870S-G46 motherboard RAM issue???

Im building a new pc. Using this motherboard, 4gb g.skill ripjaws 1600 RAM (2 X 2gb), a galaxy 8400 GS GPU, an AMD Phenom II x4 965 black edition deneb processor, a Corsair GS600 600w PSU, and Ubuntu 10.04.2 LTS. With both sticks of RAM in, the system turns on, but there is no hardware support, and it doesnt POST, doesnt beep either... I tried using one stick of RAM, and it boots up, loads everything, and i can use it perfectly. i know both sticks of RAM work, ive tested each of them. I read on another thread on here that it could be a BIOS issue, and if it is, which version of BIOS should i use?
Any and all help will be greatly appreciated!!
TL;DR Homebuilt pc, wont POST with two sticks of ram, will with one. WAT DO??

BIOS V17.6
only one stick will run, and its running @ 9-9-9-24
they are placed in the proper dimm slots
i cant tell if they both work at the same time in the system, it doesnt boot, just turns on, no video either...
i know both work though, i have tested each of them individually

  • MSI 870S-G46 8GB Ram Installed/Detected 4GB Usable W7U-x64

    Hey folks,
So I have a rather iritating issue. I just upgraded to a MSI 870S-G46 and I have been having issues with my ram. I have 2 4GB DDR3 "1600mhz" sticks made by Kingston.
I AM running Windows 7 x64, infact I have done a clean install periodically through testing on my secondary drive. Same results. A pic just to make the point. (Alt+printscreen ftw!)
The bios has been updated to latest. Via usb. Set to optimum and poked with too. (Don't see any force remap switch... so I assume this board is supposed to always do remapping...)
I have tried both reseating(XD Been seated a good 4 times now in all for an identical result)...
AND another cpu(even reseated said other cpu once). No change.
Even tried with the stock heatsink that isn't as firm on as mine clamps down.
... And a fresh install several times throughout this process on aforementioned secondary drive.
Both ram sticks are good, have tried both individually in slot 1, and both combinations of slot 1 and 2. (This board has slot 1/2 and 3/4 paired with same color.)
    @.@... ... ... Elp?

this recently happened to me, i updated my bios because i kept getting IRQL errors. the errors have stopped but now i have only 4gb usable from 8gb. (g.skill 1600 ram) slot 1 and slot 2.
when i put in slot 1 and slot 4 it read all 8gb but its very unstable. the IRQL happens 5 minutes in and boot takes a long time (other BSOD too). i tried lowering the speed but still no good.
im on bios version h.C0, updated thru live update.

  • Motherboard/ram issues

    hey everybody
here's what i got and here's the problem
just bought a winchester amd athlon 64 3500+ socket 939 cpu
    and MSI k8T Neo2 board
now . i have had 2 PC2700 512 MB generic ram sticks from before
everything works fine except that the ram is detected only as 512MB in windows XP
so... i tried to test the ram by removing each one .. tricky thing is .. now it desplayed 256 megs of ram.. so its reading the sticks at half.  there are 2 banks in eachs slots
2 green 2 purple... i have both sticks in the green slots.. i figured if i put one in the purple slot, it will read the whole ramstick... but it wont boot AT all when anything is in the purple slots.
this however, is a common problem i guess, has to do with motherboard bios or something.. so next thing on the list ... we have to re-flash MOBO
i dont know why, but my computer isnt reading the disk drive.. tried 2 different floppy drives .. and nothing works .. so i thought id make a CDrom boot disk with Nero.. i put floppy emulation, as that is the only way i can seem to get it to boot from cdrom..
everything was fine.. however .. when i tried to flash ...  by typing in exactly what they said .. like "flashutil ( i have AMI bios)  " it would give me a list of options but id be back at the dosprompt .. if i tried to  type in the flashutil romname /option .. same thing .. would display the options in a /? dos manner but no flashing of rom
i was thinking about doing liveupdate and do a windows Flash..but i read somewhere that thats not a good thing because it might mess up the flash completely...
any ideas on why the ram wouldnt be read correctly ?  or how to flash the bios ?
    thanks for any input

    Hi
The live update DOS flash is OK, you make a floppy, with the bios on it, along with alll the other files needed. Disable the boot virus protection in bios, reboot with floppy in A:> it then loads freedos, you get a couple of prompts, then it erases bios and reloads new one ( that bit takes about 10 secs), make sure power supply is OK, and nothing is going to interupt the PC.
There is a utility in program files - MSI - Utilities, which is the flash prog, it will ask where the bios is,and then flash it. AGAIN make sure boot virus protection is disabled.
Your using the Neo2, so I am not sure if MEM has been updated in bios, but likely to have been.
    cheers

Getting bad vibes about that PSU....I would say try one with >30A @ 12V single line and see what happens.
At HardOCP tests it blew at 300W
    http://www.hardocp.com/article/2008/05/13/getting_best_buy_on_power_supply/3
Put something serious in there, it probably solves all, like a Corsair CX400 cheap and powerfull.
    Just bought this:

I put all of the RAM in, and it didn't crash this time, nor did it say overclocking. But it still looks like its only reading one of the RAM slots. Oddly enough, the computer feels faster than it was before, it just doesn't say that that there is any increase in RAM. maybe just wishful thinking.....

  • USB Drivers Issue (970A-G46 Motherboard)

I am having an issue with my wireless adapter "malfunctioning" during high bandwidth usages. My wife is running the same adapter with another motherboard without issue. She has also tried my adapter without issue. I have noticed that this seems to be tied to one of my "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controllers" in the device manager. As if I disable this particular one, my wireless will stay connected (at a severely reduced speed). If it is is enabled, after a while I will see the following message appear in my event log: "A timeout occurred while waiting for the EHCI host controller Interrupt on Async Advance Doorbell response." Once this appears, I must reboot my computer or uninstall/reinstall this "Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controllers" to get it to function again. It will work for a while but after about 500 MB - 3 GB downloads, it disconnects again and I must repeat. This seems like a driver issue to me but the only Windows 8 drivers available on the website are for the audio and network. Are there any other drivers that may be available or any work arounds for this issue?

I should also note that the wireless adapter driver has been upgraded and this issue did not occur on Windows 7 x64. As noted earlier, my wife is running Windows 8 x64 (same as me) without issue.

  • High pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor

I am getting high pitch hissing sound from 970A-G46 motherboard with AMD FX 8 core processor.
Sound is coming from some place near CPU area.
I tried changing Core C 6 State in BIOS from Enabled to Disabled to fix this issue.
    I also followed steps in following link, w w w . tomshardware.com/forum/292915-30-high-pitched-noise-coming-area
    No luck with above changes.
I heard this is a common problem with MSI motherboards. Is there any fix for this issue.

Quote from: flobelix on 12-January-13, 18:49:48
That is surely no typical problem of MSI mainboards. In fact that is very rare if it is the board.
Tke the board out of case on a non conductive surface with nothing else connected but but mainboard, ram, psu, cpu and vga. Try it again after clearing CMOS (>>Clear CMOS Guide<<)
If you are then 100% sure that it is the board this could be a defect as MSI mainbaords normally don't cause coil whine and I haven't heard that about 970A-G46 so far
I tried clearing CMOS by replacing jumper and loading factory defaults. Still high pitch sound is coming intermittently. As my 30 day period is over with Frys Electronics, How easy to get a replacement board from MSI. Does anyone know the steps?

  • RAM ISSUES A215-S7407 - PSAFGU-01V002 SUSPEND MODE ERROR WITH 4GB RAM

Hi, im having some troubles with my laptop.
Because it comes only winth 1GB RAM (512MB x 2) i decided to give it an upgrade to 4GB (Max Capcity) according to specifications details on the support site. So i bought two (2) DIMM Modules KINGSTON 2GB 667MHZ, exact model # KVR667D2S5/2G Everything was working fine until i close the lid and it suspend.
Normally, when i open the lid, it will wake up, and everything will work fine, BUT NOW when it wakes up i have distorted sound and horizontal lines on screen, and sometimes i get a BSOD (BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH) and it restart itself.
    TEST THAT I MADE:
ONLY 1 DIMM of 2GB  - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY (I tested both Dimms 2GB separately)
    1 DIMM 2GB / 1 DIMM 1GB (TOTAL 3GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP NORMALLY
2 DIMMs 2GB  (TOTAL 4GB) - IT SUSPEND AND WAKES UP WITH DISTORTED SOUND AND HORIZONTAL LINES ON DISPLAY.
It seems like the problem appears only with Max. Capacity (4GB) RAM and only when it suspend CLOSE THE LID (POWER LED CHANGE COLOR BLUE TO ORANGE AND FADES AND COMES).
With Hibernation, it works fine, the problem is when it suspend.
It looks that the problem is on the motherboard, maybe a NEW BIOS RELEASE that fix the situation.
I appreciate if somebody can speak to TOSHIBA SUPPORT DEVELOPER and ask them for an BIOS Update.
i know that im not the only one with this problem, there is another person that wrote a post "RAM ISSUES" and refers to the same situation, but as i guess, it wasn't solved at all.

Make sure you install the memory when the light is not flashing, i.e. completly off not sleeping.

  • 870S-G54 motherboard, not using raid, do I need ATI SB7xx/SB8xx RAID Driver

I have a 870S-G54 motherboard and I am not using raid.  Do I need the "ATI SB7xx/SB8xx RAID Driver" from http://www.msi.com/product/mb/870S-G54.html#/?div=Driver&os=All ?
I assumed that driver did not apply at all if I'm not using raid and I haven't installed it, but since the description includes "On-Board PIDE/SATA Drivers" and I'm trying to track down a corrupted file copy issue, I just wanted to double-check that I'm not missing something necessary by accident.  Thanks!

If your not using raid, Than no you dont need the raid drivers.

  • Need help ASAP: ram issues for neo4 plat

I just bought a new case, motherboard, ram, video card, power supply, and CPU. i took my drives from my old Dell and placed them into this case and the MSI neo4 plat. motherboard (specs in my sig). i just want my comp to work but it doesn't want to. it powers up and does nothing. you just hear fans going. the LED on the D-bracket says that its a ram issue. the ram worked fine last night and i had a video card problem it said. any ideas or am i just completely screwed? i use my computer a lot and need to do some things before i leave for a wedding on the 15th with my family and won't be back til the 25th. i'd like to resolve any issues before i leave so i can relax about it when i get back. i spent all of my money on this and i dont' want it wasted cause i messed it all up and even my parents helped pay for the part i couldn't pay as a birthday present. i'm annoyed, impatient, and probably acting childish over what probably is a stupid petty thing.
    thanks,

OK, well the first improvement is there
Sometimes it will help to remove a component and then put it back in the same position, make sure it is fully inserted in the slot. This goes for both the video card and the memory.
    1. you can clear cmos (see in your manual)
    2. reseat videocard
    3. try the other ram module, try different slots
ah you see i did all that already, and it did nothing :P
would you by any chance want to help me on MSN?
this is my second computer assembly. i'm very fluent with comps which is why this is driving my crazy:P
also the heatsink and everything is fine. i'm always the guy that has the weirdest problem thats hard to solve. i should be a professional software tester or something... just don't know how to get there. i'm more of a musician anyway...

  • RAM Issues: 4GB installed, 1GB showing After blinking light

    Hey Folks,
After doing some research online I found that my recent issue, which has come up in the past, was probably a RAM seating issue. The issue where the Fan begins running loudly at hyper speed. I forced a shut down, restarted up and saw no issue. Shortly there after the issue returned. I forced a shut down once more, but this time was met with a blinking power light.
I remembered from past experience that it was a sign of RAM issues so I unplugged, unseated and reseated all four of the RAM on my cards. Initial start up was met with same response. In fact it wasn't until the 6th or 7th seating and reseating, and RAM position switch that I got the computer to start back up. (The initial successful start up was with one card and what should have been 2GB.)  I checked the About this Mac.. and saw Memory listed as 1GB 667  MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM. The 1GB threw me off because at that moment there should have been 2.
Shortly there after I backed some things up and tried reseating the other card with the other 2 gigs in it. This time I was able to start up however the System still shows the Memory as 1GB 667 MHz...
I did notice a single red light on one of the cards and am curious if this is trying to tell me anything, or if this is an indication of a poor installation. Also looking for any advice on why the computer is not seeing all 4 gigs, and if some of them may be out of service.
Any advice would be much appreciated, and please pardon my lingo because I'm not sure all my wording is correct.
    Thanks

    Failed RAM.
Stop beating yourself up over insertion technique. These things get mighty hot and they FAIL.
If they have a reseller's sticker on them, like Otherworld computing or 1-800-Memory or such, call them and ask for lifetime warranty replacements. Otherwise, think hard about how much RAM you really need and go buy some.

  • RAM issues continued

    Hey everyone!
I was just reading an archived post from around this time last year entitled "Strange RAM issue." I too have had a strange RAM issue and specifically with my G4 PowerBook (15", 1GHz) and OWC. I also wanted to upgrade from 512 to 1GB and could never get the machine to work at 1GB. I am currently in the process of sending back my third consecutive OWC brand RAM to them and they are finally going to send me some TechWorks memory that I'm hoping will work. I just can't believe...every single set of memory they've sent me has tested out "fine" to them either after I sent it back or in the latest case even before they sent it to me. But it never works in my computer and always fails the Rember test.
Their latest take on it is that the Rember test isn't always reliable and that it's probably a problem with the memory port in the computer in that it won't accept outside (aka non-Apple) memory. What are some people's thoughts on this? Is it possible that the memory port could work just fine with the original computer's RAM and not with new RAM? Is there any truth to Rember not being all that reliable of a test? (If so, why would they have you use it?)
I'm really getting frustrated with OWC and I was wondering if that's just me or have other people had this same problem?

APPLE HAS A RECALL for this! READ BELOW AND SAVE SOME MONEY!!!!
Anyone with these issues needs to see this link. Apple has a recall going for G4 15" AL PBs because one of the two RAM slots die. Mine has been "fixed" twice under this program. There's a number to call to get started. Be forewarned, the person on the end of that phone is not the sharpest tool in the tool box. I had to show him where the recall was on Apple's site and how to interpret it. He had to keep putting me on hold to check with a Powerbook Expert (his title was only Powerbook Specialist). They send you a nice prepaid DHL 24 hr turn around shipping box. First time was great. Second time it came back covered in sticky. greasy fingerprints and the metal around the case screws has been badly scratched. I'm still waiting for Apple to address this but since they found 3rd party RAM in my PB, this is my punishment. FWIW, if you let it go in the broken state too long, bad things could happen. Something from the corrupted RAM wrote to my HD and ended up causing all sorts of issues. A reformat and reinstall was the only cure. Here's the link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303173
A few private repair places on the web get over a grand for this repair. The repair is a complete new main logic board exchange. Big bucks.

I have just purchased an iMac 27" 2.7GHZ running OSX 10.7.4 with 4GB RAM (16 GB has been ordered). I am using Aperture 3.3.2. When I attempt to create a web page from photos the page goes white and nothing displays. Is this a RAM issue?

I have resolved the issue....turns out that, in my case, running OSX 10.8.1 with Aperture 3.3.2 was what was required! I was running Aperture 3.3.2 with OSX 10.7.x and had this issue.
I hope this helps someone else as well.

  • X-Fi Xtreme Audio & 4GB RAM issue - latest driver?

    :X-Fi Xtreme Audio & >4GB RAM issue - latest driver?T Hi All,
Been using an X-Fi Xtreme Audio with 4GB RAM for ages, no issues.
I purchased and installed a zotac 9600 GT which has GB onboard ram, which works fine, but now my X-Fi has started causing general system instability. (processes using heaps of CPU time whilst apparently doing not much, jerky/slow adobe flash, distorted (slow-motion) audio at random times, etc etc.
In the support section here it says:
Audio issue from output from soundcard with computer having 4GB RAM:
    <span class="text">
Keywords: <font>4GB ram, installation, xfi, x-fi
Summary: Customers with computers having <font>4GB or above of RAM and are experiencing audio issues, please download the latest driver for your sound card.
However... When this issue first came up I formatted my primary dri've, reinstalled the OS and downloaded the latest drivers for EVERYTHING. The problem has prevailed..
It was only yesterday that I tracked down this problem in the support section here, and tried to verify that my driver is indeed the latest. But device manager lists the driver as "6.0.0.209" when in the support section here the downloads are named ".xx.xxxx" or something. How can I confirm that I have the latest driver? In any case, I'm almost certain that I have the latest, and this issue is still occuring.
I have read in other forums that on other varients of my X-FI card, the latest drivers have not solved this problem either.. sorry I cant be more accurate than that.
For now, I have solved this problem by simply removing 2GB of ram from my PC. Obviously, I'd like to find a solution and put the other 2GB back in!
Thanks in advance for your help!

Could DanielK please mod this as well, so we can try them. Or Daniel, you could you please tell me how you modified the previous drivers from auzentech as I dont know how these CL drivers work and are modified. What is the inf in these drivers, and if you could tell me the deviceID?s of all the x-fi models, or atleast for x-fi xtreme music as it is my modell. Thx in advance!
    EDIT:
I have modified the drivers, was not so hard after all. Im uploading the file now, which should have support for all X-FI cards thanks to Daniel's great job with the earlier version.
Upload finished in 4-5minutes. I will post with link soon to rapidshare!

    Hey Daniel,
First it would be helpful to know exactly which iBooks you're talking about.
CPU speed, screen size, OS and RAM installed.
So how do you know the all three have onboard RAM issues? Does system profiler just show the 0 slot as empty?

  • V11 firmware RAM issues...what worked for me

I think everyone that has upgraded to the v11 firmware has by now noticed the RAM issues in the v11 firmware for the N95 (At least in the European generic firmware).
The cause of this problem appears to be the 23 or so programs the firmware installs into the phone memory that are all related to the "Search" application on the phone.
I uninstalled them all and the RAM problems went away.
To get rid of them go to Tools > Application Manager and uninstall everything you see related to search.
While I was at it I got rid of Snakes, the System Rush game and the settings and welcome wizards.
Note that this will remove the Search application from your phone entirely so do so at your own risk.
An alternative is to move it to your memory card if you wish.
Useful links: Phone firmware update | Nokia support site

The problem you are having is a DNS issue.
Somewhere along the line your DNS address(s) became deleted from the network System Preferences for your 'active' connection (e.g Airport). It probably was set to default to your local (home) router.
This basically means that safari can not find the web site you attempt to load, so it waits for a very long time.
You can add in the DNS address(s) by either going to System Preferences / Network and selecting your active network connection / DNS tab. OR you can go to Safari Preferences / Advanced and then click the "advanced" button which will take you to the System preferences panel.
The DNS server is provided by your ISP in most cases, or you can use the "Open DNS" servers at 208.67.222.222, & 208.67.220.220.
