890FXA GD-65 won't POST after PSU upgrade

Two days ago, I upgraded my PSU from a 750W Corsair to a 1000W Cooler Master (in preparation for a second 6970 coming in on Tuesday). After switching them out and powering the machine on for the first time with the new PSU, it seemed to power on normally, but I wasn't getting any video. Thinking I may have not connected the GPU's power correctly, I powered down the system and double-checked my connections. Well, there weren't any issues, so I tried powering on again. This time, all I got were spinning fans (including the CPU fan), HDD spinning up and two phase LEDs blinking. Didn't even get the usual startup noise.
I spent my free time the last two days testing each component that I could in an older AM2+ system (this means the CPU, GPU and PSU), and they all checked out fine. I even tried powering the 890FXA with my old 750W PSU with the same results and checked the board for bad caps and found none.
The only thing I couldn't test is the RAM (besides reconfiguring the sticks in the DIMM slots, testing each stick individually, etc.), since the AM2+ board only takes DDR2 and the 890FXA only takes DDR3, so at this point, I'm thinking it's either the RAM or the board itself. My question is - before I go out and buy a stick of DDR3 to test or RMA either the board or the RAM, is this behavior consistent with a fried board or bad memory? I've never had RAM go bad on me before and the only fried mobo I've ever dealt with wouldn't even power on. Would bad RAM result in failure to POST, and moreover, what's the likelihood of all three sticks going bad at once?
Thanks for the help.

A number of PSU calcs said I'd be cutting it close on the 750, especially since I was planning on adding another two 500gb caviar blacks to my RAID setup as well, and the 1000 was on sale at the time so I figured I'd rather upgrade now and spend less.
Anyway, yes, the CPU power connection was fine, I did do a CMOS reset and I tested the board outside the case. I even tested it without a GPU, CPU and memory, all with the same exact results. Testing it without memory made me realize it very well could be bad memory, but last night I had a friend lend me a known working stick of DDR3 with no luck.
I'm pretty much convinced it's an issue with the board itself now, being that all the components that matter have been tested independently and checked out alright. Probably time to get an RMA.

  • HP 8710W Won't Post After Firmware Upgrade

I was having power saving issues with my 8710W so I decided to try updating the firmware.
After the firmware update the laptop now powers on and beeps once but there is no hard drive activity and no video output.
I tried restoring to the oldest and newest firmware by creating a bootable floppy with the firmware using the tool on the HP website.  I then powered on the laptop while holding win+F.  The drive reads for about 2 minutes and then about a minute later the laptop reboots but nothing.
I also tried resetting the BIOS setting by booting up while holding all four arrow keys.  Nothing changes.
I contacted HP support but they won't help because there is no serial number listed on the bottom of the laptop.
Is there anything I can try?

    Hi,
Which media did you use to create a bootable one? disc, or floppy, flash drive?
If you can make sure the bootable media is available, I advise you keep tapping F9 key when you power on the unit ASAP.
Thereafter you have entered into advanced boot option,  and choose the corresponding boot device attaching your media to update the BIOS.
    Good luck !

  • Satellite S50 won't POST after memory upgrade

    Hello, all:
I just purchased a brand-new 8gb Kinston memory stick (KTT-S3C/8G) for my one-month-old Satellite S50 (S50-ABT3N22). Slot A contains the standard issue 4GB stick that came with the unit so I put this into Slot B. When I install it, the machine refuses to POST. Kind of odd. So, I swapped the DIMMS and it still doesn't POST.
Any idea what's going on? The DIMM is brand-new. On the Kingston label, it also has a Toshiba PN PA5037U-1M8G.
Any info would be helpful. I'm hoping the DIMM isn't bad.

no worries.  Lots of folks miss the fact that their computer is spec'd with the "L" which stands for low voltage type of ram.  That's what the "L" stands for in the DDR3L 1600MHz.  You can likely run faster ram (or overclock to a faster speed if the bios allows) but you need to adhere to the voltage requirements, as well as the timings.

  • K7N2GM-V won't POST after shut down

    Hi all.
I just did my first build on a K7N2GM-V and it won't POST after I shut down. When I hit the power button, PSU does not turn on, fans do not turn on, nothing happens. If I wait about 10-15 minutes, then it will POST and boot normally to my XP Pro SP1. Nobody seems to have had this problem and I am stumped.
Could it be due to my power supply? My PSU is the one that came with the X-QPack, which claims +3.3V(18A), +5V(22A), +12V(20A), -5V(0.3A), -12V(0.8A), +5VSB(2.0A). I don't have a spare PSU to test this with.
Any ideas? Please let me know what additional information might be needed.
    Thanks.

  • Mac mini won't boot after RAM upgrade.

Tried installing new RAM in my Mac Mini, 512MB stock to 2GB of Crucial. Followed the directions to a T, grounded myself the whole time.
    Things I've tried so far:
    1. Resetting the PRAM, no luck.
    2. Holding option at start-up, shows no icon.
    3. Holding shift, no luck.
    4. Holding X, nothing.
How do I get it to accept a CD if it won't boot?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
You clearly have a problem, but you don't describe exactly what that is other than that your mini won't boot after the upgrade. What happens when it starts up? Does it attempt to start and hang up on the grey or blue screens, or does it start beeping at you almost immediately after you try and start it up, and also flash the power light?
If the former, then you may have dislodged a connector while working inside the system, in which case opening it up and checking that everything is firmly connected would be the first thing to do. If the latter, then the beeping/light flashing is the system telling you it has failed the power-on self test and the pattern of beeps/lights indicates why. In your case likely the system can't find workable memory. In that instance, opening the system and ensuring that the RAM is firmly and fully seated would be a good step, and if the mini continues to fail, then replacing the new RAM with the original to test that the system will then start.
It is not likely that anything had damaged your MacOS install in the process of upgrading, thus normally no reason to need to boot to CD as a result of a RAM issue.

  • IMessages won't open after Mavericks upgrade

iMessages won't open after I upgraded to Mavericks. I keep getting prompted to "enter the keychain password," but I never created a keychain. I never used it before the upgrade, and I skipped the step during the upgrade because I did not want to use keychain and it was an option to skip it during set up.

    HI,
The OS X Mac have been using Keychains for a long time.
In the Applications/Utilities folder open Keychain Access.
This should show you at least two keychains.
The Login one for your Mac User account and the System one.
Generally speaking the Keychain keeps the passwords used by various apps and it needs to be Open.
In most cases the Login password for the Mac Account user is also the password that opens the Keychian when the computer is started up.
As each Mac User Account owns it's own Keychain there can be issues when you drag an account from one computer to another rather than using Migration Assistant.
i.e. you might Own it on one computer but not on another.
In the Finder > Go Menu hold down the ALT key and select the Library that appears.
In the library navigate to Keychains.
Click to highlight the Login one.
Now use the CMD and i keys together (Get Info)
At the Bottom unlock the padlock
Highlight the name that has (me) next to it (it should be your Shortname).
Once you have highlighted this use the cogwheel item at the bottom.
This should be greyed out but saying "Make you (Me) the Owner."
You should also have Read and Write permissions like in the Pic.

  • P7N Mobo won't POST after a month, revisited

recieved new (not really new, it's been installed in something before) mobo from 2nd RMA, still no boot.  amazing that the serial number was only sequence numbers away from the original.  anyhow, system again 'barebones'd and still no POST.  even tried a plain jane PCI video card to no avail.  i'm shocked.  MSI again offered to RMA, at this point what's the use?  i ordered EVGA's model instead.  at least they'll cross-ship if there's something wrong.
so, what are my options now except to RMA again?  i don't want this board anymore, i'd rather have my dough back but i'm afraid it's $150 up in smoke.
guess i'll go try and find a port80 card from my lab and see if that'll tell me anything, because i'm pretty much done waiting for this thing to ever work right and so far sending it back 2x hasn't gotten me anywhere.

    a bit of background:
Firstly, I'm a BIOS architect, so i'm not new to building/debugging systems.
system was originally working in following config:  2x1GB Patriot DDR2 800 (4-4-4-12, 2.1V set via BIOS), Q9300 2.5GHz (no overclock, stock voltages for everything else), 700W p/s, Zotac 8800GT 512MB PCIe 2.0 video, Samsung IDE DVD drive (master in IDE1), WD 40GB IDE drive (master IDE0), Seagate 160GB SATA I (SATA 1 port), PS2 keyboard/mouse, ethernet.
when the WD started to go (the OS disk) i cloned it to an 80GB Seagate SATA II laptop drive i had and ran that until i got a real replacement drive.  The 80GB seagate went into SATA port 1 and the 160 moved to SATA 2.  DVD i think i moved to IDE0.  Things worked fine.  New Seagate 250GB SATA II 3.5" drive arrived and i cloned the 80GB to that and swapped it into SATA port 1.  THis is where the trouble started.
Upon rebooting, the system didn't come up all the way.  I rechecked my drive connections and rebooted.  The BIOS posted and indicated it had restored defaults due to 3x failed attempts to boot.  (Of course this was only 2 boots, but i didn't pay much attention).  I set the memory timing back to 4-4-4-12, 2.1V and checked all others (looked fine) and rebooted.  system never posted after that.
Only thing system appears to do is power up and the CPU fan runs.  Putting a 4 pin fan has the fan start up fast, then slows down (which to me says BIOS is booting enough to turn down the fan via the fan controller).
Figured it was a p/s issue, so tried one i had laying around, no POST.
Figured it was CPU problem, got a new one and tried again, no POST.
Thought perhaps it was a p/s issue again (the second one i had was pretty old, but came from a formerly working system), bought a brand new BFG 650W and tried again, no POST.
I then tried everything in the troubleshooting guides, removed from system to anti-static mat (i have a wrist 'leash' and the mat is properly grounded to house ground), and tried all combinations of no disk drives, no memory, single memory, tried old PCI video card, all no POST.
RMA'd mobo.  They repaired something (didn't indicate what).  Got system back, plugged it all back together and powered up, no POST.
Tried all troubleshooting tricks again, no POST.
RMA'd again, this time requested completely new mobo.
Got system back, plugged it all back together and powered up, no POST again!
    Ordered EVGA mobo.
Got *another* RMA after talking to MSI tech support live.  The only thing that he could suggest is that perhaps the new drive caused some problem to the board.  This might be plausible, but SATA being hot pluggable, i wouldn't think that this could be an issue ever, even if i did plug it in while the system was on (which i didn't, every insertion/removal has been with system disconnected from power (removed A/C cable from p/s)).
Does *anyone* have any ideas that i might try?
(This is a system that's supposedly tested ok from MSI, and since i've got a different board coming if someone would like to toss me $100 i'd sell it rather then send it back).  I'd rather keep it and get it working since i've spent my hard-earned cash and time on it already, but at this point it's been 6 weeks and i can't be without a desktop for any longer.

I have an AP350 and after I upgraded the IOS to 12.2.15-JA it won't boot. In monitor mode it tells me there are no bootable images available. I see the new image there. I was having issues with the authentication on this box. This was the reason to upgrade the box to begin with. Now I have more problems here. If anyone can help please I could use it. The old directory where 12.2.13-JA1 was in is not there and the new image is not in a directory either if that helps.

I upgraded the NFL app for my Blackberry Curve and it had me reboot. When I did that, it got to the start screen with the meter on the bottom, which fills up, but it doesn't go any further.
I've done the battery pull and left it out, restarted using alt-right shift-del numerous times, but it always gets stuck at the same place. I have a new computer and loaded the blackberry desktop, but it cannot recognize my phone because it does not fully boot.

+After you have successfully installed a firmware update, AirPort Utility will wait for the AWD to restart. Unless you intentionally wish to change some configuration of one of your apple Wireless Devices, you do not need to click Continue. At this point, simply quit AirPort Utility. Your AWD should be functioning correctly.+

I chose firmware: Airport Extreme with 8-2.11n (Fast Ethernet) 7.3.2 Be patient, as Airport Utility will report that it can't find the AEBS, but after a short while mine was back. I did not roll back my version of Airport Utility.
All appears to be normal and the iTunes library is rebuilding as I type this. Hopefully, Apple will figure out what's causing the problem with firmware 7.4.1
