  • K8T Neo Bios advice needed

Please forgive this large post and I hope this is the right place for this.
Below is a copy of my report from CPU-Z. My brother gave me his old computer after it quit workign and he bought a new one. I live over 8 hours away from him so i couldn't just drop by and fix it, nor could he bring it by. Turns out he had several virus's that made his OS un-bootable. The problem is fixed now and he told me to keep it since he has the new one.
Turns out this system is much better than the one I was using. So I moved all my good components to this system. Now I'm going through and updating everything I can. SiSoft Sandra told me to update the BIOS and since I'm having dual monitor problems I figured this might also help resolve that issue as well.
I don't want to fry my board as I just got it and I'm just starting to realize some of it's perks. I've read severl topics here but I'm hesitant to try anything as I'm not rich, nor am I as experienced with all this as many here seem to be. Could someone check out the report below and help me find the BIOS update I need?
    http://www.kyoteskorner.com/cpuz.htm

I really appreciate all the time you guys have given me. It seems it is not really a problem that can be resolved without me going out and buying a newer pci graphics card.
I have 2 pci cards from older systems. Rage Pro 16mb and the PNY TNT2 32mb card. Both cards register as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I have tried using all the drivers I could find to resolve the issue but it seems that none are current made for compatibility with 64 bit architecture, which is why they are only being recognized as a Standard VGA. Both cards work perfectly if used in my 32 bit system. They both accept their legacy drivers and even get recognized there. So unless someone creates a 64 bit driver for use with windows XP Pro I think I'm going to be stuck.
My hope was that a bios upgrade might allow the system to use a 32 bit driver. From what I see I don't think that's possible so I'm going to give it up as a bad job. Thank you for helping me to realize that a bios update wont resolve the issue. You may have prevented me from frying my board or making it unusable. I don't have the financial means to buy a new card let alone ship this board off to get it fixed had I screwed it up like that.
Also thank you for the recommendation about the via 4in1 drivers. I'm not sure if I had installed those or not before you posted that. This is a great place for someone to consult with more knowledgable people.

  • 875 Neo 2

I wonder can anyone help me out and tell me were i have gone wrong.
    i have just bought the MSI 875 Neo 2 mainboard , 3.0ghz FSB800,1 gb ddr400 mem , SB Audio 2 Plat EX , Radeon 9800pro 128,SCSI Card(Booting From)running XP.Bois 1.7
    Disabled On Board Sound.
I have a few problems. (Have Downloaded new Updates)
    1) Live monitor Crashes with error on Start up. Service is not Loaded ( Sometimes ).
    2) Corecenter crashes my board and resets when i click on Auto. What do i need to setup for this to work or what is the best way to overclock this.??
    3) when i go into the BIOS and try to switch from Slow Mode to Turbo my borad Hung on OS load and when i powered off and on the error from the bios was Timings to tight. The bios reset to defaults and i had to setup boot order and other things again.
I am new to all the overclocking stuff can anyone suggest anything, i have uninstalled CoreCenter as i did not want to crash my PC is there a Version i should use.
    Thanks.

First off i would like to thank you all for you help.
I have solved my problem with the MB being unstable with Corecenter and LiveMonitor throwing up errors at login.
I stopped both apps loading at start up as they must hook into services. Xp is different from NT and 2000 in the way it loads Services, Microsoft thought they would make there OS seem like it boots faster by giving you a Logon screen in XP before all the services are loaded and running. This gives you the image that XP is super fast at loading.
So the problem has been solved, by not having the Apps load automatically while the services are not quite ready. Starting them a short period after login or waiting a while after the login screen comes up works everytime and i have managed to OC using the bios Fast option.
Thanks again , also i must say my PC is now like OH MY GOD HOW FAST !!!!.

Well, not exactly sure but kinda. This is what happened. Board was replaced with bios version 1.5. Worked fine for 3 days then the mystery 50% usage came back. They then replaced the memory with ddr400 from ddr333. It's been over a week now and the problem has not returned.
So there are 3 probable culprits at one point or another. The board, the bios and the memory. Personally, I find it very odd that memory was a factor. It seems that bios 1.5 is not at all happy with ddr333. :(

  • 875 neo pc 3500 kingmax

Hello i have a 875 neo fis2 motherboard and a 2.8c intel p4, i placed both mosules in channel  a the green one and my mempery scores are hell low in sandra im taking 2870 low.  There set up for dual channel whats going wrong some one told me to run theese on a 1:1 ratio.   Surely i should be getting faster speeds previosuly i had pc2100 installed i cleared the bios after insalling theee and there giving me problems and there no real performance increase from the old modules please help!

I Kind of Figured that is what was going on, when he Said He Put Both Modules in the  Channel "A" "Green" Bank, But I was Trying to Be Sure, and get More info from him, as I was Having a little Trouble Understanding him robswift, and then he logged Off ...But arve121, You Must do as rob said, and Install the Memory modules, in the DIMM Slots By Skipping 1 Slot Inbetween the 2 Modules, So You Have to install 1 Module in the A-1 (Green) Slot, and then Put Module 2 in the B-3 (Purple) Slot ........Or you Can Put 1 Module in the A-2 (Green) Slot, and the 2ND Module in the B-4 (Purple) Slot, as Long as You Skip a Slot Inbetween, You Must Have it Like this For Dual-Channel DDR to Be Enabled...........Sean REILLY875

  • 875 neo & 4200 memory problems

Hi, everybody. I did picked up a lot of usefull information from this bord, but was lucky enough not to run intoo problems untill now. Before recently I was using pc3200 memory and was able to oc it up to 450 (in auto mode) but that was the limit. When I changed settings from auto to 333, I was able to reach 260 on Cpu and memory read was still 400. Performance sucked, but it is not the question I want to ask, it was just for the sake of knowing that my 2.8 capable of 3.62.
The problem is that couple days ago I purchased ddr4200/533 by OCZ Technologies that supposedly is supported by 875 neo board.
When I set ddr frq auto, 500, 533 it will not boot, or boot with bios defaullts.
When I set ddr on 400 everything is just fine until I reach 250/500 on those settings it runs rock solid. But don't you know that it is not enough? As soon as I try to change fsb to 255-251(tried them all) it boots, starts loading windows and gives me a blue screen of death. Tried to encrease voltage, change latency, nothing works, the only settings that windows loads compleatly was 251/505 but it crashed in the middle of 3dmark3 back to blue screen of death.
I am quite willing to provide you with more extensive Bios settings of my system if you will just tell me what you all want to know. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately, This is a MAT / PAT issue.
    You can try:-
    Dynamic Overclocking: Disabled
    Performance Mode: Slow
and memory timings of 3-4-4-8, but even at slow performance mode still affects your timings.

This simply is not the case the 875P boards only officially support upto DDR400. The only board to support higher memory speeds are the 865PE Neo2-PS series.
I would use CPU-Z to verify your actual memory timings and Memtest to ensure your memory is actually performing as it should, but I suspect this is a mobo issue.
Join the club waiting for MSI to sort out a BIOS that actually works with this memory.

  • [875 NEO] Temperature issues

    Hello everyone
I recently upgraded my bios to version 2.4 and now my cpu temps are showing a considerable increase in temp readings.
before I upgraded I was showing cpu at 27C to 31C (watercooled) now temps are around 50C.
Anyone know if bios 2.4 has temp reporting issues? I am using speedfan configured from the instructions on this board.
BTW I have the earlier version of the 875 Neo.
    Thanks

AAAHAA,  I'm not a SpeedFan user myself, but I have read a lot of post pretaining to incorrect settings therefore resulting in incorrect readings on SpeedFan.  Their should me a lot of Moderators and Users that can help you, if your settings have accidently change or what type of core or chipset or something like that.
    My opinion "Long Live CoreCenter".
I also use Motherboard Monitor...it is giving me the same temp readings .....both of those apps worked correctly prior to the temps starting read wrong.
It was my thought also abut the settings (since BIOS is reprting the correct temp in the PC HEALTH section) ...and I did set up speedfan according to Danny's post.

I did make a backup and tried to boot with it but when I inserted the backup disk and started the computer it got just past the ram drive part and gave me an error.
I remember reading something about holding CTRL-HOME at some point in the process...maybe thats why it failed?
I will copy the 2.3 BIOs file to the disk and try again....anyone have any comments on the disk error by chance?
I am at work atm so I cant give the exact error message right now, but is just after I saw AMIBOOT on the screen below the loading ram drive part.

Unfortunately this is very difficult because the top half of your post, your really the only one that can answer what the setup should be.  The adjustments are made based on the acoustics of your room and how everything sounds noone can really give you info on it because every house, and room has different acoustics.  The walls, insulation, carpet or bare floors, basement or main floor are just some examples of what can make a difference in sound reproduction.   By the way NHT (Now Hear This) are excellent speakers.  For bass and treble, the music I listen too requires a high treble content so I usually have it at 7 out of 10 but my bass is at 4 out of 10.   The sub base should be fine where it is.
Did your receiver come with an Audessy mic for calibration.  I would use that for a basic setup and go from there I am not sure if on your unit it will do frequecy but I think it did.
Your volume settings look fine again personal preference there is right or wrong.
For you listening mode Preset  you should have an auto setting I am at work so it may take a coule of hours for me to get back to you as I have to go through your manual and see what you would set it up with so please bare with me. I will list the info as I read it so it may not be in the order you have it.
I will have to make a second post since I can't go back and edit this one.

  • Armada 1580DMT BIOS Update needed

    Hello from Bulgaria
I'm a HP Compaq user from forever and I've always been happy with the laptop products. I currently own a Pavilion dv6-1080eq.
I still keep the first laptop I got, it's an Armada 1580DMT. I want to bring this old fighter back to life, so I got it an 128mb ram module and planed to upgrade it. BUT it's not recognizing it. It sees only about 16mb of it. Along with this I seemed to have forgoten how to enter the bios setup.
I need a bios update, but I don't seem to be able to find it anywhere.
If you can give me a link from where I can download the latest firmware and some basic instructions on how to upgrade it, it will be great!
I've never used custumer support before and if you need some more information in order to help my case, I'll provide it.
    Thanks in advance
    Regards,
    Yordan

That old girl is an interesting piece of hardware. As you suggest, there is a BIOS update that makes a major difference in computer performance. It raises the maximum memory the computer will see from 64 megs to 80 megs. Sorry to say, the biggest module it will use is a 64 meg EDO laptop module. They are very hard to find these days. A PC-100 or PC-66 module will fit but will not work. I suspect your 128 meg memory stick is in fact a PC-100 module. The 16 megs you are seeing is onboard memory soldered to the motherboard and would be available even in the absence of an expansion module. The BIOS upgrade allows a 64 meg expansion module to work together with the onboard. With the older BIOS adding a 64 meg module would disable the onboard memory, making 64 megs total. The BIOS upgrade also brightens the screen and allows full plug and play operation which is essential to running Windows 2000, which is the best OS for that machine, even though it is a tad slow with 80 megs. Win98 runs pretty well but is fully obsolete now in my opinion and certainly not secure on the internet. If I recall, Windows 2000 installs all needed drivers without any assistance. The last BIOS upgrade for that model is not posted on this website. Check this old thread from the Business User's Forum. Rainald posted a link to the BIOS you need.
    Old Thread
I tried the link and it still works and Rainald even posted instructions on how to make the bootable floppy you need to flash the BIOS. I also think this BIOS update adds CD booting capability to the machine. It is the most effective BIOS update I have ever come across.

  • Msi 875 Neo safe buy?

    Hi bas
My two boys want to build a game-machine each, based on the 875 chipset. We 've been reading most of the posts on the 875 Neo (our favorite board so far after reading reviews), but it's not easy to decide, whether the board is a safe buy. Will it run on Kingston HyperX PC3500 with bios 1.0, which it probably is shipped with? If we use Win XP on NTFS, must we use the floppy/ramdisk method to upgrade the bios? Would you recommend a bios-upgrade to  v.1.4 or should we rather wait for the next bios from Msi?

The board will probably ship with bios version 1.2, if you want to overclock, flash bios 1.3b2 onto it, else bios v1.4.
