875 hard drives to ide 3

Ok bought this board yesterday the neo 875, i an trying to get two ata hard drives onto ide 3 i dont want a raid array on them all i want is master and slave i have tried
all sorts of configurements in the bios, have i installed the wrong drivers in the build, if so can i change them, without a rebuild.I cant get the system to boot into windows when one or both hard drives are connected to ide 3 ;(

If you get that error make sure PCI BUS MASTERING is DISABLED.  Also you may need to force the drive to an old legacy mode like PIO-Mode 4 or something to that effect in the Integrated Peripherals - Hard Drive Controller Config menu.

  • Itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?

ive recently updated, itunes and all my movies have disappeared,i can no longer add to library from my external hdd which ive always used and can only add from the laptops own hard drive, any ideas what the issue could be?if i transfer the movies from the external to the laptop they will add to the library without any problem so theres no issue with the laptop but when i go to add file in itunes i can path to the external but as soon as i select the file nothing happens, just goes back to itunes

This happens if the file is no longer where iTunes expects to find it. Possible causes are that you or some third party tool has moved, renamed or deleted the file, or that the drive it lives on has had a change of drive letter. It is also possible that iTunes has changed from expecting the files to be in the pre-iTunes 9 layout to post-iTunes 9 layout,or vice-versa, and so is looking in slightly the wrong place.
Select a track with an exclamation mark, use Ctrl-I to get info, then cancel when asked to try to locate the track. Look on the summary tab for the location that iTunes thinks the file should be. Now take a look around your hard drive(s). Hopefully you can locate the track in question. If a section of your library has simply been moved, or a drive letter has changed, it should be possible to reverse the actions.
Alternatively, as long as you can find a location holding the missing files, then you should be able to use my FindTracks script to reconnect them to iTunes .

If the Mac came w/system DVDs, you will need to obtain them prior to selling.
You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.
If you're not in the US, you may need to go through the regional Apple Store that serves your location to find the contact number. Here's a list of links to all of those - http://store.apple.com/Catalog/US/Images/intlstoreroutingpage.html Another resource:  International Support Phone #s.

  • Beige G3 Hard Drive Slave IDE cable problem

I have an old beige G3 and have a 20GB Western Digital hard drive I’ve initialized and want to add as a slave. The problem is that while I have the required extra power out for the third 5.25” bay, there’s nowhere for me to connect into the IDE cable. The cable seems to be 1 female connector short. Is this something that was stock? I can deinstall the ZIP drive installed in the third bay, but I’d rather keep the whole thing intact if I can.
Am I going to have to add an IDE/SCSI PCI card? If so, do you have any recommendations? How would adding a card affect the existing SCSI chain? Also, is this sort of a change going to have any negative effects on the power supply, and is an addition like a slave HD recommended for an old beige from this point of view?
    Beige G3   Mac OS 9.2.x   400Mhz, Radeon 7000
    Beige G3 Server   Mac OS 9.2.x   400Mhz, Radeon 7000

"Am I going to have to add an IDE/SCSI PCI card? If so, do you have any recommendations? How would adding a card affect the existing SCSI chain?"
Your G3 natively supports IDE/ATA/ATAPI devices, having two ATA channels to do so. There is also an onboard SCSI-1 bus (max. 5 MB/sec), for connection of external/internal SCSI devices. Your profile info indicates the G3 Server, so you'd likely have an Ultra-SCSI PCI card and hard drive, if the hard drive is a SCSI device. The CD-ROM and Zip drives undoubtedly share one of the ATA channels. If that's the case, you still have an extra ATA channel for connection of extra IDE/ATAPI drives. What does the Apple System Profiler ("Devices and Volumes") indicate about the type(s) of installed drives? If your existing hard drive is connected to one of the ATA channels, you can configure dual drives as master/slave on that channel, provided that your G3 has a ROM revision $77D.45F1 or $77D.45F2
Assuming that you have the mini-tower model, the lone IDE hard drive in the top of the chassis usually has the single device OEM ribbon cable attached to it. If you want to connect a second drive as slave on the same ATA channel, you'll need a 24" (no longer) ribbon cable with connectors for both drives. The 24" cable has adequate separation between the drive connectors, enabling connection to each. Several years ago, I bought four of these ribbon cables (40-conductor, 24") from Radio Shack, but I don't even know if they still carry that item in their stores today. A PC store should have them. You can't use the newer 80-conductor Ultra-ATA ribbon cables, because they're typically only 18" long, and that's not long enough. Cables longer than 24" are prone to causing data corruption, so avoid them. For ease of connection, you may have to move the CD-ROM and Zip drives down one bay each, and install the slave hard drive in the bay formerly occupied by the CD-ROM drive.

  • Third Party Hard Drive -- Good Idea?

My iMac hard drive failed. The computer is still under warranty but where I live it will take a month to replace the hard drive. I would find it difficult to go this long without my computer. The service person I spoke with said the only other solution would be to buy my own hard drive and have it installed. Would this be too great a risk of really screwing up my computer?

Apple does not make their own hard drives but purchases them from the various manufacturers such as Western Digital, Seagate and others. You can use any drive you wish as long as it is a compatible type. Even when Apple replaces a drive under warranty they don't always use the same brand as the one that came with it originally. Just make sure you buy it from a reputable source and that the specs match what you have now.

  • June-July 2013 Video Editing Hard Drive Configuration - ideas welcome!

    Greetings Adobe Community,
I am a new member and this is my first question. I appreciate any knowledgable and experienced advice for my Hard Drive Setup.
    My new system:
    CPU: Intel i7 3930k
    MOBO: Asus P9X79 DELUXE
CPU Cooler: CM TPC 812 (Starting with Air cooling, hestitant to use liquid for now)
RAM: 64GB Corsair Vengeance (1600MHz) (8GB ea. obviously)
GPU: GTX 650 Ti Boost  (went slim here with plan to sell & upgrade as needed or suggested)
    Case/Tower: CM Storm Stryker
PSU: Seasonic 80+ Platinum  860W (currently overkill)
OS: WIndows 7 Pro (with option to  upgrade to 8)
Optical Drives: Pioneer BD writer & LG DVD writer (excited about and anticipating a commercial version of new Petabyte optical technology
    --> http://www.extremetech.com/computing/159245-new-optical-laser-can-increase-dvd-storage-up- to-one-petabyte
Now, I am open to any suggestions that might be a bottleneck above, but my main question is about my my Hard Drive Configuration:
I have the following hard drives:
    2 x Samsung 840 Pro 256GB SSD
    2 x 1TB WD Caviar Black HDD (7200RPM)
    2 x 3TB Seagate Barracuda HDD (7200RPM)
I am looking for the best speed, performance and usage of these drives for cs6 Master Collection, with special consideration given to Premiere Pro, AE, and Photoshop.
(FYI: I will be backing up all important files to an external HHD and burning final projects to BD)
My plan inspired by suggestions on AF and elsewhere:
    1.) C: 1 x Samsung SSD: OS & Programs
    2.) D: 1 x Samsung SSD: Media Cache & Previews
3.) E: 1 x Seagate 3TB HDD for Exports (Should I buy another and raid it?)
    4.) F: 2 x WD 1TBs in Raid 0 for Projects
5.) G: 1 x Seagate 3TB HHD for Media (should I add buy another and raid it?)
6.)))<BONUS Drive> I am planning on running some tests to see how much max RAM I can use, and whatever is not being used, I am hoping to hear some positive feedback on making a RAMdisk or a couple of them.   (I have seen unbelievable benchmarks for them.)  If it is recommended, could I use a RAMdisk for {2.- Media Cache & Preview} or should I just use it for Pagefiles and other Caches and temporary files? (or forgo it altogether?)
I know this is a loaded question, and I am open to other suggestions that might include buying ~$300 in additional drives if it will increase speed and performance tremendously.
Thank you all for reading & I am really looking foward to learning from your knowledge and experience in this area!

    Mike,
Check. SATA 6G port. Add a static pagefile of 1 or 2 GB here.
    Check. SATA 6G port.
Check. SATA 3G port. No sense in raiding this and doubling the risk of data loss. Even a 25 GB export will only need ± 3 minutes or less to write. The time for export is spent on encoding, not on writing. Why take the risk and spend the money for a potential 80 - 90 second gain on each export of 25 GB? How often do you do that?
Check. SATA 6G ports on Marvell. Make regular backups of your projects.
Check. SATA 3G port. I would be very hesitant to raid0 the original media because of the risk of data loss. The X79 platform is designed for dedicated raid controllers and parity raids. If you need more speed, go that route.
Forget about it. It is not practical. Windows does not allow booting without a pagefile, so it will always create a dynamic pagefile on C: if it does not find it. With 64 GB memory the pagefile will hardly be used if at all. A static pagefile of 1 GB is enough. Everytime you turn off your machine, the RAM disk gets erased and upon booting must be newly created. That means that the media cache must be newly created, indexing, conforming and creation of peakfiles must be done every time you open a project. That time lost far outweighs the potential gain of a faster RAM disk.

  • IDE ATA100 Hard drive and current and past compatability

I have gone through 3 hard drives now, trying to install Arch Linux.
I tried twice during .7, and after install I was unable to boot.
I tried once during the "Dont Panic" version, and it booted fine, but I got a kernel panic. I unfortunatly chose to try the IDE-Legacy boot option, as I saw it helped one person with my problem. I should've tried what was suggested by the developers first.
My question is that, all of these hard drives are IDE ATA100, Western Digital. The first one was 40GB, the rest were 80GB, during .7, did Arch Linux use IDELegacy as the default boot option, and has anyone ever had any problems with this?
I honestly don't know if my hard drives are obtainable through formatting them as a slave, as I lost the first hard drive, I physically beat the second hard drive, and I lost the jump to the third hard drive.

I'm not quite sure from your post if you have a working hard drive now or not, but if you have, I'd suggest you try the install again, and if you still have problems, post here with a complete description of what is (and is not) happening. "I was unable to boot" and "I got a kernel panic" are the result of earlier errors, so you would need to include the relevant error messages exactly as they appear on screen.

  • Partitioning a single hard drive?

Before anybody gives me a hard time about asking a repetitive question about partitioning let me explain. I know their are several threads on the forum that say this or that about partitioning but I would like to know some definite opinions. I've just got one Western digital 300gb hard drive on ide 1 (maybe I'll add another hard drive later) with windows XP loaded as the operating system.
1.Do you guys think it is good idea to partition this hard drive?
         2. When would you partition?
         3. How would you seperate the partitions for example would you make a 10 gig partition for the hard drive, etc.
         4. What are the advantages of partitioning?
    Thanks for any feedback.

:Don't worry! I will never hammer someone for asking a question .First of all, Yes I think you should PARTITION a HDD that is as BIG as yours!!. But keep in mind the BEST time to do it is BEFORE OS installation. That does not mean that it is BAD to do it after with a 3'RD party program ie. PARTITION MAGIC..ect... How big,and how many partitions is totally up to you,(as long as you are within space paramaters)..I myself would CUT that size drive into at least 2 150GB partitions. But it also depends on what you are going to put on it ...You can have 100GB for the WIFE, 100GB for PICS or DVDS, AND 50GB for the OS and the rest for GAMES!!! This is what you have to decide....Sean REILLY875

  • How to install Solaris 10 with Win XP on 2nd Hard Drive

    hi everyone,
I'm totally new to Solaris. As an enthusiast, I wants to install Solaris 10 on my Win XP PC's 2nd Hard Drive(40GB, empty) from Solaris 10 DVD.
I need help from how to format 2nd Hard Drive to how can I configure the PC so it asks me which OS to load every time.
I will highly appreciate everyone's help as I've just joined SDN. Many Thanx in advance, Jags

Happened upon this post while searching for an answer to something else and figured I would give my 2 cents on what you are trying to do so as to offer you some other ideas, as in stuff I have done personally in similar situations, just in case the other suggestions don't work out (and to avoid repartitioning your main hdd if it is your ONLY computer with an OS you have available).
Assuming you have a standard tower or mid-tower with at least 1 free 5 1/4" bay open, and if your motherboard doesn't support booting from a slave drive, and if you prefer a hardware solution so your OS installs are isolated from each other to be certain no corruption happens, like I personally do*. Then you may consider a pair of key lock internal hard drive racks (newegg search "hard drive rack ide" or sata). You would need at least 1 free 5 1/4" bay for the rack mount, then place the hard drives in their housings, each set as master, and you can stick in which ever OS drive you want, turn the key, then boot up (I recommend storing drives not in use in some large anti-static bags for protection). If you have 2 open slots, like I did on my tower, then you can connect both to the same cable and leave both in at all times. Just make sure ONLY 1 drive is keyed "on" at a time, or else you will get errors due to duplicate masters set. Also make sure you ONLY turn the keys when the system is OFF, the racks do NOT make the drives hot-swappable, it is only to offer an easier solution for using multiple hard drives on one PC so you don't have to open the case all the time and potentially damage the pins or the drives when switching them out.. Also you may need longer cables depending on the motherboard controller placement and the size of your tower, 80 wire 40pin if you are dealing with IDE (when you get longer I've noticed less 80 wire and more slower 40 wire cables). As always when dealing with the actual hardware, be extra careful, make sure power is off and PC is unplugged, touch the PC power supply if you don't have better solutions such as anti-static mat/wrist band, etc. You probably know all of this, but just making sure.
*I lost a lot of data one of the first times I tried an open source OS many years ago (some Linux distro, I forget which), I tried to repartition my windows 98 drive, it worked fine for about a week booting between the two, then most my personal windows files suddenly were random sizes and random folders ended up full of garbage files with garbage file names among other peculiar things.. If I partition a drive I generally only do it BEFORE I put data on it or install OS's.. or at least make CERTAIN that I have adequate methods for restoring my OS and personal files (such as imaging my OS install to a larger drive temporarily, etc)..
Anyway, was just offering some possible alternatives to repartitioning your main OS drive.. -TCP

I have checked my jumpers on the hard drive etc all set correct.
I have also swaped the hard drives round (the 80Gb as the sytem) but I get the same.

  • Hard drive setup on raid with XP

Ok, My motherboard is the kt3 ultra aru. I have just added a third hard drive onto ide # 3. Raid is set to on in the bios. The machine dual boots with win98 and xp.
Everything is working fine with win98 and the drive shows up and has a drive letter assigned.
In xp, when it comes to new hardware found and it asks for the raid driver it also says it needs a file from online and when I connect it pauses for a while then continues to ask for the driver, which it installs from the floppy.
I then get the message that the installation has failed and the drive doesnt show up.
Device manager shows a yellow question mark.
    Anyone had this happen ??
    Any ideas ?
    cheers bluedog

Yes I have read that post and understand it.
As I said, the installation into win 98 went without a hitch. But the problem arises when trying to install the promise driver for win xp and it asks to go to the windows update.microsoft.com and get a file.
I have tried to find an updated promise driver with no joy, they dont list one on the promise site.

  • Downloading old hard drive from crashed computer

Is there a ESATA connection on my HP Envy 20. I'm trying to download the hard drive from my old computer. I removed the hard drive and purchased a BlacX Hard Drive ESATA Docking Station. If this isn't the correct way to download it, what do i need to use?

When requesting assistance, lease provide the complete HP model name and/or product number of the computer in question.
Most likely your computer doesn't have an eSATA port but should have USB 2.0 and/or 3.0 ports. If the "Thermaltake BlacX eSATA Docking Station" has a USB port in addition to the mentioned eSATA port and your old hard drive is a 2.5" or 3.5" SATA hard drive, then you will be able to use the docking station. If it doesn't have a USB port or your hard drive is IDE/PATA, then you will need a diffferent external device.
