865 P neo 800 FSB issues?

I'm working on a system with an 865 P neo mobo, 2.4 P4 with 800 FSB.  The default is 166 on the FSB in the bios, and the chip only shows up as 1.99 ghz.  When I change the fsb to 200, it posts, and starts to load the win xp splash screen, then reboots.  Anyone else having similar issues? I've already tried different boards and cpus, so it's not a hardware issue.  Bios version is 1.1 042503.
Any thoughts ir similar problems, please post.

My guess is that MSI printed '800 series' on the box to show it's compatible with 800 FSB CPU's (which seem to work, only slower as intended).

  • 800 FSB, HT, and 865p Neo... Noob question

Just installed my new motherboard, 865p Neo, with a Northwood 2.4GHz P4 800 FSB processor, and it's running at 1.99 GHz at 664 MHz FSB. Is this a jumper problem or a software issue? Please help. :(

  • MSI 865 PE neo 2 S compatibilty

    Dear Guys,
Please kindly help me to solve my problem with my old system.
I have an old system that I want to use as HTPC. The specs are:
     -MSI 865 PE NEO 2 S
     -1 Gb of RAM
-P4 2,66 Ghz Northwood with Hyper threading function enable.
     -320 GB of HDD.
     -HD 3650 AGP
     -FSP Bluestorm II 500 watt
     -Main board Bios v 2.5
The problem is, when I want to change the processor with P4 3,2 Ghz SL6WG (Northwood) 512kb /  FSB 800. My system wont boot at all.
    Based from:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=543
The P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood CPU listed as a compatible CPU for my mainboard.
I have tried clear the CMOS by shorting the 2 pins, remove the CMOS battery in the mainboard and still no results so far.
When I see the LED bracket it show 4 red light.
I have tested my system with P4 3.0 E Ghz (Prescott) SL7E4 and show no problems. My system run fine.
Am I got a bad CPU (bad P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood) or maybe this CPU not compatible with my mainboard?
Thanks a lot for the response.

You mean when you press the power button, lights come on and fans start spinning, but there are no beeps and there is no display?
The CPU is compatible with that board, so if your system doesn't start with it in, then it must be a bad CPU.
Its definitely a SL6WG? (as shown on the CPU surface)
Yes the processor definitely SL6WG, I saw the code myself in the surface of the processor.
When I start my system with SL6WG installed, there are no beeps sound at all. However all the fan and my pc peripherals starting. My monitor only show the blank screen. with the led bracket in the back show 4 red light.
When I change back my processor to 2,66 Ghz Northwood or 3.0 E prescott my systems runs fine.
    thx

  • MSI 865 PE NEO 2 (MS-6728 v.1) raid problems

Hello guys, hope somebody can help before i throw everything out of the window.
Hi had this mobo since 2003.
    p4 2.66  800 fsb
    memory pc 2700  333mhz
    Ati radeon 256 mb
2 ide hds 120gb each on onboard promise as raid optimized for performance (raid0)
Everything start about a month ago.
suddenly Pc dont boot from array.( i think was a power cut)
after playing a bit around I went to fast build (ctrl -f ) delete the array and with option 1 auto detect the array again.
Pc booted and everything was fine, then messages like " windows no disk error" start to pop up everytime i boot up again.
I taught about malaware of some kind and even try to reassign a letter for hds that always appeared as "C".
then very frustrated I had the "brilliant" idea of using window restore point to restore windows some time before  I had this problem.
Then no more boot guys the man lost control of the machine.
i tried to use recovery consolle, when i go "chkdsk" says: disk appear to have 1 or more unrecoverable errrors.
MAP do  not shows the disks (maybe `cause raid?).
the funny thing is that on fastbuild (ctrl-f) a bootable array is present and "Functional",but when i do option 1 (array autoset up) says "no available disks".
I have tried to reinstall Promise pdc20378 driver(cannot find original floppy anymore so i have download driver) to reinstall windows XP(SP2),pressed F6 and then s messages says unexpected error on line bla bla bla.
It does not allow me to install a fresh copy of xp.
Do you think is the promise raid controller fault?
do I need to change/reinstall the driver(maybe i have downloaded the wrong 1).
There is not very important stuff on hds, just years of downloaded movies and songs, which i would like to keep if poss.
Any suggestions before I throw this superb mobo of the 2003 and get the new p35 chipset?
Is the machine finally beat the man?
I thank you all in advance
    A sleepless man

    Thanks HenryW,
I have create the dikette and done the test.
It did not recognize the disks on the onboard promise ata raid.....so i plug them on the normal ide
I ve done quick scan first and 1 of the disk came up with error 0x73 (defective device ..excessive shock),
then i ve performed advanced scan on the same disk and gave me a different error code 0x72 defective device ..S.M.A.R.T failure.
I guess 1 of the disk has gone, unless i can repair it somehow with this utilities,or disks have to be read 2gether on the raid controller..
Well i ll try to see on hitachi website, any more suggestions please let me know.
I thank you for the great help you are giving

I get a few packets sent but I don't recieve any!

problem seems to be with your modem/router settings. Can you try to ping some famous websites like www.google.com, www.yahoo.com see if your DNS can return the IP? otherwise just straight ping the ip.
You got to deep dive into your router or modem settings, don't know which one is at fault.
This doesn't seem like having anything to do with the board.

  • MSI P43 Neo series FSB wall?

After messing about quite a bit with this board with various CPU's and Memory, reading comments by other users and OC'ers on other boards, it seems I've come to the bottom of the problem with my Memory / CPU issue's on my board.
First once again: the used hardware
    Board:MSI 7519 V1.0 P43 Neo-F mainboard
    CPU: Intel E6550 / E6600
Cooler: Scythe Mine rev. B, stock fan (100mm @ 1500rpm)
    Memory: 2GB kit G.E.I.L. DDR2 800 cl5 "black dragon"
                4GB Corsair XMS2 pc8500 "dominator"
                2 x 1GB OCZ pc9200 900mhz "Special OPS" (not a kit)
                2x 512mb Hynix 667mhz cl4 OEM memory (not a kit)
Graphics card: MSI X1550, MSI 9600GT 512 OC
PSU: LC power 650W ATX 2.02 PSU / Raptox 550W ATX 2.01 PSU
OS: Windows Vista SP1 x64 UK
I've tried BIOS 1.3 and 1.6 (final versions only)
Memory shows to be in "asymetric dual channel mode" in every piece of software you trow at it. However, preformance is good.
Both Jumpers have been removed from the board, setting it to "333-400 mhz mode".
CE1, Spread spectrum, Speedstep and "OC boost modes" are disabled.
Memory is on auto (which results in 5-5-5-15) at 2.1V
MCP voltage is on 1.100 (since I don't want it to go over for no reason)
CPU core is at 1.375V in bios, resulting in 1.356~1.378V in CPUZ and Coretemp. (varies with every boot)
I've tried with both my E6550 and a borrowed E6600, but for some reason, the board will not pass it's POST at any FSB higher than 415mhz.
    (resulting in 830mhz DDR2, and a 2904mhz for the E6550 and 3733mhz for the E6600 (at 1.388V))
This all makes me wish I got the older E6600 instead, eventhough it gets quite hot. Which brings me to the topic of temps: E6550 OC after 1 hour Orthos = 54degrees. (and 33 / 39 idle) For some reason, Windows prefers core2, which Idle's a lot higher (39) than core1.(33)
The E6600 got to the awefully high temperature of 68 degrees after 2 hours Orthos.
But now the issue: As soon as I pop the FSB to 416, 417 or 420, the system will no longer boot, and I will get the "OC failed" message after shutting the power down.
I've read quite a few reviews and many people seem to encouter these problems. Boards with same chipsets, seem to go to quite a bit higher. (435 being the worst one in the same price range: the Gigabyte DS3 P43 version.)
Am I overlooking something? Would more voltage sort these problems? (I already went a bit overboard just to test)
    Are there settings I'm missing?
Any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

Hi Unicron, read ur post and thought id give you some feedback.Im the guy who originally posted the 417fsb wall thread.I beleve these boards with the p43 chipset Do indeed have something going on which limits  the higher fsb speeds seen by p45 series. Id be interested to hear if Any one with a p43 version msi board has achieved speeds beyond 415-417. I know the p45 chipsets have gotten thru the 500fsb barrier.I had tried Every bios available for my p43 neo3-f board and EVERY possible bios setting and yet never got beyond that 417 limitation. Voltages raised in cell menu have No effect on getting thru it. board is strong and stable Up to that point, then 1 mhz beyond there is no post or freezing as it enters desktop.Ultimately after spending 3 weeks intensive trying everything and scouring every forum and msi tech for advice, to no avail, i just gave up on it and returned my board to manufacturer. I purchased another brand of board and went right thru that fsb wall with same hardware and cpu.i was able to achieve 535fsb no problem. I had tried to post "which" board i went with before on this forum but was  censored heavily for trying to do so. I guess such sharing is Not allowed. Moderators take that as promoting "other" manufacturers boards and frown on it.My intent was only to share what i learned and help others. So i have to keep that info to myself sadly.. anyway thats my 2 cents, my name is Paul. good luck !
Yes, I think we discovered the same thing:
The MSI P43 Neo boards don't go over 414, 415 or 417mhz FSB.
Nor do various other brands. I must say I haven't found/read about a P43 board that does. But I guess if you claim there 's such a board, it must exist.
I'm done looking. Next time I'll buy a higher end board. Low end CPU + Low end board OC isn't a very good idea. I should've gone with a X48 MSI DDR2 board + E9650.

  • P43 neo-f fsb wall at 417 with e8200

with the p43 neo which i believe there identical too p43 neo 3 apart from cooling on motherboard and bios versions(layout same ,features same, chipset same) ,anyway  I will hit a 417/418 fsb and will become totally unstable and freeze on me(while using dual core centre) or if using bios overclocking will reboot until it goes back to defaults, have also tried everything voltage wise, have dropped multipliers and it is definitely a motherboard fsb wall issue.
even tried putting a fan over northbridge to cool as seems to run very hot(is now just warm too touch so ok),but makes no difference to overclocking and is annoying hell outta me, as i bought an e8200 to specifically overclock and best i can get stable is 3300

    Asus xonar dx soundcard
    samsung f1 1gb
    seagate 500gb hard drive
    Things I have tested
    with only 2/4gb of ram
all conceivable variations of mch, vfsb, ich mem voltage etc (have not messed with clock drive and skew etc as i am not aware how they effect things)
dropping cpu multi to 7, then raising to fsb of 417 again results in restarting until defaults etc meaning board is hampering overclocking.
upping voltage to cpu-this results in absolutely no better overclocking as it is mobo stopping higher clocks.
Bug I noticed- sometimes on booting into windows after a few minutes with an overclock through bios the mch would show the mch as 2.57v in the dual core centre(i reset to defaults in dual core centre whenever it happens) dont know if this is a bug with bios or dual centre the mch in bios I have set it to is 1.35v, id imagine if it was actually at this voltage it would crash out and fry wouldnt it? but dosent seem to affect anything.
dual core centre often also shows a 1.9 voltage on my memory when it is set to 1.8 in bios, i again reset to defaults in dual core centre and appears to reduce voltage.

That does not mean much.  Different board, different chipset/memory controller, different BIOS usually mean different overclocking behaviour.  As soon as you go beyond 400 MHz FSB-Clock Speed you are overclocking your 8GB of DDR2-800 memory which is likely to be a cause of instability.  Have you raised the memory voltage at any point above 1.8V?

  • MOVED: MSI P31 Neo and FSB/DDR ratio

This topic has been moved to Overclockers & Modding Corner.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=116635.0

    Hello Aacko,
the P31 Neo is a budget board that is not really designed for overclocking (notice the red PCB).  The P31 chipset supports DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 memory modules.  With a FSB-200-MHZ-CPU installed, 1:1.66 and 1:2 are exactly the ratios you need to get your RAM to 667 MHz or 800 MHz.
    Quote
Can I do something about this or should I swap P31 Neo to some P35-chipset mobo that would allow more flexible FSB/DDR ratio settings?
If you really want to overclock, you should go for a P35 Platinum or P35 Neo2-FR/FIR board.

  • 875P NEO HIGHest FSB 250??

I have a new 2.4C 800Bus CPU, and well this 875P Neo Doesnt Like to post at anything higher then 250 Bus.. is this a bios issue?I am running the 1.32B Beta Bios, I know the chip will do 290 tested it in my friend ABIT... anyone know of some setting I need to change?

    All!
I know some basic things to OC my system but I've got a very simple question:
If I would set the FSB in the bios to 190 for ex., than the system tries to reach the memory at 380 isn't it?
    ( CPU = FSB x 4
    RAM = FSB x 2 ? )
Or does the memory access speed is independent of FSB?
(As far as I remember in the BIOS I can see some "AUTO", "333", "354", ... settings for memory speed. Can somebody give me some explanation of OC at P4 config?)
As you can seen in my signature I've 2 pcs of Kingston HyperX 512 PC3000 (ddr370) modules. The system is working with these. Would it work fine with Kingston HyperX PC3500 module also?  (At Kingston site the HyperX is not recommended for MSI 875p NEO FIS2R.)

  • K8N Neo BIOS FSB OC VERY limited

Well I have seen this on several message boards, the Viperlair review here:Viperlair review and observed it myself. The OC from the BIOS on my system will not boot 140> using any multiplier/MEM/HT/Vcore combination. My Basic system specs:
    Vapochill PE and Alpha PAL8150
    K8N Neo
    A64 3000
    Tried 2x512, 2x256, 1x512 and 1x256 PC4200
    Pelt Cooled 9800 Pro
Using clockgen I can get 10x245 at stock Vcore even on air cooling so I know the CPU should be able to do better with sub 0 cooling in a Vapo case. I can also lower the multiplier and get to 280>FSB using clockgen. It's going to be a real shame if there is no way around this BIOS limitation. A few other glitches I hope they fix:
    1) The temps are still reading way off. My P4C/4Ghz 1.65v idled at -2~0c and hit 15~17c load. The A64 3000 at idle reports 8c and goes no lower no matter what the Vapochill is cranked up to. Load temps are 15~17c. This has been reported on many of the Nforce 3 MOBO's. None of the MOBO manufacturers seems able/willing to issue a BIOS fix for this. For that matter none of them seem to be willing to admit there is a problem at all.
    2) Do not use the Forceware IDE SW. I am using the latest v4.24 and the basic XP Pro setup with 1 drive connected to the SATA was detected and worked fine. Immediately after installing the Forceware drivers the system would no longer boot with the SATA drive connected. I had to disconnect the SATA drive and roll back the drivers on all the PATA and SATA controllers. Everything worked normally after that.
    3) The NVIDIA Nforce PCI System Management will NOT share IRQ 11 with anything. This really bummed me out as the second channel on my Adaptec 39320-R Host RAID controller also wants to use IRQ 11. I had no option but to take out the 15K SCSI drive that I use for speedy virtual CD access in gaming and replace it with an IDE drive. I still have not gotten this issue worked out and had to disable the second channel. I hope a later BIOS fixes this issue. It has been some time since I have had a hard IRQ conflict like this, I thought XP wuz supposed to solve these sorts of issues. Oh well.
    4) Damn that southbridge gets hot, active cooling would have been nice. I already replaced the white thermal goo with AS, removed the MSI ID plate and installed a small fan to the HS. The temps still go 50c+ under load. I was going to add a larger HS but the ramsinks on my ATI 9800 Pro  inhibit installation. I may add a small water block later to get temps down.

So you say you can't boot above 240fsb setting using your bios buy you can use clockgen and get to 280? What version of clockgen are you using? I can't get above 230 no matter what I use. When I use clockgen in windows and go above 235 windows just locks up. Also getting alot of hard drive corruption. I've had to install windows 4 times now. Using a couple of raptors in a raid array. I wonder if it's a pci lock thing or the crappy nvidia ide and sata drivers. Did the fan on the heatsink help at all?

  • MSI P31 Neo and FSB/DDR ratio

I purchased P31 Neo -mb and E2160 processor.
I've red that this processor could easily hit 3.0 Ghz with 333 mhz fsb. The problem is that I can't find a setting from P31 Neo's bios that would allow to unlock FSB/DDR ratio. There is only Auto, 1:1.66 and 1:2 setting for FSB/DDR ratio. When I raise the FSB the DDR speed quickly raises over 800 Mhz and the system doesn't post. 2160 Mhz is the top that i've managed to overclock E2160 because my DDR2-chips can't handle the higher FSB speeds.
Can I do something about this or should I swap P31 Neo to some P35-chipset mobo that would allow more flexible FSB/DDR ratio settings?

  • PowerBook 800 Audio Issue

Hello. I have a PowerBook 800 DVI. I have owned this computer for several years and have recently noticed that when I press on the bottom case or slightly move the PB the audio usually goes out completely, input and output. However, it does not hinder performance at all. Sometimes, it will make a terrible high pitched sound as well. I have changed MIDI settings and reset pram, PMU, nvram, etc. I tried the HD in a PowerBook 500 and had no issue. I also tried using the speaker connection from the 500 with no avail. I'm assuming it's the logic board. Does anyone have input in this? Thanks.

    Hi m,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
It's obvious this is hardware related, and it's not the HD. Go to ifixit.com and look at the user guide to identify the sound board on your machine. Then open up the bottom panel on your PB and look to see if the panel itself is bent in the area where you press to make the sound. If so, unbend it and don't press on that spot any more. You may also wish to lay a thin piece of insulating material between the bottom cover and the logic board in that area.
If that doesn't do it, with the bottom cover still removed, I would boot the PB and, with a non-conducive instrument (plastic, wood, not metal) carefully and gently poke the area where you notice the issue. If you can ID where two hardware components are flexing to touch each other and causing the issue, you may want to try insulating that point if it is practical (mylar is a good material if you have it available).
If this seems too risky and/or too much work for this issue and you can simply live with the issue, then that may be a good plan for you. Good luck.

Are you aware of any issues with that kind of cables?
    Thanks
    Oliver

    Hi!
I am not sure if this is the right forum group, but a quick question:
Did you have any trouble operating / connecting your Pinnacle moviebox after installing Snow Leopard? I used it for digitising my vhs / hi8 recordings on my Leopard system, but after installing Snow Leopard on my MacBook, it has stopped working.

  • My Lumia 800 Experience - Issues/Questions/Suggest...

    Ok.
Firstly, hi all. A few of you helped me when i had an X6, hope i get the same response now.
I have just gone from a Nokia N900 to a Lumia 800. It's a sleek, stylish phone, comfortable to use but the difference in touch sensitivity between the N900 and L800 is massive. I'll get used to it.
Firstly, a problem. It took me 3 and a half hours to get the contacts off my N900 and onto the L800. Why? The bluetooh transfer app would not work with either my N900 or the bluetooth on my Win7 laptop. Would pair, wouldn't transfer. I didn't have a LiveID so had to create one, then try to sync to Outlook, export contacts to Live via CSV file, then i could see the contacts on my phone. Wow. fuss and a half.
So. Data Transfer. Why when i have a Win7 PC and a Win7.5 phone, can i not simply drag and drop files to the L800, viewing it in Win7 Explorer as storage? Come on, that's basic. the older N900 can, why not this?
I believe my L800 is more of a MediaPhone/FriendPhone that a SmartPhone - but on that note, i cannot set an MP3 file as a ringtone or alert, unless it's under 1mb in size....really? On the same subject, i have downloaded 4 text alerts from the Free Ringtones app by Ashterisk to replace the text alerts and email alerts. They can only be found in the Ringtones setting as Custom tones....they can't be found under the New Text/IM or New Email settings....and annoyingly, a ringtone i downloaded from the same app cannot be found at all, although will play in the media player...have i done something wrong?
Themes...can they be auto-installed so you don't have to create your own tiles and then replace the standard ones on the homescreen?
Internet Explorer. I save cookies because i would like to log in to a site automatically if i have a site opened from a tile, however, if i open up IE from the standard tile, it goes to the last visited webpage, and it doesn't seem like you can set a homepage or about:blank in there. am i missing something?
the phone seems excellent, and very well put together with some neat touches, but it doesn't feel as fluid, as user-friendly as the N900....considering the N900 was a "computer" and a true SmartPhone opposed to the L800 being a MediaPhone/FriendPhone, the L800 feels like it's missing a few tricks, and it's harder to customise, both with sounds and images, and commonly used webpages etc than the N900 which seems silly seeing as i think it's aimed at a younger user than the N900.
Am i just complaining for the sake of it because it's a new phone i don't quite understand yet, or are these things that other users are thinking, like "ahhh why the heck can't i just do *that*?!"
any and all feedback appreciated, latest software in use, forum browsed through for info, although i've not spotted these issues anywhere else, i'm only human and may well have missed them.

Fuly understand what you're saying, but to me, some of the stuff mentioned should have been there from the start, basic things like the mass storage connectivity would have made things so much easier, plus using full mp3 files as ringtones - phones have been doing this for years.
Another problem i forgot about is the ability close an application. unless i'm mistaken, if i've used IE and visited several pages, i have to press the back arrow repeatedly until the app exits....there's no "close" function.
Found an issue with downloaded music being played at max volume with the volume set at 1/30, i'll have a search for the solution to that.
