Maybe a long shot, but if your filenames have forward slashes in them (such as for dates), change them to backslashes. No idea why but it works. I seem to recall having the same problem with Excel some time in the past and this was the solution then too.

upgraded to lion but now can not run parallel desktop. The message show can not load parallel drivers.
    Anyone can solve it?

Do you have Parallels Desktop 6?  That is the version you need to have it run under Lion.

  • HT204406 turned off iMatch under Store in iTunes now can't turn back on?

turned off iMatch under Store in iTunes and now can't turn back on - any ideas

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Do a test. Hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start up into OS X Recovery, and see if you can connect to your network by pressing the Wi-Fi icon at the top right corner of the display. Can you select a network or it says "No hardware installed"?
If you can choose a network, reinstall Mac OS X. If it says "No hardware installed", probably the Wi-Fi card has stopped working, so take your MacBook to an Apple Store

  • Upgraded to Tiger and now can't open any illustrator files! Please help me!

I upgraded my OS to Tiger and then updated to 10.4.8 and now can't get any of my Illustrator EPS files to open. I have spent the whole day trying to figure this one out (Launch Services advice in other posts) without any luck. What is going on here?!!! I have so much serious work to get done this weekend!
    Please help me!
    Amy

It's hard for anyone to offer any advice when you don't tell us what specifically is happening or not happening. Is there an error message? If so, what does it say? What version of Illustrator are you using? Does Illustrator open at all? Does it open regular Illustrator files? Have you reinstalled Illustrator?

  • Upgraded to Yosemite and now can't print wirelessly

Upgraded my 1yr old Mac Pro to Yosemite and now can't print wirelessly to my Epson XP-405 through my wireless home hub! I've tried re-installing new printer drivers etc, throwing away preferences etc... these sometimes work for a single print then goes back to "Printer can't be found". My older iMac doesn't seem to have this problem (yet - fingers crossed!) and prints ok on exactly the same wireless network.
    Any suggestions gratefully received.

If you haven't done so already, try resetting the printing system.
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system  also Yosemite

If you have the printers IP address open Terminal (Applications/Utilities) and at the prompt type: ping {printerIP}. You will get a reply or failure.

  • Took phone update and now can't turn down volume all the way?

I took the latest phone system software update, and now when I turn down the volume (using the volume button on the side) the lowest it will go is vibrate instead of silent.  This is annoying, because I sometimes like to turn it all the way down in meetings or when I sleep at night, but it vibrates on incoming calls or corporate e-mail notifications.
Why did you guys do away with the fully-minimized volume choice?
The Motorola Droid (Droid 1, I suppose), under the original software load, allowed you to turn down volume (in some number of steps), down to Vibrate, and then finally all the way Off.  The only sound it would make would be if you set an alarm clock.
With the new load, turning it down only goes to vibrate, and not silent.
The "Silent Mode" available when pressing the power button should be more appropriately named "Vibrate Mode."  It appears that there is no longer a true "silent" mode under the Droid O/S.
I looked at a number of marketplace apps, but they all seem to be based on a timer setting, i.e.  set a time frame that you don't want any sounds.
Why did Verizon (or is it Google?) have to break something that didn't need fixing?

It's a known issue and has been discussed numerous times. If you need quick access, you can get beautiful silent from the market for free which will allow you have a widget on your homescreen for silent mode.

  • Upgraded to 7.6 now can't use search feature

I just got a second ipod, a nano, and it required me to upgrade my itunes software. Now I can't search the library. Letters I put in the search field make no sense when the tunes come up. Any ideas???

Well I tried the stand-alone Quicktime installer -- to no avail.
But I did find the culprit (two of them). (1) Itunes is totally incompatible with the RealTek Sound Manager, which came with the motherboard. Disabling the Sound Manager is only half the problem. Audio and video will still not work without some tinkering. (2) The other half is the ituneshelper / ipodservice pair of applications that run in the background.
These two processes run after itunes exits so restarting itunes alone will not clear them. This also explains why rebooting sometimes works.
    1. Close itunes
    2. Kill any sound managers (the ones that make 5.1 systems work)
    2. Use Windows Task Manager to locate ituneshelper.exe and iPodService.exe.
    3. Highlight these processes and click the End Process button
    4. Restart itunes
Viola! The playhead progresses and the sound & video play correctly. It worked for me: YMMV.
I am guessing that the reason that the itunes started to play and then stopped was because this pair of background processes tried to do something naughty and stopped being stable -- itunes coughs and no playback.
I also suspect that these are needed to connect the ipod. But they are both spawned when needed, so killing them to listen to music is ok. You can sync later. So much for automation.
Perhaps itunes developers should look at the stability of these processes and their interactions with itunes.exe.

  • Upgraded to Lion and now can't drag files around

I can't drag and drop files/folders nor even move anything on my desktop....
I have to say the "upgrade" to Lion has been the most frustrating ever.

They are usually frustrating if not done properly. I suggest a reinstall:
Reinstalling Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.

  • Upgraded to Win 7, now can't open .pdf files after installing Acrobat X

I upgraded OS to Win 7 from Win XP, reinstalled my Acrobat X software and now am unable to open any .pdf files created and saved prior to upgrading OS and reinstalling Acrobat X. I see LOTS of discussion here about this issue (There was an error opening this document. Access denied.) but could someone tell me in SUCCINCT terms what I need to do to restore my ability to open files I created previously. My version of Acrobat X is 10.0.0. Thank you for assistance.

    HI szwarycz,
I will be happy to help.
Please tell me whether you have Adobe Reader or it Acrobat Professional X.
Meantime you can also try to go to edit preferences under categories choose General under general there is button called Select Default PDF Handler.
Click on that button and choose Adobe Acrobat X.  Check the screen shot.
Also you can try right click on any PDF document and choose option "Open with" their you need to choose option "Choose default application"
then you need to search for Acrobat application. Also you can visit this Microsoft article: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows/change-default-programs#1TC=windows-7

  • Upgraded to iTunes 10 now can't see any of my music on (NAS) shared storage

Hi, I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give me. I have an external hard drive (Network attached storage) where I store all my music. As it's on the network it appears in iTunes in the "Shared" section which I can access and play from any of my PCs.
I upgraded my laptop from iTunes 9 to iTunes 10 and now I can still see the device in the shared section but it's empty according to iTunes. I haven't updated the iTunes version on my desktop yet and that can see the music on the shared drive fine. Why isn't iTunes 10 recognising the content of my shared library?

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me how I can get the Netgear Beta Firmware update onto my Netgear Stora to fix the problem caused by iTunes 10.
Oh.. and find the firmware update in the first place
I am not too techie. Help would be appreaciated..

I have only seen mention of a beta firmware 4.1.7T49 for the (older) ReadyNAS servers e.g. the ReadyNAS NV+ which includes the iTunes fix. As far as I am aware there is not yet a beta for the newer ReadyNAS servers, e.g. the Pro or NVX. With regards to the Stora range, these are not part of the ReadyNAS family at all and therefore their software may be developed and maintained by a totally different department in NetGear.
I would presume eventually this fix will percolate throughout NetGear but at the moment only the older ReadyNAS have access to it.
This forum might be a good place to keep up to date on the Stora firmware http://forum1.netgear.com/forumdisplay.php?f=106

now I can't open my photos, Any suggestions?
    Jody,
What happens when you try to open your iPhoto library? An error message? Does iPhoto not launch?
please post back with more information.
What version of iPhoto did you upgrade from? You may need to download and run iPhoto Library Upgrader to be able to upgrade to the latest version, if you upgraded from iPhoto 5 or earlier.
