865-PE Neo2 P -- BIOS 48 LBA mode

Hi, I am having some problems with a Maxtor ata-160G drive, with the MSI 865-PE Neo2 P board. I read the maxtor lists, and based on their recommendations used the maxblast3 software to create 3 partitions.. however when I load Windows XP Pro, it doesn't recognize the partitions. Worse, even after loading XP SP1 and running the maxtor big_drive_enabler.exe, Windows thinks it's a 148G drive rather than the 160 G it is. I was told that the BIOS might need tweaking if it doesn't properly support 48-bit LBA mode .. question is, does anyone know whether the bios shipped w/ this board supports it, and how do I go about enabling it?
Thanks.

if that bit was not working it would see it as sub 137 gb
thats about right any way
as drive makers use a metric gb
not a proper on
and you loose by the format as well

When will the MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum BIOS 1.C be released?

Don´t know the reason for you guys, for updating bios, but basically I would recommend Syars modded EasyBios, based on the 1C3 (1C0) version.
    Check out the link in Syars sig or read it here;
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=59711.0
and read about the differant version and you´ll get a pretty good idea whats changed and added.

  • Bye-bye Neo2-FIS2R BIOS v1.3!!!!

I notice the 865PE Neo2-FIS2R BIOS v1.3 has been taken off the US web site but not the Tiawan site (.tw).  Anyone know why??  My guess it's either the legal battle with Intel over enabling PAT on the 865PE or they finally got it that this version of the BIOS is buggy as all get out.
Either way, I wish they would tell us.  It would be especially nice if they gave us a clear path through Live Update to flash back the BIOS to an earlier version and get away from the instabilities of v1.3. (Hint)
    Interesting stuff.
    Lanio

Also, the US site has only version 1.4 of the 875P Neo BIOS while the Taiwan site has had version 1.6 for over a month now.
In http://www.msi.com.tw/program/e_service/forum/index.php?threadid=25639&boardid=10, a user reported that Live Update found a new version of bios (vs current Rev 1.4) , so he downloaded and ran it but it asked him to flash the Bios in D.O.S. mode with a floppy - it didn't do it "Live"
I suspect various DOT bugs prevent them from continuing the release so as to minimize RMA claims
I hope they have a nice surprise in terms of a QUALITY BIOS soon, but from the previews reported (e.g. 1.74) it seems unlikely.

  • Can't acces bios in supervisor mode.

Hello people on the lenovo forums,
Someone gave me his old thinkpad T60P, he said that the laptop doesn't work anymore. So when i started the laptop, i got a black screen and the laptop turned itself off after 2 seconds After resetting the bios with removing the battery, the laptop started and loaded the bios, yeah! The laptop have a error about the cmos and the time/date but i think that's normal after an bios reset, the laptop went automatically to the bios and i exited the bios with the F10 button. But after that, the laptop wouldn't start anymore. The same problem as before, i turn the laptop on, the laptop gives for 2 seconds a black screen and turns itself after 2 secons off. I already replaced the bios battery twice but the laptop won't work. So after a few attempts, i noticed that the bios started in user mode and NOT in supervisor mode. So i started (after clearing the cmos again) the laptop again and pushed F1 to enter the bios in supervisor mode, the laptop says "entering bios", then there are some errors about the cmos and date/time and the bios enters again in user mode, aaarrrgggghhh! And in user mode, you can't edit the settings so the bios can't save his settings after a cmos reset and i think that when you restart the laptop, the bios can't load because he couldn't save his default settings. If i go to the security tab, it says then that the supervisor password is disabled but when i want to edit some settings, the laptop says that i have to be in supervisor mode. But i can't boot in supervisor mode so it's just like walking in a circle Does someone has a fix for this problem?
    Thank you

I think I'd check if the computer is able to boot from a disc first, if it can, then you may get the bios to reflash, but there is a good chance you have a bad system board and that could make it even worse. The good side to this is boards for these things are inexpensive and abundant.

  • Mega 865 - MSI Media Center SLOW on Music mode (CD audio)

    Hello,
I'm having a problem with the Mega 865, when I'm playing CD audio with the Home Theatre / MSI Media Center Deluxe II application.  It seems to VERY, extremely slow.  It takes about 30 seconds for the application to respond when I directly click into the application, and it does not hardly ever respond to the remote.  When I try to close the application once it has begun playing an audio CD, it does not respond very well, usually not within 30 seconds.  When I open the task manager, the CPU usage is between 90 & 100 percent.  I looked at the system requirements for this application, and the computer has over twice the requirements, so that is not the problem at all.  I tried updating to DirectX 9.0b and Media Player 9, but that did not seem to improve performance.  Any suggestions?
    Thanks,

  • [Other 865 Series] MSI 865PE Neo2-V and Dual Channel Mode Question

Hello, I have a quick question regarding dual channel mode with my current motherboard. I have an MSI 865PE Neo2-V and am wondering if it is possible to enable dual channel mode while having three RAM modules inserted in the motherboard.
For example, I currently have one 512MB PC3200 module in my computer. If I purchase another 512MB module and run them in dual channel mode, will it be possible to buy a 1GB module or another size module, and still have all three slots run in dual channel mode? Or is dual channel only operational on this motherboard if only two of the three slots are occupied?
    Thanks.

Dual channel requires an even number of sticks.

  • 865pe Neo2-s Bios Flash Issues

I was given a computer with an 865pe Neo2-s motherboard and the system worked fine.  The system has 2 hard drives a 40gb ide seagate and a 250gb SATA seagate.  I loaded windows xp onto the sata drive without issue.  I inadvertently flashed the bios with v2.5 and now I can't get the system to boot windows.  The chipset is a ICH5 (not raid).  What are the bios settings and drive jumper settings I should be using to setup the SATA drive as the boot.  I also have 2 CD/DVD drives on IDE1, the IDE seagate is on IDE2 setup as master.

Q: How to enable both SATA and PATA?
You can use both Legacy mode and Native mode, depending on how many devices you use as described above.
    For Legacy Mode:
    ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: PATA First/SATA First, depending on which you want to act as 1st Channel.
S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th, depending on which you want to act as Master.
    For Native Mode:
ATA Configuration: SATA Only or PATA only, depending on which you want to be the FIRST BOOT device!
S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose PATA only
P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose SATA Only
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: PATA First/SATA First, depending on which you want to act as 1st Channel.
S-ATA Ports Definition: - P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th, depending on which you want to act as Master.
Q: What is S-ATA Ports Definition?
There are two options: P0-1st/P1-2nd and P0-3rd/P1-4th. If you choose P0-1st/P1-2nd, your Port-0 S-ATA (SER-1) will become the 1st IDE Master, ie IDE-1 Master. and Port-1 S-ATA (SER-2) will become 2nd IDE Master. If you plan to boot with SATA HDD, it's recommended to set to P0-1st/P1-2nd. If you plan to boot with PATA HDD, it's recommended to set to P0-3rd/P1-4th.
Q: When I enable SATA+PATA mode, why only IDE-1 or IDE-2 can be used?
If you chose "SATA 1st Channel", IDE-1 will be dropped. If you chose "PATA 1st Channel", IDE-2 will be dropped.
Q: I want my SATA to be the 1st IDE drive in Legacy Mode along with PATA, how?
    Set this:
    ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: don't care
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: don't care
    PATA Channel Selection: don't care
Combined Mode Operation: SATA 1st Channel
    S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd
With this configuration, you can have your SER-1 and SER-2 act as IDE-1 master and slave. But you can only connect your PATA drives on IDE-2 slot.

  • P35 neo2-fr,Bios flashed to 1.9.E8400 e0 bsod ?.

    Hi.
I built a system for my brother with these parts,
     P35 neo2-fr,
     E8400 E0
4gig G-skill F2-6400CL4D-4GBPI-B  ram (that will not work with this mobo so I had to swap it with my other brothers Geill kit to get the system to work, The board is stable with the Geil ram),
     Xfx gtx260,
     OCZ 600W StealthXStream psu.
I read other topics on this forum and found out that the mobo had to be flashed to the version 1.9 bios to get this cpu to work with the mobo. I have flashed it to the newer bios.
The problem is that the pc keeps crashing to blue screens giving varios error codes at differant times and types of operation. I have tested and primed the pc with a Q6600 (mine) and my other brothers E6400 with no issues, the pc is stable and without any issues. This leads us in the direction of the E8400 been faulty...But.  I have tested the E8400 on another pc and primed it for 2hrs with no errors.
I think that there is just a compatability issue with the chip and board and mabe I need a newer bios ?. I have alredy downloaded the bios again and flashed the mobo with the new dl'd bios to make sure.
Is there any new bios revisions coming out soon so I can try to resolve this or does any one have any other suggestions ?.
I bought this board because I have my old northwood 3gig rig running a 865 neo2 platinum board the last 4-5 yrs with no probs at all and thought the new version would be as hassle free.
     Help!!!!.

    2 ,and there plugged in.
     I've checked all psu connections.
I've been building pc's for about 4yrs now for customers and family.
The components have all been tested individualy.
When I put my Q6600 onto the board I forgot to set the fsb jumpers to 266mhz and the chip booted as 333mhz x4 (3ghz) I benched it with prime and it was stable. My Q66 ( batch l737b )runs at 3gig on 1.2v all day so i knew it was good to go.
Its got me scratching my head

  • K8T Neo2 Series bios v3.2 released

MSI has posted bios version 3.2 for the K8T Neo2 series of boards.
    Update description:-
-Support USB devices under DOS mode.
    -Update CPU Microcode (3000+, 3200+, 3500+)
    -BIOS reported incorrect CPU temperature.

    Hi
    Had opposite prob.
ATI radeon is iffy, so I was configing it, there are 2 settings in AGP 66 and 75 MHZ, mine works on 66 by ' default', but if I try 75Mhz, its a reset cmos jumper job.  I assumed the monitor driver is at 66Mhz, and that was the root of problem, as Monitor runs on 4 rigs, have not bothered altering display settings.

    PLEASE...THERE IS NO 1.52 Beta NEO2 BIOS.
There was a mixup with someones config, as he had the Neo2 (939)board and not the Neo (754) one.
I say again.DON'T flash any 1.52 BIOS to Neo2 Board. It will fux it.That post quoted was wrong.I just left it there for people to see not to follow.
The latest beta Neo2 BIOS is the 1.51 and i will be sending it later today to syar2003 along with the 1.4 official so all of you can download it.

  • How to trigger the BIOS CRISIS Recovery mode for Thinkpad T61.

For any other laptop, there's a possibility to run a BIOS crisis recovery, by holding Win-B or Fn-B and a few other conditions, one can make the laptop to boot up from a USB floppy drive and restore BIOS even if it's not working. But it seems that it doesn't work for ThinkPads, or I don't know to trigger the mode.
    Thank you in advance.

Your post was very helpful. It did the trick. The photos of the screens and etc. helped.
I am using a Toshiba laptop that came with Winddows 8.1 (64bit), which allegedly supports UEFI boot.
Initially, the boot failed and after trying different settings I recalled a statement that not all USBs work the same and results may vary. I tried another USB and your selections worke perfect.
I did not revert the BIOS settings and the machine boots properly to the normal login.
My need for a bootable USB is to boot the laptop if the hard drive fails. This allows to either re-image it or replace the hard drive and for re-image it. The key is the bootable media.
    Thanks for your effort..!

  • X61s BIOS in user mode

Even though the picture is of a lock and a hdd (the boot up protect password according to manual) bypassing this by entering no password takes me into the BIOS but I am unable to change any options as it is in user, not supervisor mode. Has the previous owner set a supervisor password and the only way to bypass this is to send it in to Lenovo? Presumably this involves some expense, as it does not seem to be covered by warranty.

You got it right. The previous owner locked the BIOS with a Supervisor password.
I'm not sure that you'd like the expense of Lenovo fixing this for you, since it would call for a motherboard replacement.
My option would be to contact the previous owner and see whether they still have the password, and if not, try to return the machine.
    Good luck.
