890GXM-G65 and Phenom II X2 555

Hey guys.  Just picked up the following combo and I'm having a hard time unlocking the other cores on this chip.  I already updated to Bios 1.6 but when I set the core unlock to enabled, and reboot, the system will not post.  Any ideas?

Quote from: Henry on 06-May-10, 07:28:08
Did you update to BIOS 1.6 right off the bat without trying to unlock the cores 1st? After all unlock cores was in BIOS 1.2 and if your MB had that already there was no need to update BIOS for it. As far as I know the main reason for 1.6 was 6 core CPU support. Aside from that I hope that you understand that not all of the Ph. ll X2's will successfully unlock, there's no guarantee it will happen.
The board shipped with version 1.0 and I upgraded to 1.4 then to 1.6.  I understand that not all of them unlock but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something like extra voltage etc...

    Hey!
I wanted to know if my 790GX-G65 supports Phenom II X6 1100t?
I tried the CPU support tool, but it didn't find any mobos that support it. So I don't think that tool is very up to date... According to the tool my mobo does support 1090t version thou, so if you jump to conclusions it might support 1100t too! :D
    Thanks for help!

Interesting! I've been wondering this myself. The CPU Test Report is outdated. It only shows CPUs that test okay with the 790GX-G65 up to the v4.2 update. Version 4.4 is out, and still no update to the CPU Test Report for BIOS versions 4.3 and 4.4. I just contacted MSI about this, but I'm wondering since the "outdated" CPU Test Report doesn't show support, whether I'll get another "No"?

  • 890gxm-g65 and AM3+ support

My computer has a gigabyte board and am getting ready to upgrade my CPU from the FX-4100 to the 6300 piledriver...
My nephew lives with me and is an amateur computer ethusiast ...  I myself have never done anything with bios updates and such but here is my question
His board is the MSI 890gxm-g65, it normally supports the am3 socket CPUs..  but looking at MSI's website.. it says with a bios update it can support AM3+ CPUs.. according to Everest Ultimate..  his current bios version is 1.6..  I am wondering if that bios will support the FX-4100 or if i need to get him an updated bios version and need to better understand how to update or "flash" the bios..  any help would be appreciated..  thank you in advance
also i know this is an old question..  the AM3+ support for these boards came out a couple years ago..  I am just new to bios updating and flashing..  and not sure how to proceed..  I know that this particular board will support the AM3+ socket CPUs..  but i am not sure his boards BIOS is the right version or not

That MB requires at least BIOS 1.C for FX-4100.
     Download BIOS file here:

Use the forum flash tool to flash the BIOS, see here how to do it:

  • 790GX-G65 and Phenom II-955BE anyone else have this? no voltage options

Hi I am new to this site...I have gotten this board and the CPU too...
    anyone else have this combo...?
I booted it with a Athlon II-250 and all was great so i grabbed a 955BE and cleared the CMOS and proceeded to fire this puppy up...
so far its booted everytime without a hitch...
Only issue so far is ALL the voltage options are Grayed out...
not sure which BIOS I have but I have DL'd the MSI USB tool and the latest BIOS so we'll see what happens...
it boots at the default 200x16 but not anything more...
hopefully a BIOS update lets me get the options to clock this puppy up some more...

You can RMA all you like....but looking at the manual is far more interesting:
    The grey section reads:
    Quote
    PC Health Status
CPU/ System Temperature, CPU FAN/ SYS FAN1/ SYS FAN2 Speed, CPU
     Vcore, 3.3V, 5V, 12V
These items display the current status of all of the monitored hardware devices/
components such as CPU voltage, temperatures and all fans’ speeds.
The only mention of power I read here:
    Quote
      CPU Phase Control
When set to [Auto], the hardware will auto adjust the CPU power phase according to
the loading of CPU to reach the best power saving function.
No mention anywhere about voltages....did you ever open the manual at all?
Simply put, there are NO Voltage options in the BIOS, so RMA will give the exact same board with the same options.
Check a manual before you buy or complain about a board, all info is in there.

  • 890GXM-G65 with Phenom II x4 960T

As the title says, I would like to know if the two are compatible, since the 960T is not listed on the compatibility list for the mobo. I`m asking this because i`m having a hard time to find a 955, and as far as I can find near my home, the 960T is cheaper.
What I know is that this mobo is compatible with the 1090T and the 955

Also, can I use the forum's email to enter the MSI online costumer service?
If not, where do I register?
Simply enter your email address into the email box on the OCSS page. If you have not used OCSS before, it will ask you for a few details first. Then whenever you use OCSS again, just enter the same email address to access again.

Look for smart fan option in bios
+1 - but even with smart fan enabled the stock AMD heatsink is quite loud on a hexa-core.  If it's still too loud after enabling smart-fan you'll want to look at an aftermarket cooler.

Is the router gigabit on the LAN ports? The router will limit you.

there are 4 aps leds above the CPU. They are always lit no matter what. And bios defaults to disabling the APS feature. And per mobo manual, ther are only two phases, 1 led lit for power saving and 4 lit for full load.
Bios defaults are disabled for the APS, enabled for cool and quiet.
Will i see any difference if i enable it? Should i enable it? Or just leave it disabled.

    HI,
maybe you are having this problem because the feature is not working in BIOS. After updating the BIOS on my 790fx-gd70 I also noticed that APS didn't work any longer. I contacted support but haven't heard from them yet.
You can however turn Phase Switching on after boot-up using "Green Power Center" in Windows.

  • 890GXM-G65 working with 1,6v RAM - Is that ok?

Hello, folks. I built my first rig last year, with the 890GXM-G65, and I am considering a few updates, which made me realize that I made a mistake  . Now that I am more aware of things in a rig, I saw that my mainboard requires 1,5v RAM, but I have 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1.333MHz TW3X4G1333C9 G (1,6v). I read somewhere that using memory with voltage higher than the mainboard can compromise or even burn the processor. Is that right? Is the 1,6v RAM putting my processor or the mainboard at risk?
I will replace the RAM for 4 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 (1,5v), but I don’t know if I can wait a little bit or if I should replace the RAM as soon as possible. All in all, my computer is working fine since day one, but I don't know if the mistake with the RAM is lowering its performance. Or maybe I was expecting too much of my Phenon II 1090T
    Here is my rig:
    - Windows XP (Win7 is driving me nuts)
    - 890GXM-G65 (no OC whatsoever)
    - 2 x 2GB Corsair DDR3 1.333MHz TW3X4G1333C9 G
    - Phenom II 1090T
    - Sapphire HD 6870
    - HD (OS) Seagate Barracuda 320GB
    I appreciate any comments,

I your Bios, if you look in the Cell Menu, there are available adjustments for memory. You can run 'Auto' or set specs to match your Memory specs, or Overclock. Although the manual States 1.5v, it is the Auto basics and can support 1.5v sticks. I looked at MSI under 'Test Report' and your current Corsair memory is on the tested list, as OK to use. If you memory specs ask for a different voltage value, you can manually set the voltage in your Bios under DRAM Voltage(V). Never adjust into the RED values. Setting to the suggested voltages for your sticks is proper, any other choice is Overclocking, or Underclocking. You can also set the timing and 1T/2T. Again this information is available at Corsair for your memory sticks. Do not think that MSI tested and qualified memory sticks are to be set at 1.5v, if the sticks call for a different voltage. At Corsair it shows TW3X4G1333C9G stick as 1.5v (you say 1.6v) and timing of 9-9-9-24. Double check at corsair to verify the values. That said if they are infact 1.6v memory sticks, then set the DRAM voltage to 1.6v. I do not see the Corsair Vengeance DDR3 CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9 sticks at MSI test list as tested. That doesn't mean you can't use them.. just not on the tested list. You can verify that at Corsair.
    Good Luck

I try to install Windows 7 x86 from DVD or USB. It goes through the first Black and White window extracting files, then it proceeds to the first 'Starting Windows' and reboots. Tried Safe mode, and it fails on DISK.sys and reboots everytime.
I have checked all settings in the bios, tried disabling C&Q, disconnected the DVD and tried from just USB. Replaced Sata cables, tried different Sata ports. Tried with 1 DDR3 module. Same result.
I did a google and found some people had issues with their PSU, they replced it and resolved the issue, however my PSU is a cheapo 500w, not the same as mentioned by other people.
Anyone have a solution for reboots caused by DISK.SYS during install?

There is no such board [890GXM-GD65]

  • 890GXM-G65 front panel - AC' 97 or HD audio?

Hello, folks. I bought an 890GXM-G65 and I am having a doubt regarding the installation. The audio connector from the front panel splits in two. One connector reads “AC’ 97” and the other “HD Audio”. My motherboard manual says nothing about which one should I use to plug into the JAUD1.
I have been researching and looks like AC’ 97 is from AMD boards and HD audio is from Intel boards. Is that correct? Should then I use the connector AC’ 97?
    I appreciate any help!
    Cheers,

  • 890GXM G65 Phenom II X6 BIOS query

Hi. I didn't get the required information from the sticky regarding thuban support for the above mentioned board, so I've created a new thread. I have a plan of buying AMD Phenom II X6 1055T processor and MSI 890GXM G65 board. The board at the time of release didn't have the support for thubans, so most probably I'd need to get a BIOS update for the installation of the thuban CPU. My question is, Will it boot with the thuban CPU even without the bios update? I'm asking this because I don't have an old AMD CPU to carry out the BIOS update process. If it doesn't boot, the it's a complete waste of money. Thanks in advance...

I was afraid of this combo but my results were fine. I bought the combo at Frys and it came with bios version 1.4 and booted and worked fine through windows, but it would not recognize cpu speed accurately after overclock( had nothing to do with amd cool feauture) After 1.6 bios update its recognized flawlessly. You shouldnt need to have another processor to do a bios update,it should still allow you to boot to bios.
This is guide i followed to flash bios successfully with bootable usb
