8520 - XP/USB won't recognise device

Just got new 8520 to replace 8320. Windows will only recognise it as a Rim Composite Device and cannot find software.
I have an existing 8320 which connects and works perfectly OK on the same laptop.
This is what I have tried so far
1. Unstalled existing Desktop software and reinstalled both with downloaded version and cd provided version
2.  Installed USB/modem drivers from Blackberry downloads and tried a manual add
3. Ditto with Microsoft generic rim drivers
This has taken about 8 hours of changes so far all to no avail. The 8320 is fine tho'
Any help gratefully accepted

Hello,
Here are a few tips that may help if your PC is unable to detect your BlackBerry smartphone!
1.    Install the desktop manager software – when installing the Desktop Manage software that came with your device be sure to Not have the BlackBerry connected to the computer during this process.
2.    Always use the USB ports from the back of the computer; never use a USB hub or a docking station USB port.
3.    If you have another UBS cable you can try doing that to make sure it is not the cable causing the issue.
4.    If you are using a laptop computer disable the power management settings.
    a.    For Windows-XP and Vista do the following to disable power management on the USB ports
        i.     On the computer, right-click My Computer and select Properties.
ii.    Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
iii.    Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers.
iv.    Right-click the USB Root Hub and select Properties.
        v.     Click the Power Management tab, and clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
        vi.    Click OK.
vii.    Repeat steps i. through vi. for each USB Root Hub listed in BlackBerry Device Manager.
5.    If you have uninstalled and reinstalled the Desktop Manager Software trying using the following knowledge base article to do a “clean uninstall” of the software. http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB02206
6.    The existing USB driver installed is for an earlier model of the BlackBerry smartphone.
    a.    Manually upgrade the USB driver for the BlackBerry smartphone by completing the following steps:
        i.     Right-click My Computer and select Properties > Hardware > Device Manager.
ii.     Under Universal Serial Bus Controllers, verify that the BlackBerry smartphone is found.
iii.    If an exclamation mark is displayed, right-click the BlackBerry smartphone and select Update Driver.
iv.    If the Hardware Update Wizard prompts you to use Windows Update, select No not this time and click Next.
        v.     Choose Install from a list or specific location and click Next.
vi.    Choose Don't search. I will choose the driver to install and click Next.
vii.    Click Have Disk and then choose Browse.
        viii.   Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\USB Drivers.
ix.    Double-click on RimUsbNT.inf, click OK, and then click Next.
7.    If you have another PC try using that PC to see if you able to get the device connected
8.    If you do not have another PC then try creating a new user account on the PC and then install the Desktop Manager software on that new profile.
Thank you hope that helps.

  • Statellite M100 won't recognise any USB storage devices or SD card

I've been having problems with my Toshiba M100 Satellite series notebook not reading Sandisk SD card from my son's camera - it's a 2GB card and from what i've read online maybe that's the problem BUT the notebook is also not reading any of my USB 'stick' devices. When i insert the SD card or a USB 'stick' it asks me to instal driver software which is just stupid. I've tried connecting the camera via a usb cable too and it won't recognise the device and, again, asks for device driver software.
I've looked on the toshiba website and have installed all updates that i thought might be appropriate, i'm also in the process of running Windows update (do this at least every 2nd week anyway so it shouldn't be a problem). I'm running Vista Home Edition (32bit). The USB ports have definately worked in the past, I really don't want to resort to running recovery discs if i don't have too as i don't want to lose all the stuff i have stored.
The SD Card/USB issue seems to be a common one but i can't find a specific fix on this or any other tech site, any suggestions?
    Cheers

In your case I would do two things.
First: Check if a new BIOS is available. Look on the Toshiba website and make an update.
Second: Reinstall the laptop with the recovery disks. I know that you will lose all data, but you can save it on DVDs or external HDD.

  • EA6900 won't recognise USB storage

My new EA6900 is working well, other than it won't recognise additional storage devices plugged in to the USB ports.  The main storage device is a Seagate STAY2000202 2TB Expansion 3.5 inch Hard Drive.
I had this same drive plugged in to the USB port of my previous Linksys router, which was a E4200, and it worked perfectly fine with that one.  So I assumed I would have no problem with the new EA6900!
The drive is working perfectly fine.  If I plug it straight in to my PC, I can see all the files on it.  But plugged in to the EA6900, It will not appear on the Linksys dashboard.  Nor will any thumb drives, yet there is definitely power at the (USB) ports.  I've tried swapping between the two USB ports, but that doesn't seem to work.  The firmware on the drive is up to date (or rather, there is no newer firmware available).
    Any ideas?

Try resetting the router. If the router won't recognize any USB drive connected to either USB ports even after a firmware upgrade and a reset, I suggest you contact the store for the warranty information of the device and have it replaced.

  • ITunes won't recognise my iPod on USB 2.0, only 1.1

my computer won't recognise my iPod touch 1.1.4 when it is connected via my USB 2.0 PCI card, only when it is plugged in via the motherboards inbuilt USB 1.1 ports. I have plugged it into other computers (all pc's) and it works fine on their USB 2.0 ports.
    What could be causing this?
    cheers.

Try this if you have not already. This removes and reinstalls ALL Apple software and sometimes that is required.

  • Time Machine won't recognise my Dlink DNS323 RAID device for storage

Hi, can someone help me with this issue. For some reason Time Machine won't recognise my Dlink DNS 323 RAID NAS device. I have mapped the device in Finder, so I know my Macbook can see it and read it, but Time Machine can't. Does TM support NAS devices? Do I have to set up the Dlink in some special manner? Let me know! Thanks!

the only officially supported NAS for TM backups is Time Capsule. there are hacks to make other NASes work with TM but they are just that - hacks. use at your own risk.

  • ITunes and the Finder won't recognise iOS devices but iPhoto will and will recognise my iPod classic

    Good day good people,
I seem to be having a problem syncing my iOS devices to iTunes. The Finder and iTunes won't recognise any of my iOS devices (iPads - 1, 2or Mini and iPhone 4s). iPhoto will however. Finder and iTunes will recognise my iPod Classic.
    I've tried this:
         http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
and I tried doing a SCM reset and a PRAM reset (I couldn't get this one to work though) as recommended on another thread which I can't seem to find again.
Note people seem to have had a similar problem with older versions of OSX - I have the latest. They reommend reinstaliling iTunes but I can't do this with more recent versions it seems.
I am confident it is something corrupt with my MacPro as I also have a MacBook Air and it recognises all the iOS devices.
One last thing  - and I'm not sure this is related - but iTunes on my MacPro doesn't seem to be syncing purchases from the iTunes store with my other devices (notably my AppleTV 2).
I have been banging my head against this one for a while - any help would be greatly approeciated.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • USB won´t work with Canon software

Since the last couple of OS updates the USB ports on both my iBook G4 and G5 Dual(older model) won´t recognise Canon´s Digital Photo Professional`s Capture utility. Since this is the only software that can control the aperture, shutter speed, ISO etc. from the computer - it is really important to me.Can anyone please give me advice how to get rid of the updates?

I am also running Windows 98SE as one of my operating systems. I had a heck of a time getting USB 2 to work, but here's how you do it: Put the CD Driver and Utilities Disk in your CD/DVD drive. Go to USB\USB20\Win9x-ME\Intel. That's where the inf is that you need.
You will have 2 USB entries under your Device Manager in Windows 98SE. If you have a yellow ! on your enhanced controller, point it to where I said and it will update the drivers in your system. This worked for me.
I'm attaching an Orangeware driver link that you can download and install first. Then update the driver after reboot and point it to the location above
    http://www.orangemicro.com/bin/USB2/Setup.exe
After your update you will see an Intel Ehhanced USB 2.0 Controller and a USB 2.0 Root Hub under the top entry USB set under Device Manager.
