865PE Neo Stability issues

Having stability issues aswell as electrical ones.
First off, System specs, Not OC'ed.
865PE Neo-l (6742)(BIOS 1.1)
512Mb 333DDR
P4 2.40C
Asus V9560 FX 5600 (AGP 8x)
Q-Tec 400W Dual Fan Gold Low Noise (http://www.qtec.info/13352)
Maxtor 120gb 6Y120L0, 32bit transfers on.
WinXp Pro, 1 partition, SP1, Latest patches from windowsupdate.
Problem:
System is highly unstable while it is under high load, running demanding apps or games like Battlefield 1942 ( BF1942 patched to v1.4, DirectX 9.0b).
Time between lockup's is 10-15 mins. Much earlier though if
system has been running for awhile.
1.
Cpu temp rises to 68 degrees celcius under load, dont
know if this is normal. Idle 59 degrees. System temp stays around 34 degrees.
2.
PC Alert 4 latest version warns 3.3v too low.
Red letters indicate 2.93v. System has been tested with
another PSU, same response.
3.
Disabled onboard AC97 sounddevice in BIOS. BF1942 still locks up.
4.
Tested both with ASUS (Win2KXP_4471A) and NVIDIA drivers (45.23_win2kxp_international).
5.
BIOS Defaults, System tested with both Optimal and Failsafe settings.
6.
Tested swap memorysticks, from 1xVM 512mb -> TwinMos PC2700 CL2.5 256MB x2, No positive results.
7.
PC Alert 4 report system fan runs 2340rpm. vcore=1.47. +5v=5.00, +12v=11.34.
Added extra casefan to help pushning out heat, no avail.
What may it be? RMA only option?
TIA for any help.

Ok, here are the voltage readings from BIOS
VCore 1.456-72
3.3V  2.944V
+5V   5.113V
+12V  11.437-98V
-12V  11.825V
-5V   4.926V
Battery 3.088V
+5SB  4.896V
(The numbers after the hyphen '-', indicate a switching value)
The multimeter reading at a molex (yellow cable) says approx +11.79V at Win XP desktop idle and 11.68V under the game. Red cable on molex shows 5.12V while idle, no drastic change under load.
Just curious, how are the general opinions about electrical
readings. should they never go below the voltage they must
feed? Or is there room for some margin the voltage can go
below?
Havent yet tested changing videocard, will do that. Having no temperature sensors, cant check easily vga card temp.
btw, 'Apic Acpi SCI IRQ' isnt enabled in bios, is this essential?

  • 865PE power off issues

i got a ancient 865pe neo-2 ect..... i have been having issues with it not powering off, i got a new power supply (figured i killed the old with overloading it) i installed the new one and it will not power off like a ATX power supply should.
i can hold the button and it will turn off
i never changed the power settings, but something could be a-mis there. what settings do i need to have set
i believe windows tells it to power down cause i hear the hard drives spin down after the shutdown splash goes away (xp)
    i looked at the FAQ
    i cannot set s5 or g3 as modes. i have bios 9/29/04
    9. Power Management
    Q: What are S1/POS and S3/STR modes?
S1/POS = Power On Suspend, nothing turn off just that everything is running in extremely slow.
S3/STR = Suspend to RAM, PSU only powers 5V_STBY to the board for RAM refreshing, the rest all off.
    Additionally,
S4 = Suspend to Disk. Win2k/XP calls it "Hibernation" mode. In this mode, the RAM and CPU state images are copied into the HDD. After S4 mode, you can safely remove the power cord.
S5 = Soft Off. PSU still supplies 5V_STBY.
G3 = mechanical off. No power at all to the board.
Q: Where to set the standby modes?
For S1 and S3, you can set the standby mode to either S1 or S3, not both, in the BIOS. Note that Windows cannot choose which standby mode to run. You have to set it in the BIOS.
For S4, you can only set it in Windows 2k/XP (and ME, but not 98).

the 4 pin breakaway is just hanging there, the other 4 pin is plugged in near the cpu
no it stopped shutting off when i think i overloaded the 500w, the 750 does the same thing,
upon installing the 750 it does not shut off properly, which now leads to yet another bad board(the first one had a LGA socket that was eating cpus) or a bios issue
the 500w was not putting out the volts i needed so i figured it was dead
my voltages are better now though, before they were 11.2-12.0 and i think the +3 was 2.5ish, now they are +12.59 and +3.14 vcc is 5.04
    bios stats it is 9/29/04
    specs are as follows
MSI 865PE Neo-2P (or similar i cant think of the exact name)
    p4 3.2e presshot 800fbs 1mb cache
2048mb ultra dual channel ddr 400 (pc 3200)
    WD PATA 80gb hdd
    WD SATA 160gb hdd
nVidia 7800 GS OC (bfg tech) AGP vid card
    sony burners and flopppy drive
and the ultra x-2 750w power supply
2 case fans, a hdd fan, 2 on the psu , one on the cpu and one on the vid card,
damn cpu gets near 80*c but that normal for this cpu (considering im idleing at 50*c right now, with a case temp or 36*c)

  • 865PE Neo 2 any comments?

I am thinking of buying one of the new 865PE Neo 2 MSI motherboard to run a 2.4 800mhz, has anyone had any problems or success with the board.  just reading some of the treads on the 875 Neo it appears MSI had stuffed things up quite bad this time.  another thing is the so called new feature of "dynamic overclocking" on the new neo 2 boards, is that a good thing or bad thing?
my planned systme at the moment is:
    MSI 865PE neo-2 S
    ati 9500
    2.4 800mhz
seagate 120G serial ATA 8mb cache
    cheers.

I am already running my system based on 865PE Neo2-LS and i am absolutely satisfied with its stability and overclockability. Only one problem i ecpected at the moment is, that my system fails to boot from external PCI
Controller based on Highpoint HPT370 chipset (built by ABIT - type: HOT Rod
100). If no Hard Drive installed on Onboard ICH5 controller, it is possible
to normaly boot from RAID 0 through PCI controller. If any Hard Drive on
Onboard ICH5 detected, booting from external RAID fails even if in BIOS is
selected "Legacy SCSI" as first boot Device. All attemts as moving RAID
controller to another PCI slot, disabling onboard Serial ATA Controller
failed. After booting from another HDD connected to ICH5 RAID 0 is visible
in Windows and working properly. I received from MSI beta bios version 121 and to be honest i am rather disapointed to use them before official release. Do you have some another expactations and comments to this board? Did anyone from you try this beta bios? Is it working properly?

  • 865PE Neo-2 Drivers?

Got this comp from a friend, installed a fresh Windows 7 on it and didn't find any sound drivers?
865PE Neo-2 is what it says on the motherboard, I have been searching all day for this and can't find anything, any help would be greatly appreciated.

get the cmedia xp driver and try it in compatability mode
This message pops up when I try that one, running it in XP SP3 compatibility.
Is it possible something isn't hooked up right in the computer?  I am really at a loss here, would it work if I reformatted with XP?
Quote from: Jack on 08-March-11, 16:17:39
Well, ancient piece of hardware + latest operating system = likely to cause such issues
Yeah I completely understand but it still sucks, what do you think about reformatting with XP?  Would the drivers be easier to get working?

  • 865PE NEO-2 wouldn't boot on high performance settings

    this is my configuration:
    - 865PE NEO-2-S
    - P4 2.4Mhz, NorthWood, 800FSB
    - MICRON,  2 x 256MB DDR, 400MHZ, in dual channel configuarion  (512 total)
      CAS#: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# Precharge: 4 clocks
      Cycle TIME:  8 clocks
    - Hercules ATI RADEON 9800PRO 128Mb ram.
      with latest bios and drivers
Bios is flashed to the latest version (v2.50)
    THE PROBLEM:
My system wouldn't run on anything higher the SLOW setting
in the "Frequency/Voltage Control Performance Mode" menu in the BIOS.
when i set it to 'fast' or 'turbo', my WindowsXP crashes.
when i set it to 'ultra turbo', it wouldn't even boot.
(i had to reset it several times till it became SLOW mode again)
when i tried to run the system with Windows98SE, the system freezes.
    (on anything else than SLOW)
I have no idea what the problem is.
is there a problem with the board?
(when i try to manualy overclock it, it's stable on 205 FSB)

that PAT/MAT not guaranteed to work on 865PE chipset (manufacturer make it possible, but Intel not guarantee it).
Btw, it's specifically work with RAM. So I think it's your RAM which can't handle.
(I think) On stock FSB, most RAM stable with Fast, some with Turbo, and rare with Ultra Turbo (under FSB 218, full PAT limit). But some can't run other than Slow (or Normal in some boards).
    Quote
      CAS#: 2.5 clocks
      RAS# to CAS# Delay: 2.5 clocks   --> is it not 3 or 4?
      RAS# Precharge: 4 clocks
      Cycle TIME:  8 clocks
(when i try to manualy overclock it, it's stable on 205 FSB)
Then, it's clear that your RAM isn't high performance RAM and maybe not capable to handle PAT.
But, still 205 FSB is kinda low, you can try crank your vdimm to around 2.75 to 2.85 (watch your RAM warranty). -and maybe you get better stability on PAT-
For value RAM maybe -it's can be different- you can expect 210-220 (with loose timing).

  • MSI 865PE Neo-L high temp readings?

    Hello..
When my system is off for a couple of hours and then i boot up my system, and go directly into the bios,my CPU temperature is already 40-45C° !!! :O
And even my cooling block isn't hot then(not even warm).
Also in windows with the MSI software i get those high temperature readings.
Only with speedfan, the temperatures are more normal.
Is this a know issue that MSI boards have high temperature readings  ?(
    CPU is a P4 2.6Ghz FSB800
    (system is not overclocked)
    Thanks in advance! :D

ok,first of all thanks for the reply's guy's!!!
    My system specs :
    MSI 865PE NEO-L (duh :D )
    P4c 2.6Ghz FSB800 with boxed cooler.
    Maxtor 30GB 7200RPM
    2x256 DDR400 ram
    GF4 TI4200 64mb
    Q-tec 400W dual fan.
    DVD drive (lite-on 16xdvd ,52cd-rom)
    CDRW drive(lite-on 52-32-52)
As said, with corecenter or other MSI software almost directly 45C° Even the heatsink is not warm then.
    (stressed 58-60C°)
Speedfan gives me more then one temp..
HD0 : 23C° this should be the harddisk temp i think.
Temp1 : 29C° this should be the system temm or case temp.
Temp 2 : 42C° this should be the CPU temp.
All these readings are IDLE temps.
And i think those are the wright temps...
    (ps,sorry for my bad english,if you don't understand something,please ask  :D )
And Naviblue, nice overclock you got there!

  • MSI 865PE Neo 3-F + Intel P4 640

    Hello,
I have a problem with a MSI 865PE Neo 3-F motherboard combined with an Intel 640 cpu.
I cannot install Windows XP SP2, everytime at 35 minutes remaining, the computer resets itself.
First I had bios v5.0, and couldn't flash to v5.2, after using a Intel 520 cpu I could flash to v5.2, but the problem remains.
    Tried several ram-modules, hdd, vga-cards, psu's, ...
Anyone know if there is a solution for this ?  Maybe a new bios-version or beta-bios ?
    Thanks,
    Jan

    Two things you could test;
Run memtest86 for any mem.errors ( you can do this by creatings a DOS disc and boot from floppy )
    http://www.memtest.org/#downiso
    Not sure about the 410w chieftec - Is that a ATX2.0 PSU with 24pin connector ? ( 12v1 =15amp + 12v2=18 amps)
Do you use a 24-20 pin adapter ?
If I´m correct, your MoBo still got the 20-pin MoBo + 4-pin cpu powerconnector, and too be sure about the power issue, I would have prefered a PSU with some 450w and a singel 12v line with minimum 22 amps on the 12v line. The newer P4/ Prescott cpu´s needs a lot of 12v power.- Be sure that both 20pin and 4pin are firmly in place on the MoBo.
Most highly recommended PSU´s are Enermax, Antec, Tagan, OCZ, but there are others as well as long as you avoid the cheap ones -
PS - about mem.voltage it would be 2.7v not 1.7v as you wrote, but assume this was only a typingfault.

  • Massive stability issues - Disk Utility repair failed, hardware test failed

    Hi,
I am having massive stability issues. The installer will not install anything, programs are quitting randomly, and it is getting very annoying!
I read through a lot of posts and I have attempted to:
Repair my disk using the install cd: but that failed.
I did a Hardware test: but i had an error relating to fonts (?), couldn't see anything on the screen and I couldn't do anything.
Is there something else I could do that I haven't tried?
I have had my PB for a little over a year and have had no issues like this before. All of these issues seemed to start when I was playing a game and it suddenly just quit; I then couldn't go back into the game or re-install the game.
    Help!!
    12" Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   768 RAM

    Hi, Dan.
You wrote: "Repair my disk using the install cd: but that failed."That's a big problem. You won't get very far until the problems noted by Repair Disk, the function I presume you ran based on your description, are sorted out. It's possible the hard drive has failed.
If the Apple Hardware Test failed, that's another significant problem. If it produces messages you can read that describe the failure, write them down. The machine may need to be serviced by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
As to your next steps, first run the procedure specified in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified to see what's up with your disk and if anything can be done to correct that.
    Good luck!

  • Shared libary gives error in 10.1.0.3 on AIX 5.2. Is it Stability Issue

    Hi,
I am trying to make a shared library immediately after the server installation for my 32bit MicroFocus COBOL

    Regards
    Ajay

10.1.0.3 is a patchset, not a full release. Patchset are available on metalink , not on OTN.
You can have many databases related to a specific ORACLE_HOME, as long as your system has enough resources to handle these databases. When you create a new database there's no need to stop running database instances.
Installation guide and release notes for 10.2 + certify section of metalink have all informations concerning OS requirements.

  • Performance / stability issues with BDB 3.3.62 while checkpointing

    Hi,
first of all: we use BDB 3.2 for more than a year within our application and we never had any performance or stability issues. Now we are about to release a new version of our software with BDB 3.3 and we found some problems during our release tests.
This is the situation: we have implemented some cleanup routines that make very heavy use of the BDB environment. The common usage pattern is to scan the database (about 300GB with >> 100 million items) and than delete a lot of items from the database. The first versions of our cleanup routine worked without any problem but during performance tuning of our code we suddenly and reproducible encountered segmentation faults in the com.sleepycat.je.recovery.Checkpointer thread. We analysed more that 10 VM crashes and ALL crashes were related to Checkpointer thread. (Linux 64 bit, JDK 1.5.0_013 / 1.6.0_06)
After we removed our performance tuning (only application logic – nothing BDB-related) the VM crashes disappeared – so it looks like some kind of problem which only occurs under high load conditions. Next thing we tried was enabling our performance tuning and setting Ceckpointer configuration to default (write a checkpoint after 20MB) before that we used time based checkpointing with 60 sec interval.
With Default Checkpointer configuration there were no VM-crashes but performance was very slow!
Finally my question: What Checkpointer configuration would you recommend for an environment that is under very high load with regard to delete operations? Would you recommend using “high priority Checkpointing”? Would you recommend time- or data-based checkpointing?
It looks like Checkpointing every 60 seconds was not a good idea but 20MB seems to be too slow.
This leads to another question: What does a longer Checkpointing interval mean for recovery time? Does recovery take substantially longer if checkpointing is done less fequently?
Any help would be very much apprechiated.

  • Does the Imovie 6.0.3 update fix the stability issues?

    Hi,
Been using Imovie 6.0.2 a fair bit lately, and have had quite a few crashes. I see from this forum that I'm not the only one.
I haven't yet been able to update to the latest version (6.0.3) released last week, and would like some user experience opinions about whether the update has fixed the stability issues. Anybody noticed any improvements or otherwise?
My crashes seem to happen pretty randomly, it could be when you're putting a transition in, or just when you click Play or move the playhead. Any time really. I get the little spinning circle and Imovie is hung. Tried leaving it for ages just in case it was eventually going to return, but it doesn't.
    Has the patch fixed it?
    cheers,
    Ian

Software Update says I have nothing that needs updated. Since I know this isnt true, I went to Downloads and attempted to install both updates--it stopped and said I had to go back to the previous download. After a couple journeys back to nowhere, I gave up.

  • Communications Suite 6u1 stability issue

    Hello,
I have a stability issue with Comm Suite 6 Update 1.
    imsimta version
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 7.0-3.01 64bit (built Dec  9 2008)
    libimta.so 7.0-3.01 64bit (built 09:57:35, Dec  9 2008)
    Using /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/config/imta.cnf
SunOS apollo2 5.10 Generic_138888-01 sun4v sparc SUNW,-T5220The server was installed as Communications Suite 6 and I upgraded it to U1 2 weeks ago.
Last weekend I put the whole system into production but unfortunately the SMTP demon hangs from time to time.
Here is some messages from different log files:

    08-Jan-2009 17:44:19.84 tcp_local    +            O [unknown] SMTP
08-Jan-2009 17:44:19.84 tcp_local    +            X [unknown] SMTP Error writing SMTP packetThe problem repeats from time to time and I have to restart the mail server manually.
There are no core dumps in the system and system logs are OK.
There are latest patches installed and the system is very stable itself except SMTP part of CommSuite.
The auto restart is enabled out of the box.
    configutil -o local.autorestart
yesThe server is almost idle. It serves 10 people and there are just few mails going via it.
Obviously there is something wrong with my configuration or it's a bug.
Could someone help me to understand the reason of such instability?

    Hello Shane,
    I appreciate you help.
The dispatcher process crashes by itself, nobody kills it manually :)
The coreadm has been enabled from the installation date and there is just one old core dump for some java process.

I used /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/bin/stop-msg, /opt/sun/comms/messaging64/bin/start-msg commands to do this.
The problem I have is SMTP service stops to work and I cannot receive any emails until I do a restart .
Can I turn on some additional logging either for dispatcher or for SMTP process?
Any ideas how to make it work stable?

  • K8NGM2-FID Stability Issues

Major Stability Issues.  Have yet to install windows successfully.  Tried every bios setting imaginal.  Tried dual channel and single channel memory cofigurations in every memory slot.  When windows tries to install, the system will spontaneously restart, go dark and freeze, or the screen flickers and freezes, basically everything but install windows.  I have also tried Suse Linux 9.3  and have experienced the same results.  I currently have the Engineering pre production version Bios that other users have experienced having.  I have tried to flash/update the bios following the Non-FAT instructions that came with the downloaded V3.1 BIOS zip file and that also has failed.  I've read that other posters said they too could not flash the bios due to the fact that it did not recongnize the chip sets.  Is there a way to update the bios without using the winflash utility?  Is there anything else I should try? RMA?  Help, I'm drowning. Thanks.

Anyways, I have had some limited sucess lately.  MSI sent me Bios 3.13 which CAN be flashed through DOS.  I did a memory test off my Suse 9.3 installation CD to get all my memory timings error free.  I did a Western Digital test to make sure the hard drive was properly working.  Here is where it got weird.  Everytime I went to intall windows, it ask if you agree blah, blah and as soon as I hit F8 to continue it would either lock up or restart itself.  I disabled everything in the Bios, went to one stick of Ram, and moved the harddrive to SATA 3.  And Finally, I was able to get through the install process and finally get windows to boot up.  Once windows is up and running it works great.  The problem I am now experiencing is it doesn't always boot up.  After the machine posts and is in the process of loading windows it will restart itself.  Maybe once out of every 15 startups will windows actual load.  Am I unlucky or is the 500 watt PSU I bought still not good enough? Thanks.

  • Illustrator CS6 Stability Issues- crashing every 5 minutes

    Hi All,
I've been having serious stability issues with Illustrator ever since I upgraded from CS5.5 to CS6. It crashes like every 5 minutes, mostly when I use the "nevigator" tool to pan to another area of the artboard. The windows messsage was something like "the program has stopped working".
I am really sick and tired of that and this is seriously affecting my productivity. Furthermore, does Illustrator has any auto recovery function?
Does anybody know what might be wrong? I am using Windows 7.
    Grateful for your help.
    Best,
    James

I keep having the same problem. It would be half as bad if there was at least an auto recovery function.
    Also on CS6 / Windows 7.

  • InDesign CS5 Stability Issues

I got really fed up today.
Trying to resize a magazine, all the articles are individual documents compiled in a book. So each "chapter" is at least 3 pages and at most 15.
I adore the spanning columns feature, I've got sevral articles that this is very handy to setup. But I find the whole program is completely unstable when using this feature.
I started removing the anchored text frames and applying the spanning columns for the headers, with a paragraph rule above for the background colour.
But if I click around too quickly the whole program freezes and won't budge. I could be selecting an anchored frame to remove it. Or changing paragraph style, or simply opening another panel.
I checked the Task Manager and watched for 15 minutes as InDesign consumed more and more memory - going from 150k to 650k in about 10 minutes.
This happened a bunch of times. I restarted, reset my prefs, exported to idml, and all the other nick nack fixes.
Indesign just keeps bombing out. At which point i have to end the process and then restart indesign and I lose a tiny bit of work.
So frustrated today - over seemingly simple tasks, like selecting something, and the program crashes. This behaviour does not happen when I am not using Span Columns.
Is anyone else having stability issues with CS5 and Spanned Columns?

    Thanks Bob
I thought myself that there was a lot going on. And I appreciate that. But thinking about it, the only addition here is the spanning of columns and balanced columns.
I was at one stage incorpartaing detect edges on an image and had to give up on it because there was a 3 minute delay on simple things like cutting the image (as a test).
I just feel that perhaps more could be done in speeding up InDesign.
I've had a hard enough time updating the software, upgrading the hardware is going to be tough.
I don't think Indesign CS5 minimum specs included a supercomputer either?
