870a gx54 problem with FX4100 CPU

Just built a pc for my son and it won't boot up - did the usual bits swapping out items for known working items and it boots fine with an AMD x4 process but is just dead with the FX4100 -don't have another am3+ system so can't check whether the CPU is dead or the board is not recognising the FX cpu.
Don't want to RMA the cpu if its just a board/cpu recognition issue. Do I need to flash the latest bios to the board? if so can I do it without windows installed ?
Any advice would be appreciated as its mean't to be a christmas present.

870A-G54 problems with bios, ram and CnQ

Hello i have some weird problems with my mobo. CnQ dont work i dont know why , in bios all options are turned not automaticly but forced to be "enable" ,and still my procesor multipler and voltages don't change , at the beginning after installing win7 64x it worked but now no :/.
2.next i have problems with memory i have corsair xms3 2x2gb [email protected] at old bios(AH0) my memory just did'nt want to work on 1.6k in dual channel and 1,2 slot i tried even to use default voltages tested by corsair (1.65V i had to use 1.66) result it dont work. after putting them into 3,4 slot it works even on 1.5V not 1.65V then i used to have them on 3,4 slot do u think that 1,2 slot is damaged ?.
3.Problems by bios. I updated my bios to the lastest version (from software downloaded from msi.com probably it had name "live update 5") , of course updated by usb stick .Then after update i see that my ram looks like reserved bios showing me that i have 2gigs of ram -.- (but only on 3,4 slot x.x) after change slots (1,2) it working and see my full ram (4gigs). Is that HD0 beta version of bios ? it looks like that .I don't see my logo screen it looks like that option was cut off from the bios , i don't see any "corporation" logo while booting the system.
I though that msi making solid motherboards as u can see i have many problems with this mobo.

Problem with running cpu at the rite speed!!

i just change my mb to KT3-Ultra a month ago( i had a asuu A7V266-E before) with amd Athlon 1700+ everything work fine and runs very smooth on my windows xp ...but! i just find out that my cpu is just running at 1.10 ghz. after i change the setting in bios to 1.53 ghz which i believe is the rite speed for athlon 1700+, i was unable the finish 3d mark2001 se testing and the xp become unstable ( had a radeon 7200 card, i could finish the testing in 1.10 ghz and only have 256 ddr ram rite now...low score)so....i was wondering why is this happening and what else can i do to run my system stable at 1.53 ghz.....btw i was running 1.53 ghz on my asus board.....thx alot!!

The normal speed for the 1700+ is 1.46 GHz, and that is also the speed you will get if you will set fsb to 133, instead of 100 (1.10 * 133). You will not arrive at 1.53 GHz.

Problem with CPU?? need help badly

Hey guys, its been a sad two days for me.. I have the MSI k7T266 PRO, and yesterday while i was moving tires into my apartment, one of them fell hard on the floor and my computer shifted, i opened the pc to find out that the CPU fan has shifted from the cpu, and the cpu smelled kind of burnt..
Anyway i had an ATHLON XP 2200 i think...
Anyway i went to compusa today and got a new CPU, an AMD 2400+ SEMPRON PROCESSOR. i installed it, put my huge heatsink,fan, and powered up.... NO SHOW..
The Diagnostic LED's show 4 RED lights,(which according to the manual means a problem with the CPU), it was showing 4 red lights with my old blown cpu and its still showing 4 red lights with the new cpu.. im getting frustrated..
Anyway i tried resetting the bios using the JBAT jumper, it still doesnt work..
I know the new CPU is good because i can tell a blown CPU..
So can anyone help me out??

Upgraded T500 with T9600 CPU - now overheating

I recently upgraded my T500 laptop from P8600 to T9600 CPU. Now I have a problem with the CPU overheating and the laptop shuts down after reaching critical temperature of 100 C. "Idle" (5-10%) temp is usually around 43-44 C.
I used the Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste and first I thought I may had applied too much of it (judging by online pics compared to how much I used). So I opened up again and I could see the previous paste actually had overflowed over the mirror area, so I cleaned it and re-applied with about half the amount. But if anything, it has only made it worse and now overheating even more often.
Both times I have waited the break-in period of over 200 hours, but it made no difference.
If I use cpuburn and burn both cores at 100% over several minutes, then the temp peaks and is stable at around only 80 C. The problem is during normal usage, where CPU fluctuates up and down near 95-100%, then it peaks at 96 C very quickly. So it makes me wonder if it may be a fan control problem?
Another thing I noticed, core 2 is always a lot cooler (15-20 C) than core 1, so if core 1 recorded max 96 C then core 2 usually recorded at 80 C max. Is this normal?

There are instances of this behavior in systems with bent, curved or unevenly pressured cooling surfaces. There is also the possibility of a faulty CPU. Lastly, the overheating problem might be a result of bad power management from the operating system, or again, bad application of thermal paste, too little pressure of the contact plate of the heatsink on the cpu, or a bent contact plate.
Since nedenom says he has been carefull with most of these aspects I think there are three possibilities left:
a) faulty cpu
b)Improper cleaning and application of thermal paste
c)problematic power management (which could explain overheating but not core's delta)
I would as a first step remove again the cooling system, clean all parts thourougly with isopropyl alcohol 99% and then apply only the smallest quantity (less than a grain of rice) of AS5 on the middle of the cpu before replacing the heatsink.

Problem with internal HD upgrade- Flashing "?" over HD icon on startup

Last weekend, I installed a Western Digital 250GB internal IDE 2.5 inch drive (WD2500BEVE) to replace the internal HD on my 15 inch G4 PB Aluminium (not sure of processor speed, but purchased new in 2004, with OSX 10.4.11). I backed up my existing HD to my friend's MacBook, as a disk image using Carbon Copy Cloner. I was very careful with the installation (using anti-static wristband etc etc). The installation appeared to go well. The newly installed internal HD could be mounted as an external HD of my friend's MacBook (using firewire Target Disk mode). Carbon Copy Cloner copied everything back to the new internal HD without any apparent problems.
BUT THEN... when I disconnected the firewire connection and tried to start my computer on its own, the dreaded 'flashing question mark over hard drive' icon appeared.
Can anyone suggest what the problem might be? Three things I've already excluded are:
(1) The jumper settings on the HD are correct.
(2) I formatted the new HD as Mac OS extended (journaled)
(3) The problem is not with the master boot sector (i.e. the problem is not merely that the computer can see the HD but does not know how to load the system from it). My computer cannot see the HD at all -- when I insert my operating system DVDs as if to reinstall the system, my internal HD does not even appear.
I am not panicking as I can still view the contents of my internal HD by booting it as an external HD of my friend's computer. But there seems to be a problem with my CPU communicating with my internal HD. The core of the mystery is: why can I boot my new internal HD off my friend's computer using FireWire, yet when I start my computer on its own using the operating system DVDs, the computer doesn't seem to recognise the HD whatsoever?
Does anyone have any suggestions?

Can we establish what model Powerbook you have? Take the battery out and look for the label.
I have a feeling that your PB cannot recognize the 250GB drive, although I was under the impression that the older PBs that could only recognize 128GB would simply ignore the extra disk space. Perhaps the ATA specs aren't all backward compatible, although the Firewire interface can handle it.
Other World Computing can obtusely point out which drives your model can handle, although I don't know it its 100% accurate.

MSI FX5600XT problems with agp 4x and other stuff

I just bought myself a MSI FX5600XT-TD128
I had a Hercules (guillemot) GEFORCE2 PRO (clock higher than GTS and slower than Ultra).
I'm not sure if my previous videocard (the gf2pro) would run stable @ 4x or run @ 4x at all.. I know my motherboard is capable of agp 4x, the old videocard I am not sure it was..
WEll, I bought the msi, plugged in and no post.
so I take the card out, put it back in, posted... 5mins later, crash..
No post..
So I put the old videocard in (gf2pro) and disable agp4x in the bios, plug the msi back in and running so far stable...
My motherboard is an IWILL KK266 (via kt133a).. very nice motherboard running on a not-so-compatible-with-it athlon xp 1600+ (1.4ghz)

K8t Neo2 problem with resume from standby after BIOS flash

Previously while using the 3.2 BIOS and a Winchester 3200+, Both Standby and hibernation worked perfectly almost without fail. Since I flashed the BIOS to 9.3 and installed an X2 4200+ I have had a problem with resume from standby. The machine starts up OK but the 2nd processor core (cpu1) is almost maxed out and stays that way. Task manager shows total cpu load as about 45-50% (all on cpu1) but shows no running process using any cpu load, just the usual System Idle process at about 99%. The only way to get it back down to normal again seems to be to reboot. By Contrast Hibernation works fine, with no increase in cpu load after resume. I have all the latest MS patch's installed (I think!) the AMD dual core driver and the MS and AMD dual core optimizers. Any ideas what is going on?

Noticed last night that S! standby seems to work OK. Also was experimenting with a fresh windows install on a spare hard drive (checking on another problem). The fresh windows install appeared to work with S4 hibernation, so it looks like that is the answer to that problem. However the problem with high cpu load on the second core after resume from S3 suspend to RAM standby was still present. This problem is so specific and so repeatable (it does it every time without fail), that I feel there must be some very well defined reason for it. Unfortunately I have no ideas what could be wrong. Have now tried Windows re-install, latest cpu drivers, AMD dual core optimizer, MS dual core optimizer, Cool'n'quite disabled/enabled, and various others and suspend to RAM still gives the same behaviour

Problem with power supply and motherboard

I got problem with the cpu.this is the 2nd time my cpu cannot on. It keeps on off. It look likes there is no enough power supply.Last time the cpu also keep restart n there was also problem with the speaker. The HP technician has changed the motherboard.got frustated coz im in high expection on the HP Products. The model itself has problem or only my cpu got problem? Really hope the HP can replace d new one to me rather than the cpu always get problems n stuck my work for 3 to 5 days just to wait the technician comes to solve the problem...Now i have to wait till monday...

Problem with memory usage and CPU usage

Hello,
i have a problem with the memory usage and cpu usage in my project!
My application must run for more than 24 hrs. The problem is that the longer it runs the bigger is the memory and cpu usage!
It starts with ~15% CPU usage and ~70 MBytes memory usage. After ~ 24hrs the CPU usage is ~60% and the memory usage is ~170 MBytes!
After 3 days the CPU usage is almost about 70% and the memory usage is about 360 MBytes!
What can I do to reduce this huge recource usage?

   I think the issue is memory usage, since CPU usage can increase due to greater memory requirements.
   Anyway, it's difficult to debug without seeing your code, can you post it (possibly for LV 7.1 compatibility)? Or just post a JPEG of the piece of code that can give problems...
   I guess you're appending data to an array instead of replace data elements, but I can't be sure...

Problem with CPU Voltage

I build new PC with:
i5-760
Noctua NH-D14
MSI P55-GD65
G.Skill 2x2GB CL7 ECO
Antec TruePower New 750W TP-750
TwinTech GF 9600GT
I have problem with CPU voltage as even when I set it for example to 1.201v in bios, under load it overshot to 1.256-1268. The best is when I oc`ed cpu to 4GHZ and set voltage in bios for 1.30v it overshot for 1.45v+! Not to mention that temps are skyhigh from that. It doesn`t matter if I try to put BIOS Vcore on 1.1v on stock because under load it still rise to 1.16. I turned off all eist, c-state, turbo boost, phase led and switch phase, set vdrop to low and still something is wrong here. I updated the bios under dos from USB stick to newest 1.9 version in order to update CPU micro code without error and it not helped. I want to know is that even possible to fix or should I RMA MB or CPU.
Minor problem is with sysfans as they power on for a second and turn off instantly to start working again when I see list on devices in post. After rebot when my monitor is switched off it takes something like 5 sec to power monitor on and another 5 to show bios, is that normal?

I have similar issues, it's hard to tell which measurement is the most accurate, there are 2 different measurements in the control center that don't match up with the figures set in the bios. The only way to be sure would be to get an expensive accurate multimeter but If you're only interested in running a stable overclocked computer without knowing the exact figures then get the computer running stable and lower the voltages until it starts to become unstable with prime95,
Or you could work the other way round, set the voltages so it boots but doesn't run prime95 for long, then raise the vcore and vtt one at a time until your happy with the length of time prime95 runs without errors. I'd be happy with 24 hours, I seem to remember errors creeping in at around the 9 hour mark on the setting below what I have it set to now.
