865G Neo2 suddenly powers off and won't reboot

I originally posted this in another topic but I guess I should have started a new one so here's the original post:
Motherboard: 865G Neo2 (MS-6728) Ver 1.(latest bios update 2.50); Intel Pentium 4 2.40GHz Northwood; Hitachi 80Gb hds722580vlat20;  PowerColor ATI Radeon 9200 SE 128Mb R92LE-C3S (identified in windows as ATI Radeon 9250); 2GB DDR no-name ram;  Macron MPT-400 400W power supply; Windows XP Professional SP2
Power supply stats:
+5V     : 35A
+12V   : 15A
-5V      : 0.5A
-12V    : 0.8A
+3.3    : 22A
+5VSB : 3A
All drivers in windows are up to date.
Problem is that the computer will just suddenly turn off.  If you try to turn it on again it won't turn on.  Removing the bios battery does nothing.  Only way to make the computer boot again is to turn the power supply off with the switch on the back, wait a little while and then turn it back on.  Very annoying as this is my work pc so the computer just suddenly turning off can be a real problem making me lose work etc. It even caused windows to become corrupt once not even allowing me to go into the recovery console to try and fix it.  Had to do a repair install to fix it.
Any suggestions as to what would be causing it? I can only imagine that it's a MB or power supply problem. The fact that I can turn off the powersupply wait a little while and then am able to boot suggests to me that it's the motherboard.  Some capicitors have to discharge and clear memory or something before the system will boot again.  I'm at a loss.

Well the computer ran all day yesterday without dying once.  Then this morning it died a short while after turning the computer on.  So I looked around for another PSU and put that in.  Unfortunately it's only rated as a 300W but I noticed that it has about the same max power for the combined 3.3V + 5V output being 200W compared to the previous 210W.  Anyway even though it is a less powerful PSU I figure that the system I'm using isn't doing that much intensive work so it should be fine.  So if this one also exhibits the same problems as the last one I will conclude that it's the motherboard and not the PSU.
Problem is that it will die just randomly whther it's under load or not or even just sitting doing nothing.  So even if it doesn't die again today it doesn't mean that it's fixed.  Ohwell...  I'll tell you how it goes.

I have not heard of a good reason for this to happen or how to fix. 3 days later my screen lights up and says to connect to charger.... so its back "for now". Best music player on the market when it works.

  • My iphone has suddenly turned off and won't turn back on

This is a replacement phone as mine broke after updating I've only had it 3 months and now it's suddenly gone off and won't turn on I've tried the reset but it's totally blank if I return to the shop will I be made to pay again for a replacement??

You say your tried a reset, holding the sleep/wake and home buttons until you see the Apple logo? How long did you hold the buttons, it could take up to 30 seconds of holding for it to work. If this doesn't do it, then plug the device into the charger for a minimum of 30 minutes, then try the reset again. If you still cannot reset the device, make an appointment for the Genius Bar. Paying for a replacement depends on the warranty status of that device.
If your other device was under warranty, the replacement would have a warranty of 90 days or the balance of the original phone warranty, whichever is the longest.

My Canon MX892 suddenly powered off in the miccle of a print job and will not turn back on.

Reset, hold both home and power buttons until the iPhone begins to restart, usually about 10 seconds time. If still problem, connect iPhone to Wall Charger and Reset, this can take about 20 seconds of holding both buttons while on charger.

  • Windows 10, shut off and won't reboot

Windows 10 installed, welcome page came up, said Hi M, and as I started to read, it shut it's self off and will not reboot, doesn't even turn on. It's brand new, had it a week and have olny received email and surfed the web.

Unfortunately, this does sound like a dead Time Capsule.
As  last ditch effort, try a full factory default reset as follows:
    Power off the Time Capsule
    Wait 20-30 minutes
Hold in the reset button first, and keep holding it for another 9-10 seconds while you simultaneously plug the power back in to the Time Capsule
Release the reset button after the 9-10 second hold period and allow a full minute for the Time Capsule to restart
If still no luck, the Time Capsule will need to be replaced or repaired. If the Time Capsule is still in warranty, Apple will replace the device for you. Or, if you have AppleCare in effect on one of your Macs, the Time Capsule might be covered if it is not past 3 years of age.
Apple will not offer repairs, but they are possible. See this link for more details:

  • My iphone 4s suddenly cut off and won't cut back on.

It absolutely will not turn on. I tried holding the home and sleep button, but it failed. I tried charging it, and it only flashes the apple logo on and off again. I tried holding the buttons again while it did this, but it only tells me to plug it into itunes.
I tried plugging it into my computer to reboot it from itunes, but guess what? Itunes won't recognize it. My computer, and every computer I"ve tried plugging it into won't recognize it either. Itunes is up to date, and I've tried every trouble shooting idea I"ve seen on this forum.
I just bought this phone four months ago. It has been in an otterbox since the moment I opened it. It is not dinged, it is not scratched, it is not shattered... it is in absolutely perfect condition. It's absolutely positively ridiculous that my brand new phone is now a worthless piece of plastic unless I want to spend $200 to send it in to be fixed.
I'm so peeved, and I'd be really grateful to anyone who can help me.

If it's "brand new" it has a 1 year warranty. Take it to an Apple store and they will replace it. You can check the warranty status here: Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage
You can also try to restore it using Recovery Mode

  • My phone suddenly turned off and won't turn back on.

My phone went off without warning and I can't get it to turn back on.  Whay would this have happened and how can I fix it?

razmee209 is right, if your iPhone has stopped responding like wont turn OFF or ON. touch screen wont respond, do that 2 button reset (hold the sleep/wake button and home button until you see the Apple logo).

  • 2007 MBPro suddenly switches off and won't turn on for days..

..but then works fine again for a few weeks before it dies again. The battery is still OK and the charger has been changed recently. When it's working it's working solid, on battery as well as plugged-in.
But every few weeks, all of a sudden it just completely dies and there's is nothing I can do to revive it. I've tried everything. I even opened it a few times to make sure there are no loose cables or anything. It's annoying because I don't want to throw it out as long as it's working and it just lies around during the its "dead phases".
Could it be the powermanager or something? Would a fix be worth it? I'm thinking of trying to fix it myself.

If System Profiler shows it as a MacBookPro3,1 or 4,1, you may wish to have Apple look at it. There is a known issue with the video chipset in those models (Mid-Late 2007 and Early 2008):
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377
If affected, they will repalce the logic board at no cost to you. The test has to be made in an Apple Store or AASP to qualify.
It's worth making sure that is NOT the problem before doing further troubleshooting.

  • T61P - 6459-CTO 1 beep right before it powers off and won't boot up

Hi All. I have a T61P and and having issues that i cannot identify. First off, when i turn it on, it will boot if i leave it on my lap but if i rest it on a table, it wont boot. When it does boot up, the Thinkpad icon appears but is distorted with colored pixels (sort of like starry sky) followed by a blank screen with random font appearing ie. upside down question mark, a couple zeroes, etc... all randomly placed.  I cannot run in normal mode. Only in safe mode - when it actually boots, and in safe mode, it is also distorted with the colored pixels/dots. If in the case it does not boot up, the screen remains black and when i hold down the power button to shut down, it will beep once right before it totally turns off.
Has anyone heard of this? Please let me know asap as i have ran a harddrive diagnostic that failed and purchased a new hard drive but am not sure if thats the issue. Thank you!!!

i think your nvidia GPU is the culprit of this problem, read the above link. In order to qualify for this repair, you would have to get the 1-2-2-1 beep sequence.

  • Macbook pro (2013 late) suddenly turned off and won't turn on

i got my new mac yesterday and was installing some adobe software (legal) and my computer minutes later shut down the power lead has a green light. the power button does nothing and there was no hint there was anything wrong before my computer died

If your MBP is only a day old, and you purchased it from Apple, bring it back for an exchange or a refund.  You have 14 days from the date of purchase to exercise this option.
    Ciao.

  • MacBook Pro Turned Off and Won't Reboot

I had been playing a video game for about an hour. Afterwards, I strated surfing the net and in about 15 seconds, the computer just turned off. I noticed it was rediculously hot, so I inplugged it, removed the battery, and let it sit until it cooled off.
After I reinstalled the battery, I held the power button and nothing really happened. The front LED turned on, but no other activity whatesoever took place; not a sound. So, I held the power button and the indicator turned off.
It's almost like the thing is completely dead. I would appreciate any help, because I am a student, and I really can't afford to have it fixed.

    As an update:
I listened more carefully, and it seems like the hard drive is spinning up; however, the computer does not make what sounds like the optical drive ejecting, nor is there any sound or picture.
The activity is actually barely audible.
    Thanks again.

  • My phone all of the sudden is off and will not turn back on. It's a brand new iPhone 5

My phone all of the sudden is off and won't turn back on.

    Hi Ashley0607,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I'm sorry to hear you are having issues with your iPhone 5.
Follow the steps below if the iPhone is not powering on:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIs and corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
I hope this information helps ....
    Have a great day!

  • IMac G5 shuts off and won't restart

Mac suddenly shuts off, and won't restart. Begins to boot, but shuts down again, sometimes after only a few seconds and before the chime, sometimes after 30 seconds, sometimes after several minutes. After many attempts, can sometimes get restarted. If I hold in the power button, I get a long tone, and then sometimes get a gray screen with Linux style text, and if I type mac-boot as prompted, it will usually reboot. Then its good for a day, or several days but eventually, will go off and I can't reliably get back to that gray screen with text.
Not a techie, or Linux fluent...just got there by accident.
Is there something I can do / reset / or replace to fix this? (Yes, I know the computer's old, but I'm not ready to go to the Intel chip and the expense of repurchasing all my software yet!!)
    Thanks for any help.

I have the same 1.8 GHz iMAC G5, and had the same problem of the computer shutting off abruptly, and then not starting up - shutting down after the chime, or sometime during the start-up process (I don't know about the gray screen - never tried that). Eventually the computer just wouldn't turn on at all - now it's dead.
I found this Apple support article recently, which shows how to diagnose a dead iMac G5, to see whether the computer has a bad power supply or a bad logic board. It might be helpful - in my case, it points to a bad logic board. Maybe both are bad (?). The procedure is for a dead computer, but maybe it would show something in your case too.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2173
Good luck. I don't how much it would cost to put in a new logic board or power supply. I love the monitor on the G5 iMac (beautiful non-glossy), and I wish I knew of a way to use the monitor by itself.
