8GB iPhone thinks it is a 4GB iPhone

I was having issues with my 8GB iPhone and took it to a Genis Bar and after much trouble and making two trips, they finally replaced my iPhone. That was great however now that I have had the phone for two weeks I am noticing that the phone is showing that the capacity is only 3.5GB and not the 8GB that is shown on the back of the iPhone and what they were suppose to be giving me. Has anyone else had a issue like this? When I talked to tech support the had never heard of this happen and told me to take phone back to Apple Store because they did not have any phone to swap me out.

Sounds like you were given a 4GB iPhone as an exchange for your 8GB iPhone.
Was the capacity on this iPhone ever shown as 7.3GB (Settings > General > About), which is the actual capacity of an 8GB iPhone?
Since your exchange was likely a refurb, it is possible a new case showing 8GB was installed on a 4GB.
I would take it back to the Apple Store.

Good question.
I believe that your SIM card should be interchangeable between your old 4GB iPhone and your new 8GB iPhone. Of course, if you take your SIM out of the old 4G what will the buyer of your 4G use for a SIM card to get started - are you planning to give him the non-registered SIM from the 8G that you get?
If not, how do you expect him to get a SIM card unless you expect him to have to buy one from AT&T?
I think that if the old SIM works, there should be no need to restart your two (2) year contract but first the old SIM needs to work.

Have a small question on the 4gb iphones.

i just wanted to know since they have discontinued the 4gb iphone..if you need to have your iphone replace due to defects are they still able to give you another 4gb or do they need to give you an 8gb since they are no longer available..okay this would be greatly appreciate if someone could help me on this.

The clearance section of Apple.com still has 4gb iPhones for sale, and that is not including any refurb stock they have on hand, so they will have units to repair or replace with for quite a while.
If for some reason they were unable to repair or replace your 4gb model I am sure they would upgrade you or refund your purchase price... either way, I am confident they will take care of you.

i know jobs is giving $100 to early buyers for the 8GB iPhone but what about us who bought the 4GB iphone? I bought it in the beginning of august and so i also feel gyped that i got a smaller version of the phone which is now being phased out. What if my phone breaks? They wont be able to give me a new oneso theyll make me buy the 8gb at full price? What if its under warranty? I want some sort of compensation!

Apple will make good on it. I would certainly consider getting Apple Care so in the event it becomes unusable they may replace yours with what is available.

I need to have my malfunctioning 4GB iphone replaced. Do they replace it with a 4GB or an 8GB? I thought they stopped making the 4GB.

There should be plenty of 4GB phones for warranty issues. If the Apple Store Genius Bar near you doesn't have one in stock, they will order it in for you. They should also be able to make a loaner phone available to you as well. Are you having an issue with your phone?

4GB iPhone silent switch costs $199 to repair??

I just contacted Apple support about the non-functional silent switch on my 4GB iPhone. I was told that it will cost $199 (since I am out of Applecare) to send the phone in to repair the silent switch. I have been a long time Apple fan and this is the first time I feel that I am being taken advantage of.
It seems that Apple is pushing me to buy a new 3G model instead of servicing my existing phone. It's only 4 GB but it does everything I need it to and I'm very upset about this. If there are any Apple employees that would like to defend the cost of this repair feel free to reply.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. With iOS 5 go to Settings>iCloud and turn it on.
If not iOS 5 then try going to Settings>Mail>MobileMe and see if you can set it up. I do not know if it is now possible since MobileMe was discontinued at the end of this June.

My iphone thinks my adapter is still plug in so I can't hear anything.

I'm hoping we get overnight shipping for the HTC Trophy. Looking at their website, quite a few of their newer phones come with free overnight shipping. If you do order on Thursday and it is 2-day shipping, in theory you might be able to get it Saturday. I'm really hoping for overnight. I'm going to be going out of town this coming weekend. Either way though, I'm going to have it shipped to my work so I don't have to worry about a signature or it being left outside.

You're iPhone was probably set to automatically sync with your iTunes upon plugging it in. Best option is to restore from a backup, either on iCloud or your computer.

Yes i've tried all of that. I've turned it all the way on and off and erased all of my music and put it back on and nothing works. And with the breaking up CDs and putting into compilation categories i have already fixed all of that stuff. It's fine it just doesn't show up in the list of artists. I can find the album in the songs category and the albums category it's just it doesn't show tha name of the artist. All of the other albums that i downloaded before i updated my itunes to th most recent update are fine. It's just the two that i downloaded afterwards. Thanks for trying though.
