890GXM-G65 windows 7 Setup - Reboot Loop

This is wierd.
I have:
MSI 890GXM-G65
AMD Phenom II 955BE
Geil 2x2Gb DDR3 1333 (Model GV34GB1333C7DC)
Pioneer DVR-218BLBK
WD Caviar Black 1TB Sata 6.0Gb/s HD
New self-build. Everything is installed, Bios reset, Bios configured (ver1.6). Auto Settings, no overclocking.
I try to install Windows 7 x86 from DVD or USB. It goes through the first Black and White window extracting files, then it proceeds to the first 'Starting Windows' and reboots. Tried Safe mode, and it fails on DISK.sys and reboots everytime.
I have checked all settings in the bios, tried disabling C&Q, disconnected the DVD and tried from just USB. Replaced Sata cables, tried different Sata ports. Tried with 1 DDR3 module. Same result.
I did a google and found some people had issues with their PSU, they replced it and resolved the issue, however my PSU is a cheapo 500w, not the same as mentioned by other people.
Anyone have a solution for reboots caused by DISK.SYS during install?

There is no such board [890GXM-GD65]

    IS there a jumper or something I am missing on the Hard drive? I didn't see any.
    Is their a non-raid Sata driver I need to load?

    Is this 32bit or 64bit Windows 7?
    Is the SATA controller set to IDE, AHCI or RAID in BIOS?
    If set to AHCI/RAID, you need to click on 'Load Driver' at the disk selection screen, and load the relevant ATI SB RAID driver from here:

  • Unattended WDS capture of Windows 7 reboot loop?

    Hi Folks,
    I am trying to capture a Windows 7 x64 SP1 image from an ESX 5.1 VM using W2K12 WDS server.
    It works fine reading the WDSCapture.inf file settings.  I start with Unattended=No, the fields are populated and the image capture is successful.  However, when I change Unattended=Yes, the VM boots up to the same boot file, into WinPE (starts
    a desktop window), but then immediately (and abruptly) reboots, PXE, select capture boot option, and continues to reboot.
    I've been following this article.  Anyone have suggestions how to stop this reboot and have it capture the image unattended?

    hi, i've got a big issue, i've bought a new pc to assembly by myself but i'can't install any OS
    my config is :
    890gxm-G65 (ms 7642v1.00)
    amd x6 1055t
    2x2go ddr 3 kingston 1333mhz(9-9-9-24)
    SSD corsair force60 go
    HDD western digital 1to caviar green
    sapphire radeon 5770 vapor-X
    ocz modular psu 500W
    i can't install any os i tried to ( Seven ultimate 32 and 64 bit, XP home sp3)
    after the very first step of the install ( black screen with "Windows is loading files" on below), it freezed or a blue screen appeared with the error message ***STOP 0x000000000; 0x30000000; 0x50000 etc.
    all my boot cd are well burnt (tested on another pc) i've tested the ram, the ssd, the hdd and the reader separately and everything work fine another pc.
    my processor is not recognized by the bios, but i'didn't managed to flash the bios with M-flash.
    If some could advice me, it would be great!!

    Try physically inspecting the processor for any missing or bent pins.  If you're going to flash the BIOS, make sure to do it with the forum's USB flashing tool.  It has a 100% success rate and everybody that has used it (including myself) swear by it.

  • 890GXM-G65 Boot issue (onboard video?)

    Well i was going to upgrade my computer with this mobo and a new video card and ofc new ram and cpu since i was still on ddr2 and dual core. well i go to put everything together and at first when i had the video card in there it was booting up fine with one beep every time it showed the bios thing. The first problem was though that after the post screen happened it sat there so long at the black screen with blinking cursor before going into the windows 7 setup, the cd drive kept spinning up in bursts during that long wait. And also the bios was only recognizing half the memory when i put them in slot 1 and 2 so now in slot 1 and 3 they are always recognized. Then after i got into the gui part of the w7 setup about halfway through it would either freeze or restart (mostly restart) but not part of the expected restarts that the windows installation does. So i took out the video card thinking maybe that was the cause and tried to just use the onboard video. Now when i try to boot it up all the fans start spinning, cd rom spins up but no signal is ever sent to the monitor like it was unplugged, and also i dont see any activity from the hdd based on the front led and also the keyboard never lights up (blue backlit keys) and mouse laser never comes on. I did get a chance to run memtest for a few passes and no errors, so not really sure what to do now. anyone experience something similar?

    psu: 700w coolmax psu (the same psu used in the last system so i know its not bad, maybe under rated?)
    and actually got a cmos checksum bad error one of the last times i was able to boot up

    well apparently it seems as if that might have been part of the issue, but it still wasnt fully resolved. I actually did have a 7200 1TB seagate drive in there that was plugged in to the psu but not connected via sata because i didnt want to make the mistake of wiping it. i unplugged the power from it and it booted up to the bios screen where ( i know i had previously set it to internal video after i took out the card ) it read pcie so then i changed that, rebooted and proceeded to install windows 7 ultimate.
    so i sucessfully install it all the way through but now it freezes every so often and actually got a bsod it memory dumped and restarted. it just randomly restarts like when i try to get my experience rating, and other stuff. i was able to install all the latest drivers and everything so im not exactly sure whats going on here.. could it be the PSU? or could it have something to do with my ram not being compatable or not being ran at the right voltage or other setting?
    I did a few different PSU calculators and none of them even came close to needing 700 w and i even selected 2 physical cpus just to see if that would push it over.. and i also ran my old system with no probs on it although it was only a dual core ddr2.
    I also have a front panel sound blaster x-fi plugged in
    Also the cpu temp is 30-34c every time i check in bios, so i dont think its a heat prob

  • 890GXM-G65 RAID 5 Issues (SB850)

    Hi all
    Hopefully you guys can help me, I am hours and hours into this by now.  My 890GXM-G65 does not want to cooperate with me to make a 3x4TB RAID 5 array using Seagate ST4000DM000 HDDs.  I can get it to build the array and it will show up in windows/RAIDXpert, I am able to do a quick format and it shows up in explorer.  So far so good.  Start to transfer data and within ~1 min RAIDXpert tells me the array went critical or it will BSOD with AHCIx64.sys as the error and DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. If I reboot the drive on port 3 is now shown as a single disk but it is there again and I can re-create the array.  RAIDXpert will show port 3 as disconnected if it does not BSOD and will re-appear after a reboot, but as a single disk just like when it does BSOD.
    Interestingly if I delete the Logical Drive and reboot, the single disk will come up as a failed array, as if it somehow got split off into its own Logical Drive, but it will not show as an LD when the main 2 disk part still exists.
    I have tried switching the drive around to isolate if it is a particular drive, but no matter what drive is connected it is always port 3 that is lost. 
    I have tried different cables, no luck.
    I have tried replacing the motherboard, no luck (yes I actually have a spare board, lol).
    I have even tried replacing the CPU as this one is somewhat old and abused, no luck.
    I have re-installed windows, no luck.
    I have tried a different PSU, no luck
    I have tried different RAM, no luck
    When I switch the controller to AHCI mode in the BIOS I am able to do a full format on each individual drive just fine so I believe the drives to be fine
    In RAID mode trying to use as individual drives, when I begin to transfer data to the drive on port 3 the drive simply disappears until a reboot.
    At this point I am completely confused, does the SB850 not support 4TB drives?  Before the reinstall I tried with 3x 500GB drives and it would still crash the system, but it would not kick a drive out of the array as consistently.  I have not had a BSOD since the windows reinstall however, only the RAIDXpert telling me the array failed.
    Does anyone have any advice or ideas at all?  I am completely baffled at this point to where I am looking at replacing the whole system or getting a RAID card, only issue is I only have the PCI slot free to put a card into.

    Looks like I'm the only one with this issue 
    I did some experimenting, basically trying different SSD make/model but otherwise keeping setup identical. Instead of Kingston V300 I attached Samsung 840 Pro 120GB to this system hoping that it could be SSD-controller specific problem. Unfortunately nothing has changed - I still have grave issues with waking up from S3 sleep. Now I'm inclined to believe that this is the problem with RAID controller on motherboard  rather than Kingston drive issue. Too bad, I like this motherboard but looks like I have to start thinking about replacing it with something else. Guess I would be looking at some other vendor/chipset then.

  • Y70 Touch Reboot Loop

    I run a Y70 Touch model with Windows 8.1.When I log on with my Windows Account (the only user registered on the system) I move onto the Start screen.  However, after a few seconds the system simply reboots and I need to log in again.This does not happen all the time - which confuses me.  When it happens, the only way I found to log in successfully is to shut the laptop down, wait a while, and then start it up and log in again.  This let's me gain access to the system, but the problem remains.Any advice out there?Thank you kindly.

Do the Windows restore operation and not the OneKey Recovery one. It should put you back to the condition before the update. Once you are in that condition, you can do a manual update. Do the update one by one so that you can isolate which of them is causing the problem. Once identified do the restore again and this time ignore the particular update.

  • BIOS 4.3 half flashed on MSI P67A-GD65 reboot loop ME not installed

    Hi, yesterday I tried to flash my bios from 1.19 (1.jo) to 4.3 and I followed the SOP guidelines. Made a flash fat32 got bios on it, started it, stopped all my applications under windows and it went with no error. PC Restarted and now it's in infinite reboot loop. The moment the MSI BIOS logo appears, the PC auto reboots.
    If I remove the usb drive or replace the bios file with another version it tells me it's not the file it needs. When I insert the one with the .43 file it goes back to reboot cycle. I tried resetting the CMOS with the button on the mainboard and I have this screen telling me BIOS is 4.3 and it has recognized all my 12gb ram, 2 hard drives and processor. Then it has press F1 to enter setup and press F2 to continue, both options result in reboot.
    I tried the 1.JO on flash, but it tells me again that it's the wrong file. Tried renaming it to amiboot as I found somewhere, but to no avail. Tried renaming the .43 to EIVB.bin as it was suggested in one forum, again no luck.

    I wasn't sure about the ME update, read that someone managed. The Live Update 6 did my 1.19 (1.JO) update. I tried all usb slots and 3 different sticks, formated them and so on. Nothing worked. I tried disconnecting all hard drives and DVD drive too.
    Is there a way to stop this cycle or to restore to the 1.19 version?

    Hey guys, I know there are a lot of ram posts here already and many more on the web but I have spent the last 3 days reading them and trying to follow their guides and nothing has worked for me so I want to see if there is anyone that can help me for my specific problem....
    Ok I built a new system with the 890GXM-G65 mobo and an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T processor. I am also installing a pair of G.Skill F3-12800CL7D-4GBRM memory sticks (I know these are designed for the Intel's but read many people using them for the AMD after changing the timings and loving the performance), I pulled my old 1TB hard drive out my other system to use in this one which already has Windows XP Pro installed.
    My problem is that the pc reboots after the windows loading screen. I have tried changing the timings in the "Advanced DRAM Configuation" in the CMOS (7-7-7-24, 7-8-7-24, 8-8-8-24, 9-9-9-24) and not had any improvements, I have tried using the OC Genie Lite to auto find the correct settings, I have changed DRAM voltages (1.5-1.65) and NB Voltage (1.3-1.35) I also have changed the FSB/DRAM Ratio from 1:3.33 to 1:4 to change from 1333 to 1600 with no change as well.
    I am able to log into Windows safe mode, in fact at first I thought it was a driver issue and loaded all the drivers in safe mode already.
    Another issue I see and dont understand is in the "Memory-Z" in the CMOS I never see any of the memory settings change even though I set them in the Advance config, is this supposed to change?
    Any help would be much appreciated, I am pretty sure its a memory issue from what I have seen on the web, I bought the memory from newegg.com and have a short time left that I could probably swap them out for something different if that is what I have to do, but I would really like to make these work.

    Download and install memtest86+ on a usb drive and boot from that. Do a 24hr memory test to tell you if the ram+cpu is good or not.
    After that if you don't want to mess with your original drive, install XP on a spare drive and see if it's stable.
    I'm using G.Skill Ripjaws with my 1055t and it's been stable so far.

    Few days ago i buy mobo 890GXM-G65, today  wanted to check S.M.A.R.T. on one of my hdd, and i have a surprise, smartctl gives me that answer:

  • 890GXM-G65 No onboard (realtek) analog sound

    About a month ago I saved up enough of my precious dollars to upgrade my slow, single core computer into something a bit more passable for this day and age.  The new computer is much better, but it is lacking something very important to me: sound.
    I can't hear any audio.  Windows, in all flavors, thinks the device is functional, while the Realtek control panel app swears up and down that I have not plugged anything into the back ports.  I've talked to my dealer, friends, one online forum, and finally found my way here, a forum dedicated to MSI boards that I somehow didn't come across earlier or I would've come here straight away.
    Well, without further ado, here are the specs:
    890GXM-G65 MS-8642 BIOS 1.B0
    AMD Athlon 2 X3 3.2Ghz
    Crucial 2x2GB CT25664BA1339A
    Antek25 650W +12V~38A, +5V~24A, +3.3V~24A
    XP Pro SP3 x86 / Server 2003 R2 x64 / *cough* 7 x86
    I have other hardware of course, but since I've been testing I've stripped it down to the bare essentials.
    I also found a very similar thread (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=151266.0).  It was resolved by putting in a different sound card, but that's not an option for me.
    As I've said, I've tried to figure this out with the help of others for some time now.
    Things I've tried:
    * Tried multiple OSes, including to my chagrin Windows 7.  I was going to try Delphi but the installer didn't like my setup, and well, this IS a gaming rig so it's not worth figuring out why.
    * Tried multiple drivers, both new, old, MSI, Realtek, and on 7 the default drivers, across all of the OSes above.
    * Tried jumping the front panel connector.  Supposedly you don't have to anymore, but just in case I shorted 5-6 and 9-10 to no effect.
    * Tried every combination of settings I could think of in the realtek manager, especially the one related to ignoring the front panel jack detection.
    * Tried removing, reluctantly, the board from the case.
    * Tried fresh install of 7 on the stripped down and removed board.
    * Tried RMAing the board after everyone concluded that the board was bad.  This was very painful.  I was without any reasonable computing power for a week.  To my great shock, this did not help and I am right back where I was last month.
    Things I can't try:
    * Testing the front panel audio (I don't have any such connector; JAUD1 is open)
    * Testing the digital out (again, no such equipment)
    Things that people always ask just in case (if there's a stupidly easy thing I've missed though go ahead and ask it--I sometimes miss stupidly easy things):
    * Is the on-board sound enabled in the BIOS?  Yes it is.
    * Do the speakers work?  Yep.  Worked since the 90s, works in laptop today.
    * On 7 did you switch it from digital out to analog out?  Yes, sort've.  The analog out options couldn't be selected normally, but I could select the headphones option if I disabled the front panel jack detection.  Not having a front panel, I was not surprised to find that this didn't work (though the green volume bar was moving).  A 'disable rear jack detection' setting would be very nice.
    I am stumped, as is everyone else I've asked--we all thought the old board must have been defective but getting a new, equally incapable board seems to put that theory to rest.  I'm well past the point where I'd normally write it off and use a spare sound card, but this board only has one PCI slot, and it is occupied.  The only available slot is the second PCI-E 16 slot, and I don't think they make sound cards for that.  And even if they did I really don't have the money to buy anything new; I've already sunk more than I budgeted for on this.
    Any ideas?

    Enable Digital IO.. is not under properties.. Control Panel/Sound/Double Click (to open) on your choice of 'playback devices'.. in this case 'the default out choice..Speakers and then under the 'Custom' Tab.. it is the Only check box or option under the 'Custom' Tab. Odds are it is unchecked but worth looking. I unhooked my Speakers and it was still there. Also without my speakers attached is the  Configure Icon box.. but it is unavailable to open, unless the output choice (the Default out choice) is clicked on and highlighted. Then you can enter Configure.
    We are both using Windows 7.. The question of your posted pictures is seen in the pictures. Lower picture shows 2ea Default.. Green Circle active as default. Your upper picture doesn't show Speakers as a selection, it shows a Headset. So my question was leading to a possible conflict of Default outputs. No I'm not drunk, but I am electronic capable.. poss that's a reason my explanation is seeming drunk..lol
    My point is.. when setting your DEFAULT output choice... If you have your speakers 1/8" plugged into the Boards 'Green" jack. Have it that way only... no other speakers or headsets attached. Make the Speaker out choice under Control Panel/ Sound and under the Playback tab.. the only Default choice. Undo any second Default selection. That is the Output choice showing a Green Circle with a check mark inside it. That is what you are assigning as the audio out you are using. Just to see if there is a conflict. Again the posted lower picture that you show under the Sound box has 2 defaults.
    You also have the Realtek HD Audio Manager shown. Possibly that is a conflict.. Is one set different than the other? You have 2 separate audio control programs. One is the Windows OS Sound control choice, and the other is your Realtek HD Audio Mamager. If you un-install the Realtek HD Audio Manager program, you still have the Windows 7 OS Sound controls. Both is just an option. You do want to always have your Windows Sound programs installed.. it controls a lot to include your Theme Sounds and more... Your Realtek HD Audio Manager is optional. If both are not set for defaults out, such as the exact same output selections... they will conflict.
    You can always reinstall the Realtek Audio program. Since you have no sound and don't know if it is a board electrical problem.. as in a broken circuit. Use just one.. Windows one!! Then if you have sound from the Green jack input on the board... it will tell you that the board is infact OK. Then it all boils down to which program to use.
    Fixing a problem is a task of the process of elimination. Make it simple to see if it will work.
    Try again removing the Realtek HD Audio, optional program. Plug your speaker into the proper output. Make sure that under Sound and the playback tab.. speakers are default. That green circle. Highlight the Speaker choice. Click on Configure. and follow to configure. Double click on the Speaker selection. Go through all the tabs and make proper choices. Also on your desktop, on the bottom right open settings from the Speaker Icon next to the Time and Date. Volume is on and up, and the mixer setting also are up for volume. Now you are setup for speakers without out a secondary conflict of two programs and 2 defaults. If you have no sound after that... at least you know you finally have all the proper settings, and no conflicts.
    Keep it simple and basic until you figure out your no sound woes. Still not working? Then it's time do figure out if you problem is software based or hardware based. Man, I hope you are following this.. I really am trying to help. I know problems can be so frustrating. I build and fix a lot of problems for Friends. No master but I do understand diagnostic processes.
    I hope the next Post from you is that your possible conflicts are gone, and you have sound. If it is a conflict? Sure seems possible.

  • MSI 890GXM-G65 @ Core Unlocking

    Hi guys, I'm new here in this forums.
    I just want to ask for those who uses their MSI 890GX-G65 for core unlocking.
    specs:
    AMD Phenom II X2 555BE (4 cores stable)
    MSI 890GXM-G65 bios @ 1.6
    G.Skill Ripjaws 1600 CL7 (running @ 1333mhz 7-8-7-24 @1.6v)
    MSI R5770 Hawk
    OCZ ModXstream 600w
    My issue is I've unlocked my processor and it's pretty stable, enable ACC. then boot OK.
    after some hours of gaming, PC is shutdown. After a few hours, I opened it again and it boot again as X2 yet ACC is enabled.
    I have to disable ACC reboot then enable ACC again to unlock it again to x4.
    Another issue is OS loading, it's 4x longer in loading than the normal once, my basis in the OS Loading in my PC is after the logo of windows appear, caps,scroll,num lock leds will lit and the mouse then after that it should continue to login screen, but in my case after the lit ups, it hang for a minute(or longer) before continuing to the log in screen. i tried it with all stock no OC, regular OS loading only takes place after reformatting my Computer. after that it returns this kind of case.

    I think it's stable enough, btw the x4 to x2 scenario is not always happening. but it has high chances the your next cold boot would you're on X2.
    and i do Play games(2 hours minimum), do stress test(1 hour minimum  then back to stock), and overclocking(only when gaming). and i think it's really stable. 

  • 890GXM-G65 on-board Audio white noise when shutting down ... Please Help

    Just got this board on ebay. Runs great but when rebooting the following happens:
    MSI 890GXM-G65 on-board Audio produces a second's worth of white noise (radio no-station-tuned static sound) when shutting down - about a second before the screen goes bank and the PC restarts
    I don't mind the noise but is this normal or should I send the board back ?

    All Windows Sounds are turned off except for Device Connect / Disconnect / Connect Failure. I have an Audigy 2 PCI card but I haven't tried it because the drivers always lock up the PC when I run MSI Afterbutner, eVGA Precision or almost any other hardware monitoring utility.
    Since I flashed the BIOS to v1.B I feel I can't return it to the seller but I really like the board and it works well, except for this integrated audio issue. I won't return this board - it's a keeper.
    Still, I'm hoping for a fix if possible.

  • 890GXM-G65 BIOS update failure

    I just assembled a PC with the 890GXM-G65 motherboard, 4 GB Kingston DDR3-1333 memory (2x KVR1333D3N9/2G), Athlon II X2 245 processor, Nvidia 8500GT video card. BIOS revision was 1.6. Although I intended to do a clean Windows 7 x64 install later, initially and with only minor adjustments I was able to successfully boot from my HDD transplanted from my old PC with Windows 7 x86.
    I decided to update to BIOS 1.7 because I built this system in an emergency and on a tight budget, hence the Athlon II X2 and the reused old video card and HDD, but I intend to upgrade to a Phenom II X6 and a better card soon, and I remembered having seen the information on MSI's Web site, on the processor compatibility list, that revision 1.7 was required to support hexa-core processors. Later I found that the information on that page had been corrected to a mere version 1.2, but by then it was too late.
    I downloaded the ZIP file with the BIOS 1.7 update (7642v17.zip) from MSI's Web site and extracted it. I tried to run the executable (AFUD4310.EXE) from within a Windows 7 command prompt, but I saw a message that the program could not run in that OS. I tried to perform LiveUpdate from MSI's site, but apparently it wasn't compatible either (Windows 7 and IE 8), because nothing happened and it kept returning to the same screen, even though I had enabled all ActiveX options for MSI's site. Then I saved the BIOS binary (A7642AMS.170) to a FAT-formatted USB stick and tried M-Flash from BIOS.
    The BIOS recognized the file but said there was a "ROM dismatch" (sic). I canceled it, rebooted, re-downloaded the file, calculated the MD5 hash for the BIOS binary both on my HDD and on the USB stick and they matched, which rules out any problem with the file copy process or the USB stick hardware. I repeated the M-Flash process and since I had double-checked that the ROM file was correct, I saved my old BIOS to the same USB stick and let the flashing proceed.
    The BIOS flash process went normally through the end ("Erasing ROM," "Writing ROM," etc.), with the message that the PC would reboot after 5 seconds. Which, of course, it didn't. Other than the blue LEDs and the processor fan spinning, nothing happens. Not even the GPU fan spins, and the same video card still works perfectly in my old PC, which of course I had to re-assemble - I'm writing from it now and using the same video card. I tried everything, in desperation including resetting the BIOS jumpers and removing the battery, even though I knew that's for misconfigured BIOS parameters, not for a corrupted BIOS.
    Now, you don't have to tell me that a BIOS upgrade is risky. I know it, and only did it because I thought I had a good reason - to make my new PC ready for the upgrade I intend to do soon. But first, I wouldn't have done it without the incorrect information that was on MSI's Web site. Second, one expects a BIOS update to go without problems if you have the correct binary ROM file from the motherboard's manufacturer and there are no power outages or other problems that interrupt the process. Both these requisites were met. Yet now my brand-new mobo (which I stressed my limited budget to get exactly because of the X6 support and new 890GX chipset) appears to be dead.
    Do I have just an expensive paperweight and a considerable loss in my bank account, or is there still hope? Can anything still be done to save my motherboard? Thanks a lot for any possible help.

    No, that is called marketing.  In most cases, there are no problems with M-Flash whatsoever.  However, in too many other instances there have been problems with M-Flash, that is why we warn against using it, to be on the safe side.  You can either ignore these warnings and take your chances (probably 95% success rate) or take them seriously and update the BIOS the DOS-Way and increase the success rate to 99.9999%.  It is up to you.  In case the only reason you posted your remark is to start the sort of discussion we already had hundred times in this forum, please either start your own topic and state your actual problem or just don't reply to my reply.  This is a user-to-user forum, not an MSI Technical Support or an official MSI Products complaint stations.
