8830 Killed By RIM

Yesterday i attempted to sync and update my 8830, I downloaded the software off of RIM's site, and plugged in my phone. About half way through, while "syncing the TVM" it game me a message that said "a fatal error has occurred, please restore your phone" But the desktop manager wont recognize a phone is connected... I also cant seem to find any number that would be helpful as far as service goes, anything i do find says that you need to pay for it and I really dont think i should have to pay for service on their products. Any help would be much appreciated!

Hi and Welcome to the forums!
In what condition is your BB now? Is it usable? Does it still have your data? If so, then please clarify exactly what you are attempting to do...you said both sync and update...which, or exactly what are you needing to do? This KB might apply:
KB02696 "Unable to complete loading operation. Fatal error occurred when updating handheld" error displayed when attempting to reload software on a BlackBerry smartphone
If your BB is not usable and/or no longer has your data, then reloading the device OS would be in order:

If there are further sypmtoms or indicators, please let us know -- there are several different possible resolution paths, but they depend on your specific circumstances.
Thanks and let us know!

  • Data emails from RIM - 8830

I acquired my 8830 a few days ago, and it generally seems to be working fine.  But, since then I have been sporadically (3-4 times a day) getting numerous (10 to 50) data emails at a time from RIM (subject is "RIM_bca....."), that all say they contain data and not to delete.  What are those about?  Are they necessary? Can I stop them bombarding me and filling up my In box or update the data another way?

  • Uncaught Exception error 86: RIM messaging. Kill. Me. Now. :-)

My phone reports an uncaught exception error 86 several times a day. sometimes it reboots itself. Sometimes it says it's rebuilding the message list. Other times it just won't open email or SMS message lists at all.
I've scoured the forums, done multiple hard resets, updated the OS, downgraded the OS, upgraded it back up again and still no solution.
    Aaaaarrgghh! :-)
    Someone please help me!
Curve 8900 on AT&T in San Francisco. Running v5.0.0.1067.The only apps I use are Google Maps, Google Sync and eBay. There appears to be no pattern to when the problem happens: sometimes I literally pick the phone up to find it in the middle of a reboot.
If someone can't help me I may have to shoot myself. :-)

    Hi
As you have found, such an issue is usually dealt with by reinstalling the OS. Did you completely wipe the BB and start from scratch with new OS and Desk Top Software? I kept re-installing the same OS not realising is what my particular copy of it that had the problem. So
In the guides it says to do a backup. Do this if you haven't already done so saving the file to a place and in a name that you can easily locate on computer.
I then uninstalled DTM and then deleted all other references to BB/Rim in Windows Explorer thus removing the OS for the BB from the computer in order to ensure that the version I would reinstall would be a brand new downloaded version.
Get the latest Desk Top Software
    http://us.blackberry.com/apps-software/desktop/?CPID=OTC-DSKTPSW&cp=OTC-DSKTPSW
and install it on the computer.
Get the correct latest version of the OS
    http://us.blackberry.com/support/downloads/download_sites.jsp
    and save it to computer.
To erase all the data on your BlackBerry device, complete the following steps. This option is available with
BlackBerry Device Software 3.8 and later.
    1. In the device Options, click Security.
If you are using BlackBerry Device Software 4.1, click Security Options > General Security.
    2. Click the trackwheel and select Wipe Handheld.
    3. Click Continue.
    4. Type “blackberry”. All the data on the BlackBerry device is erased.
On some new versions of BlackBerry software, the menu navigation is slightly different.
    1. Go to Options.
    2. Select Security Options.
    3. Select General Settings.
    4. Click the Menu key.
    5. Select Wipe Handheld.
    6. Click Continue.
    7. Type “blackberry”. All the data on the BlackBerry device is erased.
Launch the new Desk Top Software on the computer
    1. Connect your device to your computer.
    2. On the home screen of the BlackBerry® Desktop Software, click Update my device.
    3. Do one of the following:
    * To download an update, click Get update.
    * To view other available versions of the BlackBerry Device Software, click View other versions. If applicable, click another version. Click Install.
Ensure the new OS is the one you prevously downloaded. When you get to the step of reinstalling apps, leave out the latest app/s or those you originally installed before the problem started. You can reinstall these one at a time once you are happy that device works.
Do not disconnect the device until the whole process is completed and the device has rebooted.
After 10 minutes reboot again by removing the battery whilst powered-on and leave it out for a couple of minutes.
Leave it again for 10 minutes. You should now have a fully functioning BB!

  • Vibrate+Tone doesn't work correctly - 8830

When set to vibrate+tone, all the 8830 will do is vibrate.  Even when going through the settings and configuring them, when vibrate+tone is highlighted, only vibrate works.
    Is this a bug?

Hey! In BlackBerry if set vibrt+tone and set vibrt as 2 times then after 2 vibration device will start ring...from your writing I assume it is working fine.
The features that come with BlackBerry can't be changed so easily!! It's RIM who decide what and how for BlackBerry!!!

  • My 8830 world edition won't register to local carrier BIS

I just bought this 8830 word edition from ebay. Originally it's locked to Verizion but I already unlocked.
In a first time when I insert my BB enabled GSM sim card, it's registered and my BIS service works fine. But After I wipe and reinstall the OS (I use 4.5.175 from verizon because there are no any local carrier have it the installer for 8830) - I still can registered (got RIM registration message and GRPS signal) but the service book is not pushed to the device. I am tring to push the service book from my carrier BIS site but there is no response in the device to receive it.
Currently, I can't see the email settings icon - and in the setup wizard there are no option to add/create personal email - just BES email activation.  When I go to my local carrier CS - they remove my BIS account and ask me to do wipe and HRT. I do it but again, I got RIM registration message and GPRS signal but no icons for email setings, ym, gtalk that's usually pushed when the new device connected at the first time. Then my local carrier trying to create a new BIS account for me - but got "Invalid PIN or IMEI/ESN/MEID format" message. I ask them to use PIN and ESN instead of PIN and IMEI - still no luck and gota message as below:
This BlackBerry(R) device is not registered with your wireless service
    provider.
Please register this device and verify that the URL of the current web
    site matches
the one provided by your wireless service provider.
    To register:
    1. In the Application list on your device, click Options, or click
    Settings Options.
    2. Click Advanced Options > Host Routing Table.
    3. Click the Menu key and click Register Now.
If the error persists, contact your wireless service provider.
My local carrier then check to their billing system and they said my simcard was not connected to the device. Then they said is strange issue and mention about the "invalid imei format" is not normal (the last digit of imey number on the device is 0 but the correct one is 8).
I need help for clear out this issues. Any suggestion? Was I bought a suspended device? I'm trying to email [email protected] asking the information but they just auto-replying. I have plan to rise a dispute on ebay but I need to clearly the issue first.
Hope got any enlightenment from this forum. Thanks.

    Hey jackonberry,
    Thanks for the reply.
After checking your PIN number I see that your BlackBerry® data plan is not active.  Contact your network service provider to resolve this issue.

  • Blackberry 8830 World Edition -- won't play internet video

I cannot get my Blackberry 8830 World Edition to play internet video, such as YouTube videos, etc.
When I click to play them on my phone, I get this message:
"a problem occurred when trying to render page"
    Can anyone help?

If I'm not mistaken, you need OS 4.5 to do that and OS 4.5 has not been "officially" released yet despite what RIM tried to suggest in an email they sent out the "Blackberry Owners Lounge" members a month or so ago. I'm running the latest beta of OS 4.5 and it runs Youtube vids with a small tweak.
Unfortunately, you'll probably just need to wait until RIM finally gives us 4.5 officially.

  • Why did they break data tethering in 4.5 on the 8830 WE?

    Hi All,
Just wondering - why did the BB gods decide that tethering needed to be broken in v 4.5 of the device software?   Was it far too convenient to have a 2-3 year old phone that worked, and give us the free OS update?
I've tried every version of 4.5 - tethering is broken on all of them.  Error "Remote Computer not responding".  Looking at it on a port monitor - the device sends back a "NO CARRIER" right after it dials #777 ("ATDT#777").  The same phone and same PC works swimmingly when used the phone in 4.2.2.
So what's the deal?  I can't imagine how it could be a carrier issue.

Sorry dude, I know for a fact it works. RIM (or no one else) has removed tethering from OS 4.5 for ANY devices, including the 8830.
The fact that you don't have it working, and your carrier is less than stellar at customer service and quite frankly is lying to you, doesn't mean it is 'broken'.
If it were 'broken', you would hear a loud cry across the land. The 8830 is still one of the premier corporate devices on the market (being replaced by the Tour now). If users on OS 4.5 couldn't tether, more than just you and MTS would know about it.

  • 4.5 BETA VERSION For The 8830

I found 4.5 for the folks that wanted to update the firmware on there 8830. Be aware it a BETA, try on your on risk. Tell me if it work or not so I can keep hosting it or take it off the server.

That's a pretty old beta (.51 was out a long time ago, .101 is the most recent "common" beta" right now). .51 was followed by .66, .77 and then .101 (I've used them all and they've gotten progressively better).
RIM gets pretty choked when betas show up on other Boards. I don't think they'd take too kindly to it being on their own.

    System Configuration Details (Blackbery)
    8830 World Edition (Verizon)
    Blackberry Dvice S/W:  v4.2.2.196 (Platform 3.0.0.84)
    System Config Details (Computer)
    Windows XP Pro (V 2002) SP3

    AMD Turion 64 X2 Mobile
    1 GB RAM
    Currently Running Desktop Manager V4.6.0.12
    Lotus Notes V 6.5.5
I have been attempting to get synchronization to work on the above configuration for several days now. I initially had installed Desktop Manager V4.6, then stepped back to loading the Verizon supplied V4.3. I then did a clean install per instructions on this board, including removal of the Registry keys for RIM and reloaded back to V4.6.
Sync works when a one-way push to the device, and when two-way in everything EXCEPT Calendar. As soon as I do a two-way sync of the Calendar, the system crashes (Unhandled Win32 Exception). I have Visual Studio running on the machine but the debugger is not providing any information (although I concede not waiting for a long time...I close after about 45-60 seconds).
The device is pretty useless for me without calendar sync so I am sort of frustrated at this point.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Hi...
This is usually indicating an issue in your calendar possibly on the BB Handheld.
    Backup your device.
Go to Backup / Advanced and clear your calendar
Configure your PIM to do a 1 way sync from Lotus to BB.
Remember to reset your 1 way sync to 2 way.
    Retry full intellisync.
If this does not work, you may have an issue with a calendar entry.
One item of interest, Lotus 6.5 can support wireless sync of calendar. Have you recently been setup on the Blackberry?
You may want to check with your BES admin and see if your setup for wireless = True. (assumption that your on BES)
Let us know how your doing...

  • Java error appears intermittently on 8830

I have a user here who randomly gets an error message as follows:
Uncaught exception: Unpaired graphics.pop(paint) in class
    net.rim.device.apps.api.messaging.messagelist.
    messageListvariableHeightListField actual 4!=expected 6 clip
    (0.50)+(320.180) @(0,0)
There is no specific Java error code; has anyone seen this before? Thanks!
This is an 8830, and we are running BES 4.1 with GroupWise.

    I'm getting the same error.
I'm testing my application on the 8310 (verizon) simulator.
In my app, i programmatically open the default Blackberry Message editor using Invoke.InvokeApplication(...). As I exit this screen, i get the same error you've mentioned!!
    Any resolutions? Wot causes this?
    Regards.

Im starting a job monday that is going to require international travel (thus the reason im getting the 8830, im with Verizon)
    Questions:
    1. If i dont unlock my phone what do I gain/lose? Why should I do this?
    2. If i pop a sim in from another carrier, say vodaphone, will I get a new number, aka a euro specific number?
    3. What will be the best way to call back to the states? Id really like to use my cell phone to be able to be able to call home. Would a sim card from euro let me call home? Is prepaid the best way to go so I avoid some huge charges?
    4. Will the 8830WE work all over, Ive only seen people who goto europe but i know that Ill be traveling to every continent (spare antartica) will the phone work in all of these places?
    5. Im trying my best to stay with verizon as its been very reliable to me or should i switch to a GSM carrier.
Any advice is greatly appreciated, this will be my first blackberry and am looking forward to it!

  • 8830 with softward upgrade, sounds like a transform when i am answering the phone.

So wild, when someone call and I hit the green button it sounds like a that sound the transforms make. OR sounds like someone is putting their microphone upto a speaker. I wonder if anyone is having this issue also. 8830 on Bell Mobility, just got the phone as an RMA.
PS- this is my 5th unit this year so I am trying to make sure its not a software issue before I lose it on Bell and RIM.

See earlier post re TINNY SOUND ON 8800 AFTER SOFTWARE UPGRADE.
I've had problems since upgrading 8800 software from ver 4.2,  to ver. 4.5.  So far, no help from BB (RIM) or Rogers.
    Good luck.

  • So, 4.5 for my 8830????????

My carrier (Telus) is telling me that RIM supplies it, messages on RIM's site says it's my carrier.
Im trying to support 45 Blackberries that were purchased with the assurance of our vendor that "4.5 will be out soon" 2 months ago.
I have 40 lawyers who don't understand why HTML formatted emails won't work, antennas that are powering off "to conserve the battery" and messing up the sync when the antenna is turned back on plus a few other issues.  All of which are supposedly fixed with 4.5.
So, when can I get 4.5?
I'm really starting to wish we delayed that purchase.  I'm starting to think they'll come out with an enterprise email solution for the iPhone before I see 4.5 on my BlackBerry.

No carriers have released OS 4.5 for the 8830 model. You should speak (sternly) with whomever fed you that line. RIM creates the OS, your carrier releasess it. Telus is the one holding up here, because the beta versions are floating around.
It is around the corner (and floating around the internet) but just no official release of that OS for that model.
Your lawyers are smart people, just remind them that beta OSs are not legally released software versions.
And, OS 4.5 nor any OS will enable your user to keep the radio on under 15% charge. If they are complaining about that, they need to buy an additional charger for their office or car. Topping off the battery from time to time is recommended for these type Li-Ion batteries.

  • BlackBerry 8830 World Edition V5 upgrade?

Does anyone know if there is an ETA on when the 8830 will be getting the upgrade th V5? I need flag for followup badly.

    Hello,
If RIM has released it to the carriers, then they are in control of their own release cycle. No one who knows is truly allowed to release forward looking information such as you are requesting.

  • Blackberry 8830 & Oracle Connector?

    Hi,
Has anyone else tried syncing the Verizon Blackberry 8830 with Oracle Connector for Outlook? I tried installed the BBDM patch from Oracle....but that only seems to work with BBDM 4.1. BBDM 4.2.2 is required for the 8830. Anyone have any workarounds? Or have you had any luck getting this to work?
    --Bill

FYI - I don't think you HAVE to have BBDM 4.2.X for
the 8830s (or any other BB for that matter).
Usually you need the install CD to get the device
driver so that Windows recognizes the device
correctly but after that you can use BBDM 4.1 (with
the Oracle Patch) and Outlook 2003 to sync contacts
    and calendar entries.
I do it every day with my 8100 and setup a customer
yesterday with his 8300. We've yet to run across a BB
that wouldn't use an older version. You do lose some
functionality (Media Manager for one) but generally
thats OK with business users.I can't get this work, maybe you could post intstructions for what has worked in the past?
This doesn't seem to work with the 8830. I install the Desktop Manager 4.1...and it doesn't recognize the device. So I install the .msi package for Blackberry Device Manager 4.2 or the .msi package for "USB & Modem Drivers 4.2". It appears to install properly...but during the install, it removes the Desktop Manager 4.1. If I try to reinstall 4.1 minus the device manager, it will not let me...that is a requited component.
Has anyone had any luck? This is very very frustrating.
I talked to Oracle support a few weeks back, and they said that RIM purposely locked out 3rd party vendors with this release. I have sent a letter to RIM asking them to work with vendors such as Oracle. So if you are having the same issue, please do the same!
