8gb phone shows 3.5gb capacity...
did i get ripped off? i bought an brand new, iphone from pasadena CA. its 7R739 from week 39, Black box, 8gb, brand new not a refurb on 111. But when you open the about on the phone it says... 3.5gb capacity, itune shows the same info at 3.5...the phone was sealed when i bought it. not opened before...i already did 3 full restores but still nothing changes...even the back of the phone says its 8gb!!!

You can also make an appointment with the Genius Bar in advance. Either by calling AppleCare, or by going online and selecting your store at http://www.apple.com/retail/
If you go into the store, they will sign you up for an available appointment, and if there is not any available appointments put you on a list to wait for appointments that are no shows.
You can make an appointment in advance, and should be seen at that time without having to wait 30 minutes within the store.

I have NOTHING else on my phone. No music, no movies, no podcasts, absolutely nothing.
According to my math this is approximately 53MB of applications. I removed ALL my apps and the usage figures reported as such:
Apps: 57MB
Other: 202.4MB
I then did a complete restore and the figures were reported as:
Other: 196MB
After I synced my apps again the figures were:
Apps: 101.2MB
Other: 204.5MB
So... while 101.2MB is nearly DOUBLE the amount of space they take up on my hard drive, it's nowhere near the 1.5GB they were taking up before. I understand that saved data, scores, settings, etc is going to take up some space, but 1.5GB is about 30 times the size of the apps and that just seems weird. Are any of these extra huge memory hogs?

It is normal that applications on the phone take up more space than what they do on your disk - the files (*.ipa) you have on your computer are compressed versions of the application which will be unpacked once installed on the phone (transfer of a compressed file from the computer to the phone and then unpacking on the phone is faster than transferring the uncompressed files) - a factor of two is about normal (similar to what I see on my system) but it depends on the actual applications as compression ratios can be vastly different for different kinds of data.
Are any of these extra huge memory hogs?
Air Sharing can be depending on what kind of data you transferred to your phone and I would assume that most network applications will have a cache which could be substantial (some applications allow you to empty their respective caches from the system preferences).

IPhone showing as over capacity when it isn't
When syncing iPhone 4, the "capacity" bar in iTunes show's as over capacity, it gruntas and graons for 5 or more minutes, then suddenly drops down to normal (meaning it was NOT over capcity), then it syncs normally. How can I get this to stop. Everything is updated to current.
The capacity bar will often change during syncing. Apps commonly need space equal to twice their size or more during installation. If the phone is actually over capacity, iTunes will present a message saying how much space must be freed to complete the sync.

I recently purchased an iPhone 5c and for some unknown reason I can't connect to my wireless router's network at home. I've tried establishing a seperate IP address, manually adding the iPhone device, and even spent an hour with Centurylink's IT support and they couldn't figure it out. They said it was an iPhone error. I had an iPhone 3 about 1 1/2 years ago that had the same problem. I ended up getting rid of the phone because I couldn't solve this problem before. I thought a newer phone would not have the same problem.
My phone shows that I'm connected to my home internet, but when I open up network information for my home internet there is no IP Address listed. Safari and my other apps also state that I'm not connected to the internet. I'm ready to sell my phone back and go to an Android since I didn't have trouble connecting with it before. We also have a Macbook and iPad that both connect to the internet just fine. No. However, you might want to look in to google voice. Using the google voice app, you can have your GV # appear instead of your personal number. I've been using it for years now (it's free in the US), and it's worked very well. You can also have caller ID for incoming calls display your GV # instead of the callers # so you know it's a work call, and you can set schedules for when calls to GV are allowed through to your forwarding numbers.

I am facing a weird problem with my iphone 4s Wi-Fi connectivity. As i connect my iphone to my office Wi-Fi, internet works in one building, but it doesnt work in the other building, although the phone shows Wi-Fi is connected in the other building. I got my iPhone 4s screen fixed, now in my Photos it shows nothing, although in my memory usage it shows 10.5gb of photos, thats 2000 photos not showing up. What happened?! Where did all my photos go?!
WOOHOO!!! i finaly fixed the problem. Here is what to do:
Chances are if you did the same thing as me you either have
A) No album names at all for ALL your songs in your library
or
B) Have the same name for every album for ALL your songs in your library.
Here is how to fix it (yah it will take a little work but its worth getting your iPod functioning properly).
Unless you dont want to have to go and actualy set al lthe album names for every song here is what you can do:
Go through to iTunes and arange your songs by Artist name. Click the top song for your first artist, hold Shift and click the last song for that same artist (to multi select all the songs for the artist) go into get info and check the Album box. Copy the name of the artist to the Album box and hit ok.
Now when u update your ipod and go into ur Artists section the actual Artist name should show up instead of the song names.
For some reason having the same album name for all your songs messes up the organization of the iPod.

You need to find out who the carrier was in Switzerland and see if they will unlock the device. The carrier with the lock is the only one that can authorize the unlock. You may need to check with the original owner and see if they can get it unlocked by the carrier if you do not qualify.

I added a custom ringtone . Then later I tried to add another three set but now after sync . Am not able to get rid of the first one... It's still there as my custom ringtone. But my iPhone in iTunes shows all four... But the phone shows only one...?
Paul--you are a life-saver!! Worked great. I did have to look around to make sure I was getting 4.9 instead of 4.7 (even when the file was named 4.9 at techspot.com), but I finally got the right file, did the install as you suggested, and everything is now fine. One note, though, that I haven't seen mentioned in any of this thread: when I first tried to open up iTunes after getting back to 4.9, the following message appeared: "The file iTunes Library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of iTunes." I merely went to the old .itl file that was created when I did the update to iTunes 5, renamed it, moved it over to my now new 4.9, and iTunes opened fine. My library was a few days out of date, because of the few days' lag from the time I did the iTunes update, but that was easily taken care of, and everything's now working fine. Thanks again!!!

I received my N95 8Gb phone via 3 with a promotional deal of the Spiderman 3 movie already installed. Unfortunately the movie was not pre-loaded onto my phone. Your Nokia service team (UK) advised me to contact 3, who told me to contact Nokia. Nokia then told me to contact a Nokia service centre to have my phone flashed at level 3. The service centre said they could not do this. After 3 weeks the Nokia service team then again told me to go to a service centre and pay to have a Level 3 flashed on my phone at my own time and expense. I don't think this level of service is satisfactory.
ThanksYour problem is with three, they have either removed the movie from the phone (they often remove or lock features) or are supplying the version that doesn't include it.
N95 8GBs that are supplied with the movie have it pre-installed and are supplied in spiderman branded boxes. It is never supplied as a separate download.
At the end of day it's only a movie, you can buy it for £5 and transfer it to the phone with a bit of free software if you want it that badly. -
New phone shows high data usage in My Verizon right after purchase - why?
I purchased a new Galaxy S5 yesterday. We looked at "My Verizon" and saw data usage of 470 MB on the summary, but the phone showed 14 MB. I downloaded the data usage details, and they also showed 14 MB. Today her summary shows 1556 MB, but the detailed data spreadsheet cells add up to 162.49 MB. The phone is on wifi only. What gives? My wife has averaged around 200 MB per month for years. Is this some kind of fraud? We got my daughter a new IPhone and go nailed for a $10 data overage within a 24 hours. There were two half-gig downloads, but there is no way to trace what they were, whether some kind of Apple-induced downloads or what. Verizon customer service gave us an extra gig since the store failed to tell us that the data usage was pro-rated. They also failed to tell my wife to set the phone to wifi only until all of the phone's little data-sucking default applications did their updates. I was totally off contract with 5 phones, and just put 4 new little data-sucking piggy phones back on contract for two years for my family. My own phone number 5 will not be with Verizon. Unless they change their loan-shark practices on data charges, this will be my last contract with Verizon. Their customer support folks are great, but I have a low tolerance for a billing system that cannot be audited for accuracy in data charges.
Regarding your second comment, you are dead-on correct. My daughter's last plan was Virgin with unlimited data and 200 minutes of talk. We failed to sit down together and go over the differences. While I was ultimately responsible for explaining the need to turn off cellular coverage at home, I still feel the need to let my Verizon sales rep know to stress this to customers like us who have lived for years with unlimited data plans.
I am taking your advice and pulling the trigger on Republic tomorrow. They have a referral plan that will give both me and my son $19 after the first payment period ends. I appreciate your feedback! -
