880G-E45 - no display on initial boot

I built two rigs, both with an
880G-E45 and Phenom II x4 840 but one with a 6870 and the other using on board video
First, I put together the system with the video card and it had no display during the initial boot.
I tried using HDMI, VGA, and DVI and none of them worked.  Then without changing anything, it suddenly worked plugging the DVI into the top slot of my video card.
Now, plugging it into the HDMI slot and the top DVI slot are the only way it to get it to display on my monitor.  The HDMI, VGA, and DVI from the motherboard still do not show any display.  Anyone know how to fix this?
When building the second rig, I ran into the same exact problem, no display.  I even swapped in my 6870 from my working build to see if that would do the trick again but no display would show up when powered on.
Anyone got any ideas on how to make video display on this thing?
I already tried using swapping RAMS, using 1 RAM, adding video card, securing all power plugs
It seems many other people are having similar problems as there are 3 threads on the front page.  Could this have something to do with compatibility issues with the x4 840 and the motherboard?  I will try swapping all the parts between the two rigs tomorrow.

  • Help, new ipod classic won't display english. Initially booted up in an Asian language (maybe Japanese?).

Settings are set to English.  Reset several times, changed usb port, rebooted computer, followed all troubleshooting directions.  Only thing I haven't done is remove itunes and reinstalled.  Registered successfully online, Apple site obtained serial # through computer's internet connection.
Initially booted up in Asian language and won't change.  Also, won't go past first menu.  Got it at Best Buy yesterday 2/7/2012.  Should I return and get another?
Running Windows 7 Pro, 32 on a PC.
    Thanks,

  • Display error after boot

I'm having an issue where the display fails after boot, and displays only a fixed noise pattern. The screen looks completely normal through POST, GRUB, and when initially loading the kernel, when the display is still in a text mode. After that, the screen goes black for a brief second, after which it returns displaying the mentioned noise pattern. The system appears unresponsive after this, and the only option is to shut down the system with the power button.
Adding nomodeset or vga=794 to the kernel options resolves the issue. That is a temporary fix IMHO; I'd prefer something sturdier, which is my reason for posting. The issue appeared after a pacman -Syu about a week ago, I just haven't had time to look at it until now.
I've added i915 to MODULES in mkinitcpio.conf and rebuilt as described here in an attempt to fix it, but it did not seem to have any effect.
I believe this may be a KMS or a driver issue, but I do not know how to confirm or troubleshoot it. I would be grateful if anyone could shed some light on the issue, or point me in the right direction to find out what's causing the issue. Please let me know if any more logs should be attached. I'll try to attach a picture of the screen as well as a dmesg output from the failed startup later.

The bug is known, and a patch has been submitted: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=80151. There's been no update since friday, so I wonder what the current status is, or if it's up for review at all.
Does anyone know how we can be notified when this patch hits the kernel?

  • Video problem with MSI 880G-E45 board

Does anyone know if the onboard video is automatically disabled by installation of a PCI-e x16 video card on this motherboard?
I want to run two monitors and I cannot figure out how to keep the onboard vga active when I have a video card in the PCI-e x16 slot.
    Thanks!

I can't believe a Moderator on a Manufacturer's Forum is handing out such INCORECT information!!!!
Quote from: flobelix on 16-August-12, 12:43:00
Unfortunately bottom line is you can't use your onboard vga for another display besides a vga card powering different monitors. Using a discrete vga you are limited to it's multi-display abilities. Onboard vga will not work when vga card used. For using three monitors you could get an Eyefinity supporting Radeon as suggested or a GeForce GTX6xx. If your card is limited to dual display and you don't want to get a new one you'll stick with two monitors.
I submit this link (tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-780g-chipset,1785-6.html) as proof that it is possible to use both the on-board video and an added video card both simultaneously or in crossfire mode on a single display.
To further illustrate this fact further, I submit this link (amd.com/it/products/technologies/ati-hybrid-graphics/Pages/ati-hybrid-graphics.aspx) to AMD.com stating the purpose for their "Hybrid Crossfire" technology, and although their page does not show specificly that the MSI 880G-E45 motherboard supports this, THIS page Does! (msi.com/product/mb/880G-E45.html#/?div=Basic) --Scroll to the bottom to see the line stating "Hybrid Crossfire Support - Y"
When speaking with MSI customer support  about this technology, you are directed to this page (msi.com/file/test_report/TR1_2233.pdf) which shows a list of compatible video cards, ALL of which supported the Hybrid Crossfire when tested by MSI.
Add "http:\\www." to each of the links...
"flobelix", perhaps it would be better to simply say "I Don't Know" rather than providing MSI's customers with incorrect information and suggesting that they spend more money on something else.
BTW, I have personally tried 2 different video cards (MSI Radeon HD 6670 1Gb DDR5) and the (Sapphire Radeon HD 6450 1Gb DDR3) that are NOT on MSI's list, and they did NOT work with the Hybrid crossfire.
I hope we can limit further suggestions to facts instead of guesses.

Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, relaunch Safari.
If it's not Extensions, check for third party Safari add ons.

  • Display freezes at boot until screen moved

March 2010 Macbook Pro 15 - display freezes at boot from cold.
First image is dark purple, this lightens to patchy grey with vertical lines.
Move the screen and the display changes to account log in screen, but track pointer is frozen and screen gamma rises until display is whiteout with vertical lines.
Freeze and whiteout can last up to 90 seconds now, freeing for a fresh display each time screen is moved then freezing again.
Problem getting worse - lasts longer and now occurs on wake as well as boot.
Have updated everything, checked for malware, cleaned all app content, run disk utility/ repair, hardware check, reset permissions, reset PRAM, reset gamma, reset SMC - not helped. No history of damage!
Took to Apple - they replaced logic board and graphic card - problem not fixed.
Any advice to give me to give them when I go back to the bar?
    Thanks

    1. Start up in Safe Mode.(shift key at startup)
    a. Drag the Fonts folder from the Mac OS 9 System Folder (not the Mac OS X System folder) to the desktop.
    b. Drag the Fonts folder from ~/Library/Fonts to the desktop.
    b. Restart the computer in Mac OS X.
    c. If this solves the problem....you have a corrupt font in one of the above font folders
    2. Remove incompatible third-party startup items.
    a. Start up in Safe Mode.(shift at startup)
    b. Open the Mac OS X hard disk.
    c. Drag third-party items out of ....
    /Library/StartupItems .......
/System/Library/StartupItems ... Place them on the desktop .... If you're unsure whether an item is a third-party item or an Apple-installed item, don't move it.
    d.Restart the computer.
Note.. If this resolves the issue, add the Startup Items one at a time until the symptom occurs again. That way you'll know which one is incompatible. Repeat these steps and remove the incompatible item.

  • Problem solving expertise appreciated. What does a MacPro do in its initial booting phase?

My MacPro 3.1 (2008) with 20 Gb Ram does no longer want to boot. I checked the harddrive (startup disc), it is OK (my MacBook) boots from it. I checked the ram, it appears to be OK. When I push the power button the fan begins to work, red lights appear shortly on the RAM circuit boards and they go out again but then nothing happens. Monitor does not wake up, there is no start up chime, machine appear unresposive to any keyboard commands.
Anyone can tell what may be wrong, what the cause is why the MacPro does no longer want to boot and what could possibly be done about it?
So some Problem solving expertise and advice is higlhly appreciated. I really like to know what exactly does a MacPro do in its initial booting phase? Information that could bring life b to my well respected grand-old lady.

Conventional wisdom is that you get nowhere until you get the chime.
For that reason, the approved method is to remove everything that could possible be dragging down power and test the absolute minimum configuration, hoping to get the chime. Once it chimes, you slowly build it back up. adding one part at a time until you find something faulty or it "comes clean".
    Disconnect AC power and remove:
    graphics card
    All other PCIe cards
    All Hard drives
    All Optical drives
All RAM -- then check for the power light blinking
next step is to restore one pair of DIMMs and try for the chime.
    Then more DIMMs
    Then graphics card, etc.

  • LED cinema display + Mac Pro + Boot camp = build in iSight not working

    Hallo,
I hope that anybody has the same situation. I bought a Mac Pro and the LED cinema display. Installed boot camp and windows vista. Now I recognized that the iSight camera build in the LED cinema display is not always working. Mostly not. Sometimes the iSight is recognised but as written mostly not . May be the USB is out of specification. I want to give the display back and buy a new one. Before i go this way I want to be sure that normally this configuration is working. Could anybody please confirm this?
    Thank you, Frank

Thank you for your quick response.
    You're welcome, frankiko
Is it true that in your opinion it should work?
    No.
I will try your suggestions ... send back the LED cinema display... it seems to be working with MacOS.
Your new information is helpful. Because your system, including iSight, consistently work properly when running Mac OS X, your LED cinema display, iSight, Mac, and Mac OS X, are obviously working properly.
Although I do not use Windows®, the problem you describe must be with your Windows® installation and/or configuration. Therefore, returning the display will not resolve your problem unless you plan to use some different camera that you know works with your Windows® installation.
Before you return your LED display, you may wish to consider any of the following that may be relevant to the system you are using:
    (1) If you use Mac OS X 10.5 Boot Camp with Vista: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1606
    (2) If you use Mac OS X 10.6 Boot Camp with Vista: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3777
    (3) If it is an option in your version of Boot Camp, have you tried repairing the Boot Camp drivers? See your Boot Camp Installation Guide for help on how to repair the drivers and reinstall a specific driver if necessary.

  • New MacMini - System Error on Initial Boot

I just bought a new Mac Mini 2.5Ghz/Core 2 i5/500GB HDD and instead of initial boot up with stock Mavericks install I cloned my existing Mavericks partition fromm previous MacMini to new HDD but I get a system error message on boot up.    I can run the old Mavericks install from the external drive attached to the new Mac Mini just fine but can't boot from the  internal drive.    I am trying now to do a virgin install of Mavericks downloaded from the app store  but where is it written you must do the inital boot of a new machine from the installed OS?  Don't understand why a clone of Mavericks doesn't work.

    Reinstalling Mavericks worked.   Problem solved.

  • Cannot display linked initiative

    Hi!
In details about an objective in our goal diagram are listed several initiatives. By clicking on an initiative it appears the linked initiative. By clicking on one specific initiative it appears the warning message "Cannot display linked initiative; contact your System Administrator. Initiative may have been deleted, or you may not have permission to view it."
My user is assigned to all application groups.
I checked the table CPMS_INITIATIVE. The User-ID in field CPMS_USER_ID_AUTH doesn´t exist in table CPMS_USER.
Have someone an idea why this initiative is shown in the detail about this objective?
    Regards
    Marion

    Hello,
It may  be  cache issue.   If you have IE 7 or 8, there is an option to "preserve favorites website data", if this is turned on then any site in your favorites will not get the browser cache cleared when you delete temporary internet files.  See if this option is on.  if it is on, turn it off and clear the browser cache.
    IE>Tools>internet options>browsing history>delete.
A quick test in 7.5 SP7, where an init was created and the link was on the goal diagram which functions.  Then the init was manually deleted and the link on the goal diagram was removed after a refresh.
That is the way it should work.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Current setup is 880g-e45 with and 975 BE, 8 gig corsair 1600 memory, MSI r7770 oc edition video card, 128 GB Samsung ssd, and 1Tb Hitachi HDD

It also only recognizes a 3rd drive via USB never esata. The HDD controller is set to ahci
Any help or ideas would be great.
    OS: win 7 ultimate x86_64/fedora 18 x86_64

model of drives are hua722010cla330, both are identical, but system board also failed to recognize, my 2TB Western digital Green power drive Model number. WD20EADS.
I do have a HDD docking bay that uses both usb and Esata and with 2 drives on System Board the bios will see Drives connected Via USB bot no Esata. And will not see drives If connected to Board.
I Have tried swaping cables between the different drives to see if maybe it was a cable problem, and have since Replaced all sata cables, and upgraded PSU to make sure it wasnt cable/power related problem.

  • Added a newer, faster HD but initial boot is longer

Hey guys Im new to the MAC scene and purchased my 13" MacBook Pro right after Christmas. I love it, and today I bought a Seagate Maximus 7200 RPM 500 GB drive to replace the original 160GB drive.
I used SuperDuper to clone the drive, yet when I initially boot up the system the white screen shows as normal, however it seems like it takes the Apple logo and the "working" animation longer than it did before.
Any ideas on what I could have done wrong with this? I have it as 1 single partition and I partitioned it to be a boot up drive via the OS' partition program.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
All I can think of is that it's badly fragmented somehow ... you could try the Free Trial version of Drive Genius 2 to see if this is the case but to defragment you'd need to a) Boot from another Volume and b) purchase it (the trial allows you to see the structure but won't tidy it up)
