8cm mini discs

Having found out that i cannot put mini discs in to my IMAC drive, is there an alternative solution that will allow me to play 8cm discs on my Imac? A separate piece of hardware for example?

Hey - i've got a Lacie external cd/dvd burner. firewire. and when i load a mini-dvd-rw (recorded movie from sony handycam). my mac tells me that i've just inserted a black dvd. asking to choose an action from the pop-up menu or click ignore. i click ignore, because i want the movie off it. = finder is empty. but showing that there is only 644mb of memory left on disc. (so i know its actually on the disc) but how do i get it off at this point as it does not show me the data?
Many Thanks

  • A mini disc will not work in superdrive.  How would you suggest I retrieve the data from a mini disc to my macbook air?

Reading the previous comments, I understand the last thing I want to do is stick a mini-disc in my superdrive.  Not too super, but never mind.
Any suggestions as to how I can read it?  It has the user's manual for my new actioncam.

buy a tray loading LG DVD drive from best buy or amazon.com
    theyre only $30
they work perfect on the Air (i know)  and have a MUCH longer cable for ease of use than does the superdrive.

Help! How can I take out the mini-disc stuck in mac?
I insert it into the mac, but the OS cannot load the disc and the disc cannot be ejected even i pressed the "eject" button.

This happened to a family members macbookpro. A mini-cd inserted, couldn't be mounted or ejected by the drive.
I cut a rectangle from a cereal box about two inches wide and 6 inches long. Abour an inch and half from one end in the middle I cut a notch and bent it down a little.

I then inserted it slowly into the drive notch down and slowly pulled out. I did this few times and caught the mimi-cd and removed it. The drive has worked flawlessly for several years
A few days after this happened I was in BestBuy and an Apple rep was there displaying new Apple products. I asked him about it and he said they have a tool that ***** it out.

  • Apple's mini-disc adapter

i know that Apple recently got a patent and whatnot for a mini-disc adapter thing (http://www.appleinsider.com/articles/07/11/29/appledeveloping_mini_disc_adapter_for_slot_loadingdrives.html) but does anyone know when said adapter will be available to the public?
    thanks

You will know when we all know - When you see it for sale on Apple's Online Store site.

  • Recording to garageband from mini disc using the i mic

When I am recording in to garageband I get a very loud clicking which I am sure is not good for my speakers. I am turning the metronome off when I create the track that I am recording onto. I have looked at other reasons for this but can find none.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

If I were you, I would use another program for recording and then remove the click. Audacity is a free recorder/editor that can probably do the trick. Then you can import it into garageband.
The click can be caused by a difference in "voltage" (the electric potential) on both sides: if the mini disc has a different "zero" level (the average of its output, sometimes called the DC level) than your iMic, you can get a click and the only way to get rid of it is using balanced inputs and outputs (which is probably not an option).
If it is the DC level, you'll need to get rid of that as well before importing the file into Garageband. I think Audacity has a "remove DC" filter.

  • Can i insert 8cm dvd discs into my i Mac?

Just wondered as i have a Sony Handycam which records straight onto the small 8cm DVD discs which you can just finalise and play in a normal dvd player straight away. I didnt want to slip it into my new iMac and get it stuck. Also whats the procdure once its in there? Can i just simply copy it to the hard drive and produce a copy? Any help or advice much appreciated.

Hello, Your 24" Mac will eat the disc. If you have an external dvd, use that. Some of the older Macs that have a tray loading dvd will---sometimes be able to. But yours will suck it in and forget to spit it back out!!!!
Try to import it via firewire.
P.S. Questions like this should be posted in the iMac discussion group..

  • Mini Disc stuck and won't eject!

My friend just stuck one of those mini-disc things into my DVD/CD slot. (You know, those mini versions of a cd)..anyway, I've tried doing what Disc Utility said to but its not working...PLEASE HELP!!

    Your best option...
Get a thick piece of paper and fold it in half.
Tear that in half and stick it in all the way.
Try to get that behind the disc.
    It should pop right out.

  • Mini disc stuck

I was trying to put some software on my iBook G4 and put a mini disc in the CD slot. It went in but never sounded like it went in and I have tried to remove it by restarting holding down the mouse button and it is still in the slot. Any ideas of what I can do next? Thanks.

Tilt the computer so that the optical drive's opening is downwards; it may then fall out with or without telling the computer to eject the disk. You may also be able to get hold of it by inserting an item such as a business card while holding onto one end of the card.

  • Mini disc stuck in my imac

How do I remove a mini disc that is stuck in my new intel imac? the eject button is useless. <Edited by Moderator>
    Thanks
    Steve

    Hi Steve
You could turn it on it's side and hope that it falls out, but you'll probably have to take the iMac to your local Apple Service Provider or Apple Store and have them extract the disc from it.
Have a look at your Intel iMac User's Guide:
*Chapter 2 page 21 say's:* +It can write music, documents, and other files to standard-size CD-R,+
    +CD-RW, DVD±R, DVD±RW, and DVD±R Double Layer (DL) discs.+
    and *Chapter 4 page 50 say's:* +Use only a _standard size_ disc.+

  • Mini Disc stuck in CD player & printing question

I have a mini disc stuck in the cd player. I've pushed eject multiple times, but I don't think that it reads that it is in there. Is there any other way to get it out?
Also, how do you "print selection" like on PCs?

Mini DVDs _are not compatible_ with slot-loading optical drives like the one in the MPB. Some users have reported success in extracting mini DVDs from the optical drive by inserting a business card with double-stick tape at the end, then pressing the eject key, and carefully pulling the disc out. Else, you may need to visit an Apple Store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider for repairs. These will not be covered under warranty.
Print selection is application-dependent. Some apps (e.g. Microsoft Word) support that feature (there's an option in the print dialog box), others do not.
You can take a screenshot of part of the screen (Command-Shift-4) and print that.

  • Importing Mini-Disc into my G5 - urgent

I have a Sony Mini-Disc which I do interviews with. It has a 'PCLink, which has a USB entry into the MAC and a plug which enters into the Sony Mini-Disc (mic. or line out jack).
How do I download the interview onto my MAC, to then put it on CD to be reviewed on any PC? Do I capture it with iTunes? iMovies? any other way?
I have an interview in a couple of hours and would appreciate any help as soon as possible.
    Thanks
    Roger

You need a firewire to analog converter.
Canopus Grass Valley makes a number of them. From pretty inexpensive to more expensive:

  • Mini disc to Ipod nano

So sony finally sends me an email about transfering music to a mini disc player to an Ipod and it says this...
"You can transfer music from the Sony MZ-NH600D Walkman to the ipod by connecting the Walkman's Strero out to a similar input on the ipod. We suggest that you contact the ipod manufacturer for further assistance."
does anyone know about this cable? I cant seem to find it.

I am not familiar with the MZ-NH600D player, but it appears to have a mini stereo phone (headphone) jack. You would need a mini-stereo plug (male) to mini-stereo plug (male) cable. If you are using the sonicstage software supplied with the unit, and you are capable of burning a cd, you may be able to just burn your MD's to CD disk, then import them to iTunes.
Here is a link to the cable described (but you can get it anywhere):
