For Dual Channel Operation:
* When I populate the recommended DIMM1 & DIMM2 Slots with 2Gb sticks, the system will not even POST.
* Populate just one stick in DIMM1 = normal POST & normal Boot into Windows 7.
* Populate one stick in DIMM1 & one stick in DIMM3 = again, normal POST & Boot.
Who's wrong here?

890GXM-G65 - How to install SB850 drivers in Win7

I purchased the 890GXM-G65 mobo. I want to install the sata controller (southbridge chipset) drivers from AMD. I basically want to get maximum performance from my sata controller. I tried AMD drivers but had problems with installation. Also, do I need the drivers and application. Is better to use the default windows based AHCI driver or the AMD AHCI driver? Thanks

I downloaded the AMD drivers: catalyst, ahci and SB. The SB drivers installation work halfway, and then they crash. I get a driver fail on installation. Not sure why. The sata controller device is correct AMD SATA Controller. I guess I need to see detailed instructions to make sure that I am doing this correct. Maybe safe mode. Any suggestions?! 890GXM-G65 BIOS update failure

I just assembled a PC with the 890GXM-G65 motherboard, 4 GB Kingston DDR3-1333 memory (2x KVR1333D3N9/2G), Athlon II X2 245 processor, Nvidia 8500GT video card. BIOS revision was 1.6. Although I intended to do a clean Windows 7 x64 install later, initially and with only minor adjustments I was able to successfully boot from my HDD transplanted from my old PC with Windows 7 x86.
I decided to update to BIOS 1.7 because I built this system in an emergency and on a tight budget, hence the Athlon II X2 and the reused old video card and HDD, but I intend to upgrade to a Phenom II X6 and a better card soon, and I remembered having seen the information on MSI's Web site, on the processor compatibility list, that revision 1.7 was required to support hexa-core processors. Later I found that the information on that page had been corrected to a mere version 1.2, but by then it was too late.
I downloaded the ZIP file with the BIOS 1.7 update (7642v17.zip) from MSI's Web site and extracted it. I tried to run the executable (AFUD4310.EXE) from within a Windows 7 command prompt, but I saw a message that the program could not run in that OS. I tried to perform LiveUpdate from MSI's site, but apparently it wasn't compatible either (Windows 7 and IE 8), because nothing happened and it kept returning to the same screen, even though I had enabled all ActiveX options for MSI's site. Then I saved the BIOS binary (A7642AMS.170) to a FAT-formatted USB stick and tried M-Flash from BIOS.
The BIOS recognized the file but said there was a "ROM dismatch" (sic). I canceled it, rebooted, re-downloaded the file, calculated the MD5 hash for the BIOS binary both on my HDD and on the USB stick and they matched, which rules out any problem with the file copy process or the USB stick hardware. I repeated the M-Flash process and since I had double-checked that the ROM file was correct, I saved my old BIOS to the same USB stick and let the flashing proceed.
The BIOS flash process went normally through the end ("Erasing ROM," "Writing ROM," etc.), with the message that the PC would reboot after 5 seconds. Which, of course, it didn't. Other than the blue LEDs and the processor fan spinning, nothing happens. Not even the GPU fan spins, and the same video card still works perfectly in my old PC, which of course I had to re-assemble - I'm writing from it now and using the same video card. I tried everything, in desperation including resetting the BIOS jumpers and removing the battery, even though I knew that's for misconfigured BIOS parameters, not for a corrupted BIOS.
Now, you don't have to tell me that a BIOS upgrade is risky. I know it, and only did it because I thought I had a good reason - to make my new PC ready for the upgrade I intend to do soon. But first, I wouldn't have done it without the incorrect information that was on MSI's Web site. Second, one expects a BIOS update to go without problems if you have the correct binary ROM file from the motherboard's manufacturer and there are no power outages or other problems that interrupt the process. Both these requisites were met. Yet now my brand-new mobo (which I stressed my limited budget to get exactly because of the X6 support and new 890GX chipset) appears to be dead.
Do I have just an expensive paperweight and a considerable loss in my bank account, or is there still hope? Can anything still be done to save my motherboard? Thanks a lot for any possible help.

No, that is called marketing. In most cases, there are no problems with M-Flash whatsoever. However, in too many other instances there have been problems with M-Flash, that is why we warn against using it, to be on the safe side. You can either ignore these warnings and take your chances (probably 95% success rate) or take them seriously and update the BIOS the DOS-Way and increase the success rate to 99.9999%. It is up to you. 890GXM-G65 - Who has it?

i got the 890GXM-G65, but i have quiet some problems. Getting blue screens all the time.
Im pretty sure its my memory, G.Skill RipJaws DIMM Kit 4GB PC3-10667U CL7-7-7-21
Tried to change the timings and voltage manually, but that didnt help.
Awesome msi support told me to update my bios with v1.0. Thx great help, thats the default bios....
Now im looking for people who have the same board and what memory they are using?

It's a bit of a no-brainer IMO.... but have you tried running the system with completely default settings in the BIOS? And not "Optimized" defaults either, but the (however it is worded with AMI) "Fail-safe Defaults". If you have (or haven't, doing this first would accomplish the defaults) clearing the CMOS via the jumper/button. There are kind of cached settings about your system that clearing the CMOS via jumper sometimes resolves.
Also if you'd rather not change BIOS settings right away, try booting into Safe Mode and see how long you last. There could be a driver issue or some other conflict preventing hardware for doing what it wants/needs and thus, BSOD.
Telling us what the BSOD error is would help too.

I have one in my 890FXA-GD70 board and it works fine (not on CPU support list for my board too, I notice), don't see why it shouldn't work in your 890GXM-G65 board also.

890GXM-G65 front panel - AC' 97 or HD audio?

Hello, folks. I bought an 890GXM-G65 and I am having a doubt regarding the installation. The audio connector from the front panel splits in two. One connector reads “AC’ 97” and the other “HD Audio”. My motherboard manual says nothing about which one should I use to plug into the JAUD1.
I have been researching and looks like AC’ 97 is from AMD boards and HD audio is from Intel boards. Is that correct? Should then I use the connector AC’ 97?

If you are still looking for one, cybertronpc is the only place I could find one retail, although pricey. It works great though, and 3 year warranty if retail. No warranty if bought used or on ebay or something like that. I had ordered at 3 other places only for them to get canceled, despite them saying they were in stock. I just bought it a little over a month ago and they only had about 10 left then. Could be out.

Not sure if MSI will support the board though, only AM3+ compatable board that didnt get a bios update for Vishera, although Vishera CPUs work. My FX-6300 wont run any faster than 1600 RAM in dual channel. It only supports up to 1866 in single channel and doesnt like any overclock of the FSB or RAM. I have tight timings at 1600 though, CL7.
Perhaps a bios update would make it more overclocking friendly, as even though it allows 2400mhz NB frequnecy, windows wont show 2400mhz, 2000mhz no matter what I change in the bios. Maybe something else that needs the bios update for.

890GXM-G65 alarm

Can someone tell me what the high-pitched alarm noise is the 890GXM-G65?
It's coming on in a new game I'm trying to play, but doesn't seem to be temperature related (core temp hasn't exceed 41 degrees, according to AMD OverDrive & SpeedFan) and motherboard temperature seems quite low too. What is the alarm for?

It's definitely not VGA. VGA temp is very low thanks to an aftermarket cooler.

Temp doesn't matter, as said before: either test with another VGA or with another PSU.

Only 12 GB RAM showing in BIOS of 890GXM-G65 when 16 GB RAM is installed

Just added 2 x 4 GM RAM of the identical type as the original 2 x 4 GB to my son's PC, motherboard 890GXM-G65.
Even after a BIOS flash to the latest version, the BIOS still only recognizes 12 GB RAM but Windows 8 confirms 16 GB is installed, with only 12 GB available.
Anyone have any suggestions on this one, to unlock/enable the additional RAM? Tried many things to no avail.

can be dead ram or dead slot or may be corrosion or dirty slot connector, try to find contact cleaner in electronic store to clean the slot ( without power of course )

Error installing windows 7 on 890gxm-g65 & phenom x6 1055T

hi, i've got a big issue, i've bought a new pc to assembly by myself but i'can't install any OS
my config is :
890gxm-G65 (ms 7642v1.00)
amd x6 1055t
2x2go ddr 3 kingston 1333mhz(9-9-9-24)
SSD corsair force60 go
HDD western digital 1to caviar green
sapphire radeon 5770 vapor-X
ocz modular psu 500W
i can't install any os i tried to ( Seven ultimate 32 and 64 bit, XP home sp3)
after the very first step of the install ( black screen with "Windows is loading files" on below), it freezed or a blue screen appeared with the error message ***STOP 0x000000000; 0x30000000; 0x50000 etc.
all my boot cd are well burnt (tested on another pc) i've tested the ram, the ssd, the hdd and the reader separately and everything work fine another pc.
my processor is not recognized by the bios, but i'didn't managed to flash the bios with M-flash.
If some could advice me, it would be great!!

Try physically inspecting the processor for any missing or bent pins. If you're going to flash the BIOS, make sure to do it with the forum's USB flashing tool. It has a 100% success rate and everybody that has used it (including myself) swear by it.

Hey guys,
So here are the issues Im having with this board.
Im running a system that I have put together over the last 2 years, its kind of transitioned from platform to platform...
amd x2 550 BE unlocks fine to x4 @ 3.6ghz (8 hours prime stable..)
890GXM-G65
G.SKill Ripjaws 1600 CL7
Corsair HX850
MSI GTX465 GE unlocked to GTX 470
P180 mini (all fan ports filled)
Corsair H50 CPU cooled with push pull S-Flex fans
I have used the ram, GPU and PSU all before in a few builds and they check out fine, the system seems to run load stable using furmark, PCmark, OCCT and Prime95.
First off this board refuses to let me change 60% of my voltages from auto? is there a trick to allow you to set your own voltage? its locked at 1.325 right now which is what auto is setting it at. I can change DRAM, NB and SB voltages but that is all, and even then if I choose a some voltages that way it will default back to auto.. (example if I set DRAM to 1.6 it goes to auto but 1.7 will stick.) Obviously for overclocking this is far from ideal.. I know this system has lots of overhead left in it but I cant touch it without unlocking the voltages.
Next up I keep getting random BSODs, code 124, 20, 50, and 1... I ran memtest and it seemed fine, when I prime I usually run a couple 8 hour sessions of blend and it seems fine, and this ram was rock stable before. The BSOD only seems to happen for the most part when the system is idle, over the past 2 months ive had it BSOD on me while playing a game once only. This cant be temp related as I monitor temps and they are all well within safe specs, CPU never goes over 52c under load, motherboard never peaks over 45c, video card runs very cool and I have a pretty agressive fan profile set up for it. When I try and boot with the ram in 2/3 slots instead of 0/1 it refuses to boot no matter what I do. Ram is also being run underclocked (1450 CL9...) due to having to lower clocks on the CPU to try and stablize... Im honestly ready to drop this platform and go back to the i3 I was using before, was worlds more stable and much easier to hold at 4.2ghz.

And then I read the sticky about changing the voltages... DOH!, problem would be that im running the sidewinder x6 sans number pad to save on keyboard tray space or else I might have figured it out...
Will have to test a few things to determin if that will help fix my BSOD.

Which BIOS version latest V1.8/V1.B for 890GXM G65

Hi All,
I bought a new AMD1090T (6Core) with MSI 890GXM-G65 mobo along with 4GB RAM.
System is working ideally under Win 7 32-bit however in 64-bit it is not recognizing my Hard Disk which is being detected in BIOS.
System is also lagging after updating all the softwares.
Can you guide me??

Is it the same hard drive that did not appear in Windows before (the "command failed" hard drive)? In case the answer is yes, then this sounds like a bad hard drive rather than a board or BIOS problem.
