8830 Address Book Transfer

The Address Book Transfer option suddently stopped working....When looking at the Address Book Transfer option it is disabled and there is a small lock next to the word disabled. I have no idea why this happened nor can I find anything that tells how to unlock it and switch it to enabled. Everything was working fine until noon today. I am a new BB user and have no idea what I did. Any one had this problem or can help.

The small red lock icon normally means it is an IT Policy restricting what ever it is you are trying to do.
Is this blackberry connected to your companys Blackberry Enterprise Server? This is where the IT Policy comes from.

  • Address Book Transfer from 4.0.6 to 5.0.1

I just finished migrating my files and applications via FireWire from a PowerBook G4 (10.4.11) to a MacBook Pro (10.6.2). My address book didn't make the transfer. The AB version on the PowerBook does not have an export function. The AB version on the MacBook Pro has an Import function, but it does not recognize the file in user/Library/Application Support/Address Book from the PowerBook. A quick search appears to show that I would have to buy some third party app to export the old address book. What am I missing? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Thanks to both j.v. and Barney for your suggestions. I used a combination of your two ideas to almost solve this problem. The two computers are both connected to the same wireless network. From the MBP, I logged onto the PB using its ID/password. This gave me access to all files on that machine from the MBP. Importing the backup file Barney suggested earlier did not work - the Group names came over, but not the address cards! In fact, I couldn't delete the Groups within the application. I had to go eliminate the files in Library/Applications/Address Books folder to eliminate them.
In the PB, I then made Vcards as suggested for each Group as suggested by j.v. Since I was logged onto the PB via the MBP, I could see all these files. I thought I was home free when I imported the first Group's address cards, created a new Group with the same name, and dragged all these cards into the Group. For the subsequent groups, I had hoped to use the Last Import list, creating new group names for each group that I imported. HOWEVER, for some reason, Last Import contains all the cards imported, not just the last group! Any ideas as to how to overcome this problem? Is there a single file that I can delete to clear out Last Import?
    Thanks again for any ideas.

  • Group email and address book transfer

I am a new mac user so clueless about most things: two questions
Is it possible to transfer my compuserve address book to my mac account?
If not, I was trying at least to transfer group emails: in other words, to cut and paste the emails from my group, create a new group account in MAC and paste. But after creating "group" in mac, I could not access the folder or find where how to paste addresses under the group.
Finally, how do I make functions for bold/italics/underline/font appear in my email?
    Thanks!
    Epalinges

Reinstalling the Mail.app rarely resolves any problems with the application.
All Mail.app account settings are stored in the Mail.app preference file which is not deleted and recreated new when deleting and re-installing Mail so if the SMTP server setting problem is with the preference file, deleting and re-installing Mail will be a complete waste of time and effort on your part which doing so usually is anyway.
Is this email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet or other?
If other, are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server provided by your ISP used for connecting to the internet with Mail and if so, any problems sending messages with this account and SMTP server?
Most ISPs and email account providers have sending limits/restrictions for non-business email accounts. Some have a total recipient limit per message along with a total number of recipients limit for all messages sent in a 24 hour period. Some only have the latter which can be reached or exceeded with a single message.
And lastly -- when I put a group email name into my Mac Mail,
it changes it from the group to the entire list of anyone that is
in the group! Not cool! And it has never done this before either...
Go to Mail > Preferences > Composing. What is your setting under Addressing for "When sending to a group, show all member addresses"?

  • Problem with Bluetooth Address Book Transfer

    Hello,
    Just upgraded my 8300 to a AT&T 8900.
I would appreciated it if someone could please test this.
I have about 1000 contacts in my address book. My car has integrated bluetooth and it uploads the address book. However it takes a long time to load 1000 contacts.
The solution that worked fine on my 8300:
In MS Outlook I attached the contacts I use while driving to a new category called CAR.
On the phone: under the bluetooth device options, there is:
    Contacts Transfer: "Selected Categories Only"
I set the Category to "CAR" (you need to use the bb button and select the category(s) from the check list)
On the 8300, ONLY the contacts attached to the "CAR" category wold load.
On my new 8900, it loads all 1000 contacts, regardless of which category I selected.
Any help would be most appreciated.

    Can anyone else confirm this?

  • Address book transfer from Palm 3x to Mac Address Book Lion

Have a vintage Palm3x synched with a vintage Dell Inspiron 8300 desktop computer using XP.  Recently aquired a Mac Book Pro with the new Lion OS.  Is there any way to transfer the address book and memos from the old machine to the new?  Apple recommended trying to transfer via a flash drive using the .csv format.  When I tried to export the data from the Palm Desktop OS 3.0.1 to the flash drive, I got a message: :  "Export error, *.csv contains an invalid path".  Heard from another source that Palm 3X is incompatible with Lion OS anyway, and to try to export to Microsoft Outlook on the old Dell first and then to attempt to synch with the Mac from Outlook...
Any ideas on how this might be done, and if so, what exact steps should I take?  Should I still attempt to sync with Outlook with .csv format? Tried this, but couldn't find the appropriate folder to export to - under the C: drive, there were only about 6 or 8 options, none of which seemed to have anything to do with Outlook.
    Post relates to: Palm IIIx

I tried going to the application support folder to get the address book to transfer from my iMac with Leopard to my Powerbook with Tiger. It didn't work for me either. So here's what I did and it worked like a charm:
Select all contacts in each separate group in your address book on your iMac and drag them individually to a thumb or flash drive. This will create a vcard for each of the groups. ( I had 8 groups). Plug the drive into your Powerbook, add the name of each group you are transferring, and drop each group into the proper group on the Address book. This essentially copies each V-Card from one computer to the other. If you have obsolete addresses on your Powerbook, they will be automatically updated. This may be too late to help you, but perhaps someone else may have the same problem.

  • Address Book transfer

Well, I have over 1,100 entries in my Curve's contact list so aome upper limit osn't the issue.
Do you get any error messages? Maybe you have a corrupted record.

  • Outlook Express address book transfer

how do I copy my contacts in my Outlook Express (Time Warner) address book to my ipad mini 2?  I already have synchronized my email and get them in both my Windows XP computer and my ipad.

I was having no success at all when I was trying to import mail data from Outlook Express to Mail on the same office G4 Tower where I just upgraded to Tiger, where all the Apple docu says it is possible...
    Then I realised,
    1. When in X, when importing data from OE, Classic has to be booted, my only and originally OS 9 (installed X on another partition) is to "heavily loaded" with a lot of 3rd party extensions etc, it never loaded completely
Solution: Install another clean and lean copy of OS 9 somewhere else, then designate this as your Classic, and make sure you only have one copy of OE and one set of your Identities etc in the Document folder
    2. The easier way out is if you have Office X or Office 2004, use Entourage to import everything from OE, then use Mail to import from Entourage.

  • Birthdates from address book transfer to calendar wrong????

When I did all my adderss book cards entering the birthdates a couple of them transferred to the ical onto wrong months. Then when I went into the address book card and changed the date again to the correct date and later went back to check it again I noticed that the date had reverted back to the wrong month again on the calendar. All the other entries transferred correctly. Any ideas on how to fix this glitch????
      Mac OS X (10.4.7)

In AB try putting the dates in as eg 10 Sep 2000
rather than all numerals, as I think iCal gets
    confused between 9/10/2000 and 10/9/2000.
    AK
I TRIED THAT BUT IT DIDN'T WORK EITHER. IT AUTOMATICALLY CHANGED IT BACK TO JANUARY 19, 1955 AFTER I PUT IN 19 SEPTEMBER, 1955????
    ANY OTHER IDEAS??

  • How to transfer address book to new iPhone 4 (which has micro-SIM)?

Since I will be unable to put the SIM card from my Blackberry Pearl 8100 into the micro-SIM slot of the iPhone 4, how can I get my contacts into the new iPhone 4? The B'berry just has accumulated contact info SIM transferred from previous Razor, not address book or calendar or anything from my iMac's now Entourage 2008 program.
My iMac's address book has 350 entries collected over the past 20 years. I sure do not want all that significant amount of old, historical info to be on my phone, so a direct sync would bring a ton of crap to the iPhone (don't want that).
    Is there a way to:
    1) mark some (read most) contacts NOT to transfer in a sync?
    2) or any (relatively) easy way separate current 'phone related data' from the rest of the data which is more related to email and physical addresses info that I (think I) have no use for on the phone. It seems like my iPhone address book would be a confusing mess if all data from my iMac were transferred over.
Any ideas on this are appreciated.
I have been reading of the huge frustration on iPhone pre-order 'trying' today, so I have not attempted yet. I need to decide if my address book transfer would be best done at an Apple Store or if I should have it shipped to my home for me to deal with the data transfer. Hmmmn.

Sorry about my sentence structure. If I recall right I was responding late at night.
With that said, my suggestion is to yes create an gMail account (if you don't already have one).
Find a way to export out your current contacts to a .CSV file.
Google's gMail address book has an option to Import from a .CSV file (maybe some other formats too).
Once imported, verify everything looks good and edit as needed.
When you get your iPhone there is an option to have the iPhone get and sync it's address book with Google.
Once setup, it allows you to edit contacts via a computer (browse to gMail, edit contacts) and the iPhone will automatically get the changes. Also any changes you make on the iPhone will automatically show up in Google's gMail contacts. Thus no need to ever plug phone in to sync contacts. You only need to plug in to sync music and other data.
I find this process far better than having to plug in to ensure my contacts get backed up.
You can read more about it here on Google's site:
    http://www.google.com/mobile/sync/

  • Transfer Address Book - unable to locate object push server

Well, I've seen this issue raised on many forums but no answers forthcoming from either RIM nor service providers - in my case, Swisscom.
    The environment & issue:-
unit: Blackberry Pearl 8100 / firmware just updated to v4.2.1.94 (platform 2.3.0.77) - enterprise server activated
Car:  BMW 330 new off the line Nov 2008
BMW notes:- according to their literature, the Pearl and this level firmware is fully supported
    Before the firmware upgrade...
could make Bluetooth connection but if "transfer address book" was enabled, the link would drop every 30 seconds
    After the firmware upgrade...
Bluetooth connection established and stable - even with address book transfer enabled but:-
    *  address book is not (automatically) transferred
    *  attempts to force a transfer results in the message (on the Pearl) - "unable to locate object push server"
This seems to indicate the pearl is looking for an enterprise server in the car - why, I don't know
Would be great to break this impasse

I had this problem on my own (I have a car with Bluetooth -Mercedes W204- and a BB 8820) and I was struggling with this for several months. I look everywhere on the internet with no answers and I found a lot of people with the same problem. However.... I think I FINALLY HAVE THE SOLUTION:
    Here we go:
    - On a bluetooth connection you have, basically, two components.
    - You have the BB device and the car device. The key is that the car that is able to receive address book transfers has TWO services:
    1) hands free unit
    2) Objects Push
The thing is that this TWO services cannot work together AT THE SAME TIME. Normally, you have the car device activated as a "hands free unit", SO, when you attempt to transfer the address book, you receive the famous message "unable to locate object push server".
The one million dollar question is "how can you switch to "Objects push" mode ? Answer: go to Bluetooth, select your car device, open Options and press for "update list of services" and.... voilá!!! the description "hands free unit" will change to "objects push". At that time you will be able to transfer contacts (obviously setting your car device -in my case- to receive those contacts).
Be careful: once you finalized the transfer, you must deactive the car device for receiving contacts and, on your BB, update again the list of services to get your "hands free unit" again because, if not, you were possible will be having problems on connecting over the bluetooth (another common problem I saw in several posts). And that´s it. It worked for me so, pleae try it and Enjoy!! By the way, you don´t need to update your OS....
    Cheers from Argentina. Diego

  • Transfer Address Book from Pearl to Curve

The USB port on the Pearl is partially broken so that it will take a charge but not transfer data. So I bought a Curve and want to use bluetooth to transfer the address book from the Pearl to the Curve if possible.  Is that possible?
Here is what I've done. I added the Pearl as a bluetooth device on the Curve and the Curve onto the Pearl. In Bluetooth options on each device, I set the Discoverable as Yes, Allow Outgoing Calls as Always, and Address Book Transfer as All Entries. Then I had one device Search for the Other which was set to 'Allow another device to find me.' The searching device showed "1 found" then listed "No new device found; ensure the device you are searching for is in pairing mode. Search again?" I reversed the process and had the Curve search and the Pearl "Allow". No success. What else do I need to do?
I tried to connect the Pearl to the Blackberry Desktop Manager via bluetooth but although my Tecra device manager shows that there is a bluetooth rfcomm, the Bluetooth Local Com says there are no existing com ports and the bluetooth device is not ready. The Tecra device manager lists the following ports - BT Com 19, BT Com 20, BT Com 21, and RIM Virtual Serial Port V2 9 and Port V2 10.
Is there any way to avoid having to re-enter all 387 contacts which include names, mutliple phone numbers and addresses???
    Bruce

I bought a USB BlueTooth dongle for those situations and Sync the phone with desktop manager.

It's possible that Outlook doesn't understand multiple contact vCards.
If that's the case, use vCard Splitter:

  • How can I access Address Book data from an older version of the application to transfer it to a newer version of Mac OS running on a second hard drive on the same MDD G4?

I installed a hard drive from one PowerPC Dual 1.25 GHz MDD into another one with an older version of the OS X.  all my Address Book data are on the older hard drive, from which I now boot the computer.  When I launch Address Book as an app on the hard drive with the newer version of the OS, I get an error message that says I cannot run the version of Address Book from the older hard drive on the newer OS.  How can I access the data on the older hard drive version of the Address Book app so that I can transfer it to the newer version of the app on the boot drive?  The "Import" functionality will not work. I will be grateful for any help I can get.  I would also like to uninstall the older version of OS X from the older hard drive.

Boot from the older version of OSX, then in AB use the File>Export>Export vCard after selecting all in AB.
Then boot from the new OSx & use the new AB to import that VCF file.

  • How do I transfer an address book from one computer to another?

I'm trying to transfer an address book from my G4 to my Imac G5 and can't seem to figure out how to do it. I've tried exporting out of one, but the other doesn't read it. These computers are not connected so I'm transferring via cd.
    Thanks,
    Dick Skover

    Hi Dick
If they are both running Tiger
Use "Backup Address Book" in Address Book > File to make a copy then
"Revert to Address Book Backup" on the iMac
I use this for backing up both Address Book and iCal as a matter of course (it is the Apple recommended way in the Help files) I put them into a folder in my "Documents" and clear old copies once a month. If you use .Mac I would certainly recommend it seeing the problems with data loss some folks have had.
