865pe Neo2 BIOS not detected

I have just finished installing the 865pe neo2 and p4 3.0Ghz. When I boot up I get a message that BIOS is not detected. It will nevertheless boot seemingly properly into linux but booting into windows is a bit of a dissaster. I have run the live update from windows and it flashed my BIOS which failed when I rebooted and I had to use the rescue disk that I made b4 I flashed but I still get the message that no BIOS has been found and something about Dram timing.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
Adam

The huge problem is that you CANNOT get to the BIOS.  It hangs before you can get there.  LOL.
Well, I tried using the bios recovery to get to version 1.3, but now it won't post at all.  The D-Bracket says that it is a memory problem, but the memory was fine before changing bios.  I am still working on it...

  • Need help flashing 865PE Neo2 BIOS

I recently bought a MSI 865PE Neo2-S and it came with the 1.2 Bios, I can't get a good overclock from this bios, and when I use corecenter to raise the FSB to 250 at 5:4 ratio it shows 3000 mhz but I see no changes in WCPUID etc, so I decided to flash to the 1.52 BIOS, i've already got it here but I hear you can use a flasher instead of doing the old floopy, dos thing
I downloaded LiveUpdate3 but it will flash my BIOS to 1.4 and I just want to install 1.52
I did a quick search around the forums and didn't find much about it, any help would be appreciated

First of all I suggest that you install LIVE MONITOR and LIVE UPDATE utilities.  Secondly, get yourself a new floppy disk.  Allow utility to go online and retrieve updates for your product.  After that the utilty will tell you what it found. follow directions to the T and install any NEW DRIVERS BEFORE YOU DO ANY FLASHING!!! Reboot new drivers run utility (LIVE-UPDATE)and choose BOIS and start. I recomend you select DOS option over WINDOWS option FOLLOW DIRECTIONS IT WILL PROMPT YOU.. DO NOT!! REBOOT!! UNTIL PROMPTED!! GOOD LUCK!  Sean Reilly875

  • BIOs not detecting ram properly

I have a K8N Neo2 Platinum, with paired 2 x 512 meg of Corsair DRR 400 ram (TWINX1024-3200C2PT), it should be picked up as DDR400 Dual channel, but when the pc boots up its picked up as DDR333 single channel - i am assuming this is wrong!
I have updated the BIOs, the ram is in the right slots for dual channel
I am guessing that i need to set the ram settings to auto in the bios, Corsair state the ram should be run at 200mhz 2.5-3-3-6, but i am not sure which settings in the BIOs the 2.5-3-3-6 refer to, could someone please explain what each number is in the bios settings please! i am hoping this will sort out my system, although it works, it is benchmarking lower than before i upgraded it!!!
i used to get 15000 of 3Dmark2001, now i get 12000, (though it keeps pausing when the demos run, but it doesnt in 3Dmark03 which also gives a low score), i should be getting 23000+
    please help!!!

  • UCS C460 Bios not detect raid

    Hi all,
i have 2 ucs c460, 1st ucs i can boot into webios to create raid
the other 1, pressing ctrl+h , still cant boot into webios
when i check bios at boot options, there is no pci raid adapter detected, only cdrom, network card and efi shell
but at cimc the raid card detected.
    please help

    Hello,
Go to BIOS in the Server tab, then Advanced and then scroll down to the Option ROM (OPROM) settings and disable the Option ROM for all cards except for the RAID controller (if you will boot from local disks)
Note: the OPROM enabled will tell the system to look for a "boot" image through that card, so if you will only boot from local disks (does not matter if you want to have remote data stores, this will not affect your connection to remote storage) disable all OPROM options for all the cards except for the RAID controller.
    HTH,

  • [SOLVED] BIOS not detecting USB Drives after i installed Arch

SOLVED: In BIOS under 'Advanced' disable 'Fast BIOS Mode'.
    Original post:
    Hi there!
I'm fairly new to the arch (and linux) scene and just setup my Samsung 530U3B with a brand new installation of arch. Everything went fine and the system is running flawlessly. Almost.
I just happend to notice that BIOS is not checking for USB drives anymore, it just somehow skips that part. If enter the boot selection, the bootable USB drive won't show up. Neither does it show up in BIOS setup. I tried to boot with the same USB drive that i used to install arch just yesterday, the live media does not boot - the drive doesn't even blink. The boot priority is set to usb drive first, the boot selection screen (hammering f10 during boot) doesn't give me any other option than to boot from the normal SSD. Also, prior to the arch installation (came with w7 installed) the BIOS screen would stay for about 2seconds and then proceed to boot - this doesn't happen anymore. When i press the power button greeted by the grub bootloader in about 1s.
I tried 2 different usb drives, both with the arch iso (same that i used to install the currently running OS, downloaded yesterday). The drives also show up once my arch is booted (starting to blink just after i hit enter in grub). Also, both drives boot without a problem on my desktop computer.
    Anyone got any ideas?
I don't really now what kinda of information would be helpful so i'm just dumping stuff i know:
BIOS: Phoenix SecureCore Tiano Version 04XK
    Machine: Samsung 530U3B
    SSD: Samsung MZ7PC128HAFU-000
ISO used to install (checksum ok): archlinux-2012.07.15-netinstall-dual.iso

    Welcome to the forum.
If you just set the USB stick to be first in the boot order, the next option (from the list) takes its place the moment you unplug it. You need to set the BIOS to boot from your equivalent of "Removable Devices" first, "Internal Drives" second and "Optical Drives" third.
The USB stick doesn't show up at all. I set the priority as follows:
    1. USB HDD
    2. USB FDD
    3. USB CD
    4. SATA CD
    5. SATA HDD
    6. NETWORK
I used that same configuration to install arch. USB doesn't seem to initialize at all. Also, if i enter "usb" in the grub commandline, no devices are listed.
    Thanks!
    UPDATE:
I just figured it out. In my BIOS under 'Advanced' the 'Fast BIOS Mode' was enabled, once i disabled it, everything went fine. I don't remember changing that option. Silly me.
    Sorry for your time

  • 975X Platinum PUE, 7.2 bios not detecting my SATA2 RAID?

Just bought this mobo 3 days ago and had everything working great with XP and all, until I decided to update the BIOS to 7.2 (no specific reason, just wanting the latest!).
    Now XP wont boot :(
It goes through post and all, but it doesnt show the SATA RAID settings (ctrl-i) screen anymore. It seems it only detects the harddrives if I put them as IDE drives in BIOS. If I choose RAID as I had before the flash, it wont detect them.
It goes through all the bootchoices until resorting to a network boot.
Should I try flash it back to 7.1?
    Pardon my english

OK, after sending a troubleshooting report to MSI (very quick response by the way....minutes actually), they stated that they were having no problems with there tests systems that were running RAID 0 and the 7.2, or any other bios for that matter.  They also sent me a 7.33 bios   Of course, I flashed the bios and was greeted with the same problem.     But, that got me to thinking.      So, it tried disabling the Jmicron Controler and it F'N worked!!
In a Nut Shell, These are the BIOS setting I tried and the results:
Jmciron:  IDE   =    No bootable Intel RAID for you.
Jmicron:  RAID  =   No bootable Intel RAID for you.
Jmicron:  DISABLED   =  A very bootable Intel RAID for you!
I guess trial and error is always good.  Again, MSI was very fast to reply.  I guess I can email this 7.33 if anyone else wants it.  I don't have anywhere to post it.

  • BIOS not detecting notebook hard drive after setting default BIOS settings.

I had my Ubuntu 14.04 installed in my laptop in a drive named "Notebook hard drive" in addition to a pre-installed Windows 8. Today I set the default BIOS settings in my laptop and when I rebooted it and tried to use Ubuntu by pressing "F9" key and choosing from the BIOS menu I found my "Notbook hard drive" option missing. My Ubuntu drive is still there but I have no way to access it. Is there any way I can get it back to working?

  • 865PE Neo2-LS not booting consistently

When booting up, my computer sometimes stops. It's always on the same stage. When the table is showing that gives you all kinds of information (irq's, memory etc). Before it starts searching for the boot devices (Floppy, CD, HD).
It's not always, but sometimes 2 to 3 times in a row and sometimes not.
All leds on the D-bracket are green.
    Please help  :( .

That has been happening to me as well. I took my MB back for a replacement when stuff starting going down hill in addition to that.
It seemed like the MB was not talking to the HD.

  • 865PE Neo2(6728) D-Bracket hangs at Memory Detection Test

This is terribly annoying... I just bought the mother board... Its a 865PE Neo2(6728)800mhzFSB the processor is P4 2.4ghz 800mhz, 512k l2-Cache.  I dont know who made it like i know nothing about northwood or whatever, it says Intel on the box...  I have 512MB of "Legacy Electronics" PC3200 64x64 DDR...  I also just bought a NVdia G4 Ti-4200 64mb DDR 4x AGP made by Pixelview.  I have a 160GB WD 8mb Cache 7200 HD...  Ok the problem is when i go to boot up the computer, the VIDEO doesnt come on, and when i installed the "D-Bracket" the lights hang at 3 light, top right green all other red... Says in the manual that problem is memory detection test, testing onboard memory size,  will hang if damaged or not installed properly.  Ok.  I have no idea how that wo;uld happen so, just to check i took out RAM, no dice, i changed video cards to MX440 G4, no dice, i tried disconnection the PCI slot which has the 160GB hard drive connected(why it needs this i dont know, according to WD WinXP needs...) none of this changes anything.. How do i check the onboard memory or could it be anything else?  Ok thats all i have thanks for the help!!

Did you tried to boot up the system without the D-Bracket?
Yes it still does nothing, no video...  Thats why i put in the D-Bracket.  It doesnt sound like its going through the POST either.. I dont know if computers do that anymore thou;gh haha..
If you did, did you change to another piece of RAM to test?
I have no more DDR to put in, only SDRam and im sure that wont work..  I tried moving to different slots, 1 3 and 4 thinking maybe it was backwords i dunno...  Didnt do anything, and you USED to be able to take the ram out and still boot into bios etc...
Did you change any settings in your BIOS?
I havent even gotten video, nada... Black screen.
What is the wattage of the PSU you are using now?
Where do i find the wattage? The watts on the case is uh... 350 or 400 one of the two... The case says USB Deluxe P4 Case... And the watts on the Power supply is 115 if thats what you were wondering... Hope that answer the question

  • 865PE NEO2-FI2R + games = not good

I have a big problem with my new computer.
The system is working like a charm in Windows applications and when I'm working with video editing, however I cannot play any games because of the major stutter I get in all games. I cannot seem to find a fix for this problem :(
I have tried with BIOS 1.3 trough 1.5b2 and it only gets worse for every new BIOS I use, now I'm back at 1.3.
    My system is:
865PE NEO2-FIS2R currently BIOS 1.3 and latest drivers
    2 x 512Mb DDR-400 Apacer
    1 x 80Gb S-ATA as system disk
    2 x 160Gb S-ATA at RAID-0
ATI Radeon 9700 PRO with Catalyst 3.7
    DirectX 9.0b
IDE Busmaster disabled in BIOS (enabled before, this was bad I heard?)
    No overclocking (even tried overclock)
MAT at slow (tried every setting)
D.O.T at disabled (tried every setting)
PCI Latency at 32 (tried 64)
AGP aper. size at 128Mb (tried every setting)
using the built in audio chip (tried disabled)
Windows XP Pro SP1 with every update available.
    FSAA off (tried every setting)
Aniso. filtering at 2x (tried every setting)
    every other setting at "performance"
    AGP 8x (tried 4x)
    Fastwrites on (tried off)
My guess now is that when I had IDE Busmaster enabled and installed the Intel INF pack it installed a busmaster driver which was bad for the system. Could this be the case. I did a fresh install on the system two days ago but I didn't try any games until everything was installed, I didn't expect this to happen :(
The system isn't overheated because I'm using many big fans right now to make sure it isn't overheated.
    I'm lost here, what do I do ? :/

It's really amazing how many quality component systems utilizing the 875/865 chipset(all mobo manufacturers-not MSI specific)have been brought down by an inadequate PSU. This is one component that can no longer be taken for granted. I'm no IRQ expert but it's funny how some systems work better with the onboard sound and others with a seperate soundcard. Also I have seen more USB problems with this chipset than any other. I jumped on this 875 chipset as soon as it came out(couldn't wait any longer to upgrade my old PIII - which I'm in the process of rejuvenating for my son)but I will certainly wait out all the bugs on the upcoming PCI Express platform.

  • Unable to detect Hyper Threading of CPU SL6WE 3.2 in MSI-865PE Neo2

Hi! I am new to this forum and need some help. I have just installed a  Intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz Northwood SL6WE 478 800MHz/512k . I bought this on e-bay and understand that this cpu supports hyper threading. I have enabled hyper threading in the bios, but only see one cpu in Widows System Properties and only one cpu in Windows Task Manager. I had a 2.6 cpu installed previously, no hyper threading. My motherboard is an MSI-865PE Neo2 version 1.1, 2GB Ram ( 4x512 ?), Thermaltke TR2-430W power supply, Freezer 4 Arctic Cooler, Nvidia GeForce 6600, LG DVD RAM burner, 16x DVD ROM, WD 250 gig and an Hitachi 80 gig hard drive. I also used Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste (after using Arcticclean and Surface Purifier). Have I missed somethig? Would appreciate help in solving why I have no hyper threading.

    200 7-3-3-2.5 Ultra Turbo and 212 5-3-3-2.5 Ultra Turbo is a
no boot. Thinks ultra-turbo tries to set mem timings to
2-2-2-5 below 218FSB and my memory can't do that.
Turbo boots ok. Normal setting disabled PAT.
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Turbo PAT on    4.6GB/s
    200 2.5-3-3-7 Normal PAT off  4.2GB/s
    212 2.5-3-3-5 Turbo PAT on    4.8GB/s
    212 2.5-3-3-5 Normal Pat off   4.5GB/s
    Also tried 250 1:1, not prime95 stable
    250 2.5-3-3-7 Ultra-turbo        6GB/s
I think pat is disabled above 218FSB on
1:1 and 5:4 setting, but not on 4:5 setting.
You should get close to or above 6GB/s at
    1:1 250 3-3-3-5 bios overclocking.
Maybe something is running in the background
    stealing cpu power or something?
Well, you have to test some more, maybe a
    fresh windows setup will help?

  • 865PE Neo2-V problem/bad BIOS ver. 6.2

A new BIOS for the 865PE Neo2-V has been posted at http://www.msi.com.tw/program/support/download/dld/spt_dld_detail.php?UID=612&kind=1.   This BIOS did not work for me and I had to revert to version 6.1.    If you plan a BIOS update, make sure you keep your previous version handy!
Symptoms: after the flash, the system would not post.  I had an 8-beep error code (video problems on AMI BIOS).  Removing either or both video cards did not help, neither did the usual (re-set BIOS by jumper, remove battery, remove RAM, disconnect HDs, etc.)  Using the recovery flash method (place BIOS file as AMIBOOT.ROM on a floppy) with version 6.2 resulted in the same issues.  Recovery flash to version 6.1 and all worked fine again.
System specs (if more details are needed I can provide them, I'm not at the system in question right now).
    865PE Neo2-V  (MS-6788)
2x 512MB RAM  (Corsair?  I would need to dig for specifrics)
NVIDIA GeForce 6800GT in AGP slot
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5500 in PCI
(plus a bunch of HDs and USB devices, but this problem occured even with all this removed).

Quote from: crazy on 28-February-06, 08:36:40
I just want to ask one question: you said that after you flashed the bios to the 6.2 version, then it could not even boot. Thus could you tell me how could you flash the bios to 6.1 version?
There is a way to flash the BIOS even when the system won't boot.  For AMI BIOS (as on this board):
1- Format a floppy, and copy the BIOS file to it.
2- Rename the BIOS file to AMIBOOT.ROM
3- Put floppy in the drive.
4- Power up system while holding CTRL-HOME
5- Wait until you hear floppy drive access, then you can release CTRL-HOME
6- When you hear 4 beeps, the BIOS had been flashed from the file on the floppy.
7- Power off, reset BIOS by jumper (just to be safe) and then power up again.

  • 865pe Neo2-s Bios Flash Issues

I was given a computer with an 865pe Neo2-s motherboard and the system worked fine.  The system has 2 hard drives a 40gb ide seagate and a 250gb SATA seagate.  I loaded windows xp onto the sata drive without issue.  I inadvertently flashed the bios with v2.5 and now I can't get the system to boot windows.  The chipset is a ICH5 (not raid).  What are the bios settings and drive jumper settings I should be using to setup the SATA drive as the boot.  I also have 2 CD/DVD drives on IDE1, the IDE seagate is on IDE2 setup as master.

Q: How to enable both SATA and PATA?
You can use both Legacy mode and Native mode, depending on how many devices you use as described above.
    For Legacy Mode:
    ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: PATA First/SATA First, depending on which you want to act as 1st Channel.
S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th, depending on which you want to act as Master.
    For Native Mode:
ATA Configuration: SATA Only or PATA only, depending on which you want to be the FIRST BOOT device!
S-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose PATA only
P-ATA Keep Enabled: Yes if you chose SATA Only
    PATA Channel Selection: Both
Combined Mode Operation: PATA First/SATA First, depending on which you want to act as 1st Channel.
S-ATA Ports Definition: - P0-1st/P1-2nd or P0-3rd/P1-4th, depending on which you want to act as Master.
Q: What is S-ATA Ports Definition?
There are two options: P0-1st/P1-2nd and P0-3rd/P1-4th. If you choose P0-1st/P1-2nd, your Port-0 S-ATA (SER-1) will become the 1st IDE Master, ie IDE-1 Master. and Port-1 S-ATA (SER-2) will become 2nd IDE Master. If you plan to boot with SATA HDD, it's recommended to set to P0-1st/P1-2nd. If you plan to boot with PATA HDD, it's recommended to set to P0-3rd/P1-4th.
Q: When I enable SATA+PATA mode, why only IDE-1 or IDE-2 can be used?
If you chose "SATA 1st Channel", IDE-1 will be dropped. If you chose "PATA 1st Channel", IDE-2 will be dropped.
Q: I want my SATA to be the 1st IDE drive in Legacy Mode along with PATA, how?
    Set this:
    ATA Configuration: PATA+SATA
    S-ATA Keep Enabled: don't care
    P-ATA Keep Enabled: don't care
    PATA Channel Selection: don't care
Combined Mode Operation: SATA 1st Channel
    S-ATA Ports Definition: P0-1st/P1-2nd
With this configuration, you can have your SER-1 and SER-2 act as IDE-1 master and slave. But you can only connect your PATA drives on IDE-2 slot.

I thought over 60 C was cause for concern and would damage the processor!!
I would like to over clock..
thanks,  so far looks like a good system. 8)

    Msipcfixer911,
Yes it is reasonable to want the latest bios for your new motherboard.
But 1.4 is not the best bios. I would advise you to do some research before upgrading.
As I see it your only choise is between 1.3 and beta 1.52 in known working bios to date.
Also your cpu temp should drop once you upgrade.
There is a lot of informative reading in this forum as any
questions you may have about you motherboard have most likly already been asked and anwsered.

I am currently running bios 1.50 on my 865PE NEO2 LS with a 2.6c and it runs fine, I have it fully tweaked and two months ago when I was setting it up, it turned in the highest 3dmark 2003 score for an fx5600, all that with stock cooling and no cheap resolution hacks.  I have run 3dmark over 170 times now to get the system fine tuned and am wondering if any of the bios settings have changed their effects, ie. does PAT still tighten memory?  given that it is only valuram, I am forced to run the 333 multiplier(FSB tops out around 118 on full speed), but the cpu runs great at 250FSB and stock cooling.  I have read most posts in this forum, but cant find much about pros/cons of 1.9, I have no problems with upgrading the bios, but have heard some of the older ones (1.7?) caused more problems than it was worth.
