8800 Ultra Resolution Problem with Acer AL2616W
Hey guys,
I'm not entirely sure if this is an nvidia or MSI issue but I wanted to post to see if anybody had any info on it. I have a nice new 8800 Ultra that kicks butt, and I've been using an Acer AL2416W(24in.) on it without any problems. But just today my new Acer AL2616W(26in) arrived and when I hooked it up I noticed the rez will only get as high as 1440x900. The native rez is 1920x1200 but I can't get anywhere near that without the monitor freaking out. I'm trying to set them up as dual monitor but that 26 in will not get any higher than 1440x900. I installed the latest Acer driver for it as well as tried using the driver for the 24in model. but i didn't fair any better.
My System
MSI P6 Diamond MB
MSI 8800 Ultra
Acer AL2616W(26in)
Acer AL2416W(24in)
2 GB's Corsair XMS RAM
Windows Vista 64bit
Thanks

Make sure your refresh rate stays at 60Hz on the 26incher.
what else could he have done...
Try to swap out the ports between the one that occupies the DVI connector for the AL2416W and the one for AL2616W.
See if that makes any difference at all.
Swap the cables between the monitors too to see if your 24incher freaks out like its bigger brother.
I hope that helps...

Resolution problems with Acer aspire 5520
Hello,
I'm having trouble making both tty and Xorg resolution be native. I have an nVidia 7000M gpu. With nouveau drivers I managed to get KMS working, but realized Xorg resolution is wrong. If I set the right resolution with xrandr the problem with tiling WMs similar to what I explained in this thread. What is different is mouse can go to the blank part and still be visible, floating windows could be placed in the blank area or resized to full screen, but WM won't ever place windows there. Some tiling WMs are able to utilize the full width of the screen. WMs that do not work like this are dwm, wmii and musca.
Dwm has problems displaying conky in its bar (cuts of a lot of output). This made me think the problem is not the resolution/driver and, dwm being my favourite WM, helped hiding the problem.
Wmii utilises the whole screen after change of resolution, but leaves an unmovable vertical line where right edge of a window used to be prior to resolution change.
Musca just works, but could take some getting used to.
All floating WMs work perfectly.
Then I tried nVidia closed source drivers, which worked perfectly in Xorg. The problem was no KMS. I installed and enabled uvesafb, but it did not change the maximum tty resolution from 1024x768.
The WMs I tried:
dwm
fluxbox
i3
musca
snapwm
spectrwmsubtle
A lot of others I either did not like, or they required some configuration to even start
What I tried to fix the problem: various xrandr options (with nouveau), various kernel command line options (with nvidia) and what was mentioned in arch wiki about screen xorg configuration. Nothing I did to "/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-screen.conf" had any effect so I just deleted the file to ease switching between nouveau and nvidia.
As to which driver I intend to use... I don't care as long as it can display everything correctly.
P.S.
/etc/modprobe.d/uvesafb.conf has only one lien
options uvesafb mode_option=1280x800-32 scroll=ywrap
cat /sys/bus/platform/drivers/uvesafb/uvesafb.0/vbe_modes
says top resolution is 1024x768.
EDIT:
Just now I've tried every tiling WM I could find, and the ones working are echinus, musca and qtile.

Resolution problem with GF4 Ti4200-TD 128MB DDR
I am having problems when I switch my display resolution to 640x480x32.
It also affects any application which runs in the affected resolution.
I tried re-installing the VGA card in its AGP slot and its drivers after removing my previous VGA card and its drivers.
The driver that i am using for the MSI VGA card, which is 4.13.2890, is already updated via LiveUpdate, which is now 4.1.3.3000
My system consists of:
AOpen AX34 Pro Motherboard
AGP 2X / 4X
Intel Pentium III 800MHz
512MB RAM
Direct X 8.1
Windows Me
Looking forward to you reply. Thank you for your help.izel,
Get the latest Via 4in1 Drivers and try running the Card in AGP 2X. Do not expect much from the Via Apollo Pro 133 Chipset. Lots of problems with the GART.
Take Care,

Xorg nvidia resolution problems with KDE
I just installed Arch 2008.04-RC last night. I configured xorg.conf using nvidia with the screen resolution set to "1440x900" which worked in both the X Windows and KDE 3.5.9.
I was trying to get xine working with Amarok. At one point, I deleted ~/.xine and xinirtc to force itself to reset. I then rebooted at which point I noticed the resolution set only at "640x400" in KDE. I checked the Display Settings and that was the maximum resolution I could choose. I then switched to the vesa drivers which allowed a maximum resolution of "1024x768".
I removed xorg and nvidia and reinstalled. I can no longer get a resolution of "1440x900" resolution for my Viewsonic VA1926v flat screen monitor. I read on the xorg log that
I am using the Nvidia GeForce 7300 GT video graphics card. uname -r: 2.6.25-ARCH
From /var/log/Xorg.0.log I get the following information when I am using vesa:

(II) VESA(0): Generic Monitor: Using hsync range of 30.00-82.00 kHz

With nvidia, it just states that no mode is available for '1440x900' and selects virtual size of '640x400'.

I am at a loss at trying to fix this one. Something similar happened when I was running Gentoo on this same desktop back in April. I also have the same low resolution problem when using Sabayon.
Any help here would be much appreciated :-)I thought these frequencies were a bit low too. My manual said there were the frequencies. I checked online and it said the same. I need to do more research on it.
I did manage to get my 1440x900 resolution back using the open source nv drivers. I had to do the same with Gentoo and Linux Mint in the past. Everytime I used the nvidia drivers, my monitor returns to the 640x400 resolution and I noticed the only way to avoid it was to use nv. I do not play games online or use Compiz so it does not bother me.
Thanks. -
External monitor resolution problems with Mountain Lion
I have a problem with my external monitor (Samsung LS19B150NS) and Mountain Lion (running on unibody Mac Mini). Each time I reboot OSX the resolution get reset from native 1366 x 768 to something lower. The display is connected via DisplayPort-to-VGA adapter. Some observations:
- I tried selecting "Best for..." option or "Scaled" (set on 1366 x 768 or 1360 x 768). The problem is still there
- Sometimes resoltuion might stay alright for several reboots, but then the problem re-appears again
- Sleep mode doesn't reset resolution
- Other monitors work fine via the same adapter
- The Samsung LS19B150NS work perfectly well with other Win PCs
Any suggestions how to fix it?I have a problem with my external monitor (Samsung LS19B150NS) and Mountain Lion (running on unibody Mac Mini). Problem with acer travelmate 8104 and apple cinemadisplay 23"
Hi, I have a major problem with my setup now. I`ve recently purchased a brand spanking new pc laptop (acer travelmate 8104) with a ati radeon mobility X700 graphic card.... everybody says it SHOULD be able to run a lcd monitor like the cinema display on 1920x1200 - but it is`nt. after some tickering with drivers and stuff I`ve been able to get it to run at 1920x1200, but the image on the screen is not good. Its filled with green fragments that makes the text barely readable... it would seem like it is a driver-problem somehow... but I really would appreciate any tips regarding this!
(and/or some other pc laptop that CAN use the acd 23")Hi... have`nt anybody else tried this? any ideas? pretty please?

Resolution problem with pdf presentation from CS4 in Bridge
I have CS4 and am consistently having problems creating multipage pdf files using Bridge; though they are created using 300 dpi files in Photoshop CS4 the resulting multipage pdfs from Bridge are not print quality. I never had a problem with this before Bridge was required to create pdf presentations. The files used to create the presentation in Bridge are either psd or Photoshop pdf at 300 dpi. I am completely self-taught in Photoshop and my skill level is moderate at best, but I am not finding anything to help me so far in searching google and forums. Does anyone have any info to point me in the right direction? thanks-
Have you applied all the updates for photoshop cs4 including this one:

Optical drive, camera and bluetooth problems with Acer Aspire 7520
Hello everyone
First, my DVD drive just stopped working, it's not being recognized by Arch it seems. This has happened before a few times, but it suddenly started to work. I can open the tray manually, and when I insert a DVD, you can see the led blinking and drive does start to spin, but thats all. I've tried removing and reloading cdrom module with no success. Also, there was a /dev/sr0 before, now it's gone.
Here is the output from dmesg:

Now, the camera issue is a bit different. It worked before with no problems. But now, when I start guvcview, it opens it's main window, and a second window that usually show picture from camera, just appears for a moment and disappears. The led next to my camera turns on, and stays that way. Also, yesterday when I was trying to test the camera, guvcview stuck in a uninteruptible state, so I couldn't kill him in any way. Even after I close guvcview, the camera led is still on, but he is not among active processes. Although in the guvcview output below it says that the device is in use, I don't know how, because I rebooted my laptop and then I tried to run it.
This is what guvcview outputs in console after I start and then close it:

For the bluetooth, I really never managed to get it working. The bluetooth daemons starts with no problems, but hcitool dev shows no devices. I read the wiki, and the only thing I didn't try is the hid2hci tool, I couldn't figure out what to use for devpath argument.

Resolution problem with Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter
Hi,
I have a unibody MBP 15', running on 10.5.8. I use 'Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter' (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=Nzk2MDk5OQ) to connect to my external HP LP3065 30' monitor. I get max resolution of 1280 x 800 for external monitor which supports resolution of 2560 by 1600.
This monitor used to work fine with old MBPs, but not with my unibody MBP. What could be the problem? Adapter or MBP?
I am missing high resolutions
Thanks in advance!
RohitYou have the wrong adapter. The one you have is single-link DVI, which does not support 30" displays. You need the Mini DisplayPort to Dual-Link DVI Adapter:

Display resolution problem with Lightroom 5 on a laptop
I installed Lightroom 5 on my older Lenovo laptop with 12080x768 native screen resolution. This meets the minimum display requirements, BUT... When I open Lightroom and try to set up preferences, the lower part of the preferences window is displayed off the bottom of the screen and I am unable to move it up to make changes. This problem occurs with other Lightroom windows also. So I can not use Lightroom 5 on this laptop. Any idea how to solve the problem?
Don Milleras long as your computer meets lr5's specs, no.

Resolution problems with desktop pictures?
at the beginning of ml my high resolution images, 60 mgb. were ok. now if I choose a vertical image to fit the screen, the image shows highly noticeable pixelation. that did not happen in lion, mountain lion 18.8.1, nor in snow leopard. also is happening in the last update of lion 10.7.5. has anyone told apple this annoying problem?. there is also another problem, and this one is real big. black and white images show color, like when you saturate too much an image on "hue and saturation" in photoshop. I think this problem has to do with color sync.
BeltranGo to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.desktop.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac.
See if that helps...

Does anybody know if there is a solution for this problem? I don't wanna change the screen resolution just for using that software.Hello nordlicht.22

Resolution Problems with 30-inch Apple Display and my new iMac
I'm not very good at computers, so I could use some help. I just bought a new iMac 24-inch, 3.06 Duo and I have an Apple 30-inch display I had connected to my MacBook Pro. Now I can't get a resolution better than 1280x800 and the cinema screen flickers a bit. I bought a mini-DVI to Dvi Adaptor. What else am I doing wrong? The display is enormous on the cinema display and I need to use that for my photography. Help anyone, please?
i'm not sure if you area sking this... but it seems like the info about the iMac is not to do with the problem, but your problem is with the 30 inch screen and the macbookPro?
If you are asking about a macbookPro plugging into the 30 inch screen, these should be able to run full resolution from what i remember,
you need to check that you are NOT trying to run mirrored desktop as this will limit the resolution to the maximum possible of the smaller display (your macbookpro) which will mean you can only go up to 1280x800 but if you uncheck the 'mirror display' option you should be able to set independent settings for each screen. -
I purchased a new wide screen Monitor for work today, and now having some trouble with it.
Using DVI:
When I connect the MacMini and the Acer 22" Monitor using DVI connection I get "No Signal" on boot. If I boot using another monitor, and then connect the Acer it workes fine, for a while until the sceen goes blank and "No Signal" appears again.
Using Analog:
There are the same problems when booting the system but then it workes fine.
So here are the basic system settings:
MacMini 1,5 GHz PPC
1 GB Ram
MacOS 10.4.8
Does anyone have a idea what I could do to get it working?
MacMini 1,25 GHz PPC Mac OS X (10.4.8) 1 GB Ram, Acer 22" WDSorry, the dot clock is really called the "Pixel clock" in the English version of SRX. It is in MHz, not Hz. But you don't need to know anything about that. All you have to do is enter 1680 for the Horizontal Active and 1050 for the Vertical Active and then click on the "Use simplified settings:" checkbox and then select CVT-RB in the associated pop-up. From there, SRX should fill in all the other fields for you. You should insure that the vertical scan rate stays at or close to 60Hz but I think SRX looks after that for you, too.

MBPr - Resolution problem with games
I have an issue with the resolution of my Macbook Pro with Retina Display while playing games. For some reason it changes whenever I boot up a game, so that (in fullscreen), it's highly zoomed in to a specific corner of the game screen, making it unnavigatable. This is with official game apps from the App Store, like Doom 3 and Psychonauts. Whenever I Force-Quit out, the display clearly has a much smaller resolution (text and icons are large) before going back to the normal, optimized for Retina resolution. Please help!
Hello
I also had this problem and I've found a solution: it's due to the feature "Automatic graphics switching" being active. To prevent this from happening you need to disable it in System Preferences --> Energy Saver and uncheck this option. For further convenience you can install and use the application gfxCardStatus. Anyway, it's weird to have this happening in Doom 3 and have no issue in Quake 4.
Hope I can helped.
Best regards,
Ruben P.
