875P Neo versus 865 series m/b

Hi
I am running the MSI875P Neo FIS2R m/b and apart from a few problems like the HDD LED, I am fairly happy with the board but I was just wondering what board from the 865 series of m/b's is, apart from the chipset, identical in features and has the HDD LED owrking with S-ATA drives?
I really miss the HD LED not working and wonder if anyone can recommend a board from the 865 series which, (apart from the chipset), is identical in features and performance and will work with the 'spec' shown in my signature and also one on which the hard drive LED works with S-ATA drives?  
Exact model please so that I check the 'spec' on the MSI website, and preferably one which I can buy in the UK.

Thanks Sean for putting me straight.
I always thought 875's were specially selected 865 chips, but it is infact the reverse. 865 is an 875 that doesn't necessarily meet all 875 parameters. Of course as we all know (Barton 2500+, P4 2.4C) this may be true in the early stages of a chips development, but as process refinements are made and production volumes increase, these selections go out of the window. So all of you 865 guys most probably have 875 capable chips anyway (more than likely why MSI can now offer MAT on 865 board!!!)
Ok, so at least my faith in MSI design process is restored, but I still like the bamboo idea!!!
I would guess that this should lead us to conclude that we should always recommend 865 variants over 875 to anyone asking. Like Brave01Heart did waaaaay back at the start of this thread.

  • [875P Neo Series] trouble shooting assistance

    I have a 875p neo with a pentium4 3.2ghz processor...i have a few diff profiles set up for gaming, normal use ect....the system booted up went to my selection screen for profile selection and hung up ...after a few minutes i shut it down and restarted now all i get is all the fans work including my video board ones theD Bracket lights all start as green and none change ....no beeps at all....im suspecting the processor is damaged...i do use a zalman pure copper heat sink for cooling ...other than that im guessing memory or video board...but memory id be supprised both sticks are bad at once and ive tried each seperately...im real supprised this has happened my system for the most part has been trouble free.....im using a gig of 3200 series kingston...a msi video board the 256 meg 5900 model... and a westen digital 80gig hard drive, sony cdrw...any suggestions would be appreciated

    i would not even try to power up the sys untill the psu is in place,if the cpu failed and needs a warranty replacement i dont think you will get any fuss out of intel,BUT you may have other problems looming that may appear at some time or another,lack of AMPERAGE {not voltage} can have a very  NEGATIVE affect on the sys as a whole,if it is a mobo failure you should be ok with that also,it just takes a long time during a RMA process since it usually takes 4 to 6 weeks to complete each,mark it up to a learning experence,the PSU {imo} IS the most important piece of hardware that you or anyone will purchase for a computer !

    also the battery can have a bad contact which can cause a no post,also the psu connector pins can become dislodged and push back and cause arching {because of current jumping} that can be harmfull to the pins and sockets.

    -Motherboard type and model (MSI 875P NEO-FISR)

    -CPU type and model (3,2 P4 HT)

    -Video card name and model plus drivers and version (ATI AX800 PRO)

    the short version:
    the mobo went unstable and started hanging when playing 3D aplications like medal of honour, wolfenstein ET and others...
    then the hangs started occuring more rapidly, and now the pc starts VERY randomly
    i often have to try to start it 10-15 times before it starts....
    the chipset and cpu fan starts, the hd drives starts and the ROM starts, but no signal to vga card.
    i have tried to reset chmos, changed vga card, stripped the pc, but nothing works..
    and: it has worked for over 7 months without any probs...
    is it possible a virus did this ??
    can anybody help ???

    350 watts is far to low for your system............
    Min AMPS on +12V rail for your system should 24AMPS
    Q-Tec do not have good rep and have caused at lot of problems
    Try a brand name 450+Watt PSU Enermax or Antec or Hiper series (These I have personally tested)

  • [875P Neo Series] problems powering up when sata on ich5r is enabled

    Hello, there is a problem on my 875 neo fis2r motherboard.
    In the "integrated peripherals"-->"on chip ide" section on the bios (v2.4), when i leave the option "sata keep enabled" to yes, i have problems on system power up.
    I switch on my computer and there might be half a minute or more until i here the "beep" on the motherboard and boot from my HD.
    Could anybody know what is wrong?

    For that set up, I would recommend trying the following settings:
    On Chip Operate Mode:  Native
    ATA Configuration: S-ATA Only
    SATA Keep enabled : Yes
    PATA Keep enabled : Yes
    That's how I set up my old 875P without trouble when I installed a pair of drives in RAID 0.  In your sig I don't see two drives, so I'm not sure what else to provide. (whether you are building a new comp or upgrading to RAID 0 etc)

  • MSI 875P NEO LSR versus Corsair TWINX

    HI,
    I'm about to purchase the following parts:
    Mainboard: MSI 875P NEO LSR
    Memory: 2 sets of Corsair TWINX 1024PC3200LL (2*512MB).
    Is this mainboard capable of handeling 4 modules of the above memory?
    I've also seen modules from GeIL, are they any good?
    The module i've seen are: GeIL PC3200 Ultra.
    I want to run my memory at the following timings: 2-2-2-5T
    I believe Corsair is capable of that, but I'm not 100% sure if GeIL is. Atleast my retailer told me so.......
    Can you please help me on this one? ;(

    But do you know if the MSI 865 or 875 mainboard can handle Corsair TWINX 1024PC3200LL (2*512MB)? Because it's not mentioned in the memory.pdf file.......

  • [875P Neo Series] To Upgrade or not??

    I have a 875P neo-LSR 6758, Im trying to decide what I should upgrade too? This is what I have P4 2.6, 160gig/ 512Mb 333mhz memory single dimm, with a spectrum 7f Geforce MX440, I want to use this with a 2O or 24inch monitor in my room as a media center p/c. I want it to be capable to gaming, surfing, some small video editing of Family vids and tv recording once or twice a week ( history channel) and just be a all around very capable computer. Im thinking of going to a 3.2 extreme 478 pin,  2Gb (2dimms) of RAM, add  2 more hard drives probably 250's and a all in wonder xt800 card AGp of course b/c of mother Board. All this will equal to about 900-1000$. Should I put this into this mother board??? I believe everything will work and I can latter switch to a pci compatible board and new processor the transfer everything else over.Will take any info you guys want to dish out. Todd

  • [875P Neo Series] 875P NEO FIS2R - Bootup delay with disk attached to Promise RAID

    Hi,
    I have a problem with my 875P NEO FIS2R mobo. I just added a 400GB SATA RAID-0 array to the Promise controller and now I get a 50 second bootup delay after the BIOS has run through everything and beeped and before the first WinXP splash screen.
    I boot up from a 160GB SATA RAID-0 array on the intel ICH5R controller. Both arrays work fine from within Windows. I have two DVD drives on the ICH5R PATA connection but nothing else on the Promise.
    If I disable the Promise controller in BIOS the delay goes away.
    I have tried disabling SMART, turning off the quick-boot option with no effect.
    When I first installed my system I tested performance with booting from a single SATA drive on ICH5R vs Promise and I noticed the same issue, but didn't care then because I only needed one disk so I just kept Promise disabled in BIOS.
    Any ideas how I can get around this?

The 2930 was an agressive controller card and its BIOS simply may not coexist with your motherboard's BIOS optimally. Even with the BIOS disabled, it may be competing with the motherboard's request for handlers.
    You may want to check to see if there is a BIOS update on Adaptec's website. Adaptec usually released 1 or 2 updates for each SCSI generation they produced. It may or may not help but we need to make sure you have the latest BIOS released.

    There seems to be a difference between BIOS and host adapter BIOS. You always get the BIOS screen, but you can disable the host adapter BIOS if it is not required.
    I am pretty sure it is not the SCSI chain that is wonr because the pause happens with nothing connected to the card.

  • [875P Neo Series] MSI 875P Neo-FISR adn ECC registered DIMMS

    I have purchased the MSI 875P Neo-FISR (PCB 2.0) and installed a 512MB DDR333, PC2700, CL2.5, ECC registered dimm (HYS72D64300GBR-6-C) but the system won't boot up.  I have a Intel Pentium 4 3 GHZ CPU, 512K cache, 800 MHZ bus installed.  When I install a 512MB PC2100 unregistered the system works OK, but not with the registered ECC registered DIMM.  In the manual it is quoted as saying it supports this type of memory.  I have updated the BIOS to the latest version from the MSI website. Any ideas ????

  • BIOS 1.8 for 875P NEO Series

    Just curious if anyone has downloaded and successfully flashed their 875P NEO boards to the current BIOS version of 1.8. If so, is your system stable?
    Is another BIOS update just around the corner for the 875P or is the 1.8 the latest and greatest BIOS update?

    This BIOS fixes the following problems of the previous version:
    - update microcodes,
    - modify HT support,
    - Prescott support,
    - fixed ICH5 SATA HDD incompatibilities issue,
    - remove chinese language support
    The promised DOT option still isn't available in BIOS setup!
    Note some of the changes from the previous 1.82 Beta were not put in the 1.80 Release ... so which new fixes go in the final release (and when) is still uncertain.

    i have a 875P Neo Fis2r..
    i have 1 drive on Ser1 and Ser2, but im trying to install my 3 to ser3.. But bio is not detecting it.

  • 875P neos fis2r IDE 3 Question

    I have a raid 0 setup on the promise  SER3 and SER4 connectors=sata
    I also have a normal IDE 80 gig that I use for internal music and such. It is alone, no slave with it.
    It was connected to IDE1, but it is soo crammed in there that I decided to move i down below by the SER 3 and SER 4.
    My cdrom and dvd are master slave on IDE2.
    So, when I boot up, my 80 gig on IDE3 is not detected, nor shows up in disk manager.
    How to get it to "notice" it?
    I also have an external esata 500 gig on ser1.
    Any Suggestions?

    the mobo 875p neo fis2r has 3 ides. 1 and 2 are next to eachother, then the floppy A next to those.
    side by side. IDE 3 is down below-(yellow) next to ser3 ser 4 1st generation sata connetors.
    I Have cdrom/dvd as /master slave on IDE1,
    I moved my 80 gig-xtra drive to IDE 3.-because it was a crammed fir in IDE2.
    my OS is setup on c drive raid 0 with 2x150 gigs via the ser3and ser4 mentioned above.

    to clarify my whole system.
    my os is on raid0 on the connectors below the yellow. I have one esata 500 gig connected to the bottom orange, ABOVE the yellow. the other one is unoccupied.
    I switched an internal HD from IDE2, to IDE3 (yellow above)-and I cannot get it detected for some reason. I do not know if it is a bios config or not, I go in there,look for 2 secs, and wanna runaway crying to my mommy.

    Great DOT improvement of Bios 3.6O for 865PE Neo-2 P series.

    The DOT is kind like straight forward approach by reaching the preset DOT on the bios after booting and during aplication for less then 2 second, the old bios is gradually increasing almost 1 minute or more.
    Also the FSB reading on CC is function well not randomly change as on the last Bios.
    The Autooverclocking value using CC if not change by default is always shown the maximum FSB.
    The weaknesess is still the default value using 'save' on CC  that not performing well (its better to have user define FSB value) and also the DOT range could be much higher then the Commander so I can set certain FSB value to max FSB value. (Waiting for the next improvement from the MSI Software Team).
    It will work fine for anybody who use FSB:DRAM Feq. = 1:1 using DDR greater then 400
    Interesting thing about this DOT method is it always back on the lowest FSB during stand-by, for me its great hardware saving (It will be great if the FSB stays on the user define setting).
    Regarding the CPU temperatue is a little bit lower compared with the 865PE Neo-2 S series using the same Heat sink type.
    Its worth to try except it cannot reach the maximum OCing due to the DOT rank limitation.

    What bios version do you used ? is already version 3.6
    If you are using Bios 3.60 try to run PC mark 2002 or other benching software (if you have it), you will note that when the benchmark starting the FSB will raise and then after you stop it in the middle or end the FSB will go back to the lowest FSB (Do it by showing the CC beside the PC mark.

  • 875P Neo FIS2R drive& bios settings help!!

    Greetings guys.
    Newbie here?
    Would someone be so kind as to help me set up the following, using W2K as OS on the 875P Neo FIS2R board with P4 3.06 processor 2x512mb ram with a radeon 9700 and onboard sound, all the drivers etc are installed from the CD but am still using bios V1.2, not flashed it yet.......
    I want my set up to be the following but I am having problems getting all my drives on the right chipsets.
    IDE1= 1x120gb WD drive and 1x60gb drive for storage
    IDE2= Sony DVDR
    ICH5R to be 2x37gb WD SATA individual drive not raided on ser 1&2
    Promise to be 2x37gb WD SATA as raid 0 for my OS
    but I cannot work out the Bios settings and how to acheive what I want, assuming it is possible to do it this way.
    Yes I know the quantity of drives is OTT but I did a good deal with a local shop in exchange for the 4x37gb SATA HDD's
    Please make it simple, it takes ages to sink into my head...

    make sure the "AS raid" option is enabled in BIOS under intergrated peripherals then on-chip conf.
    that should handel the promise controller.
    then you will need to read the manual to manually set each conf listed.
    pg 3-24
    these settings may do it:
    ATA config set to P-ATA+S-ATA
    S-ATA set to enable
    P-ATA set to yes
    P-ATA set to Both
    Combined mode depends on where you install OS: suggest SATA
    if that, then S-ATA 1st ch.
    S-ATA RAID set to no
    try this,let me know

    Has anyone tried (I should say needed to try) the BIOS recovery feature for this board?
    I've probably flashed my motherboard 10-15 times this week trying different settings and combos.  I got my new Kingston HyperX 3500 1GB Dual DDR434 kit and started re-tweaking my machine.  Finally after using 1.74 for two days, it just would fail to boot.  Powers up, but no POST.  Resetting CMOS, and all other tricks failed.  I even tried putting back in my Samsung CAS-3 memory to see if it would boot up.  No go.
    I tried the BIOS recovery procedure as follows.  Rename your bios to AMIBOOT.ROM and put on a disk.  Hold CTRL-HOME to force the flash.  Well I tried this about 20 times, using different floppies, drives, and cables until I was ready to throw the board in the recycle bin.  
    I decided that I would give it one last try about 2am this morning.  I tried using the 1.74 BIOS as the recovery ROM, instead of the BIOS I wanted to replace it with.  Worked like a charm.  I don't know if the bootblock of the BIOS is different or what, but maybe it will help others unfortunate enough to suffer the same tragedy and kill their 875P Neo.
    I am back up and running with v1.5 which seems most stable to me versus the other revs and I've tried them all three times or more (1.0, 1.1, 1.2, 1.32b, 1.4, 1.5, 1.6, 1.74b).  And although I am not able to eek out any more mhz from the box, I can run tighter timings and the system gaining about 400 points in 3dMark2001.  And it DEFINITELY seems more stable than ever.  But I'm sure it's just my imagination  :P

    Yeah ive been considering going back to 1.5 to get rid of the crappy performance option (unstable overclock on the AGP/PCI and graphics card)
    Does 1.5 enable PAT? ...i never managed to test this myself (Its the only option i need from performance modes)
    I havent had the pleasure of the recovery mode yet (touch wood) ...and good job on making it back!!  :D
