865pe neo (not neo 2) prescott support

Does anyone know if the 865pe neo supports the new prescott core processors?

It's not in this list: http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_cpu_support_detail.php?UID=prescott
but I doubt they would even test your board for compatibility.
Even the Neo2's don't work with the faster ones, so you are better off not taking the chance.

    well suddenly my MSI 865PE neo-2p is not working, no beeps, no screen tuning on, and the d bracket2 is all wierd
    lights 1 and 2 are going red and green like a schoolbus
    lights 3 and 4 are red
    board is out of case (on a wooden piece of wood) and the problem still percists
    i have everything but the d bracket and power wires going to the board disconected
    i also tried a diff PSU, no change

    What I'd do is to strip off the system completely and only put CPU, and then RAM, and then display.... one by one, and see how far the system goes.
    Try this
    1. board + CPU --> 3 long beeps, indicating no RAM --> your CPU is fine.
    2. board + CPU + RAM  -> 8 long and short beeps, indicating no display, --> your RAM is fine.
    3. board + CPU + RAM + display card --> see the POST screen --> everything is OK.
    4. add in HDD --> detected in the BIOS --> everything is OK.
    5. add everything else --> detected in BIOS --> everything is OK. Continue boot to Winblows. See anything missing.
    If you can't even get out of 1, 2, or 3. Try clear CMOS.

  • MSI 865PE Neo 3-F + Intel P4 640

    Hello,
    I have a problem with a MSI 865PE Neo 3-F motherboard combined with an Intel 640 cpu.
    I cannot install Windows XP SP2, everytime at 35 minutes remaining, the computer resets itself.
    First I had bios v5.0, and couldn't flash to v5.2, after using a Intel 520 cpu I could flash to v5.2, but the problem remains.
    Tried several ram-modules, hdd, vga-cards, psu's, ...
    Anyone know if there is a solution for this ?  Maybe a new bios-version or beta-bios ?
    Thanks,
    Jan

    Two things you could test;
    Run memtest86 for any mem.errors ( you can do this by creatings a DOS disc and boot from floppy )
    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
    Not sure about the 410w chieftec - Is that a ATX2.0 PSU with 24pin connector ? ( 12v1 =15amp + 12v2=18 amps)
    Do you use a 24-20 pin adapter ?
    If I´m correct, your MoBo still got the 20-pin MoBo + 4-pin cpu powerconnector, and too be sure about the power issue, I would have prefered a PSU with some 450w and a singel 12v line with minimum 22 amps on the 12v line. The newer P4/ Prescott cpu´s needs a lot of 12v power.- Be sure that both 20pin and 4pin are firmly in place on the MoBo.
    Most highly recommended PSU´s are Enermax, Antec, Tagan, OCZ, but there are others as well as long as you avoid the cheap ones -
    PS - about mem.voltage it would be 2.7v not 1.7v as you wrote, but assume this was only a typingfault.

  • 865PE Neo-PFISR Stable in Prime 95----but won't run the 3DMarks at all????

    I don't get it.....
    This board (865PE Neo-PFISR) is VERY stable in Prime 95-----yet I can maybe get through the first test of any of the 3Dmarks----and PCMark will always fail as well.
    I even reverted to STOCK, default settings.
    Uninstalled and reinstalled the 9700Pro drivers (Cat 4.4s)---also uninstalled and reinstalled the benchmarks.
    Upped voltages for everything....
    It's like it hates my 9700Pro which is a Rev 1.3 card and I've never had it not get along with everything.
    Anybody had problems with 9700Pros and this or a similar P series or other MSI board???
    Suggestions??
    Solutions??
    Thanks-----John

    Tried ATI's 9700Pro----and was scared to death of ATI's drivers....

    My ATI 9800Pro is superb and my 9800XT is outrageous.....

  • 865PE Neo Stability issues

    Having stability issues aswell as electrical ones.
    First off, System specs, Not OC'ed.
    865PE Neo-l (6742)(BIOS 1.1)

    Maxtor 120gb 6Y120L0, 32bit transfers on.
    WinXp Pro, 1 partition, SP1, Latest patches from windowsupdate.
    Problem:
    System is highly unstable while it is under high load, running demanding apps or games like Battlefield 1942 ( BF1942 patched to v1.4, DirectX 9.0b).
    Time between lockup's is 10-15 mins. Much earlier though if
    system has been running for awhile.
    1.
    Cpu temp rises to 68 degrees celcius under load, dont
    know if this is normal. Idle 59 degrees. System temp stays around 34 degrees.
    2.
    PC Alert 4 latest version warns 3.3v too low.
    Red letters indicate 2.93v. System has been tested with
    another PSU, same response.
    3.
    Disabled onboard AC97 sounddevice in BIOS. BF1942 still locks up.
    4.
    Tested both with ASUS (Win2KXP_4471A) and NVIDIA drivers (45.23_win2kxp_international).
    5.
    BIOS Defaults, System tested with both Optimal and Failsafe settings.
    6.
    Tested swap memorysticks, from 1xVM 512mb -> TwinMos PC2700 CL2.5 256MB x2, No positive results.
    7.
    PC Alert 4 report system fan runs 2340rpm. vcore=1.47. +5v=5.00, +12v=11.34.
    Added extra casefan to help pushning out heat, no avail.
    What may it be? RMA only option?
    TIA for any help.

    Ok, here are the voltage readings from BIOS
    VCore 1.456-72
    3.3V  2.944V
    +5V   5.113V
    +12V  11.437-98V
    -12V  11.825V
    -5V   4.926V
    Battery 3.088V
    +5SB  4.896V
    (The numbers after the hyphen '-', indicate a switching value)
    The multimeter reading at a molex (yellow cable) says approx +11.79V at Win XP desktop idle and 11.68V under the game. Red cable on molex shows 5.12V while idle, no drastic change under load.
    Just curious, how are the general opinions about electrical
    readings. should they never go below the voltage they must
    feed? Or is there room for some margin the voltage can go
    below?
    Havent yet tested changing videocard, will do that. Having no temperature sensors, cant check easily vga card temp.
    btw, 'Apic Acpi SCI IRQ' isnt enabled in bios, is this essential?

  • 965 neo f AHCI support?

    965 neo f board support ahci mode? I cant see my bios

    I am not talking about the northbridge (P965).  I am talking about the Southbridge. Your board has an ICH8 southbridge and it doesn't support AHCI mode.
    Have a look here:
    http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/imst/sb/CS-012304.htm
    Quote
    AHCI is built into chipsets with the following controller hubs:
        * Intel® 82801IR/IO Controller Hub (ICH9R) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801HEM I/O Controller Hub (ICH8M-E) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801HBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH8M) - AHCI only
        * Intel® 82801HR/HH/HO I/O Controller Hub (ICH8R) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 631xESB/632xESB I/O Controller Hub - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801GHM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7MDH) - RAID only
        * Intel® 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M) - AHCI only
        * Intel® 82801GR I/O Controller Hub (ICH7R) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801GH I/O Controller Hub (ICH7DH) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801FR I/O Controller Hub (ICH6R) - RAID and AHCI
        * Intel® 82801FBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH6M) - AHCI only
    There is no ICH8 in the list (Only ICH8R, ICH8M and ICH8M-E).
    So again:  The P965 Neo-F has an ICH8 southbridge, that doesn't support AHCI mode.
    Quote
    asus p5b support ahci mode
    That depends on which P5B you are referring to:
    http://event.asus.com/2006/mb/P5B/models.html
    What I said about the Intel ICH8 southbridge is not true for the secondary JMicron (JMB361) controller that provides an additional SATA port.  As far as I know, the JMB361 doesn't need to be switched to AHCI mode in BIOS:

  • Great DOT improvement using Bios 3.6 for 865PE Neo-2 P series

    Great DOT improvement of Bios 3.6O for 865PE Neo-2 P series.
    Thanks to NovJoe and everybody in the following thread (especially iliveonhope)
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?sid=&postid=277300#post277300
    The DOT is kind like straight forward approach by reaching the preset DOT on the bios after booting and during aplication for less then 2 second, the old bios is gradually increasing almost 1 minute or more.
    Also the FSB reading on CC is function well not randomly change as on the last Bios.
    The Autooverclocking value using CC if not change by default is always shown the maximum FSB.
    The weaknesess is still the default value using 'save' on CC  that not performing well (its better to have user define FSB value) and also the DOT range could be much higher then the Commander so I can set certain FSB value to max FSB value. (Waiting for the next improvement from the MSI Software Team).
    It will work fine for anybody who use FSB:DRAM Feq. = 1:1 using DDR greater then 400
    Interesting thing about this DOT method is it always back on the lowest FSB during stand-by, for me its great hardware saving (It will be great if the FSB stays on the user define setting).
    Regarding the CPU temperatue is a little bit lower compared with the 865PE Neo-2 S series using the same Heat sink type.
    Its worth to try except it cannot reach the maximum OCing due to the DOT rank limitation.

    What bios version do you used ? is already version 3.6
    If you are using Bios 3.60 try to run PC mark 2002 or other benching software (if you have it), you will note that when the benchmark starting the FSB will raise and then after you stop it in the middle or end the FSB will go back to the lowest FSB (Do it by showing the CC beside the PC mark.

  • 865PE NEO 2 LS onboard audio VS. addon

    Hello Everyone,
    I have a 865PE NEO 2 LS and I currently use the on board audio.  I concider the sound that comes out to be pretty good to my ears.  But I strive for the best,  I hear only good things about the Audigy 2 ZS.  So my question is, for those of you that dont use onboard audio, is a Audigy 2ZS going to sound ALOT better than my onboard audio?
    Speakers Aside,
    -- Nick

    I have the Audigy-2 (not the ZS) And this Question Matters Entirely on How Good your Speakers are , Because if you have a Regular 2.1 Set of Speaks. You will be Hard Pressed to Tell the difference with a "Blidfold Test" Between the 2.......So unless you are going to eventually spend Well over $100.00 US on some Speakers, I would Stick with the Onboard Sound................Sean REILLY875

  • 865PE NEO-2 wouldn't boot on high performance settings

    this is my configuration:
    - 865PE NEO-2-S
    - P4 2.4Mhz, NorthWood, 800FSB
    - MICRON,  2 x 256MB DDR, 400MHZ, in dual channel configuarion  (512 total)
      CAS#: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# Precharge: 4 clocks
      Cycle TIME:  8 clocks
    - Hercules ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128Mb ram.
      with latest bios and drivers
    Bios is flashed to the latest version (v2.50)
    THE PROBLEM:
    My system wouldn't run on anything higher the SLOW setting
    in the "Frequency/Voltage Control Performance Mode" menu in the BIOS.
    when i set it to 'fast' or 'turbo', my WindowsXP crashes.
    when i set it to 'ultra turbo', it wouldn't even boot.
    (i had to reset it several times till it became SLOW mode again)
    when i tried to run the system with Windows98SE, the system freezes.
    (on anything else than SLOW)
    I have no idea what the problem is.
    is there a problem with the board?
    (when i try to manualy overclock it, it's stable on 205 FSB)

    that PAT/MAT not guaranteed to work on 865PE chipset (manufacturer make it possible, but Intel not guarantee it).
    Btw, it's specifically work with RAM. So I think it's your RAM which can't handle.
    (I think) On stock FSB, most RAM stable with Fast, some with Turbo, and rare with Ultra Turbo (under FSB 218, full PAT limit). But some can't run other than Slow (or Normal in some boards).
    Quote
      CAS#: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2.5 clocks   --> is it not 3 or 4?
      RAS# Precharge: 4 clocks
      Cycle TIME:  8 clocks
    (when i try to manualy overclock it, it's stable on 205 FSB)
    Then, it's clear that your RAM isn't high performance RAM and maybe not capable to handle PAT.
    But, still 205 FSB is kinda low, you can try crank your vdimm to around 2.75 to 2.85 (watch your RAM warranty). -and maybe you get better stability on PAT-
    For value RAM maybe -it's can be different- you can expect 210-220 (with loose timing).

  • MSI 865PE Neo-L high temp readings?

    Hello..
    When my system is off for a couple of hours and then i boot up my system,and go directly into the bios,my CPU temperature is already 40-45C° !!! :O
    And even my cooling block isn't hot then(not even warm).
    Also in windows with the MSI software i get those high temperature readings.
    Only with speedfan,the temperatures are more normal.
    Is this a know issue that MSI boards have high temperature readings  ?(
    CPU is a P4 2.6Ghz FSB800
    (system is not overclocked)
    Thanks in advance! :D

    ok,first of all thanks for the reply's guy's!!!
    My system specs :
    MSI 865PE NEO-L (duh :D )
    P4c 2.6Ghz FSB800 with boxed cooler.
    Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM
    2x256 DDR400 ram
    GF4 TI4200 64mb
    Q-tec 400W dual fan.
    DVD drive (lite-on 16xdvd ,52cd-rom)
    CDRW drive(lite-on 52-32-52)
    As said,with corecenter or other MSI software almost directly 45C° Even the heatsink is not warm then.
    (stressed 58-60C°)
    Speedfan gives me more then one temp..
    HD0 : 23C° this should be the harddisk temp i think.
    Temp1 : 29C° this should be the system temm or case temp.
    Temp 2 : 42C° this should be the CPU temp.
    All these readings are IDLE temps.
    And i think those are the wright temps...
    (ps,sorry for my bad english,if you don't understand something,please ask  :D )
    And Naviblue,nice overclock you got there!

    its a CPU problem not a mobo. don't be disappointed from the board. if the CPU can work with DDR2 the board will have those DIMM slots.
    i mean if you got board with DDR2 memory support and also have DDR2 memory sticks, you have to change CPU as well.
