875P CPU Ratio locked?

Just setup my system
875P MSI NEO MB
P4 2.8 800FSB HT
2x 512 HyperX Kingston RAM
2x WD HDD SATA Raptor 36.7 10000RPM
KT - 436 WM Case
ANTEC 480w TrueBlue
Sony FDD
Pioneer CD/DVD-ROM
The Drives are setup in a RAID-0
Here are my problems
1) The Freq/Volt is listing the CPU Ratio as Locked!?!?! WTH!! I can't touch the multiplier!!
2) I cannot get the HDD LED to work for the life of me anyone had success is the manual wrong? should I try other Pins?
3) My case has Front Panel USB(x4). 2 of the connectors from the panel are meant to plug into the board and each have a n extra pin that I think is meant as an extra ground or something. Should I just ignore these and plug them in normally?
My RAM runs at 2/2/2/6 8 just fine and the drives are working great got windows loaded just fine with all the drivers and MSI utilities. Though the tru-color doesn't work very well turned everything a bit too blue.
Number one is my real headache I really wanted to run this sucker at 3.0-3.2 and up the FSB a bit.
Also sorry I don't know which BIOS revision I am at since I am at work I'll post it when I get home. Though the auto update thing told me it was up to date.

Ok well I found out Intel still locks their chips I thought they had stopped doing this and just found out how wrong I am.
Anyone have any insights on the HDD LED??

  • 875P CPU Ratio Selection

I'm running a 2.4 GHz 800 MHz P4 on the 875P with 1.4 BIOS. In BIOS, the CPU Ratio selection entry says "Locked." Selecting this option gives me a menu that is suppose to allow me to change this value with the up and down keys (I've also tried the PgDn and PgUp keys - the up and down keys are the only ones that don't beep when I depress them so I know they are the right ones). But when I do this, the only option that shows up is "Locked." Has anyone else seen this, or know what is going on?

pentium cpu are locked from the factory
only a few engineering samples are not ,and you will not have one of them

    Hi guys,
I need help OCing using the MSI GD65 gaming board
    I'm using a i7-4770k cpu
When I try to adjust the the cpu core ratio, it seems to be locked on auto.
I'm using the newest bios according to auto update
Heres a pic, sry about the quality

    thanks for all your input/
The keyboard is fine, i can adjust other settings and navigate the menu with it. I even tried naming an OC profile and it worked fine.
I do believe there is something wrong with either the cpu or mobo that identifies the i7-4770k as a locked cpu.
Btw, OC genie works fine and i can clock the cpu to 4.2 ghz.
And I'm new to this, what does  flashing the cmos mean?
    On nameing OC profile, i didnt mean "normal ABC" i mean, Special, hmmm ...marks like = ( ) % ¤ # " ! - + ? `´ ... and so on
And yeah i was o post the same results my self firts, but when i get i it was like what "i try this 20 times before".
Edit: Its "Clear CMOS" not "Flash". Its on page 1-34 on your MB manual.
I Hope you get it working, Cheers! Mummy
Edit 2: So forget your mouse on BIOS totaly! It only hurts you! use your KB to go to what you want to change and use it to chage it with numbers, enter or +/- ...
Edit 3: What if you swich to your orginal Bios v1.0 on board. can you change it? Without saveing ofcorse!!!

  • FM-A75IA-E53 + A10-6800K cpu ratio is locked

    Hi!
As Russian's MSI forum is dead I'd ask here.
    New board FM-A75IA-E53 (bios 2.0) + A10-6800K + 2x4Gb 2133MHz GSkill Ares RAM
Post, Boot Win7_x64 boot is Ok. But problem comes from Sun Virtual machine player.
The virtual machine is failed to start due to virtualization is off. I have search in the bios but failed to find 'SVM enable' switch. Despite it was described in the manual. (hint: bios 2.0 'SVM enable' is absent)
The bios was updated to 2.2.
'SVM enable' switch appear with Enable/Disable options.
    Win!
    But!
The CPU Ratio and Turbo Ratio is locked now. The lines to set the ratio is active (highlited, not dimmed as disabled) but on action on mouse click.
Does it common error with this mobo+cpu+bios or it is my motherboard bug?
    Please help.

You need to use +/- keys to change ratio settings not mouse click.

The best I can advise is to delete Control Centre from your PC and attempt changes via the BIOS. IF that fails then MSI technical needs to be advised so that they can try and simulate your hardware combo. If it does work via the BIOS, then MSI technical should be advised irrespective about the Control Centre's inability to perform the functions it should.
My own experience with Control Centre software has been anything but satisfactory. The best way is still to tweak via the BIOS.
Just to confirm, you did do a CMOS reset/clear after the BIOS update? Power cord removed..... the normal procedure?
Yeah I've been working in the BIOS.. Bummer the tool lets me change everything but the CPU ratio..
I cleared CMOS w/ the same process you mentioned a few times prior to be sure..
Just after I made the initial post I opened a tech support tkt so we shall see.. I still think it has something to so w/ the BIOS interpreting my CPU as locked but I could be wrong..
Thanks for your assistance.. I appreciate it..

  • BIOS showing 2500K Locked & Cant adjust CPU ratio in Windows.. P67A-GD65

    Hello all..
I am not having any stability issues at all with my setup.. It is running great and I love the P67A-GD65..
However I am having an issue w/ CPU ratio adjustment..
I am running the 1.6 BIOS release from the 1.4 the board shipped with.. The issues remained on both BIOS versions..
I noticed in the CPU section the BIOS is seeing my 2500K as "LOCKED".. I can however adjust the CPU ratio manually in the OC section of the BIOS to achieve the overclock I want..
I enabled the "adjust cpu ratio from OS" option.. However the Control Center II software will not show me a dropdown to adjust the ratio in Windows 7 Pro 64bit.. So I have to make manual CPU ratio changes in the BIOS for now.. Control Center II does allow all other options to be changed.. Memory settings etc.. I just can't change the CPU ratio..
I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the Control Center app.. BIOS upgrade.. CMOS clear.. etc.. I suspect this is just a flaky BIOS issue..
Anyone else experiencing this? This is a minor inconvenience.. I can get everything I need out of the board from the BIOS I would just really like to use Control Center II for everything if possible..
    Thanks!!

  • P67A-GD65 B3 - bios locked at 42x cpu ratio

    Hi all
    I'm running a P67A-GD65 (B3) with 2x2GB of G.Skill ripjaws (F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM) 2500k, 460gtx, WD black, WD green, win7 HP
And just added another two stick of the same ripjaws. - this didn't post :(
Cleared cmos, loaded defaults as was running the ripjaws at 1.5v still didn't boot
Removed the old set and booted fine with the new set.
Ran the bios and windows memtest all fine.
Then noticed that new sticks were running 1.66v with XMP (1600)
XMP couldn't be disable and ram speed coundn't be changed - bios showed as white, but didn't highlight with mouse or arrow keys.
CPU ratio was also at 42 (as above, white but un clickable or arrow un selectable)
It was also running stock bios 1.8 - and I'm sure I was using 1.8b11 beta
Flashed to 1.12 but that didn't change anything accept a different set of beeps
running 1.9 now with same beeps as before.
load defaults doesn't change any thing - very confused - if there a setting I need to unlock to change things manually?

Gave the OC Genie button a bit of movement when the power was fully off.
It started up perfectly after an extended time clear cmos - stock 2500k timings and 1.5v 667 (10700)
Rebooted with the extra sticks without issue , stressing the ram now without errors.
Thank to you both - don't think i left it long enough after using the cmos button - my bad, school boy error of not reading the clear cmos guide

  • CPU Ratio not changing

    Hello,
I have a K7N2G (Bios ver 3.7) with an XP2500 Barton CPU and any changes
that I make to the CPU ratio has no effect. The FSB changes do stick though
and I've set all bios options manually.
J10 is in user mode and J11 is at 133/166.
    Any ideas?

newer bartons are factory locked like the P4
only the older ones can alter multipliers

  • 865PE Neo2-S:CPU Ration LOCKED ??!!

    Hi All,
I am using a P4 2.4C ghz CPU with it. When I go to "Frequency/Voltage Control", in the "CPU Ratio Selection", it says LOCKED !!! I can't change it. When I press "Enter" to go into submenu, it only gives me one option, which is "LOCKED".
    Please help.
    Thanks.

I used to have an Abit board which unlocks all feature including CPU ratio for o/c, but performance still lags behind this NEO board, although I have the Abit board to o/c my system to 2.66MHz and my NEO2 board to remain system speed at 2.4GHz.
This board is still out-performing many when keeping at original CPU speeds, unless if you\'re really keen on o/cing you can try Corecenter but I don\'t recommend tweaking from here if you\'ve read through carefully on how it o/c system. Anyway, it all depends on you whether to do or not to do.
    All the Best... :D!!!
Intel CPU's are always multiplier locked. This is not MSI's fault. Intel decides what multiplier a CPU gets.
They have done this since the P133.

  • X79A-GD65 (8D) - Get stuck at 12x cpu ratio multiplier or 1200MHz

Hi all.  Just wanted to see if anyone else observed this with the new X79 chipset motherboard and the 3930K or 3960X sandy bridge-e cpu.
When trying to overclock the motherboard in any way
    1) CPU Ratio set to any number
    2) Per Core Maximum ratio / multiplier
    3) OC Genie II
and then trying a CPU stress utility such as Prime95
The CPU gets locked at 1200Mhz, or 12 x 100Mhz and never goes higher than that.  At the same time, the temperature sensors believe the CPU is locked at 91 degrees celsius.  So I believe on this bios version of 1.2 on the MS-7760 motherboard (X79A-GD65), it thinks 91 degrees is too hot, and never goes above 1200MHz.  I've also tried OC Genie and manual overclocking at bios version 1.1, and I cannot go over 1200Mhz.
Only at stock speeds (no overclocking), with the 3930K, at full CPU load tests with Prime95, it does go to 3500Mhz, or 35 x 100, correctly.
Right now I cannot overclock at all, whether with OC Genie, or manual cpu ratio multipliers.
Tweaktown and HWBot and several other websites have observed this.  I'm running the latest 1.2 bios, and still get stuck at 12x.
    http://hwbot.org/forum/showthread.php?s=51e18bdfe400391d0955716a5c66343d&p=138647#post138647
    http://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/4423/msi_x79a_gd65_intel_x79_motherboard_review/index5.html

Scratch that.  It was happy yesterday, but first boot of the morning today and back to stuck at 12x/91C.  Will changing other voltages remedy this?  I read something on a review website suggesting this was a problem with the actual 3930K/3960X chips, and not necessarily a motherboard issue.
If I raise my cpu base clock from 100 to 125 and use a 36 multiplier, the machine forces the memory to run at 2,000 MHz, which according to the SPD shown in bios should be OK, but I couldn't get it to boot like that.  Is there anything I can change to allow the machine to work in that configuration?
Edit:  Just read yet another OC review (this time on HardwareSecrets) and found the following:
"The “correct” way of overclocking Intel CPUs with Turbo Boost technology is to change the clock multiplier that each core will use when the Turbo Boost technology kicks in."
I just tried changing the core ratio limit for all six cores to 45, setting the cpu ratio to auto, and leaving the core voltage at 1.375V, and it seems to work again.  Boots into Win7, coretemp displays correct temperatures, and when I load the cpu using prime95, it hits 4.5GHz.  I will try setting core voltage to auto also so that the cpu doesn't stay at 1.375V at idle when not necessary.  I'd still like to OC the memory in theory - not sure how much boost I'd get by running the memory above 1600 MHz.  I'll be using this PC for some computational fluid dynamics, so every bit of speed I can eek out of it will be put to use.
Edit 2:  Auto core voltage works, vcore drops to 0.840V at idle, and idle temps drop back down closer to room temperature (using an Antec Sonata Elite case with a Corsair H80 water cooler, so slightly less airflow than ideal but I have the case fans optimized for now by relocating the system blower fan to a drive bay and adding a 120mm fan in the lower drive bays pulling air out of the side of the case).

  • MSI K9A2 PLAT/AMD 9850 BE/ CPU Ratio issue

    Stats
    AMD-9850 BE
MSI-K9A2 plat v1.0/Bios 1.3(have given 1.4 and 1.6 a try and it does not fix the issue)
    PSU-Apevia Warlock 900w
    ATI 4870
    4gigs(2 sticks) OCZ-DDR2 1066
    Windows Vista 64-SP1
My issue is that my CPU ratio will not change the speed of my current CPU clock in BIOS(or real time CPUZ).  The stock CPU ratio for an AMD 9850 BE is 12.5.  I can change it to 13 (ect) and save and reboot but it will not change the CPU clock, however the cell menu shows it at x13 2600 MHz.  Its almost as if the ratio is locked and it should not be.  I can lower the Ratio to 12 changing the CPU clock to 2.4 so it is working, in a way.  When I gave bios 1.6 a try the options for CPU ration only went up to 12.5(stock).  I am starting to think that I got a locked 9850 when it came in a 9850BE box!!!   Is there a MB setting I am missing or anything?  This is starting to drive me nuts.
Any help would be great!! thank you
    PS
AOD also shows all options to change CPU Ratio grayed out.... Could having D.O.T.3 Step settings disabled mess this up?
Is There something that has to be physically set to allow this on the MB?... Which would be a 1st for me?

  • Aspect ratio lock / gradient tool / brush /  doesn't remember status

    hello,
why do i always have to tell the aspect ratio lock 1023429384 times to lock itself until it remembers it's status?
it's the same with the brush or gradient tool. it remembers only it's previous status which is kind of total nonsense and annoying.
    what am i doing wrong?
    thank you!
    geerd

    Frustrating isn't the word.
I reported this through a previous post (much the same as you are experiencing).
    crop not keeping to ratio
It was ok in LR3 and is ok in LR5 (I think)
so they have fixed the bug, but where does that leave the LR4.4 users ??
    Upgrade to LR5 ?
Surely there should be a LR4.4 bug fix that can be downloaded instead of yet another purchase to upgrade.
