8GB nano screen blank and beeps

I have a 3rd Gen iPod Nano 8GB and I had a cracked LCD, so I bought a new one on eBay and carefully replaced the LCD screen. Once I put everything back together, I turn on the iPod and all I get is a white screen with a horizantal line in the center of the screen, and it beeps twice like every 5 mins...
I plugged it into a wall charger for like 20 mins, and like every 5 mins the screen goes dark, comes back on with the horizantal line in the center and beeps twice, and this keeps happening over and over again.
The thing that puzzles me is that when I connect it to the computer its recognized and shows up in iTunes, I was even able to restore it to firmware 1.1.3, and everything went fine, I was able to sync up some songs, and I'm even able to open up the iPod in 'My Computer'
So the only problem is that the screen wont display anything..., anyone know what the problem could be?

This most certainly sounds like something to do with the LCD screen you replaced.
Have you made sure it is connected up right? As it is functioning correctly except the screen?

• Using iPad2 (e.g. using safari) and screen blanks and apple logo appears. Happened 3x today. Does this mean my iPad2 is defective? Thanks from a novice

My iPad2 recently started to what appears to be a reboot - screen blanks and Apple logo appears. It has happened 3 times today with the screen just remaining 'blank' for several minutes before the logo appeared. Any ideas??? Do I have a defective iPad2? Any help appreciated.

If it were me, I would back up the ipad, restore it to the factory settings and then restore it from the backup.
That will give you back your settings and data, but will hopefully eliminate whatever is funky with the OS.

• Nano screen faults and scratches

Sadly, because Apple has the dominant position in MP3 players, the wolves waiting to pounce at the slightest opportunity are slavering. It's a fact that the Nano is stunningly good looking and functional. I have one, I don't have a cracked screen but I do think scratches are a problem. I saw a black Nano with horrible scratching but the owner didn't seem to mind. One problem in the UK is that any form of protection, sleeve, case etc. has just not been available. I had to send to Canada for a product. I'm sure it was the same when the iPod and Mini were first introduced but the Nano seems somehow more vulnerable. I think the manufacturers of protection work very quickly but we want their products immediately, such are our expectations. Apart from the scratch protection, I am utterly delighted with the Nano. Oh, and Apple should make it clearer that Nano can be used, albeit more slowly, with USB 1.

The UK isn't that bad, although I'm getting frustrated that we're seeing positive messages on here about zCover and iCondoms, which don't seem to be available over here.
Any Brits who just got or are getting a nano should try eBay UK, where various sorts of skins/vinyls are available. I ordered one at the end of last month, and it was with me by the time nanos were in stock a week later.
This vinyl is not particularly nice (fiddly to apply; me and my boyfriend both tried, and couldn't get it to apply without noticeable bubbles on the screen area), but it works. I have kept the back bit, and am now using a silicone skin with clear polycarb screen protector. The screen protector was £2, and can easily be replaced when it scratches, as it will.
If they really can't wait (and can cope with having a pink armband), Dixons Group shops have got a pink armband sort-of-suede-y skin. It doesn't look nice, and I bet it's overpriced (at least £15-£20--can't check the price as Dixons online hasn't updated its page yet), but it's there. It looks as if the case is built into the armband, which would mean it's only suitable for anyone whose main/only use will be sports.
Also, HMV seem to have a surprisingly good selection of iPod accessories. I think they have the armband as well, and I'm expecting them to pick up a fair few accessories as they become available.

• IPhone screen blank and won't turn on/off

I went to the camera app from the lock screen and the app seemed to freeze, so I pressed the home button. The screen went blank and now won't turn on. Oddly, when I plugged it into iTunes on the computer, I was able to sync, and I can get Siri by holding the home button. Also the phone will ring if called, but I cannot answer it. Please help.

• IPod Nano screen = white and blank

Hey everyone. Okay, I've had my nano for about 6 months now, I bring it to school every day, and I haven't had any problems until today...
I went to go turn it on to listen to it, and i notice that the screen is plain white (backlight on) with a black bar on the right side of the screen that randomly shows up.
I have two questions- is this covered in the iPod 1 year warranty? If it is, when I bring it to the Apple store near me, would they let me upgrade (and pay the difference) to the 30 gig video?
Thanks everyone for your help (in advance).

• Turn off splash screen, tune and beeps?

How can I turn off:
-- the initial splash screen video of shaking hands
-- the the initial little tune that plays
-- the little beeps that play with every button press
I am using an N93.
Thanks for your help.
John

The keypad tone:
Menu -> Tools -> Profiles -> General (or the profile, which is currently set) -> Options -> Personalise. Then go to Keypad tones and set to Off.
The initial tune:
In order to have this off, the Warning Tones option in the given profile should also be Off.
The grasping hands:
Go to Menu -> Tools -> Settings -> Phone settings -> General -> Welcome note/logo. Now set to Text and enter some text or choose Image and select a picture. This will be the startup animation/text. If you simply want blank screen, draw a white image in Paint, save as JPG and put for logo

> and as the only way another user could reply is if they had that EXACT problem and also had a solution,
I've noticed this message from you several times, John. Often in cases like this where there is a possibility that another user has had the exact same problem, and thus might have an answer.
I suggest that you shorten your message to "You may need to contact Adobe for help, and the following two lines" which will seem less naggy.

• Why does my screen blank and need to be refreshed when I switch between multiple open tabs and is there a fix to this?

If I have one tab open at a site, and then open a new tab to a different website, when I click back on my other tab the screen is a blank gray color and I have to refresh it to get the site back. This happens almost every time I switch between my open tabs, no matter which tab I am going back to. I am not having this problem in any other browsers. This has only started happening in the last couple of months and it has gotten really annoying. Does anyone know how I can stop this?

Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).
See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]
If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")

• Mbp 2011 screen freezes and beeps

My 2011 MBP 13.3 will freeze, displaying short bars across the screen in columns, audio beeps three times in intervals. I must hold the power button down to reboot.

Some things you can try:
1. Try a new user account, create one in System Preferences -> Users and Groups, test to see if the issue still persists in this new user account, this will give us a lot of information. (if the problem is the same or it vanishes, let us know)
2. Make sure all your software is up-to-date, Apple Logo -> Software update.
3. Unplug all 3rd party devices, just keep in the necessary, Power, Keyboard + Mouse, no ethernet or external hard drives etc.
4. Reset the PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
5. Reset the SMC http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
6. Boot to the recovery partition (CMD + R on startup until you see a spinning cog with an apple logo, then let go) -> Choose english as the main language -> Choose Disk Utility -> Select your hard drive from the left pane of Disk Utility (NOT Macintosh HD, the one that will look similar to: 1TB ST3200WAJS) -> Select the 'First Aid' tab -> Bottom right of the window it will say 'S.M.A.R.T Status: ________' ... What does it say after smart status?
7. While still inside the Recovery Partition, select Macintosh HD -> First Aid (tab) -> Verify Disk -> Repair Disk (unless it says the volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK) -> Verify Disk Permissions -> Repair Disk Permissions (if there are differing permissions on the disk)
Let us know if the issue still persists, but make sure you do all of those steps correctly and post back as much information as possible (PRAM takes two chimes at startup, unplug the power cable for 15 seconds, plug it back in, wait 5 seconds, turn on... make sure you follow all articles)
Good Luck!

• Screen blanks and must unplug to continue

I believe this has only happened twice and that's over the last two months.
My screen just went blank while I was web browsing. No sounds came from the computer. I try pressing or holding the power button with no effect. I unplug it and plug it back in and it starts right up just fine.
I don't know if this is related but over the last couple weeks I've received the pop-ups saying I illegally disconnected a device a few times; however, I don't have any active storage devices connect and I didn't disconnect anything. Writing this it occurred to me I did have my old powerbook connected (without any power) via the firewire . I was using it as an external drive but I turned it off and unplugged it because I wasn't actually making use of it. I disconnected it so that may solve one problem.
Both are very rare and don't seem to correlate with anything.

Anybody know about how the iMac handles brief power outs or surges?
That was my initial thought but nothing else in my apartment showed any sign of power issues.
The outlet doesn't look too bad but I'll take some of the junk out.
In the outlet (in a cheap supposedly "surge protector" power-strip)
1) iMac
2) Printer
3) Cable Modem
4) Old PowerBook (maybe I don't know when I unplugged it.)
5) Old PC, power off
6) LCD monitor Power Cord the (was for the Power Book now hides behind imac)
Connected to the imac
1) USB 128Mbyte memory stick
2) USB cable for camera (not connected to camera)
3) USB HP deskjet printer
4) Firewire Powerbook as HD. (power on during black screen power off for disconnect popups)
5) MightyMouse & keyboard
