865 PE NEO 2 Northbridge Temps Seem Fixed With BIOS 1.4

Since I updated to BIOS 1.4 it seems that the ridiculously high Northbridge temp seems to be fixed. I'm getting a report of 28 Degrees C in Speedfan. Can anyone else confirm? 8)

But MSI's release notes don't seem to indicate they fixed the NB temperature:
AMI® BIOS  File Size  404KB
Version  1.4  Update date  2003-8-25
Update Description:
-Fixed Samsung 1GB DDR can't install Windows XP
-Removed Chinese language support
-Add PCI Slo1 to Slot4 assign IRQ option in the BIOS setup
-Fixed SATA CDROM dectect problem
-Fixed MegaRAID Ultra PCI RAID ADAPTER BIOS Ver 1.66 cannot be used
-Fixed AdvanSys PCI SCSI Bus Host Adapter BIOS v2.9Z cannot be used
Could it be something to do with your RMA'd board rather than a BIOS fix?

  • Northbridge temps and the new bios update

I know the Northbridge temperature issue has been posted before. But I’m posting in relations to the new bios update supposed to be released 08/24. Will these temp issues be resolved in this new bios update?
There could be many reasons why the Northbridge temps are so high, ranging from bad heatsink design to Northbridge fan blowing too fast. Mine runs 55C idle which is way too high…but when I go to touch the heatsink, it’s barely warm. A lot of people have been complaining about the “light show” on the Northbridge, but heck I like it. I think it’s pretty cool
One last thing I’d like to bring up, this new bios update, I don’t know whether or not 1.6 supports DDR500mhz Ram (because I don’t have it yet) but will it support it? Reason being is I plan on buying DDR500mhz Ram and do some more overclocking.
1:1 Cpu to Ram ratio here I COME!!! :D

ROFLMAO  (first sign of insanity when you laugh about a such sad matter)
Maesus, its nothing personal, but do you really believe there will be a v1.8 BIOS? To me it looks like MSI has abandoned the 875P. BIOS v1.7 is supposed to come when? ...August 28th? That's 2 months since the last one and as far as I have heard there has not much changed over v1.6. When is v1.8 supposed to come? Another 2 months later? Not to speak of v1.9... That makes about 5 months to get the board working the way it was supposed to do from the first day (if v1.7 solves something at all).
Sorry, but MSI is about to lose all trustworthiness with this so called support. And moderators in a company's forum who are not even employees of that company, and have to take guesses (see Prescott support) about the products, do not help to make the situation much better (again, nothing personal). If the support team would take a look by themselves on a regularly basis (1-2 times a week) perhaps then the problems would be solved much faster. If I would work like this and not care about the customers I would have lost my job long ago.
There are still many problems. The board is on the market for some months now and memory compatibility and timings are still an issue.
I've visited many forums the last week. And I do hear (read) almost the same everywhere: Poeple who bought the 875P board say its high quality and has good features, if it only would work as supposed. MSI miserably fails to give it a working BIOS. Results in polls about "MSI 875P board good or bad" tend to be weighed horribly to "bad". Most of the ppl will never again buy a MSI board because they feel left alone with their problems.
It is clear that ppl who are satisfied do not post that in forums. But when something is wrong, they do, because they want the problems solved. But what are support forums good for when no one is listening to the complaints?
In times who prices are almost the same for the products, ppl tend to buy that product, that not only has the best features but also good support. When it comes to that MSI is not first choice.

  • 865 P neo 800 FSB issues?

I'm working on a system with an 865 P neo mobo, 2.4 P4 with 800 FSB.  The default is 166 on the FSB in the bios, and the chip only shows up as 1.99 ghz.  When I change the fsb to 200, it posts, and starts to load the win xp splash screen, then reboots.  Anyone else having similar issues? I've already tried different boards and cpus, so it's not a hardware issue.  Bios version is 1.1 042503.
Any thoughts ir similar problems, please post.

My guess is that MSI printed '800 series' on the box to show it's compatible with 800 FSB CPU's (which seem to work, only slower as intended).

  • Satellite Pro L20 keyboard problems not fixed by BIOS update

    Hello,
When I type in MS Word or another application, some characters are not displayed. This problem is known.
I have followed the TOSHIBA's recommendation to update BIOS V1.30 for PSL25E. Unfortunatey, this doesn't help.
I would be gateful for any advise.
    Thank you,
    olbur

    Hi guys
In my opinion if the BIOS update procedure doesnt solve the keyboard issue so you should contact the Toshiba service for replacing this part.
But did you use the right BIOS version?
You should check you notebook serial number
    The issue was fixed with
    - Bios V1.20 or higher for PSL20*-*, PSL25*-* and PSL27*-*
    - Bios V1.70 or higher for PSL2X*-*, PSLY*-* and PSL2Z*-*
If it doesnt work the last way is the service point.

  • E8500 getting high temps in-game with MB P53 neo-f

    Hello,
i'm a MSI MB P53 neo-f owner with an Intel processor E8500 (not overclocked/cooler box) and i'm getting high temperatures when i'm playing games. Everest/rivatune/Bios/realtemp shows me 55-60º Celsius in Idle  and ~103 ºC in-game. It seems there is something wrong with this numbers or compatibility with E8500. There is another problem with Bios information about processor multiplier. The correct E8500's mutiplier is 9.5x and it shows 9x. Is there a problem? Do i need a Bios update? Could you give me last bios update? Cause live update shows that my bios is the lastest version (v. 1.90).
    Thanks!
P.S: I've already tried to disable EIST and Spread spectrum and then...nothing!

Which board do you have exactly?  (A P53 board does not exist).
Please look at the board and post model name (e.g. MS-7360) and PCB-Version (e.g. V1.0).
    About your temperature problem:
Tools like Real Temp read the data they use to calculate the CPU's Core Temperatures directly from the registers of the processor.  Your increased system temperatures are most likely caused by one of the following reasons:
    - very bad/insufficiant case cooling/airflow
    - the heatsink is not making proper contact with the heatspreader of the processor
    - you are using too much or not enough thermal paste and/or their are air enclosures between heatsink and CPU heatspreader
    - the CPU Fan is not moving (not or improperly connected to the board and/or defective?)
What you should do first (if the CPU Fan does spin):
    - take off the heatsink and clean the contact surfaces of both the heatsink and the processor
    - reaplly a proper amount (not too much and not too less) of quality thermal paste (apply it properly as well)
    - reseat the heatsink and quadruple-check that it is seated properly
    - re-check the Core Temperatures when the system is IDLE and under full load
If nothing changes after this, open the case and put a room fan in front of it to create a maximized airflow accross the heatsink of the CPU.
    My mobo is a P35* Neo-F
    And how about the multiplier?
    Thanks

  • Fans blowing like mad, northbridge temp soaring

I've had my Mac pro for a week now. All of a sudden yesterday the fans starting blowing like crazy (over 2800 rpm on cpu fanaccord to smcFanControl). Northbridge temp will go from 49 C to 100 C in just a matter of seconds. I've run hardware test multiple times and everything is reported okay. I unplugged my machine to reset smc twice now. Yesterday it worked fine for a while, but now the fans are back to spinning like mad and temp reported at 94 C on cpu. Any ideas?

Ended up taking the machine to the Apple Store. While the tech was nice, he at first tried to insist that I needed to call Apple and send the machine back to them. I told him if that was the sort of service I wanted I would have bought a Windows machine! He seemed to understand where I was coming from and took in the machine. While I don't have it back yet, it dos indeed sound like it is a logic board and they are going to replace it. Given I had the machine less than two weeks when this problem came up I'm a bit disappointed with Apple. Can't help but wonder if the move to the Intel processor didn't play a role.

  • Northbridge temp? my fan broke so now im using a passive

My nortbridgefan broke so i installed a Zalmann passive but there is no tempsensor for nb.
So im using my chassi temp-diod and it says that the passive heatsink is around 60c(130f), Its that ok?

freeman_swe , What are your system specs ( see my signature as an example of what we need to see)
I know on the 865/875 series boards the northbridge does not have a temp sender . The readings that people report seeing are just stray voltage that is being converted into a reading by the board
I am betting that this is the same in your case as you state you are seening temps in the range of 60c which is what I see also
Don't worry about it , you northbridge will work fine with a passive cooler attached

  • *Solved* MSI P43 Neo-F DPC Latency Issue - Latest BIOS Fix

Hi, I'd like to avail of the latest BIOS fix for the DPC latency problem on my MSI P43 Neo-F (MS-7519) 1.0.
I'm currently using BIOS 1.9, I haven't flashed to 1.A yet. Does 1.A include a fix or is there another BIOS that's as up-to-date as 1.9 or 1.A that would have the fix, with any links to download? I'm thinking along the lines of the A7519ICI.1xx series, whatever is the latest.
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: I have contacted MSI at http://ocss.msi.com.tw/
I don't suppose there is any links to the latest A7519ICI.1xx BIOS that I can avail of outside of the private MSI FTP server?

    Thanks all for the advice.
OK, so here's the story. I couldn't relax with those voltages showing up as they were, so I flashed my BIOS to A7519IMS.1A0 (1.A), which is the latest public release for the P43 Neo-F. I was previously on A7519IMS.190 (1.9) before today.
When I flashed to A7519ICI.104, I noticed the version number was actually 1.10B4 (which I'm guessing can actually be expressed as 1.AB4 - a beta version for the latest public release, 1.A). The flash to A7519ICI.104 solved the DPC Latency issue, as when I used A7519IMS.190 (1.9) it was spiking.
There is a happy ending. The flash to A7519IMS.1A0 (1.A) has also shown no spikes in the DPC Latency test. It seems the fix must be present in the latest public release BIOS for the P43 Neo-F after-all!
This screen-shot was taken just a moment ago, proof that the issue has been resolved without a modified BIOS:
Hope this helps anyone else out who is using the same motherboard and experiencing the same issues. Just get the latest public BIOS. No hassle!
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1484
Please make sure that your motherboard is in-fact the MSI P43 Neo-F (MS-7519) before you flash the BIOS with any of the ones contained within the link above

  • Disk Error - Unable to fix with disk utility

My mac was acting a little wonky today - I noticed that some programs weren't shutting down when I tried to quit them, so I ran Onyx. Immediately I recieved the note that I needed to repair my start disk with the installation disk. So, I tried that. The disk utility was not able to repair it - The error I received was " Invalid catalog record type
    Volume check failed
    1HFS Volume Checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
I thought about purchasing Disk Warrior to try to repair it but I have no idea if it will even work on this type of error. I did free up quite a bit of space from my HD because I thought perhaps there wasn't enough free space and ran the disk utility again. received the same error. I am a bit technically challenged when it comes to trying to troubleshoot. I thought perhaps someone would be able to tell me if I should invest in DW or I should just replace the Hard Drive. It's only about 9 months old. Thanks so much.

That is a directory error. It can be fixed with software, but Disk Utility is not an Industrial-strength fixer. There is NO compelling reason to replace your hard drive hardware.
Disk Warrior is a File utility. It works very hard to collect all possible information about your files, build a new directory, and (only if you allow it) to replace the old directory with its new error-free directory. It is a good tool to have on hand, and well respected in this marketplace.
It is not sensitive to the type of error encountered -- it will use all available info to build a new directory from scratch. That will eliminate the error. I own and use Disk Warrior, and recommend it.
You should be careful about using 10.3 and older versions of ANY Utilities on 10.4 and later directories, as the directory format changed a bit with 10.4.
I got a card in the mail for a US$50 (plus US$12 for discs) offer good through 31 October 2009 for several Utilities including Tech Tool Pro (another alternative to Disk Warrior). You definitely want the bootable disc of any disk repair utility you buy. It generally takes about five minutes to boot up, but it leaves your hard drive completely available to be repaired.
I have no connection to this company and do not know if it is reputable. Their package requires 10.4, 10.5, or 10.6 and seems to be offered by Intego as a promotion for their Virus Barrier and other software.

  • Safari fixed with iTunes update?

Anybody notice the Safari problems improved or fixed with the recent iTunes 5.1 update? I have been surfing for an hour to sites that would cause a system freeze/crash. Since the iTunes update, Safari has not caused a freeze. Safari seems to load faster as well.

My point, JPolk, was that one should not assume anything when doing problem definition. The
    similar issue
observation presumes that one is seeing the universe of Apple users on these forums - a fatally flawed conclusion. To extrapolate from posts here is roughly akin to going to a hospital and assuming everyone is sick in the world.
When and wherever a problem manifests itself is not an absolute pointer to a problem. It is most easy to 'blame' someone or something else, rather than tracking down what
    b MAY
    be a localized problem.

  • How do I monitor my northbridge temps? - P6N Diamond

That stupid little northbridge fan is stupidly loud so I'm playing with taking the fan out. How can I monitor my northbridge temps? Both my nvidia controls and speedfan give me environment and cpu and gpu, but none give me northbridge temps. Can any tell me how to monitor my northbridge temps?

You will need a thermal sensing device to determine the temperature properly but the P6N Diamond does not run really hot anyways.

  • Northbridge Temp @ idle: 55°C !!!?

    Hi,
since some weeks my northbridge temp is 55°C... even when idle
    - i have a xaser 3 with all 7 fans running...
    - no OC
    - NB fan speed @ maximum
some time ago i had my p2.4c OC'ed to 3ghz and the nb temp was not higher than 52°C even under 100% load !
the case temp did not increase... actually it decreased because here is winter now...
    very strange, isn't it ?
is 55°C critical or still ok ?
    thx in advance...
    p.s.: my other temps (idle)
    cpu: 39°C
    sys: 34°C

I was worried about this temperature. 60° and more idle...
i've mailed the thecnical support and this is the answer:
    Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting MSI Technical Support.
Please refer to http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/software/swr/spt_swr_list.php?kind=1 for Corecenter 1.6.0.0. NB temperature read from corecenter is a little higher. We have removed this item in new version corecenter .
You may choose other software to measure NB temperature. Sorry for any inconveninece.
Thank you for supporting MSI product. Please feel free to let us know if you still have any further issues or inquiries.
    Best regards,
    MSI Technical Support
So, who's right? i guess it's very curious to ensure those temperatures but if there is no capture in the northbridge where does it comes from? i've got a zalman nb47 with artic thermal paste and this temperature is still 60° or more.. i've added an akassa 400m at about 3000rpm and not lost even a degree... i've read a test on http://www.viperlair.com wher"s ther tester shows +10) when simply removed ther original thermal pad fot thermal paste...pergaps it'as a contact problem?? i'll try a thermal pad soon..

  • P4 temp with bios v3.6

    Hi,
I have installed the latest bios (v3.6) on my motherboard two days ago. I am noticing that while before my CPU reached a max temp of 55C under load conditions, now it goes up to 64C! (Speedfan readings). I don't understand why. Everything in the hardware remained unchanged and all my fans are working fine. So I would like to know if this could be somehow caused by the new bios.
    Thanks

    Dear Guys,
Please kindly help me to solve my problem with my old system.
I have an old system that I want to use as HTPC. The specs are:
     -MSI 865 PE NEO 2 S
     -1 Gb of RAM
-P4 2,66 Ghz Northwood with Hyper threading function enable.
     -320 GB of HDD.
     -HD 3650 AGP
     -FSP Bluestorm II 500 watt
     -Main board Bios v 2.5
The problem is, when I want to change the processor with P4 3,2 Ghz SL6WG (Northwood) 512kb /  FSB 800. My system wont boot at all.
    Based from:
    http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=543
The P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood CPU listed as a compatible CPU for my mainboard.
I have tried clear the CMOS by shorting the 2 pins, remove the CMOS battery in the mainboard and still no results so far.
When I see the LED bracket it show 4 red light.
I have tested my system with P4 3.0 E Ghz (Prescott) SL7E4 and show no problems. My system run fine.
Am I got a bad CPU (bad P4 3,2 Ghz Northwood) or maybe this CPU not compatible with my mainboard?
Thanks a lot for the response.

You mean when you press the power button, lights come on and fans start spinning, but there are no beeps and there is no display?
The CPU is compatible with that board, so if your system doesn't start with it in, then it must be a bad CPU.
Its definitely a SL6WG? (as shown on the CPU surface)
Yes the processor definitely SL6WG, I saw the code myself in the surface of the processor.
When I start my system with SL6WG installed, there are no beeps sound at all. However all the fan and my pc peripherals starting. My monitor only show the blank screen. with the led bracket in the back show 4 red light.
When I change back my processor to 2,66 Ghz Northwood or 3.0 E prescott my systems runs fine.
    thx
