875P NEO HIGHest FSB 250??

I have a new 2.4C 800Bus CPU, and well this 875P Neo Doesnt Like to post at anything higher then 250 Bus.. is this a bios issue?I am running the 1.32B Beta Bios, I know the chip will do 290 tested it in my friend ABIT... anyone know of some setting I need to change?

All!
I know some basic things to OC my system but I've got a very simple question:
If I would set the FSB in the bios to 190 for ex., than the system tries to reach the memory at 380 isn't it?
( CPU = FSB x 4
RAM = FSB x 2 ? )
Or does the memory access speed is independent of FSB?
(As far as I remember in the BIOS I can see some "AUTO", "333", "354", ... settings for memory speed. Can somebody give me some explanation of OC at P4 config?)
As you can seen in my signature I've 2 pcs of Kingston HyperX 512 PC3000 (ddr370) modules. The system is working with these. Would it work fine with Kingston HyperX PC3500 module also?  (At Kingston site the HyperX is not recommended for MSI 875p NEO FIS2R.)

  • High FSB's 875P NEO

Whats the highest FSB people have got on the 875P NEO? im stuck at around 260 FSB, im sure the chip will go higher.

I got to 224  (2.4c) with the 1.4 bios, won't go any further at all. No way no how.
Did manage to get it upto 250 with core centre and ran fine for a couple of days, then it crashed and solidly refused to boot into XP ever again.
Booted up in safe mode, removed core centre and all was fine. But now if I even install core centre the machine locks up, crashes and refuses to get to the XP desktop.
Don't know about anyone else but here in the UK we have a little thing called the sale of goods act. I don't think this board was fit for the purpose for which it was sold, namely an overclocking board.
Anyone fancy a class action against MSI?

  • Memory(??) Errors, 875p NEO

    Hello everyone...
im having some strange problems with my computer, im trying to unpack anything bigger (zip, rar etc) and om getting alot of strange error messages, i downloaded the new Commandos 3 demo and tried to unpack it and got some error messages that some of the files coudn't be unpacked, tried with some other things packed in rar that i know that the files are ok but didn't work there either..
tried to run Prime95 test with low memory usage and it seems to run fine...
tried memtest and i belive it popped some errors there too, and tried to run Prime95 Torture test and put it to use the memory alot and it couldn't run the test getting an error message that it's some hardware error...
is there anything i can do to fix it?

Something that is reliable and gives at least 220W combined for 3.3+5V rails ( an doesn\'t just print 220w combined on the sticker either, I can buy tose for 15$ )
If it was a simple timing problem the RAM would be fixed at 333MHz already, if it was an actual bad stick it would probably give errors at any frequency.
a Antec True Power 480W ATX (AMD&P4 OK) are on the way, you think it's enough?
about the memory, 333 didn't work, caused errors in memtest, 266 didn't...

  • Quick 875P NEO question

alright yes im going to sound like a noob when i ask this question, but i dont care cause i wanna get this right...anyways
i have a P4 3.06GHZ 533fsb northwood processor - now, will this work in the  MSI 875P NEO?
i have a 655 MAX now and what a bad egg that turned out to be after all the hype about it, so i decided to take all recent advice, leave SiS and go Intel
the rest of my computer is:
WD 120GB 8MB Special Edition HDD
    ATi Radeon 9700 Pro
    2x256 OCZ pc-3200
    400 watt PSU
i dont think the processor will be a problem, but for some reason i was questioning it, everything else should be fine. thanks for any input, you guys have been a great help through my 1st commputer building experience

i just saw something intersting on the information page for the 875P neo-lsr
    go here : http://www.msicomputer.com/product/detail_spec/product_detail.asp?model=875P_NEO-LSR
now scroll down under main memory and it says "(*In order to use DDR 400, FSB 800 CPU is required)"
why would this be?? i have a p4 3.06 with 533 mhz fsb in my 655 max now and run dual ddr-400, why would it require 800 mhz fsb to use ddr-400 in a newer board? is it something with the chipset?  also if it is not possible for me to use the ddr-400 is already have, can i use it as ddr-333?

  • Where to find M.A.T. in BIOS of a 875P Neo LSR?

    Hi y'all!
    Currently I'm using:
    P4 3.0GHz 800MHz FSB
    2*512MB Kingston HyperX PC3200 CL2
MSI 875P Neo LSR (BIOS v1.6)
    I'm wondering where I can enable P.A.T. or MSI's M.A.T.?
After reading something about BIOS version 1.6 enabling M.A.T. , I flashed from 1.2 to 1.6.
But where can I find this new option in my BIOS??
    Thank's :]
    Best regards,
    Arjan

Okay... Okay... This is generally for MSI, no reason to take offence.. anyone. Or maybe just the guy who never used computer(apparently) but designed BIOS for this board.
I Have NEO FISR2 motherboard, and the problems I have seem to be something like people here have.
PAT isn't enabled if you overclock. What ever you do, Ultra Turbo or turbo.. nothing helps. Is there a reson for this?
If I drop memory to 333 and raise FSB, should the numbers in BIOS at memory speed show what it actually is, never have done so... And if I raise FSB and memory speed is at 400MHz why isn't PAT enabled, memory isn't overclocked?
If I try to change manually setting for memory, like cas etc... Should it do something, or are these there just for fun, so you could IMAGINE the effects on your board.
Almost all memory related settings are in BIOS for some other reason than adjusting setting on this motherboard, they don't affect anything. At least not for me. Maybe I was wrong thinking this board could be user for overclocking, those volt settings propably are there for show too. Nothing to do with overclocking, because you will never get everything out from this board. At least not if BIOS is working like this.
I did simple test, raised volt for memory to 2.90. Whopee. Raised FSB to 230, and left the memory setting at 400MHz. Changed by hand Cas setting to more relaxed ones.
Quess, which changes of these actually did something? FSB and Volts. For some unbelievably stupid reason board changes automatically both CAS(VERY RELAXED) settings and memory setting. Try Sandra, see for yourself.
Please, let me know if I'm doing something wrong, this is new board and new BIOS, maybe I'm missing something...
OR this is the most lamest try I have ever seen to put out decent BIOS. Nothing makes sense, thank you very much for wasting hours and hours of my time while I was trying to figure out why everything didn't work like I expexted, after all, there where so many "pretty buttons to press" that did nothing.
    ARGH! X(

  • For 875P Neo-FISR Sandra reports DIMM 1 "Empty" -- 512 chip not showing up

About 2 months ago, I assembled an 875P Neo-FISR with an Intel P4 3.20E GHz 1MB L2cache and 800 MHz FSB.  I installed 2 Kingston KVR400X64C3A 512MB PC3200 CL3 184 pin DIMMS, one in slot 1 and the other in slot 3 so as to get dual channel mode.  The system reported that I only had 512MB memory.  I tried reseating the DIMMS several times with the same result.  I then moved the two DIMMS to slots 2 and 4, after which the system reported 1GB RAM, and the dual channel mode appeared to be in effect.
Today, I purchased two more identical DIMMS (PC3200 512MB, same mfctr and model #) and inserted them into slots 1 and 3 for a total of 4 512MB DIMMS.  The system reports that I have 1.5MB RAM, and Sandra reports that slot 1 is "empty."
    I'm not happy.
I'm running a new copy of XP Pro, which came with Service Pack 2 installed.  I have a variety of peripherals, WD IDE drives, ATI video card, etc. -- none of which should have anything to do with this.  The original problem appeared at the most basic level of installation.

If the slot was dead two months ago it wouldn't get any better with time.
If you use only slot one does it work?

  • 875p neo doesn't always boot

More often than not if I shut down the pc it will not always turn back on. (it will "click" like it wants to boot but doesn't do anything more than than.. like the power came on for a split second) If I leave the power off a while it usually will boot. Sometimes I have to clear CMOS to get it to boot.
Then sometimes if I shut it down it will immediately reboot instead. Similarly sometimes when I connect power it will boot without me pressing the on switch. And then sometimes it will "click" repeatedly when I connect the power.
Once it's running everything is fine.
Anyone have any ideas what can cause this?

Id deffinately say PSU problem i have an almost exact match to your system, mine is 100% stable (I dont use CoreCenter, Motherboard Monitor and MSI's WMI program give me random reboots) ...i did have to increase my DDR voltage to 2.7v -after flashing to the 1.4 BIOS
    P4 3.0G 800 FSB
    Antec Truepower 330W PSU
    2 * corsair pc3200 256mb ddr
    875p NEO-LSR
    Geforce3 64 (i also use the ASUS 8200)
witchywoman it depends on the max power for each voltage line -not all PSU's give the same even if their rating is equal or above
    http://www6.tomshardware.com/howto/20030609/index.html
I would recomend atleast 450W for a new PSU (to give upgrade potential)

  • Anyone using CORSAIR 3200C2PT with 875P Neo ?

Has anyone been using a pair of CORSAIR TWINX CMX256A-3200C2PT Memory modules with an 875P Neo FiS2R motherboard?
    How they work ?
Did they needed any change in BIOS to work or they were plug in and play ?

What do you exactly mean that CORSAIR does not run in Turbo or Ultra Turbo ? Just this particularly modules I got or NO Corsair whatsoever will be able to perform in Turbo or Ultra Turbo and under no conditions can do any PAT ?

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R File Copy errors loading Win XP Pro

While installing WinXP Pro SP 1 I get file copy failures on random files two or three times during  the install. Retry succeeds on the file, but errors keep coming up after install randomly. Explorer crashes on logon, files are corrupt, etc. Tried two different MBs, two different CPUs, two different PSUs, two different sets of RAM, different IDE cables, booting from both DVD Drives, different Win XP CDs. I also tried the same with a Gigabyte 875 board and had exactly the same problem. With the Gigabyte board, if I ran the bus with a setting of 190 or 195 instead of 200MHz, the system ran fine, but then my 2.8GHz CPU is running at 2.66GHz. I can't go slower than 200MHz (but I did try 201 and 202; same errors) on the Neo-FIS2R so I can't find a setting that is stable and that's the board I'd like to be running. Any ideas about what's causing all of these combinations from running stable at a stock setting of 2.8GHz?
    Thanks.

I am also having trouble with this on xp pro. When fully installed I get many random errors. New at this but have read that if you install a partition more than 137 gb data corruption may occur. So I partitioned the drive 20, 70, 70, and installed xp pro on the 20 gb partition. Per mb and hdd manuals I installed xp sp1. I am still getting random errors. This is the only hdd. Maxtor 160 gb ata 133 on ide1. Is it impossible to run the system this way? It gives me random crashes and stop requests. It also at one point gave me erros saying the cdrom memory is corrupt. Is the hdd drive sze possibly the problem?

You guys are great on the fast responses!
DOS, I did try the memory removal and that did not work.  The sound card is in my signature but is still sitting on the bench waiting installation, so that is not the an issue.  I did, however open my old box and checked it's AGP card and it is a Matrox 400 Dual Head.  I put it in and tested it and it works great, well not great, but it does not have the display issues that the AIW did.  My question is, do you think it is the mobo that cannot support the latest release from ATI?  Or maybe just a bad card?
medafor, I had already tried that as well.  But thanks for the response!

  • [875p Neo FIS2R(PCB 1.0)] BIOS/OS ramtiming problems

First off, hello to you all. This is my first time here since I recently bought an MSI board.
    On too the problem;
I have the following RAM modules http://www.geilusa.com/proddetail.asp?linenumber=26 , and set into the BIOS SPD off and the timings to 3-4-4-8, and the DDR voltage to 2.6.
Everything works okay, except, SiSoft Sandra and CPU-Z say my RAM modules run at CL2.5 instead of the CL3 I configured in the BIOS.
If I turn on SPD, the modules will be configured to CL2.5 and the rest the same timing. Now I can get into this, since I'm basicly are underclocking these modules atm, so SPD might think 2.5 are better setting for running under 400, but still strikes me odd that whatever I set into the BIOS RAM timing, CPU-Z and Sandra report different timing then what I do in the BIOS.
If I calculate it rightly, underclocking these modules on 400MHz instead of 533 will result in 2.5-6-3-3 timings on 400MHz and 3-8-4-4 on 533. The setting 2.5-6-3-3 works aswell and stable, same as 2-6-3-3, since they 3.5ns modules I didn't have any problems with my timings. Except, that sandra/cpu-z just give not the right timings according to my BIOS.
All dynamic overclock settings in BIOS are set to off/slow.
I'm not trying to overclock just yet, although I did some testing, but setting only DDR RAM frequency's to 500-533 will make the system not even start.
With only FSB OC'ing to 230 on a P4 3.2 I can run stable with my system, anything above willl have  odd results, as in, onboard gigabyte network adaptor disappearing, not able to boot from internal promise raid, or core center reporting it doesn't support my mobo!  But, that is my 3.2 GHz CPU that is clocked too high then.
Just want to make sure, that whatever I set into BIOS will carry over to the booted system, before I activly will OC.
    System spec;
    P4 3.2GHz
    4x GL5124200DC (Geil)
    875P Neo FISR2(PCB 1.0) BIOS v2.0

All right, then I probably don't have to worry about that, thank you for clearing that up.
Nevermind the rest of t he text, I found that AGP 3.0 Univeral mode just runs at 1.5v, which both the mobo + card use atm.
    --- obsolete question --
Another question though, it might be related aswell.
I'm using an ATI RADEON 9800XT in this motherboard, that according to ATI will use 0.8volts when in 8x/4x AGP or 1.5 at 4x. Thing is,  CoreCenter still reports the AGP voltage as 1.5 while the card is running on a 8x AGP bus (where it should be 0.8v). Is this another quirk where things are not displayed correctly?
Bit concerned here, because having used this card in a previous board, I notice that in this board that the card outputs a stronger signal to the same monitor, resulting in a brighter display. Meaning black is not real black but more a kind of grey, which might be the result of the card running at too high a voltage in 8x mode.

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R boot problem

    Hello,
Just built a new machine with the following parts. Sometimes it boots fine, but mostly when you turn it on nothing happens, no beeps, no visual, no nothing. Also, once in awhile it takes 15 - 20 seconds before it beeps and visuals come on screen. It's using bios version 1.2 with all default settings by shorting out jumpers. (It gives different voltage settings when reset by jumpers vrs utility.) Once it boots it runs fine, even though memory timings are 2-4-4-6 SPD instead of 2-2-2-6 SPD that my memory modules are suppose to be. However when I manually change to 2-2-2-6 the bios shows that but CPU-Z still shows 2-4-4-6, thats a different story though which a bios update would probally fix. Right now all I want is for it to boot consistently, every time. Ive tried a different power switch and a different power supply. Neither helped and this is driving me crazy, somebody please assist or post any information you might feel would help.

    Hey,
I have /had same problem with Neo 875 and corsair TWINX512-3200LL and bios V1.2 It has something to do with mem settings and/or Vdimm voltage. At this moment it boots fine but I can't explain way. It seems that this kind of memory is very sensitive for the Vdimm voltage. 2.5V is to low and some systems refuse to post. (see the bios 1.4 flash problems) Must user use 2.6v; 2.65v or 2.7v. Check out if you can find a stable setting. Bios v1.2 uses default SPD settings. you can't change them. Although after bios reset (removed battery) I get some different values with cpu-z. 2-2-2-6 I don't understand why I get those values in CPU-Z. I don't believe that my system is running with those settings. I think it's running with default bios 1.2 settings 2,5-4-4-6 but who knows?
A lot of users had dead MOBO's when they flashed to v1.4. The reason isn't found. Some moderators say the didn't wait for the DOS prompt after flashing (Could be) Some users can confirm they did. Maybe it has to do with the corsair memory. If you do a search you will find a lot of usefull information (bios v1.4 and/or MOBO hangs on keyboard initialisation)

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R sound settings

    Hi,
I just got this new board (875P Neo-FIS2R) and I'm mostly happy with it but just realize something...  After installing all provided driver in the box, after running liveupdate3 to make sure all driver are up to date, I got a problem with the onboard sound...  But before stepping to conclusion, I need your opinion/technical knowledge before buying a PCI soundcard like an Audigy...
First, I cannot find any sound mixer that can allow me to set the bass or treble, adjust the balance etc...(if I look at the windows default mixer, I got bass and treble but they cannot be change)  Yes, I got this little icon from soundmax that allow me to change speaker setting (close together or far appart) and also I can change the environement setting like the sblive! and newer card to give specific ambient context like deep forest or bathroom (btw, for the last one, environnement setting, I can change to anything in the list but I do not hear any change... )
Second, for sound quality, I got chop and crop once in a while when I play mp3 or CD music...  Generally, I found the sound to be bizarre...
So, maybe it's me, but I really need your opinion on this to figure out if I need to install something else or if it's just a limitaton of the onboard sound...  I know asus P4C800 is also using Soundmax but the use the SoundMax 4XL which come with a great mixer and seems to be more convenient and versatil that the solution provided by MSI on this very high end board...
Thanks for your cooperation in helping me out...

    Hi,
For wiring spec and speaker spec, I got a altec lansing sub + 2 satelite... wired with stock cable from altec lansing.  Very common setup...   I dont think that this is the issue...  Before, I had a NFORCE2 chipset with the MCP-T as the southbridge, which had a great onboard sound setup.  Sound was perfect and the mixer, also perfect (perfect for a gamer and mp3 playing)  So, if anyone else confirm that there is no mixer (with bass/treble control), I will have to live with it...  My next question would be: which PCI sound card do you recommend for great quality sound, 5.1,6.1 or 7.1, gaming performance and bug free with the 875P neo FIS2R ??

  • 875P Neo-FIS2R: Memory stays at 333MHz

I recently assembled a new system with the MSI 875P Neo-FIS2R motherboard. The specs are as follows: Pentium 4C 3GHz 800MHz FSB, 1GB Samsung PC3500 Cas 2 DDR. The problem is I can't seem to get the memory to run at 400MHz, no matter what BIOS I use. The memory is capable of running at 433MHz with the tightest timings, yet I can't even get it beyond 333MHz. Please help me!

I bought the MSI Neo-FIS2R last weekend, together with a pair of Corsair XMS3500C2 256M memories & a P4 3.0C processor.  Darned expensive kit, but I was impressed with all the features on the MSI board, and I decided to go for the performance RAM to squeeze every last drop of performance out.  The Cosair modules are supposedly guaranteed to do 434MHz 2-3-3-7-T1.

My board came with 1.1 Bios, and I've flashed to 1.2 Bios.
In my experience over the past week with this board, the Bios is totally hosed.  It just doesn\'t do anything.  I can get terrific boot screens, 3.6Ghz, 3.8Ghz, but nothing really happens as far as overclock.
And the same thing is true for memory.  I can change the memory settings all I want to, and Sandra and Aida give the same results.  And, these results are not as good as the reference data for other 875P systems in Sandra and Aida.  It appears MSI bios is simply running these Corsairs at Bios default timings 2.5-4-4-8 and nothing I do can change this.
Corecell does produce some overclock changes, but I don\'t like Corecell.  Computer bluescreens, have to clear CMOS.  Start Corecell again, bluescreen, clear CMOS.  Repeat until tired of this.
Nice kit, but way too expensive for the performance I'm getting.  Hope they fix it, or this stuff goes back.
