[875P Neo Series] CoreCenter and auto-mode
Hi
Every time I restart my computer (windows xp) I need to click on Auto Mode of Core Center to have the fans slow down. Looks like I can't make Corecenter to automatically start in auto-mode.
Does anyone have the same problem? Is there any solution?

Check in BIOS the temp to which the fans are set to increase. If it is low (30-40) increase it to 45-50c.

[875P Neo Series] problems powering up when sata on ich5r is enabled
Hello, there is a problem on my 875 neo fis2r motherboard.
In the "integrated peripherals"-->"on chip ide" section on the bios (v2.4), when i leave the option "sata keep enabled" to yes, i have problems on system power up.
I switch on my computer and there might be half a minute or more until i here the "beep" on the motherboard and boot from my HD.
Could anybody know what is wrong?
Thanks in advance for your help

For that set up, I would recommend trying the following settings:
On Chip Operate Mode: Native
ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
SATA Keep enabled : Yes
PATA Keep enabled : Yes
That's how I set up my old 875P without trouble when I installed a pair of drives in RAID 0. In your sig I don't see two drives, so I'm not sure what else to provide. (whether you are building a new comp or upgrading to RAID 0 etc)
For further reference, have a look at Vango's guide to RAID setup here: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=38845.0 -
[875P Neo Series] trouble shooting assistance
I have a 875p neo with a pentium4 3.2ghz processor...i have a few diff profiles set up for gaming, normal use ect....the system booted up went to my selection screen for profile selection and hung up ...after a few minutes i shut it down and restarted now all i get is all the fans work including my video board ones theD Bracket lights all start as green and none change ....no beeps at all....im suspecting the processor is damaged...i do use a zalman pure copper heat sink for cooling ...other than that im guessing memory or video board...but memory id be supprised both sticks are bad at once and ive tried each seperately...im real supprised this has happened my system for the most part has been trouble free.....im using a gig of 3200 series kingston...a msi video board the 256 meg 5900 model... and a westen digital 80gig hard drive, sony cdrw...any suggestions would be appreciated
thanks in advance...
weezi would not even try to power up the sys untill the psu is in place,if the cpu failed and needs a warranty replacement i dont think you will get any fuss out of intel,BUT you may have other problems looming that may appear at some time or another, lack of AMPERAGE {not voltage} can have a very NEGATIVE affect on the sys as a whole,if it is a mobo failure you should be ok with that also,it just takes a long time during a RMA process since it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete each, mark it up to a learning experence, the PSU {imo} IS the most important piece of hardware that you or anyone will purchase for a computer !

does anyone use the dlink lights at all...and is it a reliable troubleshooting tool
,i donot use it but many here do and find it very usefull. also look here https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=34535.0;all
also the battery can have a bad contact which can cause a no post, also the psu connector pins can become dislodged and push back and cause arching {because of current jumping} that can be harmfull to the pins and sockets.
hope this helps! -

[875P Neo Series] 875P NEO FIS2R - Bootup delay with disk attached to Promise RAID
Hi,
I have a problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R mobo. I just added a 400GB SATA RAID-0 array to the Promise controller and now I get a 50 second bootup delay after the BIOS has run through everything and beeped and before the first WinXP splash screen.
I boot up from a 160GB SATA RAID-0 array on the intel ICH5R controller. Both arrays work fine from within Windows. I have two DVD drives on the ICH5R PATA connection but nothing else on the Promise.
If I disable the Promise controller in BIOS the delay goes away.
I have tried disabling SMART, turning off the quick-boot option with no effect.
When I first installed my system I tested performance with booting from a single SATA drive on ICH5R vs Promise and I noticed the same issue, but didn't care then because I only needed one disk so I just kept Promise disabled in BIOS.
Any ideas how I can get around this?
Regards,
JonathanSorry I have been a away for a few days.
Details requested...

If the Promise controller was out of the picture (Disabled), and you have the SCSI adaptor and its devices setup:
1. What is the adaptor's SCSI ID?
7
Quote
2. List devices, position in the chain and their corresponding SCSI ID's.
#7 Adaptec 2930CU card
#4 Nikon Coolscan LS30 scanner
#3 Umax Astra 1220S scanner
#5 Iomega ZIP 100 drive
Quote
3. What type of terminination are you using?
Adaptec card has auto-termination.
ZIP drive has a termination connector attached.
Quote
4. Are the devices in the chain functioning properly?
Yes.
Quote
I agree that your problem is your SCSI controller. There may not be anything actually wrong with it. The 2930 was an agressive controller card and its BIOS simply may not coexist with your motherboard's BIOS optimally. Even with the BIOS disabled, it may be competing with the motherboard's request for handlers.
You may want to check to see if there is a BIOS update on Adaptec's website. Adaptec usually released 1 or 2 updates for each SCSI generation they produced. It may or may not help but we need to make sure you have the latest BIOS released.
Unfortunately, this card cannot be reflashed.
Quote
At any rate, I think you have found the component which is responsible for the delay. I'm willing to assist in diagnosing the issue but I need you to provide the specific information I'm requesting.
Also, try to do a CTRL-Pause to catch exactly what the BIOS version is and any other information which is showing up with the BIOS disabled. The SCSI adaptor BIOS, in fact, should not be enabled in your SCSI configuration as you have described thus far.
Adaptec AHA 2930CU SCSI BIOS v1.34.1.
There seems to be a difference between BIOS and host adapter BIOS. You always get the BIOS screen, but you can disable the host adapter BIOS if it is not required.
I am pretty sure it is not the SCSI chain that is wonr because the pause happens with nothing connected to the card.

I have just standby to use Standby Mode, having read the recent article on electricity consumption in PCPro magazine (UK). However after the machine comes out of standby, CoreCenter v1.7.3(set to start on boot and run in the system tray) starts giving an alarm (much like a car alarm siren) ; the only way to stop this is to close CoreCenter and then reopen it when it is fine and no longer gives an alarm. I guess it is confused and thinks there is fan failure or something similar. Does anybody have CoreCenter and Standby running together?Ho do I work out what is causing the alarm? I have CoolnQuiet enabled in the BIOS, if I do not run CoreCenter will CoolnQuiet still run and what about control of my Zalman 7000 Processor Fan?
many thanks
PaulQuote from: Tiresmoke on 31-March-05, 00:00:18
Dale the fans will still change speed according to the temps but it will be a smaller change and not as quick. CoreCenter does allow better fan control As does Speedfan, MBM and others. Keep in mind that many of us feel CoreCenter is a real turd and do not run it at all so we know it is not needed. You may like it and as such we won't tell you not to run it. However it does not change the fact that it is not needed to make C&Q work.
I'm seeing very little in the way of fan-control on my system with or without corecenter. Last night the CPU temp went from 25C (as measured by PCWiz2005, which matches what corecenter shows) to 42C under 100% load generated by prime95. Fan speed from 25C to 42C ranged from 2343rpm to 2410rpm. Max rpm on startup is around 3300rpm from memory. Is 42C too cool for the corecell chip to consider ramping up the revs on the fan?
On startup the cpu fan is locked at 3300rpm. I have to run corecenter to get it to drop back to 2300rpm.
I'm not seeing anything like reasonable fan-control on this system. -

BIOS 1.8 for 875P NEO Series
Just curious if anyone has downloaded and successfully flashed their 875P NEO boards to the current BIOS version of 1.8. If so, is your system stable?
Is another BIOS update just around the corner for the 875P or is the 1.8 the latest and greatest BIOS update?
Thanks for any info,Quote
... what did they correct in the 1.93 Beta?
As advised:
875P Neo MS-6758 BIOS V1.9 Beta 3 (1.93) dated 2003/10/02
This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
- update microcodes,
- modify HT support,
- Prescott support,
- fixed ICH5 SATA HDD incompatibilities issue,
- remove chinese language support
The promised DOT option still isn't available in BIOS setup!
Note some of the changes from the previous 1.82 Beta were not put in the 1.80 Release ... so which new fixes go in the final release (and when) is still uncertain. -
[875P Neo Series] To Upgrade or not??
I have a 875P neo-LSR 6758, Im trying to decide what I should upgrade too? This is what I have P4 2.6, 160gig/ 512Mb 333mhz memory single dimm, with a spectrum 7f Geforce MX440, I want to use this with a 2O or 24inch monitor in my room as a media center p/c. I want it to be capable to gaming, surfing, some small video editing of Family vids and tv recording once or twice a week ( history channel) and just be a all around very capable computer. Im thinking of going to a 3.2 extreme 478 pin, 2Gb (2dimms) of RAM, add 2 more hard drives probably 250's and a all in wonder xt800 card AGp of course b/c of mother Board. All this will equal to about 900-1000$. Should I put this into this mother board??? I believe everything will work and I can latter switch to a pci compatible board and new processor the transfer everything else over. Will take any info you guys want to dish out. Todd

Two generations? I thought its last generation, I mean the S775 9xx boards are the latest generation, right?
I think he might be right about the Two generations thing.
Next Gen = 975X (Can't Wait!!! )
Current Gen = 945 & 955 (These mobos support Dual Core)
Last Gen = 915 & 925 (True DDR2 came into play w/ these mobos)
Two Gen = 865 & 875 (These boards support DDR400 & 8X AGP + SATA) -

[875P Neo Series] 875P Neo P MS-6758(V2.X) PAT Function!
When I Use four Kingston DDR400 memories on the four slots,as though in BIOS I set Performace mode in Turbo(MAT or PAT),the PAT function can't be opened !
the following is my result from CPU-Z
but when just use two 512Mb kingston memories put in slot1 and slot3,The PAT enabled

How can they cheat the customers!
Who is "they"?
Read P4 Neo Unofficial Guide. PAT is explained there. You will see that PAT is not a performance feature that is turned on, it is a feature that allows your memory to function properly at 800 FSB that is turned off.
Have you attempted any benchmarking with software you actually use to determine whether your performance has actually dropped? -
Canon Rebel T3 EOS Flash and Auto Mode Problems: Help Me!
I recently got a job as a photographer for the nightlife in my city. I went out and tried to shoot the other night. My camera isn't broken, but I had it in auto (green rectangle) and when I'd hit the shutter button, it would just flash, looking like it was having a seizure, and not take the picture. It eventually took the photos, but it flashed in their faces like 3 times before it actually took the photo. People cursed me out and it was awful. Why won't my camera just take the picture the first time??? Why does it say it's "busy" and how do I know when to take the photo to avoid pissing people off? Also, when I went to the "no flash" seting, it took the picture with no problem, but I absolutely NEED the flash to work. Please help me!
Bob has nailed it.... when auto-focus is enabled and the camera is using "One Shot" mode (the default focus mode), the camera will NOT take a photo until it can confirm that it was able to lock focus. To help the camera focus, it will attempt to use the pop-up flash and strobe it very quickly to create something which is more-or-less about 1 seconds worth of continuous light. You'll want an external speedlite flash for two reasons... 1) Several external flash models include a "focus-assist" beam.2) The external speedlite models are significantly more powerful than the built-in pop-up flash and can handle subjects at much greater distances. Normally I'd suggest a Canon Speedlite 430EX II... but Canon recently announced it replacement will be available in mid-septermber. The 430EX III-RT ... and it's the same price (the new model has a radio receiver and can triggered via radio instead of optical (optical triggers require line-of-sight... radio does not.) I'd much rather have the radio-eqiupped version. The focus-assist beam in the flash illuminates a red-pattern momentarily while the camera is focusing. This beam allows the camera to focus even in total darkness. It doesn't have to pulse the flash to work as a modeling light to achieve focus (it's actually much better than the 1-second long burst of light.)

[875P Neo Series] SATA help for 875 Neo FIS2R
Hi,
I am hoping someone can help me. I am trying to install an Hitachi SATA HDD (Deskstar 7K250) to the system listed below. I tried to install the drive on SER1 but when I tried to install the installed the Intel IAA driver it said “no compatible hardware found”. I then tried to install the drive on SER3. I installed the SATA 378 driver, which asked me to restart my computer. I shut down, connected the SATA to SER3, and turned on the system. All seemed fine. I went into disk manager to initialize and format and that’s when the system restarted itself. When it restarted it said “error loading OS”. I restarted the system and opened the BIOS. Under the boot from section I noticed the C: drive that XP is on the name was “Maxtor” to something like “Maitorllll?????” I tried to repair windows to with the SATA drive still attached and the system started fine until just before the desktop would appear when the system restarted. I unplugged the SATA HDD and then had to repair windows again to get the system working.
Does anyone know what’s going on?????????
Here is my BIOS setup:
Integrated peripherals:
USB Controller – enabled
USB Legacy – disabled
On-board Chip IDE – Native mode
P-ATA Only
SATA keep enabled - Yes
PATA keep enabled – No
PATA channel – Both
Combined mode – PATA 1st channel
SATA ports – PO-1st/Pi- 2nd
Configure RAID – no
CSA Gigibit – auto
Onboard 1394 – enabled
Promise – as SATA
AC’97 – auto
CD151OK, Not sure the state of everything now but this may help:
1- You don't need the IAA driver unless you enable the Intel controller "as Raid" in the Bios. It senses this and that's why it says "no compatible hardware" If the SATA ports are enabled in the Bios(your settings indicate they are) then you just need to format/initialize it like any other drive.
2- You indicate you have "PATA Keep Enabled" set to no. This should be set to yes for your IDE1 & IDE2 devices to work. The other settings on this menu look OK
3- The "Promise As SATA" should be changed to "Disabled" if you have nothing on Serial 3&4
It would help to know where the OS is installed. It sounds like it's on the IDE1 port(Maxtor).
I think you should should start by:
- temporarily disconnect the extra drive controller card
- check all the remaining drive power/data connections and reconnect the new drive to serial2
- re-enable the "PATA keep enabled" to "Yes"
- Set Promise Controller to "disabled" if nothing on it now.
- Look for a Bios setting called "Clear NVRAM" and set "yes" (It will reset to "No" after the next reboot which is what you want)
- Save Bios and reboot but re-enter Bios immediately.
- Check the "select boot order" menu and make sure the drive with the OS is before any other HDD's
- Save and reboot.
Hopefully if the OS is still intact, you'll be in it again and can use Windows drive manager to see, format and initialize the new SATA drive. Again, you only need IAA if you are using the Intel Raid controller. Also keep in mind that the SATA drive might bump all your other drive letters (from the Adaptec card) up by one so if this is a concern, just get the OS up and running then re-attach the Adaptec card and finally the new SATA drive.
Hope it works out! -
[875P Neo Series] lost DVDrom
Could anyone help me with the settings for the "on-chip IDE Settings"?
I have 2 maxtor 160g SATA drives (no set up in an array) and a MSI DVD writer (DR16-B2) conected to the primary IDE channel.
The dvd rom is not seen by the system (windows XP sp2) or listed in the bios settings "standard Cmos settings"
MSI 6758 (875-P series)
2*512 DDR 400 (generic)
2*Maxtor 160gig SATA hd
MSI DR16-B2 DVD writerIn bios under Integrated Peripherals, On Chip ATA Operating Mode set
Native Mode
ATA Configuration - PATA only
SATA Keep enabled - yes
PATA Keep enabled - yes
PATA channel selection - both
If this doesn't let you boot, change to
ATA Configuration - SATA only
After making/saving these changes you should go back into the bios on the first reboot and make sure the right boot drive is selected. -
Help with Fan Speed/Temperature Monitoring - 875P Neo Series 2.0
Hi
My mobo manual doesn't explain the monitoring facilities available on this board and I would like confirmation of the following:
My P4 Northwood CPU Fan as supplied with P4 is connected to CFAN1 and provides monitoring of temperature and fan speed and also permits fan speed control.
My Northbridge Fan as supplied with mobo is connected to NBFAN1 and provides monitoring and control of fan speed. No temperature monitoring available.
My mobo provides monitoring of system temperature but doesn't say how this is measured and at what location.
There are two other 3-pin fan headers on the mobo; one is labelled SFAN1 with Gnd, +12V and the third pin NC and the other is labelled PFAN1 with Gnd, +12V and Sensor pins.
My new Antec 500W SmartPower 2.0 PSU has a monitoring cable that is wired with a black Gnd wire and a blue Sensor wire and, according to the Antec manual, is supposed to provide fan speed monitoring if connected to PFAN1 - I have tried this and get no information showing in either SpeedFan or Sandra. ???
My new Case fan, an Antec SmartCool, also has a monitoring cable but only has the third pin wired, presumably a sensor wire, and presumably could also be attached to PFAN1 instead of the PSU signal connector to provide fan speed monitoring. ??? Obviously I cannot connect both the PSU and Case Fan sensor cables to the mobo because the SFAN1 connection has no sensor pin connected; I presume this one is just a power supply to a fan as an alternative to using a supply line direct from the PSU.
Can anyone advise me on the correct use of the PFAN1 and SFAN1 connectors and what they are capable of.- System temperature is measured at the Winbond W83627HF sensor chip located in front of your PCI slots.
- PFAN1 does indeed monitor PSU fan speed if the PSU has a fan speed reporting header. Not supported by some monitoring software (if Speedfan can't detect it, it doesn't support it. At least not until Alfredo's next revision).
- SFAN1 provides power only, no monitoring.
- Try a different monitoring software and see if it can detect the sensor monitoring your PFAN1. There are other monitoring software out there you can try, such as the CoreCenter that came with your motherboard, or Motherboard Monitor 5 or PCWizard (though you cannot adjust fan RPM through those programs).
