875P Neo-FIS2R & Maxtor Problem?

I've installed a 80GB Maxtor S-ATA drive on friday and istalled Win XP on it. No problems so far. But when I booted the PC the next day I got lots of error messages regarding data loss when writing. And that all the time. :(
Another thing is, when I go to my BIOS I can't lock my PCI/AGP clock to 34/67 when going to 250MHz FSB (5:4 ratio). If I do a BIOS reset and set everything and save it seems to work. But when I re-enter the BIOS, AGP is shown as high as 72MHz instead of 67. WHY? Is there a program I can use to look what clock I really have for PCI and AGP in Windows?

i have the same hd mine works fine on the 875P
the only problem i have is that my maxtor boots and works in UDMA5 mode only on both the intel & promise.
Does yours show UDMA6 at boot up also i can set the agp/pci bus in the bios to 3 options 66/72/80 i am not to sure but if i remember correct before the maxtor hdd i could set it in 1 mhz increments but not now.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R boot problem

    Hello,
    Just built a new machine with the following parts. Sometimes it boots fine, but mostly when you turn it on nothing happens, no beeps, no visual, no nothing. Also, once in awhile it takes 15 - 20 seconds before it beeps and visuals come on screen. It's using bios version 1.2 with all default settings by shorting out jumpers. (It gives different voltage settings when reset by jumpers vrs utility.) Once it boots it runs fine, even though memory timings are 2-4-4-6 SPD instead of 2-2-2-6 SPD that my memory modules are suppose to be. However when I manually change to 2-2-2-6 the bios shows that but CPU-Z still shows 2-4-4-6, thats a different story though which a bios update would probally fix. Right now all I want is for it to boot consistently, every time. Ive tried a different power switch and a different power supply. Neither helped and this is driving me crazy, somebody please assist or post any information you might feel would help.

    I have /had same problem with Neo 875 and corsair TWINX512-3200LL and bios V1.2 It has something to do with mem settings and/or Vdimm voltage. At this moment it boots fine but I can't explain way. It seems that this kind of memory is very sensitive for the Vdimm voltage. 2.5V is to low and some systems refuse to post. (see the bios 1.4 flash problems) Must user use 2.6v; 2.65v or 2.7v. Check out if you can find a stable setting. Bios v1.2 uses default SPD settings. you can't change them. Although after bios reset (removed battery) I get some different values with cpu-z. 2-2-2-6 I don't understand why I get those values in CPU-Z. I don't believe that my system is running with those settings. I think it's running with default bios 1.2 settings 2,5-4-4-6 but who knows?
    A lot of users had dead MOBO's when they flashed to v1.4. The reason isn't found. Some moderators say the didn't wait for the DOS prompt after flashing (Could be) Some users can confirm they did. Maybe it has to do with the corsair memory. If you do a search you will find a lot of usefull information (bios v1.4 and/or MOBO hangs on keyboard initialisation)

  • MSI 875P NEO FIS2R AGP problems

    I have just purchased an MSI 875P NEO FIS2R motherboard and there is a sticker covering the AGP slot which says "Please use only 1.5V AGP cards to avoid pernament damage to this mainboard". However, on the website it says here http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=434
    "One AGP slot supports 8x/4x at 0.8V (AGP 3.0) or 4x at 1.5V
      (3.3V is not supported)." I want to use 8x agp @ 0.8v and the website says this ok but the sticker on the AGP slot on the motherboard says only 1.5V. Is this a mistake on the website or on the Motherboard and is it possible for me to use 8x AGP @ 0.8V without damaging the motherboard?
    I want to use an ATI radeon 9800pro.
    Anybody using 8x agp @ 0.8V and have they have any problems?

  • Probems with msi 875p neo Fis2r and network controller driver

    Hi guys just wondering if anyone could help me with my msi 875p neo FIS2R and problems with the network controller driver/network card.
    I'm running xp on a computer my nextdoor neighbour gave me. I got it working fine  with service pack 3 installed but then installed a bunch of windows updates last night and the computer would switch itself off before windows could start. Now I reinstalled xp and unfortunately it does not recognise the network controller/card at all now. I tried installing the intel network controller drivers but it stopped because it said no intel adapter/card was installed/present. Could anyone please help with suggestions? I tried running everest and under newtwork it doesnt list intel network adapters but I'm pretty certain it is. Again any suggestions?

  • 875P NEO FIS2R problems with booting at power-up

    Having problems with booting at power-up.
    Recently, with no apparent modification to system - at power up the system will often not boot.  About 80% of time systems seems to go into a loop with CD/DVD drive light blinking a few times, then the floppy drive light comes on and can hear the FDD run – within 30 seconds or so, this process starts over again.  Power switch LED is on and HDD LED is on (continuously).  All fans are running (power supply fan, case fan, CPU fan and Intel Canterwood 875 fan ).
    Monitor power on light is in power save mode (amber) when system does not boot.  When boot is successful the monitor power light turns green immediately.
    After pressing the reset button several times (varies between pressing reset button 1 time to 30 or more times) system will then boot OK or go into set up.
    Once running there is no apparent problem.
    This mainboard comes with D Bracket containing 2 USB 2.0 ports, and 4 diagnostics LEDs - when boot problem occurs the diagnostic LEDs, give a code that in the MSI mainboard manual states “Initializing Keyboard Controller” and diagnostic LEDs stays in this mode until via reset button provides a successful boot and start up.
    Have reseated all connectors.

    No, second 40GB HDD was installed months before this issue started and is jumpered as slave drive.  Also, no other additional hardware installed for several months before issue.

  • Problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R when tyring to use x4 Crucial 512MB DDR modules

    Hi all
    I have a problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R when tyring to use x4 512MB DDR modules. At first the system seem fine then it just hangs on me. All modules are exactly same and I have tried updating my bios and adjusting the settings but nothing works. My system is fine when using x2 512MB moduels. I have searched the forum and found no clear answer although there are other people with this problem. Please can anyone let me know if there is anything I can do with my current configuration to make the x4 512MB DDR work?
    From other posts I have learned so far that I either have to buy Paired modules from the manufacturer (which is no use because I bought my first x2 DDR a year ago) or only use x2 and now Dabs isnt taking the other x2 that I just bought because there is nothing wrong with the modules themselves (its the mobo).
    I built my system from scratch and wouldnt have been able to have done it without previous assistance so thanks in advance for any help

    Relaxing the timings will enable your RAMs to run at higher latencies so that they do not need to go extra mile to catch up with the transfer rates with the FSB.
    Lowering the frequencies is like underclocking a speedy twin turbo to a standard single turbine which means lowering of speed so that the RAMs can run lower than expectations which'll be able to provide room for o/c'ing back near to its original frequency.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R File Copy errors loading Win XP Pro

    While installing WinXP Pro SP 1 I get file copy failures on random files two or three times during  the install. Retry succeeds on the file, but errors keep coming up after install randomly. Explorer crashes on logon, files are corrupt, etc. Tried two different MBs, two different CPUs, two different PSUs, two different sets of RAM, different IDE cables, booting from both DVD Drives, different Win XP CDs. I also tried the same with a Gigabyte 875 board and had exactly the same problem. With the Gigabyte board, if I ran the bus with a setting of 190 or 195 instead of 200MHz, the system ran fine, but then my 2.8GHz CPU is running at 2.66GHz. I can't go slower than 200MHz (but I did try 201 and 202; same errors) on the Neo-FIS2R so I can't find a setting that is stable and that's the board I'd like to be running. Any ideas about what's causing all of these combinations from running stable at a stock setting of 2.8GHz?

    I am also having trouble with this on xp pro. When fully installed I get many random errors. New at this but have read that if you install a partition more than 137 gb data corruption may occur. So I partitioned the drive 20, 70, 70, and installed xp pro on the 20 gb partition. Per mb and hdd manuals I installed xp sp1. I am still getting random errors. This is the only hdd. Maxtor 160 gb ata 133 on ide1. Is it impossible to run the system this way? It gives me random crashes and stop requests. It also at one point gave me erros saying the cdrom memory is corrupt. Is the hdd drive sze possibly the problem?

    My problem is since the first time on boot ithe boot screen, BIOS setup, Windows Startup screen and not quite as bad the Windows environment, the display is messed up//in POST it shows as black squares about every 1/2" all over the screen//Windows shows them, only smaller//now because this is happening during POST makes me not beleive it is the drivers//I have DL the latest from ATI//cannot find a firmware upgrade for the card//updated the mobo BIOS to v1.8//tried 2 different OS's//Win98SE & XP Pro//changed and tweaked the settings in BIOS all w/ NO JOY!!!//at this point I am getting a little upset//I really am hoping that I did not get a bum video card//I would have tried another one but I do not have one that will install in the new mobo

    DOS, I did try the memory removal and that did not work.  The sound card is in my signature but is still sitting on the bench waiting installation, so that is not the an issue.  I did, however open my old box and checked it's AGP card and it is a Matrox 400 Dual Head.  I put it in and tested it and it works great, well not great, but it does not have the display issues that the AIW did.  My question is, do you think it is the mobo that cannot support the latest release from ATI?  Or maybe just a bad card?

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R sound settings

    I just got this new board (875P Neo-FIS2R) and I'm mostly happy with it but just realize something...  After installing all provided driver in the box, after running liveupdate3 to make sure all driver are up to date, I got a problem with the onboard sound...  But before stepping to conclusion, I need your opinion/technical knowledge before buying a PCI soundcard like an Audigy...
    First, I cannot find any sound mixer that can allow me to set the bass or treble, adjust the balance etc...(if I look at the windows default mixer, I got bass and treble but they cannot be change)  Yes, I got this little icon from soundmax that allow me to change speaker setting (close together or far appart) and also I can change the environement setting like the sblive! and newer card to give specific ambient context like deep forest or bathroom (btw, for the last one, environnement setting, I can change to anything in the list but I do not hear any change... )  
    Second, for sound quality, I got chop and crop once in a while when I play mp3 or CD music...  Generally, I found the sound to be bizarre...  
    So, maybe it's me, but I really need your opinion on this to figure out if I need to install something else or if it's just a limitaton of the onboard sound...  I know asus P4C800 is also using Soundmax but the use the SoundMax 4XL which come with a great mixer and seems to be more convenient and versatil that the solution provided by MSI on this very high end board...

        For wiring spec and speaker spec, I got a altec lansing sub + 2 satelite... wired with stock cable from altec lansing.  Very common setup...   I dont think that this is the issue...  Before, I had a NFORCE2 chipset with the MCP-T as the southbridge, which had a great onboard sound setup.  Sound was perfect and the mixer, also perfect (perfect for a gamer and mp3 playing)  So, if anyone else confirm that there is no mixer (with bass/treble control), I will have to live with it...  My next question would be: which PCI sound card do you recommend for great quality sound, 5.1,6.1 or 7.1, gaming performance and bug free with the 875P neo FIS2R ??

  • MS 6758 ( 875P Neo FIS2R ) Possible Bios Glitch

    Just got this new board the other day and as most would attest to doing and hour or so after getting it running, I decided to update the bios to the latest version from v1.4 to v1.6.  OK then, no real dramas except for one minor issue.  If I select QUICK BOOT and DISABLE the LOGO screen so as to show the post screen instead, the computer locks up on ASSIGN RESOURCES TO ALL ISA.  If I re-enable the logo screen ie. the MSI logo etc, then it boots fine.  If I disable this logo screen, and also disable quick boot so it does it's full memory check, it boots fine also.
              This only started since flashing the bios to v1.5.  I then flashed to v1.6 and it still did the same thing.  Very weird indeed.  Everything is hunky dory though.  No problems whatsoever.  Just the above small glitch.  It sounds to me like a possible glitch in the bios code to me.  Just curious if other people are having the same problem.  
               It doesn't matter what the other settings are throughout the bios.  The above 2 settings are the only ones I have found that seem to effect this problem.  If anyone else can simulate the same scenario as what I have, then let me know.  It may just me a hardware config issue.  Who knows.  Nothing is OCed.  All stock speeds.  Apart from the memory timings.

    could it be MSI's QC? Seems like people have had alot of mixed success with this board. Some people say it's the greatest since sliced bread some people can't get it to boot. Everyone's system has a different config so it's hard to say but would seem that there's just too many ongoing issues to be a consistant incompatiblity with components used with the board. Chi Pete your sound card, look into one by Philips called Acoustic Edge. I know it's not a SB Audigy but that's the whole point for me, no IEEE 1394 to deal with. Until Creative allows that to be disabled or removes it completely from their cards I'll never buy another one. Anyway the Philips got some pretty good reviews, looks like the software has some interesting control abilities and comes setup like a SB Live, no firewire, no usb, no parallel port just a game port and audio connections. And BTW how does the Cirrus Logic chipset sound? or does your Santa Cruz have a different chipset?

    Like the title says:
    Is the 875P Neo-FIS2R a bad motherboad? I can understand that tis is a place where you will find more problems then anything else. But I mostly see motherboard specific problems, that occur on many mb's of the same type. I find that a bit disturbing...
    A friend of mine never had any troubles with it, then again, he might not tell me, or he is lucky. But based on his 'good' experience I have a 875P lying here right now.
    I cannot use it yet since I am missing a graphic card to go with it, I expect that to arrive next Tuesday. Im a bit nervous now.....
    Another question while I'm at it: will both controllers (the Intel and the Promise) work, or are the mutual exclusive. So I guess I mean is: do I have 3 P-ATA connectors on my mb or either 2 or 1??
    If it is the latter option, that would be lame, then I would have to insert my PCI card with a pomise controller....

    I have to say the 875P is definitely NOT a bad motherboard as long as you have approved components. It works very well for "standard" usage. It has all of the top features from Intel - 875P chipset, 10Gbit CSA, ICH5R, ADI audio, firewire, etc.
    I am concerned with some things MSI could/should have done better in the first place:
    1. Wrong NB temp (and it seems to be affected by NBFAN)
    2. No SFAN speed monitoring though it wouldn't have cost more to put it in ... X(
    3. Slow frequency of BIOS release or update fixes vs other "top tier" motherboard manufacturers
    4. More issues than others with popular memory modules
    5. Confusing or "poorly documented" BIOS features/interface leave tweakers less in control
    6. Corecell, DOT & MAT, BIOS are still a work in progress
    When you start looking for topnotch performance and stability via tweaking OR major overclocking - that is where it falls short - contrary to what their marketing says.
    Read this thread  where an 875P owner compares his new Asus P4C800E Deluxe (after his 875P Neo failed and had to go for RMA). I summarize his "review" here:

    Hey i just  got the 875P Neo-FIS2R, it came with bios 1.2 on it.
    At that point I got everything working nice, INcluding the onboard lan card. I then went to live update bios to 1.6 through windows and I had no problems, but after I restarted my comp. it came back on with out detecting the onboard lan?? It was detected before,but ever since I updated to bios 1.6, it doesn't dectect the lan anymore!!! Anything I can do??

    It could be something simple. Did you check to see if the onboard LAN is Enabled in the Bios?
    I'd check that first!

  • 875P NEO FIS2R repaired

    My board which died with BIOS 1.3 was repaired by the reseller today. I witnessed the process and thought you guys would like to know.
    This guy knew from experience that an 800MHz CPU wouldn't work when trying to get the board back to life again, so first of all he put in a 533MHz CPU (don't know core clock, but doesn't matter I guess)
    Then he took out my 2x512MB samsung PC3200 and put in a single pc2100 module.
    After that he put in this custom (PLC programmer?) card from MSI in a PCI slot and powered up. From the status LEDs on the PLC card he knew it didn't work. Power of and back on: success. Power off and PLC card removed. Power on and boot from floppy to flash BIOS to v1.4. Flash successfull. Power off and power on: dead. Power off, clear CMOS, power on: dead. Power off, remove PC2100 module and insert corsair module (don't know spec, but it had heat-spreader), power on: POST. Entered BIOS and load setup defaults. Reboot: POST. Power off, removed CPU & memory and put my stuff back. Power on: POST.
    System repaired.
    I asked if it is safe to mess with mem timings in BIOS v1.4. He said that it's possible that the board won't POST then, but that can be cured by CMOS clear and when needed only one memory module (no dual channel) to get the board to POST again.
    But I'm not going to try that. SPD is fine for me right now.
    System runs great again.

    I had the exact same problem with my new 875P Neo FIS2R, but after reading the post from Francois I tried my own little test.
    I was upgrading from a 2.26/533 system with 333 memory so, of course, I still had the old CPU and memory.  After being hung on the 'Keyboard Init' step on the D-Bracket after my 1.1 to 1.4 BIOS upgrade I swapped the old CPU and memory onto the board.  Everything worked fine!  I was able to see the 1.4 upgrade took fine.
    Afterwards, I removed the old stuff and put the new stuff back on and it still works.  I have no idea why, just thought I'd share.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R Dead

    Hi,
       I just built a new machine with the 875P Neo-FIS2R, and it was working fine. I read that there were problems with the BIOS V1.3. Of course, I had to update my BIOS. I saw V1.4 was out and figured it was safe and fixed. So I used MSI's LIVE BIOS to flash the BIOS in Windows mode. I have done this before with my other MSI board and had no problems. The flashing process went successful, and asked me to reboot. Then when I did it never came back up. No video or POST beep. I tried switching out memory, clearing the CMOS, and even changing to my older GF3 card. Nothing worked. Can someone tell me what to do? I want my PC to work.... Again.

    I took out the battery and tried but it didn't work. Then I took a stick of pc2100 ddr out of my older machine and put it in, and it booted! Then I swapped out back to my new ddr 400 and it booted! Okay, so now when it boots, it says no BIOS installed and acts like I never had win xp on it. So thats alright, I can reload it, but My Cmos is like it was in 1999. Do I just load the defaults then fix it back to where it was and reload windows? Or do I need to slow down dram timings and reload windows and flash bios back to V1.2?

  • 875P NEO FIS2R board

    I've recently tried to purchase the 875P NEO FIS2R motherboard but when the board arrived it was the FISR version not the FIS2R version which I ordered.  I promptly returned it to the supplier as the FISR is in my opinion a lower specification as it doesn't have the same Raid capability and is not what I ordered.  However, the supplier is telling me that MSI no longer make the FIS2R board and the FISR he supplied is the model that MSI has replaced the FIS2R with.  I find this difficult to believe and suspect the supplier is trying to rip me off.  Can anyone shed any light on this?  When I check the MSI website the FIS2R is still featured but I'm having great difficulty sourcing one.

    This is not true. You can't base your opinions on a board by what you read in a forum. Remember that the majority of people come to a forum because they have a problem. Sometimes it is the board, but as often as not it is because of something else. Most people posting are do it yourselfers and need a forum to learn how things go together and don't go together. Most shops assembling computers have the luxury of spare components for testing and lots of past experience.
    MSI sell millions of boards annually. The forum doesn't get hundreds of thousands of new users, so I think it is more appropriate to say a few people have issues, not many.
