870A-G54 - Bios recovery requested

Hello, I have bought the mainboard 870A-G54 "second hand" from msi-shop.de and wanted to use it with a AMD Athlon II X4 640 CPU.
On first start up of the new system it told me: "Bios recovery requested. Starting bios recovery" I downloaded 7599vh4.zip from the msi website as I thought it was the correct archive according to the cpu-list to a usb-stick, however the system was asking then explicitely for the file a7599ams.hg0. I downloaded that archive onto the usb stick.
When starting the pc and doing the bios recovery the system is finding the file it wants but directly after then restarting with no effect or it turns me to a blank black screen.
What shall I do now?

Try clearing the CMOS and then start again.
Doesn't change anything.

  • 890FXA-GD70 BIOS Recovery Requested.

    Hello Forum
I just put together a brand new system using the 890FXA-GD70 Motherboard and I have serious problems.
Occasionally the system will freeze and crash.
I will tell my story in order of how this began and all steps I have performed
While in the bios I attempted to change my boot order.  As soon as I changed the device the bios froze.   I started the computer back up
    No screen input.
Reset button does nothing.  System does nothing.
After about 10 reboots with bios resetting and such  I eventually got a message
    “BIOS Recovery Requested”  insert USB…
I tried to reboot a few times
Sometimes I would get the bios recovery requested message
Most times I would get nothing
Eventually I inserted a CF card with a bios image on it
Exact bios image on the MSI site  without changing the file name
The system would scroll the BIOS recovery message over and over until it rebooted
Said it disabled recovery just before it shut down
The machine now boots fine up till I need to start windows and it does not
So I restart and go through the whole problem over again and this time I restore the bios using the built in flash utility in the BIOS  I believe its MFLASH
After the flash and a bios settings reset, windows boots but the whole problem starts over again after trying to do something intensive.
So I re do everything as this is becoming normal procedure dealing with the system freezing in windows or in the bios (randomly in the bios  nothing specifically triggers it)
(everything as in reboot the system till I get the recovery message  put the flash card in and wait till it disables recovery   go into bios and re-flash it)
My last step was I flashed a fresh bios with MFLASH
and then did a memory test with microsofts ram test software outside of windows.  That froze about 7% in and caused the system to beep non stop.
And I’m back to start.  System does not boot, get the bios recovery message if I’m lucky.
No over-clocking is setup  and I use optimal (Auto) settings.
All problems occurs with either ram stick   either paired or alone
    Here is my equipment
    Motherboard : MSI 890FXA-GD70
    CPU : AMD|PH II X6 1100T 3.3G AM3 With OEM Heatsink and fan
    PSU : CORSAIR|CMPSU-650TX 650W
    RAM : 2Gx2|GSKILL F3-12800CL9D-4GB
    HD : WD Black SATA 2 1TB 7200RPM 32MB cache
Video Card : GeForce 7950 512 mb with PCI-E power conencted
OS : Windows 7 Pro 64  (legit fresh install)
    Other Details
USB keyboard Merc Stealth , Microsoft USB Intili Mouse , Internal 5 Port USB cardreader,
    Liteon USB cdrom drive
Monitor is a 52 inch LCD TV using DVI input on a 25 foot cord on max video card resolution when permited 1080
Im guessing this is not a ram or cpu problem but the bios chip may be defective  and when the system loses the bios it freezes
otherwise why would i get bios checksum errors and recovery prompts after each freeze.
Please advise  this is brand new and i should not have something defective this soon.

After spending 12-14 hours on the problem i can now safely give a detailed report of the problem
Disregard what i said before as they were just symptoms of another problem
It boots 100% stable if DIMM slots 1 2 and 3 are empty
it does not matter the make or model of the ram in slot 4 but the system boots and works flawlessly.
I ran extensive tests with prime 95 and memory tests.  It works flawlessly in this configuration.
As soon as a stick of ram goes into any other slot  either singular or dual channel the board does a rapid boot cycle
this constant power on and off if left too long corrupts the bios settings
bios setting problem is rectified by putting one stick of ram into dimm 4 and letting it reset itself in a stable enviorment
also while the system is stable i used the MSI software to check all the voltages and everything appeared normal
    However
if i make the system boot with standard memory configuration  such as one in DIMM 1  or 1+2  i get odd voltage readings
(extremely unstable if im lucky enough to get it to boot)
the NB voltage quickly fluctuates between 1.15  and 1.7+ every min or so  like if there are micro spikes in voltage
While this happens the 2 lights next to the slots indicating i believe the dram power phase blink
    But
When i only put a ram stick into DIMM 4 only one light for the powerphase is lit and it is stable
So this so far is not a corrupt BIOS chip to me but rather a symptom of another problem
I have another CPU coming in the mail tommorow  I will test it out along with a few other boards
    a 1090T
    2 890fxa-gd70's and some others
If i have a hardware problem it will surely be singled out
I will find out what the problem is with this board and post my result.
If anyone has any suggestions to make this board work please comment

  • K430 Bios "original bios recovery request"

    Hi,
I have buyed k430 from mediaworld in Italy.
Last day i have do bios update with wrong bios update from lenovo site, now i only request the BIOS Original Application for restore "Only the bios" to the original K430 bios"!
Is not difficult, ps: in italy the Mediaworld cannot give me this driver, and i think the fast solution is to write to lenovo direcly because the solution is fast """"put BIOS Original application in download support"""" ...
My problem is: the new bios can only see 8 gb of ram .... and i have 16.. but after the wrong update have not chance to restore bios software "ps: i have used the recovery cd, but only recovery partition and os , not the bios"..
Please help me ! Thank you!
ps: many people have speech about remove battery for 2/3 hour from motherboard and the bios restart to initial status, but don't work!"

many time for only have one file!
i think must do this to be fast and only put the link to the original bios file in support area for this product..
Where is the problem for do this?

  • 870A-G54 Bios 17.A (Release Date 2011-03-23) Question

I noticed that bios 17.A came out and was wondering is anyone had something more descriptive than Update CPU module.
I am currently still on 178.1 because every other update (have not tried 17.A yet) hd stability problems,
mainly with my Phenom II x4 965 and
    2x 2GB   G Skill F3-12800CL7-2GBRM
    @ 7-8-7-24 CR2
with all of the other updates, 7-8-7-24-CR2 would cause a lot of stability problems (eg the system fails to boot to post unless I try multiple times  and when it finally does, it will freeze shortly after, but a higher timing like 9-9-9-24 will be stable, ( also cant overclock as high, with 17.1 I can get my CPU to 3.762GHz  and with any of the other newer ones, I can get around 3.6GHz
For the bios 17.A I was wondering if any of these problems are fixed or if someone could provide more details on what was actually fixed  (it is annoying flashing multiple times
(and booting the bios from flash drive doesn't help because you cant change any settings when you do it)

    BTW guys,
    I've got the G54 with Phenom 720 c2 with Ripjaw 1600 MHz (2*2) memory.
No matter what I do, I cannot get the memory run at 1600 MHz. It's either the c2 Phenom or my board cannot run the memory at 1600 Mhz.
    Max I could get stable is;
    FSB: 230
    CPU: 230*15 (3450)
    NB: 2300
    HTLink: 2070
    Memory: 766 (1533)  (7-8-7-24)
3Dmark benchmarks show an improvement with the mentioned spec over a standart 3500 MHz CPU, just overclocking the CPU multi.
Is the increased memory speed (even though it's not 1600) and the increased CPU-NB frequency really an improvement on real world applications, or it's just for benchmark stuff and won't make a difference on gaming?
    Thanks in advance!

  • 870a-g54 bios version 17.18

Anyone who updated their bios to 17.H or 17.17 that had the USB problem does the new version fixes this problem?
I'd like to know if it does and i'll update mine I don't wanna risk on getting more problems on the new version since I just got my motherboard back not to long ago. If anyone has tried the new version & had the same problem as me with the USB please give me Update if it fixes the problem
    thanks!

    @stu
couple of months ago my mobo got fried and they sent me a new one and the one they gave me had the new bios version 17.H (17.17) & for some reason when i turn on my computer if theres USB on the back in my mobo windows wont run it just freezes
This is what i get if i plug a usb in the back of the mobo and it stays like that pretty much and nothing can be done however having 1 usb on either the back or the front it will run the computer fine so i can still use my keyboard to get to bios and all the other stuff in DEL.
also when i let it run til the windows load and put the usb's in the back it runs fine the problem only occurs when i turn on my comp with multiple usb's in the back
my fix for it was i bought a powered HUD 7 port usb so i just turn on my computer and let windows run and just turn on the HUD that has all my mouse, keyboard,HDD, USB's etc.
    here was my old post
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=156632.msg1152471#msg1152471
there was another person who had this problem and had bought a PCIe USB board and that fixed his problem but the mobo usb's still unusable when turning on the computer.

  • New MSI Motherboard G31TM-P21 bios recovery

So I just got a new motherboard delivered to me yesterday from Newegg and installed it right away. At first it was working fine I just had a few other problems going on, just put a newly bought Pentium Dual core inside it and was trying to increase the processor speed thru the bios bus clock. So what happened was my friend recommended me trying to get to 3.8 ghz (originally 3.00 ghz), when I was currently on 3.3 ghz or so from increasing the bus clock to 220 (default 200). That seemed to be working out fine so I decided I'd try to get to 3.8. The bus clock on that turned out to be 254, and at the time I didnt even think about lowering ratios or ram/gpu affections. I restarted after saving the settings and then my computer started to just stop loading all together. It was like it was trying to load everything normally but would stop at random points and stay on whatever screen was there last.
So now comes the problem, after a few reboots of freezing, I finally ended up just getting a Bios recovery requested screen before any type of other screen shows up. Its telling me to put in a usb with the bios file for the motherboard. I've had my friend helping me look up problems and we've tried soo many tests, all of them resulted in the same bios recovery screen.
-Using 1 stick of unnaffected RAM
-Clearing CMOS by taking out battery for at least 5 minutes
    -CMOS Jumper clearing
I've also tried to create a bootable USB for bios flashing and put in the latest bios file and flash tool onto the USB. That results in a screen saying,
"Please copy latest BIOS file into USB flash drive to recover your BIOS
    File not found"
then it loops that until I take out the USB or turn off the computer.
Also there is no FSB switch on my motherboard like there is supposed to be, there is an empty square with 6 solder holes on the board so I cant toggle the FSB back to default using those switches.
I was using this to make a usb bootable for bios flashing: http://www.biosflash.com/e/bios-boot-usb-stick.htm
and I was using these files from MSI to transfer on USB after making bootable USB: http://www.msi.com/product/mb/G31TM-P21.html#/?div=BIOS
So... if anyone can help me to make this work at all I would very much appreciate it. Once I get the bios working again (assuming I can) I'm keeping to default.

Well with the CMOS clearing I already did all of the above, except I left out the battery for 5 minutes, and ended up with the same result for bios recovery. I want to clarify that I cannot even get to the BIOS, as soon as I boot with that motherboard I get an instant black screen with text telling me to insert a USB flash drive with the latest BIOS file. There is no type of menu or anything of any kind.
The specifications of this build was:
    MSI G31TM-P21, MS-7529 Version 1.6 (New motherboard)
Intel Pentium Dual Core E5700 3.00GHz (New Processor)
2 x1GB of DDR2 667 or 800 not sure (same ram on my old motherboard)
Nvidia 8600GT 256 MB DDR3 (same card on old motherboard)
300W Power supply (efficient enough to run old build)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit
Thats about all I can think to add right now that you would possibly need. I know the 2 x1GB of memory still works, as its in my old motherboard again and thats what I'm currently on. I dont have any other way of testing if the Processor was fried, but I'm pretty confident that it was capable of that overclocked speed since there were reviews saying so. If there's any other way I can help please let me know what u need, I would love to get this working.

  • 870A-G54 RAM R/W test failed

    Hello
I build a new system for a friend. I tested it for 2 days non-stop, she had the new computer for a week when this error started to appear. Sometimes (not everytime), when you power up the computer the memory count stops at 4096, beeps twice with error RAM R/W test failed. Also it only detects half the RAM installed (4GB) If you press F1 to continue, it boots to windows OK, but sees just half memory. So far I tried reseating all memory modules and swapping first 2 with the last 2. Also tried to disable DCT Unganged Mode. All settings under Cell menu are default, there is no overclocking. Could it be a faulty RAM module? Motherboard problem? Anybody has any ideas?

    Only X3 and X4 do.

  • 870A-g54 front panel audio missing from bios

Boy is this motherboard full of glitches. Teaches me a lesson about buying the cheapest for crossfire.
I would really love to use my front panel audio. Only problem is my front panel audio isn't in the BIOS!
When i bought my 870A-G54 I had to do a BIOS flash to support my six core CPU. Could the BIOS flash have changed my BIOS menu and taken away the front panel audio setting?
Lol does the motherboard even have an option to turn front panel audio on and off?
I had the bios flashed in the store the moment i baught it so i dont know how the bios looked before the flash. The Guy failed to flash my board because he had the wrong bios update and it was too big. So i had to download the right one from msi myself. People like that shouldn't work in computer stores.
My front panel audio has one of those single plug and go audio cables so im shure i couldn't install it wrong, even had the manual next to me.
Am i to be stuck without front panel audio??

Quote from: Stu on 20-October-11, 03:51:31
BIOS does not have any options for front panel audio, it is controlled by the Realtek Audio Manager control panel.
What's the exact problem you're having?
Well i plug in my headphones to front audio and the software should recognize it and light up the ports on screen. But they stay greyed out and i have no mic or audio.
On my old asus motherboard i had to make shure front panel audio is turned on sorry for the confusion.
any idea why it doesn't pick up my headphones?
Ive tried diffrent headphones lol they dont work either

  • Does 870a-G54 NON FX Motherboard now support Vishera CPU's after bios flash?

I have the non fx version of the 870a-g54, I have the latest bios flashed on my motherboard right now and in the description of the bios update it reads "- Update AGESA code for Vishera CPU"
So is this support for FX cpus now ?
Is the 870a-g54 FX board the same as the mainboard non fx with just support for FX out of the box?
I'm confused, I would really love to upgrade my CPU, I know my motherboard has weak power phasing so I won't be overclocking at all if I did upgrade.
    THoughts?

Quote from: XFM on 16-February-13, 04:59:38
OK, here's a list from MSI I found that support Vishera, if anyone can prove otherwise then go by this list. There is no sense going back and forth without definite proof, as far as I'm concerned the proof is this list.
List of models that support the new AMD FX “Vishera” CPU

Right there -> 890FXA-GD65 ,white socket , has FX support. So white or black it simply has to be tested and stated to work.
It was stated to work with FX 5 months before the CPU release. And this is just one example
Anyway i would say FX  CPU-s SHOULD be used with boards released last year ,just to be safe it doesn t blows up when the CPU reaches some Turbo State.
FX series needs proper VRM stages.

Hello i have some weird problems with my mobo.  CnQ dont work i dont know why , in bios all options are turned not automaticly but forced to be "enable" ,and still my procesor multipler and voltages don't change , at the beginning after installing win7 64x it worked but now no :/.
2.next i have problems with memory i have corsair xms3 2x2gb [email protected]  at old bios(AH0) my memory just did'nt want to work on 1.6k in dual channel and 1,2 slot i tried even to use default voltages tested by corsair (1.65V i had to use 1.66) result it dont work. after putting them into 3,4 slot it works even on 1.5V not 1.65V then i used to have them on 3,4 slot      do u think that 1,2 slot is damaged ?.
3.Problems by bios. I updated my bios to the lastest version (from software downloaded from msi.com  probably it had name "live update 5") , of course updated by usb stick .Then after update i see that my ram looks like reserved bios showing me that i have 2gigs of ram -.- (but only on 3,4 slot x.x) after change slots (1,2) it working and see my full ram (4gigs). Is that HD0 beta version of bios ? it looks like that .I don't see my logo screen it looks like that option was cut off from the bios , i don't see any "corporation" logo while booting the system.
I though that msi making solid motherboards as u can see i have many problems with this mobo.

  • 870A-G54 rev 3 Buldozer support

Hi , i'm confussed , i bought 3 month's ago this board  , when i choosed this board i entered on msi webpage  and i readed "870A-G54" there is nothing about revision , few min ago i entered this page second time and what i have read "870A-G54 (FX)"  WT* is going with msi ,they saying that your board will support octa core < then i bought one  and after months change model of mobo ?. While buldozer comeout msi will say  "teoriticaly" your board support buldozer but  the revision NO!. Can i request to change my mobo model to new revision without buying new board  , i have 2years varranty and bought document ... (send my board to msi and wait for FX rev of my board) -.-....?

I am not sure what exactly it is you are talking about.  I just entered "870A-G54" into the search box of the global MSI website and there is only one model:

Again, not sure what you are talking about.  The fact that no revision was mentioned, does not mean that they promised Bulldozer support.  What does the one thing have to do with the other.  When you checked the CPU Support list a few month ago, I am sure that no Bulldozer CPU was listed in it.
Whatever the case may be, please note that when you check the specifications of the board, you will see a big red note on the top telling you the following:

The Specification may change without notice. The actual products sold are different from areas. Please check the detailed Specification with your local dealers.

No.  As far as I know there is no new revision.  I cannot find anything on the MSI Product pages.

You have a contract with your reseller, not with MSI. As you live in Europe, the reseller is the one you need to contact regarding warranty & RMA claims.  But your board is not defective, so what is the point?
In any case, I checked the BIOS changelogs for your mainboard.  It contains fixes like this:
    Quote
    - Modify some Mojibake in setup menu for AM3+ BOM.
    - Add New MP BOM 200 for AM3+ CPU.
    - Update Agesa module to support AM3+ CPU.
    - Fix system hang on 50h issue when used AM3+ CPU and installed only one memory at DIMM1 or DIMM2.
So, basically, at this point, there is no reason to get angry.
Contact MSI Technical Support directly to find out about the current Bulldozer support status: http://support.msi.com/

  • MSI 870a-G54 Hard drive problem.

About a week ago i reinstalled Windows because it started to slow down (virusses and what not) And as soon as i reinstalled everything (programs games etc etc) One of my harddrives used for games did not show up at the bios and at My computer.
So this entire week i've been trying to get it to work again and i've narrowed down the problem today to the BIOS and/or motherboard not giving the power to the HDD in order for it to start and be recognized in BIOS and Windows.
What ive done to come to this conclusion:
    - Reinstalled Windows twice,
    - Replaced CMOS Battery,
    - Flashed the BIOS to every BIOS setting the MSI website had to offer. None worked for the HDD to get powered up again.
    - Moved CMOS jumper,
    - Changed SATA and powercables on harddrive,
    - Tried the HDD on another test PC i had and reformatted it there as well,
    - Only hooked up the not working HDD to the PC, (HDD did not spin up, and came to the conclusion at this point that motherboard or BIOS is the culprit)
    - Unplugged the powercable to the not working HDD and plugged it back in when the PC was running and i could feel it spinning up, after this i restarted the PC so that the HDD would still get power and it was recognized by the BIOS and Windows and i could use it. As soon as i shut down the PC entirely and restarted it the HDD would not spin up. And i had to unplug power to the HDD and plug it in again and restart PC for it to work properly.
    - Checked for bad sectors nothing found,
Everything else is working perfectly. Except that one HDD not getting the power when booting up the PC.
The HDD in question is the "Samsung HD502HJ 500gig" used for Steam games.
    PC Specs:
CPU: AMD Phenom II x4 955 Black edition. Put on a new CPU cooler last summer (Cooler master Hyper 212 Plus)
    Mobo: MSI 870a-G54
PSU: Antec EarthWatts EA650 (650 Watts)
Graphics card: Powercolor PCS+ HD5870 Put on a custom cooler last summer (Arctic Cooling Accelero Xtreme 5870)
    RAM: Kingston ValueRam 1333Mhz DDR3 (8gigs 4x 2gig) Bought 4 gigs extra last summer
HDD1: Seagate ST3160812 AS 160gig used for Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (Works perfectly)
HDD2: Samsung HD204UI 2TB used for Storage / Other games than i have on Steam. (works perfectly) Bought last summer with the cooling/system upgrade
HDD3: Samsung HD502HJ 500gig used for Steam games. (Does not work anymore after reinstal) Bought 2 years ago along with the rest of the PC
I am completely at a loss here as to what the problem is. I do not have the funds to buy a new piece of hardware at this time (i think the entire week of struggle would back that up for me lol...). And ive basically tried everything what i know and what i've found through Google and friends. Might have been better going straight to MSI forum and post my problem here but narrowing it down to this not only helps me but the person that is going to post below in this thread as well lol.
Thanks in advance and i hope to hear from anyone soon.

Try drive in different PC, as it looks like it died.
HDD's always spinup as soon as power is applied, ergo I think the drive died.
Ive tried it already in 2 different PC's and i have to apologize here for not mentioning that earlier in the topic.
The drive spins up perfectly in both of those PC's and ive checked for bad sectors on both of those PC's as well and it showed that the drive was 100% healthy on both PC's
The drive was working perfectly fine before the reinstallation of windows. Thats why i dont think the drive has died. Because it would be weird that the drive just suddenly gave up right when im reinstalling windows..
It also doesnt add up when i plug the powercable back into the drive while the PC is running and it spins up then and works perfectly until PC is shut down. Thats why i had it narrowed down to the BIOS and/or Motherboard being the culprit.
My best guess is that its software related because the PC does boot up so its not a hardware problem.
    P.S.
A friend of mine said that it could be a powersaving issue. But ive looked into the BIOS and i could not find anything about it.

  • 870A-G54 vs. 870A-G54 FX

    Hi,
I was wondering if an 870AG54 will support new bulldozers, and now I find that MSI is making such the same mainboard with the same bios, just with black cpu socket, calling it FX, that support new am3+ sockets, and asking 20-30EUR more for such thing..
Any chance to get AM3+ support for "usual" 870A-G54????

    great news!!
checked stores again, FX version cost approx the same as non-FX version, so hopefully its not just some marketing move, and MSI will support older MoBos with AM3+ bios's - we are waiting for am3+ support to curent AM3 boards MSI!!
at last, bulldozer(FX) CPUs from first reviews is flop so no bother at all att..
