875P Neo-FIS2R sound settings

Hi,
I just got this new board (875P Neo-FIS2R) and I'm mostly happy with it but just realize something... After installing all provided driver in the box, after running liveupdate3 to make sure all driver are up to date, I got a problem with the onboard sound... But before stepping to conclusion, I need your opinion/technical knowledge before buying a PCI soundcard like an Audigy...
First, I cannot find any sound mixer that can allow me to set the bass or treble, adjust the balance etc...(if I look at the windows default mixer, I got bass and treble but they cannot be change) Yes, I got this little icon from soundmax that allow me to change speaker setting (close together or far appart) and also I can change the environement setting like the sblive! and newer card to give specific ambient context like deep forest or bathroom (btw, for the last one, environnement setting, I can change to anything in the list but I do not hear any change... )
Second, for sound quality, I got chop and crop once in a while when I play mp3 or CD music... Generally, I found the sound to be bizarre...
So, maybe it's me, but I really need your opinion on this to figure out if I need to install something else or if it's just a limitaton of the onboard sound... I know asus P4C800 is also using Soundmax but the use the SoundMax 4XL which come with a great mixer and seems to be more convenient and versatil that the solution provided by MSI on this very high end board...

For wiring spec and speaker spec, I got a altec lansing sub + 2 satelite... wired with stock cable from altec lansing. Very common setup... I dont think that this is the issue... Before, I had a NFORCE2 chipset with the MCP-T as the southbridge, which had a great onboard sound setup. Sound was perfect and the mixer, also perfect (perfect for a gamer and mp3 playing) So, if anyone else confirm that there is no mixer (with bass/treble control), I will have to live with it... My next question would be: which PCI sound card do you recommend for great quality sound, 5.1,6.1 or 7.1, gaming performance and bug free with the 875P neo FIS2R ??

Would someone be so kind as to help me set up the following, using W2K as OS on the 875P Neo FIS2R board with P4 3.06 processor 2x512mb ram with a radeon 9700 and onboard sound, all the drivers etc are installed from the CD but am still using bios V1.2, not flashed it yet.......
I want my set up to be the following but I am having problems getting all my drives on the right chipsets.
IDE1= 1x120gb WD drive and 1x60gb drive for storage
IDE2= Sony DVDR
ICH5R to be 2x37gb WD SATA individual drive not raided on ser 1&2
Promise to be 2x37gb WD SATA as raid 0 for my OS
but I cannot work out the Bios settings and how to acheive what I want, assuming it is possible to do it this way.
Yes I know the quantity of drives is OTT but I did a good deal with a local shop in exchange for the 4x37gb SATA HDD's
Please make it simple, it takes ages to sink into my head...

make sure the "AS raid" option is enabled in BIOS under intergrated peripherals then on-chip conf.
that should handel the promise controller.
then you will need to read the manual to manually set each conf listed.
pg 3-24
these settings may do it:
ATA config set to P-ATA+S-ATA
S-ATA set to enable
P-ATA set to yes
P-ATA set to Both
Combined mode depends on where you install OS: suggest SATA
if that, then S-ATA 1st ch.
S-ATA RAID set to no

My problem is since the first time on boot ithe boot screen, BIOS setup, Windows Startup screen and not quite as bad the Windows environment, the display is messed up//in POST it shows as black squares about every 1/2" all over the screen//Windows shows them, only smaller//now because this is happening during POST makes me not beleive it is the drivers//I have DL the latest from ATI//cannot find a firmware upgrade for the card//updated the mobo BIOS to v1.8//tried 2 different OS's//Win98SE & XP Pro//changed and tweaked the settings in BIOS all w/ NO JOY!!!//at this point I am getting a little upset//I really am hoping that I did not get a bum video card//I would have tried another one but I do not have one that will install in the new mobo

DOS, I did try the memory removal and that did not work. The sound card is in my signature but is still sitting on the bench waiting installation, so that is not the an issue. I did, however open my old box and checked it's AGP card and it is a Matrox 400 Dual Head. I put it in and tested it and it works great, well not great, but it does not have the display issues that the AIW did. My question is, do you think it is the mobo that cannot support the latest release from ATI? Or maybe just a bad card?

MS 6758 ( 875P Neo FIS2R ) Possible Bios Glitch

Just got this new board the other day and as most would attest to doing and hour or so after getting it running, I decided to update the bios to the latest version from v1.4 to v1.6. OK then, no real dramas except for one minor issue. If I select QUICK BOOT and DISABLE the LOGO screen so as to show the post screen instead, the computer locks up on ASSIGN RESOURCES TO ALL ISA. If I re-enable the logo screen ie. the MSI logo etc, then it boots fine. If I disable this logo screen, and also disable quick boot so it does it's full memory check, it boots fine also.
This only started since flashing the bios to v1.5. I then flashed to v1.6 and it still did the same thing. Very weird indeed. Everything is hunky dory though. No problems whatsoever. Just the above small glitch. It sounds to me like a possible glitch in the bios code to me. Just curious if other people are having the same problem.
It doesn't matter what the other settings are throughout the bios. The above 2 settings are the only ones I have found that seem to effect this problem. If anyone else can simulate the same scenario as what I have, then let me know. It may just me a hardware config issue. Who knows. Nothing is OCed. All stock speeds. Apart from the memory timings.

could it be MSI's QC? Seems like people have had alot of mixed success with this board. Some people say it's the greatest since sliced bread some people can't get it to boot. Everyone's system has a different config so it's hard to say but would seem that there's just too many ongoing issues to be a consistant incompatiblity with components used with the board. Chi Pete your sound card, look into one by Philips called Acoustic Edge. I know it's not a SB Audigy but that's the whole point for me, no IEEE 1394 to deal with. Until Creative allows that to be disabled or removes it completely from their cards I'll never buy another one. Anyway the Philips got some pretty good reviews, looks like the software has some interesting control abilities and comes setup like a SB Live, no firewire, no usb, no parallel port just a game port and audio connections. And BTW how does the Cirrus Logic chipset sound? or does your Santa Cruz have a different chipset?

New MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R, WinXP BSOD

I just got and installed the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R. I have Libranet linux 2.8.1 which I can boot into (fast as heck too). When I try to boot into window, I get a BSOD with nothing very descriptive in it except to try chkdsk /f. I have tried playing with the various bios settings with no luck. Is this an instance where I need to reinstall XP? :(

Hopefully you DONT have both OS'S on the same partition? Do you. #2 Do you have BIOS option BOOT TO OTHER OS ENABLED? #3 There has been a lot of people having problems with FRESH WINDOWS XP INSTALL and CREATIVE AUDIGY CARDS! If you HAVE REINSTALL WINDOWS XP REMOVE SOUND CARD FIRST!! After you are done PLUG IN CARD, DO NOT USE NEW HARDWARE WIZARD. INSTALL DRIVERS MANUALLY. 875P Neo-FIS2R boot problem

Hello,
Just built a new machine with the following parts. Sometimes it boots fine, but mostly when you turn it on nothing happens, no beeps, no visual, no nothing. Also, once in awhile it takes 15 - 20 seconds before it beeps and visuals come on screen. It's using bios version 1.2 with all default settings by shorting out jumpers. (It gives different voltage settings when reset by jumpers vrs utility.) Once it boots it runs fine, even though memory timings are 2-4-4-6 SPD instead of 2-2-2-6 SPD that my memory modules are suppose to be. However when I manually change to 2-2-2-6 the bios shows that but CPU-Z still shows 2-4-4-6, thats a different story though which a bios update would probally fix. Right now all I want is for it to boot consistently, every time. Ive tried a different power switch and a different power supply. Neither helped and this is driving me crazy, somebody please assist or post any information you might feel would help.

I have /had same problem with Neo 875 and corsair TWINX512-3200LL and bios V1.2 It has something to do with mem settings and/or Vdimm voltage. At this moment it boots fine but I can't explain way. It seems that this kind of memory is very sensitive for the Vdimm voltage. 2.5V is to low and some systems refuse to post. (see the bios 1.4 flash problems) Must user use 2.6v; 2.65v or 2.7v. Check out if you can find a stable setting. Bios v1.2 uses default SPD settings. you can't change them. Although after bios reset (removed battery) I get some different values with cpu-z. 2-2-2-6 I don't understand why I get those values in CPU-Z. I don't believe that my system is running with those settings. I think it's running with default bios 1.2 settings 2,5-4-4-6 but who knows?
A lot of users had dead MOBO's when they flashed to v1.4. The reason isn't found. Some moderators say the didn't wait for the DOS prompt after flashing (Could be) Some users can confirm they did. Maybe it has to do with the corsair memory. If you do a search you will find a lot of usefull information (bios v1.4 and/or MOBO hangs on keyboard initialisation)

875P Neo FiS2R best memory ??

Aside from the list on the MSI web site, what 512MB TWIN DDR memory modules have been tested to be working fine with the 875P Neo FiS2R motherboad ?
Both 400 or also higher for overclocking. Please indicate your findings, thanks.

Even though it's not on the "recommended list," I use the 2x512MB Mushkin Level II Black Label DIMMs, with the Winbond BH5 (??) chips.
My 875P-FIS2R board is stable even overclocked. I run the memory at 2-2-2-6 w/ 8 Burst and DDR Volt at 2.85V. The RAM is good for 2-2-2-5 and works on the board at that setting, but not when I OC past 245FSB (3:2 Ratio) with a 2.4C, so I drop it to 2-2-2-6 and I'm at a happy 3.0GHz with very aggressive timings.
Personally, I wish I could get the same results at 1:1 ratio, but it appears my SB Audigy might be holding me back on that endeavor (I can OC considerably higher just by taking the Audigy out). Anyway, my memory settings always gets me > 1000 on my PCMark2003 Memory score. So I'm happy (for now!!).

875P Neo-FIS2R: Memory stays at 333MHz

I recently assembled a new system with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R motherboard. The specs are as follows: Pentium 4C 3GHz 800MHz FSB, 1GB Samsung PC3500 Cas 2 DDR. The problem is I can't seem to get the memory to run at 400MHz, no matter what BIOS I use. The memory is capable of running at 433MHz with the tightest timings, yet I can't even get it beyond 333MHz. Please help me!

I bought the MSI Neo-FIS2R last weekend, together with a pair of Corsair XMS3500C2 256M memories & a P4 3.0C processor. Darned expensive kit, but I was impressed with all the features on the MSI board, and I decided to go for the performance RAM to squeeze every last drop of performance out. The Cosair modules are supposedly guaranteed to do 434MHz 2-3-3-7-T1.

My board came with 1.1 Bios, and I've flashed to 1.2 Bios.
In my experience over the past week with this board, the Bios is totally hosed. It just doesn\'t do anything. I can get terrific boot screens, 3.6Ghz, 3.8Ghz, but nothing really happens as far as overclock.
And the same thing is true for memory. I can change the memory settings all I want to, and Sandra and Aida give the same results. And, these results are not as good as the reference data for other 875P systems in Sandra and Aida. It appears MSI bios is simply running these Corsairs at Bios default timings 2.5-4-4-8 and nothing I do can change this.
Corecell does produce some overclock changes, but I don\'t like Corecell. Computer bluescreens, have to clear CMOS. Start Corecell again, bluescreen, clear CMOS. Repeat until tired of this.
Nice kit, but way too expensive for the performance I'm getting. Hope they fix it, or this stuff goes back.

Is PXE network booting supported on 875p Neo FIS2R?

Hi all,
I have spent a full day trying to get my computer to boot via PXE from a remote server. My computer is equipped with an MSI 875p Neo FIS2R motherboard.
relevant stats are as follows:
Motherboard: MSI 875p Neo FIS2R
Ethernet Card: Integrated on Motherboard (Intel 82547EI (CSA Interface Gigabit LAN))
The PXE server to which I am trying to connect is running Windows 2000 Server and is configured with Windows Remote Installation Service. The server has been tested with another pxe client (my laptop) and I am able to boot over the network succesfully. It looks like everything is configured properly on the server side.
I am using the msi motherboard's Intel 82547EI integrated ethernet controller when attempting to connect to the server. I do not have another PCI ethernet controller that I can try as an alternative.
I could not find any mention of network booting in the boot sequence section of the BIOS configuration, nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings. I have made sure the integrated ethernet controller is enabled in the BIOS.
I also upgraded the BIOS to the most recent version (2.4) but there is still no sign of any 'network boot' settings in the boot sequence nor anywhere else in the BIOS settings.

Note that BIOS version 2.2 specifically mentions:
"This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
- System cannot login to PXE server without floppy drive installed."
This seems to suggest that the motherboard supports PXE. While I do not have a floppy drive installed on my machine, this BIOS update indicates that a lack of a floppy drive should not pose a problem.
When booting the computer I am presented with a few keystroke options, one of which is to press F12 for a 'Network Boot'. After pressing F12 I receive no indication that the computer is attempting to contact a PXE server and the computer boots into Windows XP as usual.
I have searched the MSI forums and have yet to come across a solution. Signs point to there being PXE support but I must be missing something. Can anyone give me any definitive answers here? Thanks in advance.

I've since been in contact with MSI technical support. Oddly they cannot seem give me a definitive answer on the support of PXE in MSI motherboards so again I'm turning to you guys. I'm really hoping someone out there has some experience with PXE and any sort of MSI motherboard. Surely someone must have run into this issue before. Anyone? Anyone at all?

Dead 875P NEO-FIS2R???

Hello All,
I have been running a 875P NEO-FIS2R board with 3GHz (800FSB) and 1GB (2x512MB Corsair 3200LL TwinX) without issue for the last couple months.
The board was running 1.71 (again for a couple months) Bios. I decided to play with the "Performance Mode" settings. Upon setting this to "Ultra Turbo" the board got stuck rebooting, I eventually had to power it down.
When I tried to start it up again it appeared the card was not getting to the POST (with no display output). The D-LED is showing it is getting stuck at the "Keyboard Initialization".
I have tried clearing the CMOS (several times) with the jumper to no avail.
Tried removing one stick of memory, and then the other with no change as well.
I am wondering if maybe this fried my motherboard, or worse my 3GHz processor! It takes only a few seconds (maybe 5 or so) for the processor to become nearly untouchable.
Something else I noticed is if I boot the system without the supplemental 4-pin CPU power connector, the D-LED reports all 4 LEDs green (but still wont POST or boot). Not sure if this helps point to anything.
My wife has a P4 system as well, however it is a 533FSB, does anybody know if I can put an 800FSB into a 533FSB motherboard (I know the clock will probably not show correctly, but will it work)? I just want to test my processor. I know the 875 can take the 533, but I am afraid it will fry her processor as well (so I am a little reluctant to try it this way around).
How likely is it that my memory got toasted? Anybody know what the D-LED would report if I were to remove all the sticks of memory? Unfortunately I can't test my memory in my wife's motherboard because she has an 850E chipset motherboard running 1066 RAMBUS)

My Man; First you should Have started a NEW Thread, as this one is Almost 1 Year Old ...Now my First question is, What do you Mean you "Erased the BIOS" ?, Do you mean that you "Cleared the BIOS Settings" with the J-BAT1 Jumper? (Because if you "Erased the BIOS, The Board is Now Dead, and you must return it to have the BIOS Reprogramed, Because the 1 Thing about the MSI Boards is the C-MOS Chip is Soldered onto the Board, it is NOT Socketed)....If you Just Cleared the BIOS Settings then we have a Couple of things to try......But Please you wont get anywhere by Trying to BOOT without the CPU , As that is Like trying to Talk to someone without your BRAIN Installed into your Head ....And the ONLY Grease that you Really Should use Between the CPU and the HSF, is a Quality Thermal Compound, that is Made Just for this Purpose, otherwise regular Grease will either Burn (and Dry Out) or, it will NOT Conduct the Proper amount of Heat away from the CPU.......So Please Tell me where you stand on My First Question about the BIOS, as if you Truelly Erased it, then Nothing that I can do Will Help You ...............Sean REILLY875

Problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R when tyring to use x4 Crucial 512MB DDR modules

I have a problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R when tyring to use x4 512MB DDR modules. At first the system seem fine then it just hangs on me. All modules are exactly same and I have tried updating my bios and adjusting the settings but nothing works. My system is fine when using x2 512MB moduels. I have searched the forum and found no clear answer although there are other people with this problem. Please can anyone let me know if there is anything I can do with my current configuration to make the x4 512MB DDR work?
From other posts I have learned so far that I either have to buy Paired modules from the manufacturer (which is no use because I bought my first x2 DDR a year ago) or only use x2 and now Dabs isnt taking the other x2 that I just bought because there is nothing wrong with the modules themselves (its the mobo).
I built my system from scratch and wouldnt have been able to have done it without previous assistance so thanks in advance for any help

Relaxing the timings will enable your RAMs to run at higher latencies so that they do not need to go extra mile to catch up with the transfer rates with the FSB.
Lowering the frequencies is like underclocking a speedy twin turbo to a standard single turbine which means lowering of speed so that the RAMs can run lower than expectations which'll be able to provide room for o/c'ing back near to its original frequency.

Harddrives are only thing I kept from old system; unfortunately, I forgot to delete video drivers before installing in new system. Computer boots starts loading Win XP Pro then screen goes blank, Planar LCD monitor says no signal, so I figure the problem is the the AGP video card since I get this far. Windows won't load in safe mode either, screen just blanks monitor says no signal and it restarts with same results. I have changed BIOS settings to reflect 128 AGP aperture. LED monitor(in back)shows 1, 2 & 4 green and only 3 red. I am afraid to use flash utility to upgrade BIOS. I would prefer to upgrade via LiveUpdate. Help me get into windows via safe mode so I can uninstall old video drivers and install new video drivers.

Sorry,but if I got that right,u got a complete new system except the hdd´s.
But even with a "mobo only" change of ur system u should better make a complete windows new install.

And will it be enough for the Prescott ?(

Prescott will be made on a 0.09u process so it should use less power per MHz, I wouldn't worry about that.
According to what I see it has 6 power regulators which usually means 3 phase.

Is the 875P Neo-FIS2R a bad mb?

Like the title says:
Is the 875P Neo-FIS2R a bad motherboad? I can understand that tis is a place where you will find more problems then anything else. But I mostly see motherboard specific problems, that occur on many mb's of the same type. I find that a bit disturbing...
A friend of mine never had any troubles with it, then again, he might not tell me, or he is lucky. But based on his 'good' experience I have a 875P lying here right now.
I cannot use it yet since I am missing a graphic card to go with it, I expect that to arrive next Tuesday. Im a bit nervous now.....
Another question while I'm at it: will both controllers (the Intel and the Promise) work, or are the mutual exclusive. So I guess I mean is: do I have 3 P-ATA connectors on my mb or either 2 or 1??
If it is the latter option, that would be lame, then I would have to insert my PCI card with a pomise controller....

I have to say the 875P is definitely NOT a bad motherboard as long as you have approved components. It works very well for "standard" usage. It has all of the top features from Intel - 875P chipset, 10Gbit CSA, ICH5R, ADI audio, firewire, etc.
I am concerned with some things MSI could/should have done better in the first place:
1. Wrong NB temp (and it seems to be affected by NBFAN)
2. No SFAN speed monitoring though it wouldn't have cost more to put it in ... X(
3. Slow frequency of BIOS release or update fixes vs other "top tier" motherboard manufacturers
4. More issues than others with popular memory modules
5. Confusing or "poorly documented" BIOS features/interface leave tweakers less in control
6. Corecell, DOT & MAT, BIOS are still a work in progress
When you start looking for topnotch performance and stability via tweaking OR major overclocking - that is where it falls short - contrary to what their marketing says.

- Good HW but FW/SW satsifactory~needs_improvement. :]
- If you don't do major tweaking , and want stability + full features, the 875P is a GOOD board overall, IMHO. 8)

Need help with 875P Neo-FIS2R!! No on board lan??

Hey i just got the 875P Neo-FIS2R, it came with bios 1.2 on it.
At that point I got everything working nice, INcluding the onboard lan card. I then went to live update bios to 1.6 through windows and I had no problems, but after I restarted my comp. it came back on with out detecting the onboard lan?? It was detected before,but ever since I updated to bios 1.6, it doesn't dectect the lan anymore!!! Anything I can do??

It could be something simple. Did you check to see if the onboard LAN is Enabled in the Bios?
I'd check that first!
