881 Router Wireless Module

Hi Everyone,
I was given an 881 router to work on. I was told that it has the integrated wireless module installed, but I cannot see any radio antenna on the device. Is there a command I can run to determine if the wireless module is installed. I tried sh ver and it did not reveal any information to suggest there is a wireless module.
Also in global configuration mode, the command interface Wlan-ap0, is not accepted.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

880W antenna is fixed.  You can't remove or replace it.  So if there's no antenna then it doesn't have one.
The command "sh inventory" that Michael has posted is a pretty good indication as to the exact model of the router you've got.  "sh version | b License UDI" command will also help.

  • Wireless Module Not Supported...in the manual it is?

    HP maual located here: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02770268.pdf
Page 20 Chapter 3 it lists:
    Intel Centrino® Wireless-N 1000 (802.11b/g/n) 593530-001
So I ordered this from the HP parts store and received it today and the laptop posts with a Wireless Module Not Supported. WLAN Module ID 702 message.
So how do I proceed from here? Laptop came with an ralink card that only connected at 72Mbps, the atheros AR9285 constantly connects at 65Mbps unless I reset my router every time I connect.
My laptop is a HP Pavilion g6-1a40ca
    Help please!
    Marc

    Thanks for replying
Looks like modding the bios is the only way I'll get something better into this laptop. All I know is that the two officially supported cards I have right here are terribly slow/flaky. Going by the manual I really don't have any other choice in wireless cards. This is a great laptop for the price, just wish it didn't come crippled.
Oh I know...lol...I'll buy a usb one and soldier it onto one of the usb ports internally. j/k
Thanks again for clarifying for me. If anyone has anything additional to add to this thread in future about adding support official or unofficial, please post it here.
    Thanks,
    Marc

  • Using WRT610N w/ Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless module

I am considering buying an FW or Z series Sony laptop which includes Intel WiFi Link 5100 as the wireless module, which is a dual range (2.4 & 5 GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/draft-n module. In order to benefit from wireless-n speeds as much as possible, I want to buy a good Wireless-N router. The one I am considering buying is Linksys WRT-610N. However, the thing is that I see on some forums that people have some problems with an older Linksys Wireless-N router used in conjunction with an older Intel wireless module. I am afraid I can have similar problem with the combination of the above mentioned router and wireless module. Moreover, I read a comment on somebody’s review of WRT610N on amazon.com that says that WRT610N is based on broadcom wireless chipset and thus may not give a good performance on PCs having an Atheros wireless module. If this is correct, it may go the same for using WRT610N with an Intel wireless chipset. Anyhow, my question is, have you been using a Linksys router with your PC that has an Intel wireless module and how do you find the performance (speed, range, frequency of drop-offs)? Comments from people using WRT610N (at least WRT600) along with a PC that has an Intel WiFi Link 5100 will be much more appreciated!

I think your in luck.. I have the exact combination that you are considering. I have a Sony FW190 with the intel 5100 a/g/draft-n card.
In my network I have the following:
    1 Toshiba laptop 802.11abg (atheros)
    1 Sony laptop 802.11abg (intel)
    1 Sony FW190 802.11agn (Intel 5100)
I'm leveraging the dual radios on the wrt610n using 5Ghz band (wide) exclusively for the Sony FW190 the other laptops use the 2.4Ghz band.
On the Draft-N wifi connections I get connection speeds from 136Mbps to 300Mbps .. I've gotten donload speeds from my home server at a sustained 60Mbps+ speeds.
The configuration on both the laptop and the router took some understanding because of the features that 802.11n provides and the capability of the router to support dual radios. But overall I'm happy with the hardware and performance.
    Good luck!

  • Wireless module on 800 series reboot

I have a wireless problem on the 800 series and with two PCs connected to the wireless router and you're a 40GB file to send by second PC over the wireless module does away is this normal?

You can get the PoE daughter card pre-fitted before the appliance leaves the factory or you can do it yourself as an after-sales item.
800-IL-PM-4 is the daughter card.  Read the Q & A below:
    Q. Can the PoE be upgraded after ordering?
    A. Yes, you can upgrade the PoE on all models except the C892FSP-K9, which does not support PoE at all. For all Cisco 890 Routers, the product ID (PID) for the PoE upgrade is 800-IL-PM-4=. This PID comes with two power supply options: 80 or 125 watts. The older CISCO890 requires the 80-watt option, whereas the newer C890 requires the 125-watt option.
    Q. Why do some routers use 80 watts and others 125 watts for PoE?
    A. The 80-watt power supply is used in addition to the standard 60-watt power supply, so you will have two power supplies connected to the router. For the newer routers we combined these two power supplies into the one 125-watt power supply (hence we have a 4-pin connector). Both models support the base router as well as 4 ports with standard PoE.

  • Cannot connect IBM Thinkpad to Linksys Router Wirelessly

I recently moved in with a friend, and my IBM Thinkpad T42, with Windows XP, cannot connect to her Linksys WRT120N router wirelessly. I am able to connect to the internet using an Ethernet cable, and I am able to connect to other public wireless networks.
I have been told by Cisco helpdesk people that it is because Windows XP does not support WPA2 security, and/or that because they don't know much about IBM computers, I should get rid of the third party internet connection software, IBM Access Connections, that came with my computer.
I have been having this problem for a week, and I did not even know I had IBM Access Connections until today, so I don't think that's the problem. Also, my friend has been using that application successfully on her computer, Thinkpad T61, Windows XP, to connect to this router, which she has been using for 2 years. So with two almost identical computers, does anybody know why my wireless connection isn't working?

Answer these questions, I may be able to give you the right solution to your issue:
    1. Go to your Network Connections folder on your wired computer and check which one is connected:
    a. Local Area Connection
    b. Broadband Connection
    c. 1394 Connection
    2. What is the IP address of your computer?
    3. Who is your internet service provider?
    4. What is the error message when you connect the wireless computer to the network?

  • Connect 2 Router wireless

I have 2  WRT54G router, router#1 in the kitchen with modem and internet work perfectly. router#2 is in my home office without moden and no internet.
how can i connect this 2 router wireless?

Not at all. The WRT is a wireless router not an access point. The WRT does not support wireless bridging with Linksys firmware.
Option 1: Get a 3rd party firmware which allows wireless bridging on a WRT.
Option 2: Get an access point like the Linksys WAPs which are capable of wireless bridging.

  • Wireless module not supported

I have a DV6Z-6C00 CTO laptop notbook and I recently had to install a new wireless card but I keep getting a Wireless module not supported error. I checked with the manual and I ordered a Intel Centrino-N 1000 WLAN Module (593530-001 replacement #) and I checked on the actual card (and they match). So why am I getting this error, and how can I fix it?
    Btw I have Windows 8

Is the wireless card an actual HP card? It is not enough that it be the same Intel chipset card.

  • Connect to WRT400N Router Wirelessly from Another Switch/Router?

My cable line, modem, and WRT400N router is in the basement and wired via cat5 to several other rooms in the house. The signal strength is great everywhere. Unfortunately, wiring was not run to the room where I need to connect (2) desktop PC's to the Internet. Can I use another router or switch to connect to the WRT400N router wirelessly so that those PC's will have Internet access via that device connection, or will I need to put wireless adapters in each machine that talk to the router in the basement directly?

Two linksys router will not communicate wirelessly...You can connect the switch/router hardwired to the router.

  • QoS 881 router not policing

    Hi,
I'm trying to setup QoS policing to limit bandwith for some protocols. I'm using a 881 router.
I just want to police the traffic for the protocols and configured this:
    class-map filetransfer
     match protocol itunes
     match protocol bittorrent
     match protocol ftp
    policy-map qos_filetransfer

    int f4
     service-policy input qos_filetransfer
     service-policy output qos_filetransfer
But when I'm testing to download a file with ftp the traffic is not limited.
If I run: sh ip nbar protocol-discovery stats bit-rate top-n 10, I can see the ftp traffic:

did you change the router settings from your wireless laptop ?? its always recommended to change the router settings from the wired computer ...
    also , on the router web interface , try changing the wireless channel - either 1 or 11 , beacon interval - 50 , Fragmentation threshold - 2306 , RTS threshold - 2307

  • Can a Cisco 881 router create an L2TP/IPsec tunnel via NAT to Windows 2008?

    Hi
Was anyone successfull in setting up an L2TP/IPsec tunnel through NAT-T against a Windows 2008/ R2 RRAS server? I am using an 881 router and the layout is someting like this:
    Client -> 881 -> NAT -> internet -> Windows 2008 RRAS
The tunnel goes form the 881 to the Windows server (not from the client...).
    Thanks
    Roland

    Hi Federico
Thanks for your help! Much appreciated.
In my case this should be transparent to the client - I would like not to initiate the connection from the client.
Does that makes sense? I am considering L2TP because Windows 2008 R2 doesn't support IPSec tunnels through NAT (2008 R2 being the responder and the Cisco router the initiator of the IPSec connection).

  • 881 Router - How many Vlans are supported (Dhcp scopes)

    Dear All!
After calling Cisco three times without response, I need to ask this most likely simple question right here.
How many vlans does a 881 router support? Will this be the same number for dhcp scopes?
    Thanks for your time...
..hopefully you guys can sort it for me ;)

    Hi,
On every Cisco router platform each interface, sub interface & VLAN
uses a system reference point referred to as an Interface Desciptor Block.
    IDB
Depending on processing power of each platform determines the number
of IDBs the router platform can support.
On all IOS version referred to in the documentation a Cisco 881
can support up to 300 IDBs
    The router has physically 5 interfaces (4 x LAN + 1 x WAN)
    300 - 5 = 295
So you shouldin theory be able to build
    295/2 = 147 VLANs & 147 SVIs
Remember a VLAN uses 1 IDB & an SVI uses 1 IDB
See this link for more info.
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/ios-nx-os-software/ios-software-releases-122-mainline/15096-idb-limit.html#max_no_interfaces
    Hope this helps
    Regards
    Alex
