875P Bios181 - Still no Turbo or UltraTurbo?

I have recently upgraded my BIOS from 1.5 -> 1.6 ->1.7 ->1.81 and yet I still cannot get any stability trying to enable Turbo or Ultra-Turbo modes.  I seem to run fine in Fast mode but I should be able to get better performance.  At the moment, my DDR Ram is SPD controlled.  I want to get MAT/PAT running and I read that I needed Turbo mode or higher to activate this feature?
Also, if anybody has a similar configuration, could you please email me your DDR timing settings which you think I should be running?

hi y'all ive been reading your comments about turbo, ultra turbo
this is what i have found i had problems trying to get turbo and ultra turbo to work on my 875p i was running mem at 2-2-2-5-8 on these settings it wouldnt work on either so i changed my settings to 2.5-4-4-5-8 and hey presto i can now use both turbo and ultra turbo
i also noticed when i tried benchmarking my mem in sisoft sandra my bandwidth shot up too much more than before
therefore if u have your mem timings too tight you wont be able to use turbo or ultra turbo! i hope that helps

  • MSI GT780DX P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds

Hello ! In my MSI GT780DX  (I5, gtx570m  1.5GB, Windows 7 x64 pro, charger ON)  P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds (aimation from s-bar)
Everything work fine, until install the new driver for GPU from nvidia, v320, and give me problem whit P1 mode.
I'm uninstall the driver, and instal old, no fix, I'm uninstall all driver MSI (nvidia overclok tool, s-bar, afterburner, nvidia drivers) ,and install it again, no fix problem, still P1 "TURBO MODE" automatically off in few seconds ;/
    curiosity:
For more GPU clok (700MHZ)and memory (1700), I run "nvidia inspector",only open "show overcloking",and "Driver profile" , nothing change ! Then run afterburner , and set gpu clok to 700Mhz, memory clok 1700, aply, and in game it's run gpu to 700Mhz, no pressing P1 button !!
But I want to press only P1 button for more gpu clok...
    sorry for bad english.

For anyone that needs help setting the overclock tool to run at startup, just set a task to run the tool with admin priveleges at user login with the task scheduler.
Can confirm this works for me, I can now use my turbo button and change brightness without SCM crashing on the latest Nvidia drivers (331.65).

  • OVERCLOCKING AND TURBO BOOST IN A I-7 4790K ENVY

Can I overclock my HP ENVY 810-430qe CTO 4790K and still expect turbo boost to function?

    Grizzler, welcome to the forum.
From what I have read, once you manually overclock the processor you should actually disable Turbo-boost.  It can affect the stability of your processor.  This makes sense.  Overclocking generates much more heat.

how can I activate the turbo while watching movies at VLC?? I have already checked the "use gpu accelerated decoding" in VLC, but still the turbo is not working... please help me

uhh.. so that means using the gpu wont be necessary??
yes, dedicated GPU is not necessary when watching movies.
integrated GPU will handle this task fine

I have already checked the "use gpu accelerated decoding"
integrated GPU also have such media acceleration, so that's fine.

  • DDR500 and FSB Divider setting

    Hi,
Been running my system as per signature and it's MemTest86+ and Prime95 stable.  However I have 2 problems.
Firstly, if I try to raise the FSB to 251 the divider resets itself from 1:1 to 5:4 (both MemTest and CPU-Z verified) with the RAM dropping back to 200.  I have tried this with MAT settings of Slow, Fast, Turbo and UltraTurbo, Vcore from 1.575 - 1.7 and Vdimm from 2.7 - 3.3.
None of it makes any difference.  It's like a switch.  As soon as I set 251MHz the system reboots with 5:4 divider.
RAM appears OK.  Have run MemTest for 10 hours at 250 with no errors and this RAM should easily handle an overclock >270 .  Don't think heat is a problem as the highest stressed load CPU temp (by SpeedFan) I can get is 60 C.
PSU shouldn't be an issue and I can run the CPU up to 260 with the 5:4 divider so still some headroom there.
I've tried it with both the DRAM freq set to Auto and 400, no change.  It's almost as if it's a design feature or limitation of the BIOS.
Also tried DRAM at 500 and FSB at 200 but the CMOS wouldn't even load at that setting.
Any ideas?  Am I missing something obvious?  Anything else I can try?
Second problem.  The RAM is spec'd by OCZ as Enhanced Latency 2.5-3-3-7 @ DDR500.  However the SPD is 2.5-4-4-8.  When I set the timings manually it accepts and displays 2.5-3-3-7 in the BIOS but both MemTest and CPU-Z report the clock speed as 2.5-4-4-8.
The RAM does run stable at 2.5-3-3-7 at DDR500 as I have set this dynamically in the MemTest Advanced Options.  Unfortunately this does not get written into CMOS.
Is this another BIOS problem?  With this rev bios and my previous HyperX I could easily set tighter timings.

What stepping is your 2.8c and did you raise the vcore to acheive a 250 FSB?
    Stepping 9/Rev D1, Vcore @ 1.7V

I assume you set your FSB to DDR400 in BIOS?
Yes, as mentioned in OP tried both 400 and Auto.

  • Buy Leopard vs Tiger for IMAC G 5 or simple give in and buy new IMac??

After reviewing this topic, I am still confused as to what to do. The Leopard OS looks complicated to load and I am not at all savy about Mac's and trouble shooting problems!! Is the Tiger a better way to go for a simple Mac user like me? I am even thinking about a new IMac with updated software and Leopard. My IMac works great but the Panther OS and ILife are probably getting outdated (but still meets all my needs still, though Turbo Tax will now not run on it.). Any suggestions or advice? Dazed and confused!

    Hi Stephen,
I agree with MGW that you seem to be looking for confirmation or approval that it would be a good idea to buy a new Mac. I have a feeling that if you install Leopard into your old Mac, it may run slower that on a stronger Mac which would have more RAM and power. Leopard would also take up more space from your current 80 HD. Furthermore, by purchasing a new iMac, you will be able to benefit from a SuperDrive instead of a ComboDrive, a bigger HD, and more RAM can't hurt.
Anyway, I'm cheering for you! Good luck with your decision! I never regretted my move from an old Quick Silver G4 tower (CD-R) to my current MacPro. It took me many years to get the courage and the money to finally go for it and NO REGRETS!
    Best wishes...
    Rio.

  • MBP 13" 2.66, 15" 2.4 or 15" 2.53? CANT DECIDE!

About to scoop up a MBP. Was thinking of getting a 13" 2.66, gonna use FCE for basic video stuff for work. Nothing too mind blowing.
A user here suggested that I go to the middle 15" 2.53 not just for screen real estate, but because the 13" MacBook Pro has the shared graphics memory.
I talked to Apple and they suggested that same thing. Am I just being upsold or is this a solid investment. I have no problem going to the 15" 2.4, simply for the I-5, but may be stepping up a bit more in price for the 15" 2.53 than I am comfortable with. Am I going to REALLY need to?
    Thanks!

I agree the stepping up to the Intel Core i5. After all my research I believe the 2.4GHz is the *sweet spot* in terms of cost effectiveness . You still get turbo boost and hyper threading.
You will get more performance with max RAM as opposed to nominal difference in processor speed.
hope this helps. Enjoy that new MBP !

  • 875P Neo-LSR/ FIS2R died after setting perf. mode to turbo

I work with my computer about 4 years in same basic configuration (p4 2.8, 2x256 ocz pc3700 and 2x256 mushkin pc3500) always running in 400fsb. Yesterday i decided to play with those performance modes in bios to check the maximun i could get out of memories latencies. OCZ spd is 2.5-7-7-9 and mushkin i think it was 2-5-5-7, but i always work without problem setting manualy to 2.5-5-5-8.
So yesterday i changed the performance mode from fast to turbo mode and the computer was working ok.
Then i restarted and changed to 2-5-5-7 and perf. mode to ultra turbo. After i saved the configuration in bios, my computer stoped to respond. The computer remain on, HDD led on, but no post screen and no beeps in start up.
I already tried to clear cmos a lot of times, but it doesn't work. No beeps or screen on startup. It's like when u turn your computer on without the processor on socket. I did this without all periferals and still same result.
Does i have any other way to clear cmos to default configs?
Now i'm waiting the answer from the tech assistence store to know if my mobo or my processor is damaged.
Anyone have any idea about what could i try to bring my computer back to life?
thx and sorry about the bad english.

    OK, so you tested everything.......
Had same issue a fews back with 875P
My advice, look for a replacement 478 retention bracket. I used to sell them but, alas no ,more.
Sounds like you may have socket sag............. the back plate will provide extra support........

  • Problem on fast, Turbo, Ultra Turbo. bios 1.5 still buggy.

Ok, I'm using my 875P neo(1.5 bios)  as a realtime video editing system,  I have realtime Video out both on  Analog and DV (Firewire)  with a Canopus card DV Storm 2.
First i thought my canopus card  is broken because I have Flickering and nothing than digital blocks out of the  DV Output which is really strange but more important i cannot use this. :(
I gladly found out that's not my Storm card but the Ultra turbo setting , i changed to fast, turbo, No Luck and a bit of system instability.
Everything will Only function properly when set  to Slow mode X(  voilá problem Ficksed! :]  but that's a ridiculous performance in slow mode compared to ultra turbo! (benchmark shows write performance less than a 2.4Cghz processor an another brand mobo)(I'm using 3.0Cghz) 8o
I think i'm not the only one with strange problems like this, damn  MSI you got some work here.
I hope MSI will Improve a lot with a new bios update if not i will choose an other brand mobo.

    Dragak,
There is no guarantee that Ultra-Turbo setting will run 100% stably on ALL SYSTEMs where as each system consists of different sets of hardware. But there are some cases and their system specs are superbly well to support Ultra-Turbo setting. If all system can run at Ultra-Turbo, then there will be no Slow,Fast and Turbo mode anymore!
Based on what factors make you think that your Canopus card can support those faster settings?? Why don't you try to take the card off your system and go with the Ultra-Turbo or Turbo mode.

  • 875p, I CANT LOCK my PCI / AGP Frequency using FAST,TURBO, or ULTRA

i have an 875p neo. i am one setting away from loving this mainboard(finally). i have a 2.8ghz running at 3.0 (with a 1:1 FSB/RAM). i can run stable in TURBO MODE, with "timings by SPD". i am using 1.7 bios (1.8 gives me lower performance). i tried all the bios from 1.4 and up. my problem is I CANT LOCK MY AGP/PCI frequency. no matter what, it boots up in windows as 70/35, but only when using FAST,TURBO,or ULTRA PERFORMANCE MODE. my agp/pci frequency locks fine at 66/33(67/34) if i run in SLOW MODE, but any other performance mode setting overclocks the AGP PCI frequency to 70/35. this causes my ATI 9700np to freeze almost instantly while playing any game. luckily my ATI card has unlocked bios or the problem would be worst. i have been using CLOCKGEN to throw the settings back to 66/33 when windows loads, and i get no freezes. BUT I WANT A PERMANENT FIX MSI. not a CLOCKGEN patch. my question to you all out there:
IS THERE A particular BIOS THAT I CAN USE THAT will LOCK THE PCI/AGP FReQUENCY while using FAST,TURBO, and ULTRA PERFORMANCE MODES? or another way to lock the setting in the bios?any suggestions? thanks
    EDIT 2:
i just remembered, i forgot to tell you all. my agp/pci lock works fine if i run my ram in 333mhz mode. i have 400mhz ram. i was a running 1:1 ratio. agp/pci doesnt lock only if i use "auto" or "400mhz" settings. it run fine when i have my ram set to run at 333mhz. are you runnig at 400mhz or 333mhz? if 333mhz i can see why i left you guys confused...sorry.

    !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MY FIX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WELL I GUESS WE HAVE TO USE THE GHETTO FIX FOR NOW:
(i am assumming this is an ATI CARD only PROBLEM)
download clockgen and install it. check your AGP/PCI frequency. if it reads  70/35 then you have a problem, which will cause your ATI card to freeze up during a period of use.
unlock your cards bios(if it's not already unlocked). this will allow room for the 70/35 AGP/PCI frequency overclock. get info from rage3d.com forum on how to unlock your  ATI card.
make your clockgen settings startup when windows boot, @***ghz, 66/33 agp/pci(read the clockgen instructions on how to run clockgen on boot)
    download radclocker and install it.
set the AGP core/mem clock speeds to what you desire. then bump down the core TWO NOTCHES, then the memory down TWO NOTCHES then click "use current" bios button. 70/35 boot overclock pushes your ATI core/memory up two notches, so by setting radclocker 2 notches , radclocker takes the 70/35overclock two nothes lower. you have your desired speed. then clockgen throws your agp/pci frequency back to 66/33....which makes everything work right. it all boots in the right order for me.
    explaination:
when windows starts it boots your agp/pci frequency@ 70/35. you need to be at 66/33 AGP/pci frequency for your ati card to run correct and not lock up after intense gameplay. radclocker underclock your card.clockgen puts your agp/pci to 66/33 AGP/PCI frequency.

  • I still can't be on a phone call and use data without wifi on my Droid Turbo.  I thought this was going to be fixed by late November.

    I am so disappointed.  I am a long time Droid user and research the Droid Turbo for several months before purchasing.  I even read the reviews that indicated that there was a issue when attempting to use the phone calling feature and data at the same time.  I called Verizon and talked with a rep. who indicated that he had the new phone and assured me that this issue had been fixed.  Unfortunately, when I received the phone this was not the case.  Even an update shortly after purchase still did not fix this issue.  All of my Droids before this did not have this issue...how can a newer more improved phone?  I even called Motorola and the English of the representative was so bad that I could not overcome the language barrier therefore no solution was reached.  Wish I had my Razr HD back :{

I can understand the concern CCONLEY.   Go to Settings>Advanced Calling> and select Activate Advanced Calling or contact Customer Service to get the features added. Once added Reboot device and go back to Setting>Advanced Calling>and ensure the Advanced Calling switch is set to On. Ensure you are in a 4G LTE service area and test again.  If there is still an issue, please let us know so we can forward your findings to the software team.    TamaraH_VZW Follow us on Twitter @VZWSupport If my response answered your question please click the "Correct Answer" button under my response. • Should Enhanced Turbo still work on H87-G43 for non-k i7-4770?

Having a similar issue to the one described here ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172887.msg1258722#msg1258722 ) but this is on a H87-G43 with a non-k i7-4770. The feature used to work fine with all 4 cores going to 3.9 GHz on turbo but, with the stock cooler that I was using, thermal throttling became an issue on high workloads (e.g. AIDA64 stress test, handbrake, etc.).
So, I disabled Enhanced Turbo and I ordered a Hyper 212 Evo which I only recently installed. I turned Enhanced Turbo back on but now it seems that Enhanced Turbo is offering nothing extra over normal turbo with the 4 cores only hitting 3.7 GHz under load and not the 3.9 GHz that they used to reach. Hardware is the same (except the cooler, which has no effect) so I presume that it must be BIOS-related.
I'm running latest v2.5 BIOS for the board and have changed the Core Ratio Limits manually to value of 39 but still no joy. Does anyone else have this issue on H87-G43 with a non-k i7-4770? Can anyone confirm that the feature is working for them with a non-k i7-4770 (or any non-k CPU) on a H87-G43 with this latest v2.5 BIOS?

Ok, so I've done numerous BIOS flashes and here's what I have found:
Rather like the user in this topic ( https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172887.msg1258722#msg1258722 ), I found that the Enhanced Turbo worked correctly on the H87-G43 and i7-4770 with default Auto settings up to BIOS v2.3 (2013-06-07). The clock multiplier was set to 39 allowing turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores.
With the introduction of BIOS v2.4 (2013-08-16), again similar to the other user, it is necessary to manually set the 1/2/3/4-Core Ratio Limit values (found in the CPU Features sub-menu of the OC Menu) to the value of 39 in order to allow turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores.
Using BIOS v2.5 (2013-09-23), no matter what settings, it does not seem possible to allow turbo operation at 3.9 GHz on all cores with an i7-4770. It would seem the feature has either been accidentally or deliberately disabled in this latest BIOS. I'll raise it directly in a support ticket to MSI and in the meantime I will stay on BIOS v2.4 which is the most recent BIOS that allows me to get the most out of my CPU and new cooler.
Thanks again to xmad for his help and advice. Hopefully this post will save time and effort for other users with similar issues.

  • New logic board, still boot problems with Turbo Fans

I bought a 2Ghz dual G5 from a guy on craigslist and he told me that the Geniuses at the Apple Store said it had a bad logic board. So I bought a brand new logic board from DVwarehouse.com, and installed it along with a new set of matched RAM from Crucial, a new HD, new PRAM battery, new video card and a new superdrive. The only thing original are the processors and power supply (and fans, of course).
When I start it up, after the chime it quickly goes into "turbo-fan mode", which I have read that means the Op Sys didn't load correctly. Many restarts later, I was able to reset the nvram in the Open Firmware, but that didn't seem to help at all. I also pressed the SMU button (according to Apple's directions), but that didn't help much either.
I've had a few successful boots, but always with the fans going full blast. I though that once I got Leopard loaded onto the HD, then it would calm down with a software update. But before I ever get that far, the G5 hangs. Sometimes the G5 will boot and access the HD but hangs soon after. Sometimes I can get it to boot off the Leopard DVD. But most of the time it just boots and sits there slowly spinning up the fans into turbo mode.
The few times it has booted to access the HD or DVD, the fans go turbo right away. Other times it will boot with a chime, but then it won't access the HD or DVD and I get noting on the display.
I should say that this behavior is almost identical to how it was acting before I replaced the logic board. But how can that be? It should be a new computer, unless the problem is in the CPUs. Is that very likely? How would I find out if the CPUs are bad?
I've been reading alot about the problems I'm having with this G5 and what I've been having seems to be very common. But I've run out of fixes. Is there anything I can do to fix this machine or is it just money down the drain?

my iMac 20" G5 experience since December 2004, even though I love this machine,it has gone through 3 power supply (661-3350) replacements and 3 logic board replacement since late 2004. Pretty crazy for a single machine but I still love it. The last logic board replacement did NOT fix my boot up problem, as I expected, and the genius finally agreed to replace the power supply and that fixed it. SO: My recommendation to you is "replaced the power supply" here is one place you can get one: http://www.dvwarehouse.com/Power-supply-180W-for-iMac-G5-20--100v-661-3350---614 -0353-----NEW-p-25613.html

  • ? ON BOARD PURCHASE. 875P Still OK?

    Hello-
I'd like to upgrade my present GNB-MAX FISR board / processor.  I planned to but unlike a few months ago, there are few 875P boards available in my local stores.
    My criteria:
    1.  SATA RAID capable.
    2.  Full service board, with many peripheral connections.
    3.  Migrate my present DDR memory & 3.2 GHZ 800 FSB processor.
Seems like the 875P is the only available option which meets my criteria  IS this still a reasonable MB?  I ask since I can't find any in stores.  My alternaive (at least as I see it) is to migrate to 915P, but this would mean new memory as well, something I'd like to avoid.  I bought the 865 NEO2-P, but realized doesn't support RAID so i'll take it back.
In short:  Is 875P still a reasonable board to buy?  Any alternatives / suggestions?
    Thx.
    Scott

Yes, the MSI 875 (pcb2) is one alternative
    and so is :
865PE Neo2-PFISR - Gb LAN, IEEE1394 firewire, SATA, SATA RAID ( no IDE raid though, which pcb1 had)
    http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=528
Both boards supports Northwood / Prescott cpu´s.
About RAID, you coud read this thread/article as well.....
    http://www.anandtech.com/storage/showdoc.aspx?i=2101
    Their conclusion:
If you haven't gotten the hint by now, we'll spell it out for you: there is no place, and no need for a RAID-0 array on a desktop computer. The real world performance increases are negligible at best and the reduction in reliability, thanks to a halving of the mean time between failure, makes RAID-0 far from worth it on the desktop.
There are some exceptions, especially if you are running a particular application that itself benefits considerably from a striped array, and obviously, our comments do not apply to server-class IO of any sort. But for the vast majority of desktop users and gamers alike, save your money and stay away from RAID-0.
If you do insist on getting two drives, you are much better off putting them into a RAID-1 array to have a live backup of your data. The performance hit of RAID-1 is just as negligible as the performance gains of RAID-0, but the improvement in reliability is worthwhile...unless you're extremely unlucky and both of your drives die at the exact same time.
When Intel introduced ICH5, and now with ICH6, they effectively brought RAID to the mainstream, pushing many users finally to bite the bullet and buy two hard drives for "added performance". While we applaud Intel for bringing the technology to the mainstream, we'd caution users out there to think twice before buying two expensive Raptors or any other drive for performance reasons. Your system will most likely run just as fast with only one drive, but if you have the spare cash, a bit more reliability and peace of mind may be worth setting up a RAID-1 array.
Bottom line: RAID-0 arrays will win you just about any benchmark, but they'll deliver virtually nothing more than that for real world desktop performance. That's just the cold hard truth.
The above comes from this Forum thread:

Only questionmark is this new board that is not yet released.........

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
