865p NEO IDE Driver

Hi,
should i install the IDE driver for my 865p NEO board to fully take
advantage of U-ATA 100 feature ? My system spec is shown below.

Intel inf is enough, you can also install the intel application accelerator specificly for the IDE (IAA) but I don't like it.

  • IDE drives not recognized by K8N Neo 2 Bios: Revisited

I am truely reaching my wits end with this problem and I'm beginning to believe that I'm not alone in dealing with this issue. Let me recap.  After building my new system around the K8N Neo 2 m.b. and a AMD Athlon 64 3200 939, (Winchester) cpu I booted for the first time only to find that none of my hdds were recognized.  Optical drives yes but not my two Maxtor IDE drives. Initially no variation in configuration would get the board to recognize my hdds but then suddenly, for no apparent reason my hdds were recognized but try as I may I cannot install another hdd as a slave on IDE channel 1.  If I attempt this the master drive no longer is recognized.  An optical as slave yes but not a hdd.  Keep in mind I am no novice although this is the first MSI board I have purchased.  I have checked the cables, (all good), made certain that the jumpers were set correctly and have tested the drives in my other system and they are good to go.  I even flashed my bios in the hope that ultimately it would make a difference. Since I had a working system and nothing seemed to be helping I decided to let it rest for a week. However, this weekend while installing a program that required reboot I discovered that the system was slow and it turns out that one of my drives had disappeared to XP.  Rebooting, I discovered that the drive was not detected by the bios during the reboot,  that is until I turned off the system altogether and did a cold boot. It worked.
I would just write it off as a defective m.b. if it wasn't for the fact that it has continued to recognize optical drives in all configurations.  Can anyone offer any insight into this problem? This really makes no sense to me and I'm the type of person who wants to understand.

How are your hard  drives if you have no opticals connected.
HD are definately in IDE1 ??
Makes no difference; with the opticals taken out no drives were detected.  Install the opticals on either channel without hdd's and they were detected.  Like I wrote, finally the board was able to detect hdds but put another hdd on the same channel and poof, neither were detected.  Neither channel appears able to accept more than 1 hdd period.  Right now I have 1 hdd, (boot drive) on channel 1 and a secondary hdd and an optical on channel 2.  It works but what disturbed me was the fact that during a reboot  this weekend my hdd on   the 2nd channel was not recognized and continued to be not recognized until I did a cold boot.  This situation makes my head ache    Bad IDE controller? Bad BIOS? Weird IDE cable problem? Bad PS?

  • 865P Neo - LED meaning?

I just put in the new 865P Neo board with a P4 2.4 HT & Kingston 512 DDR400 stick.  When I try to boot it (btw never get anything showing on the monitor) - I get to only the #3 green showing (all others red) and beeps twice in succession then once a second or two later.  What's the meaning of this?  The manual says "Allocating resources to ISA" - no idea what that means.
Note:  I've taken all the cards (both PCI and AGP) out, unhooked the drives - still same #3 laughing at me.
Other note - when I take out the memory stick - it stops at #2 green only.  Doesn't make much sense because that means initializing the floppy!
Note2: I also get like 9 beeps on the #4 green only - but it continues on...

You only have One stick of ram? I had the same problem and came to find out that it was a memory compatibility issue. So try using a different stick of memory and see how that works. If it doesnt work, Then check your jumper settings. Try using O/B sound and video to see if you can get to the bios and work it out from there.

  • Cannot use IDE drive with SATA drive

I just installed a 60GB Maxtor Serial ATA hard drive in VIA port 1. However, when I install my previous Maxtor 20GB EIDE hard drive in IDE1, bootup hangs at the "Serial Ch. 0/Ch. 1 device" detection screen.
Is there a trick to this??? I really need the data off my IDE drive. How do I get an IDE drive to exist along side a pre-installed SATA drive?
And does it matter if the IDE drive is set for Master or Slave?

The IDE drive should be set to "master" or "slave" depending on which connector of the cable you're using.  The IDE cable included with the board clearly labels which is which.
You didn't say but I'll assume you have a K8T Neo.
If you still cannot get it to work, you should try the Promise controller.

  • How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??

How many IDE drives & CDrom can be installed with SATA drives??
i have 2 IDE hard disks & 2 CDROM drives: can install SATA hard disk added to these drives or do i have to remove some???
& if it can be added, can i install 2 SATA drives???
    THX in advance

The 3 versions of this board that are available are:
    875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0)
    875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)
All of these boards will have the following ports provider by the chipsets ICH5R south bridge.
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
    2 x PATA (Supporting 4 IDE devices)
All 6 of these can be used at the same time (provided you are using win XP or 2K) you just need to make sure yor BIOS is set right.
    ->INTEGRATED PERIPHERALS
    ->ON-CHIP IDE CONFIG
ATA CONFIG: S-ATA ONLY or P-ATA ONLY
    S-ATA/P-ATA KEEP ENABLED: YES
    OPERATE MODE:
If you set to "legacy mode" S-ATA are set to channel 1 and 2 and P-ATA to channel 3 and 4. If you set to "native mode" P-ATA are channel 1 and 2 and S-ATA 3 and 4. You can only use the raid functionfon SATA in native mode.
If you have the 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0) you will also have the following ports provided by the Promise PDC20378 PCI controller:
2 x SATA (Supporting 2 SATA HDD drives)
1 x PATA (Supporting 1 Master IDE HDD drive)
The PATA port is limited to 1 Master HDD by the lite BIOS. This can in theory be upgraded to the full BIOS supporting a master and a slave, but this may obviously void your warranty.
So the answer to your origional question is:
    2 x SATA HDDs and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) or 875P Neo-LSR (PCB 1.0)
    or
    4 x SATA HDDs, 1 x IDE HDD (2 if you modify the BIOS) and 4 x IDE HDD/CDROM if you have 875P Neo-FIS2R (PCB 1.0)

  • Help!!! Intel 865P Neo Board

    Dear All,
Currently, I've changed my MSI board from Intel 845GE Max-L to 865P Neo Board and seems like I was unable to play games (eg: NFS HP2, C&C General). When I start up the game, after the movies introduction, supposed it will reach the main menu, but it hang there, no display, my monitor power cut off, no sound either. I can't see anything at all.
Everything was running fine, except running games. Should be Intel 865P better than Intel 845GE. Hope you guys can help me solved this problem for me. The BIOS setting is set to default, no overclocking.
    I've change my system from:
    P4 2.0GHZ
    MSI Intel 845GE Max-L
    512MB PC2100 (DDR266)
    to:
    P4 2.53GHz
    MSI Intel 865P Neo Board
    2X 256MB PC3200 (DDR400) = 512MB
    Using the same graphic card:
Hercules 3D Prophet Radeon 8500LE Series (4X AGP Card)
    Pls help!!! Thanxs!!!!

Hmmm, it\'s in one of the menu options (where you can set processor voltage and such)..
    There\'s 4 possible settings for it when I looked (266, 333, AUTO, 400)..
Take it off AUTO and set it to 266..
I tried wat you have told me...set to 266MHz
still the same... Monitor power will just cut off. Cannot see anything. Do u guys think is the power supply prob?
I'm using a 300Watt PW. but I was wondering if PW not enough, it will not be able to bootup.

    1. Make a bootable system floppy disk by typing [FORMAT A:/S] from the DOS prompt.
    2. Download the BIOS file from MSI web page.
    3. Extract the BIOS file into the bootable floppy.
    4. Boot up system with the bootable floppy disk.
    5. Run Award (Ex. Awdfl770) or AMI (Ex. amifl822.exe) Flash utility & follow the on-screen
       instructions.
    6. After flashing the BIOS, reboot system, press [DEL] to go into BIOS setup.
    7. Select [Load Setup Default] for or [Load Optimized Defaults] and press Key [Enter] and
       press Key [Y].
    8. Press Key [F10] than answer [Y] to reboot system again and finish upgrade procedure.
I think this F10 key (above) is (a shortcut key for [save & exit] inside BIOS).

  • 865P NEO wont stand by in XP

Hi, this problem I think is related to my post titled "XP shutdown problem". I fixed it by turning on Keyboard PowerOn Function (installing XP SP1 didn't solved the problem. I only assumed).
My new problem is when my PC goes to S1 standby it immedialty wakes up (all of the monitor events are set to ignore while in the wakeup, everything is disabled except Keyboard PowerOn Function).
When the PC goes to S3 standby it won't standby until I press a key (could still heard the fans rotating)!

    2 X 256MB TwinMOSS DDR 400
    Lite On DVD-ROM

After a month of test and optimizing toverify MB stability, I just migrated to WInXP from WinME and noticed a difference in the way they "suspend" on the same board!
I am using STR3 and have ACPI enabled:
    1. ME would suspend but leave the power supply completely ON - i.e. the HD's and fans.
    2. XP would suspend and shut down power to the internal optical drives and the case and PS fans.
I do have KBDPOwerON disbled though.

Can you restate this? What key do you have to press?

  • 865P Neo - reboots unexpectly

    Hello,
I just bouth a new 865P Neo motherboard and after I installed WIN XP Pro the computer reboots from time to time...for example if I am playing a game or listen music or even when I copy files from a disk partition to another...
    Here is my system:
    865P Neo motherboard
CPU: P4 2,4 Ghz Nortwood FSB 133 Mhz Bus Speed 533Mhz
    Memory: DDR-SDRAM PC2700 256MB (Freq. 167 Mhz FSB:DRAM 4:5 CAS 2.5 RAS to CAS 3 RAS Precharge 3 Cycle time 7)
    HDD: Maxtor 40 GB
    Video: Matrox G450 Dual Head
    Power source: 3.3 V=24 A, 5V=35A, 12V=12A

12A for +12v is only 120~130watts for the system, whereas a P4 with 2.4B GHz CPU will consume about 180watts with RAMs and CD drives + HDDs...
Btw, have you install intel.inf driver yet? Tryi installing and see if it works.

  • 865P NEO random lockups.

    Hi Folks,
It's been two days now that I have tried every possible system component stress test, voltage and configuration adjustment and even clean Windows 98SE installation tests in order to eliminate or at least locate the cause of random lockups sometimes in games, sometimes even just at system idle.
    My system configuration is:
    Enermax 300 Watts PSU
    865P NEO (not NEO 2) Bios v1.1
Pentium 2.4B 533Mhz bus (no overclocking done)
    ThermalTake Spark 7 Cooler
Two Kingston DDR 333Mhz sticks in Dual Channel mode
    ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
    Seagate Barracuda 40Gb
    Sound Blaster Audigy sound card
    Liteon 48x24x48 CDRW
I know these kind of problems are the most difficult to detect, so any idea at this moment is very welcome. All I can say is that all these components were tested also on an ASUS P4S800 without any single issue, what leads me to think of a possible falty motherboard.
Thanks in advance for sharing you experiences.
    Gig

    Hi NovJoe,
Thanks for you kind response. I discarded in the first place the PSU, as I mention in my message, due to the fact that the same components worked using the same PSU on an ASUS P4S800 flawleslly. Besides, if you calculate the total power consumption of the components I have, taking in account that in some stress tests like (3DMark) not all are involved, I think you'll agree that the PSU it's not an issue.
As a matter a fact, yesterday i finally managed to eradicate those mind buggling random lockups selecting the Performance Mode in the BIOS and setting the CPU voltage to 1.575. As opposite of the Fail Safe Mode, the other one brought much more stability to the system, but watching closely the voltages, I have note an incredible CPU voltage drop to almost 1.44V. I know, you'll say: "I told was the PSU", but I did the same test with the ASUS motheboard and the CPU voltage was steady as a rock. So, I said to myself: "We'll let's pump it up a bit to prevent that low voltage drops. Voila, now the variations go between 1.52 and 1.57. Reslult: NO more lockups.
The only thing that remains unanswered to me is if all 865P NEO have that CPU voltage drop issue. So, I kindly invite anyone who is willing to and have a couple of minutes to take peek into the System Health option in the BIOS and post the CPU minimum and maximum voltage ranges.
Thanks once again for your postings.

  • Trouble finding IDE drives...

    Hi!
I´ve search the forum and found some questions regarding this issue, but I haven´t found any solution yet. So I hope some clever guy here might have some answers.
My problem is that (almost) every time I cold boot my computer it freezes at the BIOS screen with the message "finding IDE drives". The nothing happens. I can´t go to BIOS set up or do anything. If I wait about a minute or two and then do a warm boot (i e press the reset button) everything works fine. The problem only occur when I cold boot my computer, not when the computer is up and running and I do warm boot. Could it have something to do with my PSU? Anyhow besides that my computer works excellent - but it is a bit iriitating...
    Here is my setup:

    Hi there,
Yes you have some point in saying that your PSU is a bit weak specially when it as 2 rails of 12v it's better to have 1 with that combined power of those 2.
But for the problem at hand, try to exchange the opticals to IDE1 and the discs to IDE2, this if you have the OS installed in the SATA HDD if not well.....
Go to a stronger PSU to, but that's only my opinion....
    Be well....

  • K8N Neo Platinum driver installation

There are 4 downloadable mainboard driver zips at MSI for K8N Neo Platinum (not including BIOS a upgrade) -
    1. NVSA020.zip - SATA controller drivers
    2. NF3_CK8S.zip - Chipset drivers including:
    Ethernet NRM driver
    Network management tools
    GART driver
SMBus driver with updated uninstaller files
*Win2K IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
*WinXP IDE 2.6 driver with updated uninstaller files
    3. USB2W9XME009.zip - USB 2.0 drivers
    4. ALC69.zip - onboard Realtek audio drivers
    *applicable version of Win OS
Are ALL these drivers from MSI to be loaded?
I think I read in some other posts where some of these drivers (?) cause problems and therefore default Win OS (or chipset manufacturer) drivers should be used instead. Is there a concensus (or list) of which drivers should or shouldn't be installed and the correct procedures and order for doing it?

    1. NVSA020.zip, these drivers come in a diskete with your mainboard as well but possibly on an earlier version. You will need these if you plan to use a SATA Raid/ or simply a SATA drive when installing your OS of choice. Please note that if you plan to use a single SATA drive use SATA 3 or 4. In this case the drivers are not necessary but rather optional.
    2. These are the nforce platform drivers. You can either use the ones off the msi site or the ones from nvidia's site. In any case i would suggest you replace the IDE driver package with the 2.5's -> http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_ide_4.15_win2KXP.html
    3. if you plan updating to a sp 1 or 2 versionof xp, you will probably not need these.
    4. ALC69.zip - > Here is the latest realtek drivers.

  • Problems with BIOS recognizing IDE drives

I recently built a new system around a MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum board but have run into a problem.  Initially the BIOS would recognize only optical drives but not my two hard drives?  It did not matter where the opticals were placed, IDE Channel 1 or 2, as master or slave they would be recognized but not the hard drives no matter what configuration on Channel 1 or 2.  I used different cables some I know were functioning well in my other system but still no BIOS recognition of my hdds.  After much consternation and sweat I finally was able to get the board to recognized one of my hdd's on Channel 1 and the other on Channel two with one optical drive added to Channel 2.  However, if I attempt to install any additional hdds on channel 1 the BIOS goes back to not finding any drives?!!!   I remove one of the drives and it again recognizes my one hdd.  I have finally reached my "I can't think of anything else so what am I missing" point.  I have run into IDE configuration problems in the past but this has me totally stumped.  If the IDE in the board is bad why will it recognize optical drives but hdds only under certain circumstances?  Anyone run into this and more importantly is there any hope.  Currently my system is running with my boot drive on IDE 1 and one of my extra hdds on IDE 2 with one of my optical drives so I'm up and running but terribly limited.  Thanks in advance for any assistance you might provide.

Thanks for getting back to me.  I'm at work but as much as I can explain at this point, my system configuration is as follows:
MSI K8N Neo 2 Platinum mobo
    AMD Athlon 64 3200 socket 939
    X Connect 500W PS
Primary Boot IDE drive: Maxtor 120gb Now conntected to IDE Channel 1
Secondary HDD: Maxtor 160gb drive connected to IDE Channel 2
Optical Drive:  Sony 710A Dual Layer DVD drive
My plan was to install my boot hdd and a data hdd on Channel 1 and two optical drives on Channel 2 set up with the boot as master and the data drive as slave and the opticals also set up as master slave.
During my initial boot the BIOS recognized the two optical drives but neither of the hdds.
I tried various combinations including boot hdd-optical on Channel 1/data-optical on Channel 2 and in every case the MB recognized the optical drives but not the hdds.  They were appropriately set to master slave so that should not have been an issue.
I'm not certain what finally made the difference, at one point I disconnected the floppy and the bios finally recognized one of the hdds.  I reconnected the floppy and the hdd was still recognized.  Fine so far.  I installed everything and I was right back to opticals being recognized but not hdds.  Removed the data hdd and the boot drive was recognized and the two opticals.  Finally I installed everything in the order mentioned above and I have a working system.  The problem now is if I try to install another hdd on IDE channel 1 no hdd drives are recognized.  Oh, and I have tried various IDE cables some of which I know are good and the same problem comes up.  This is the most perplexing problem I have ever run into!
