I'd like to upgrade my Pavilion dv4-1431us up to 8Gb RAM.
Where can I get a QVL and/or specification for the 2x4Gb that will ensure compatibility with my Pavilion dv4-1431us?

Intel Core i5 or i7 and 4GB ram or 8GB ram for school usage and gaming Football Manager 2013

Hi all,
I'm considering bying the new Macbook Air 13'' but i'm confused whether to go for the Intel Core i5 og i7 processor and with 4GB ram or 8GB ram? I will use it for school stuff, web browsing and for gaming Football Manager 2013. Which one should I go for?

i5 should be able to handle it, however as you know MBA isn't a gaming laptop. So you can't expect the best results. Will it run smoothly? Reading some of the reviews, it's not that terrible. However if you play football manager often I would upgrade to the i7. For occasional gaming, I would definitely stick with i5 because of better battery.
Tbh, I'm not much of a gamer. But I use Final Cut Pro, photoshop, and do other type of intense tasks.
I decided to go with the i5 for myself and spend the $150 on something else (like external drive, monitor).
Anyways to answer your question, it depends on how often you play. If you play 24/7 the upgrade will be worth it.
But for occasional gaming, again I would stick for better battery :)
(But external battery can be purchased vs you won't be able to upgrade to i7.... Just a random thought..)

BIOS password reset for HP Pavilion DV4-1283cl

I'm working on a friends computer that has forgotten their BIOS password.... it's an HP Pavilion dv4-1283cl and generates a "System Disable Key: 620705680"
Any suggestions on how to reset it?

Maximum RAM for HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc

Since my HP Pavilion All-in-One MS228sc is getting increasingly slow - even after releasing space on the hard-drive I am researching on the possibility for a RAM upgrade.
The Pavillion ins "born" with 2 GB RAM in the slots and 2 GB virtual RAM.
My question if I can subsitute the one or both the RAM blocks with 2GB block. In that way I will get 3 or 4 Physical RAM instead of 2.
I assume that will increase the performance a great deal

If some how your machine came with only 2Gb of RAM, you can upgrade to 4Gb (max) using PC2-6400 RAM as mentioned above.

8gb ram for my mid2009 MacBook pro??

So I have a MacBook5,5 mid2009 MacBook pro and I want to upgrade to 8gb of ram and the problem is that one of my slots for the memory doesn't work anymore so I isn't have one working slot. The max ram I can have is 8gb for my MacBook. If I just get one 8gb stick would it work? And just leave the other slot empty? Also is there a difference if I just get one 8gb stick opposed to two 4gb sticks?

Thanks for the answer, but I need to know how it works - I mean different models of RAM can work differently on Mac computers. Some people said that Hynix works more stable than Kingston. Some people say that if you install 8Gb of RAM there will some errors can be while work. I need to know how works Kingston 8Gb memory with the latest Mac mini

In windows, it's the same. On a mac, PSE 12 is 64-bit, which means it can access more ram.

Windows 7 64-bit 8GB RAM doesn't start after installing X-Fi drivers

I have Windows 7 64 bit, 8GB RAM for a few months. After inserting an X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series (S/N MASB046A83R0772D; OP BN 06SB046A00005 Rev A) and installing Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi series driver 2.8.003 dated 26 Jun 09. The sounds plays OK, but after rebooting Windows doesn't start, with a CorruptRegistry error. I have installed Windows from scratch, but it only works until I install the X-Fi driver and reboot. Please help. I have searched the internet and found no solution to my problem besides a Wikipedia article that X-Fi has problem with 64-bit Vista with 4GB RAM or more.

Hi, I am also running windows 7 ultimate 64 with the same sound card and am using the july 5 driver. It works but i cant use the creative control panel as i get a black screen on start-up and when i uninstall the contol panel windows functions normally. I may have to go with the onboard sound to get all 4 speakers to work. I have 6 Gb of ram on a gigabyte X58 Mobo.

Looking for suggestion buying 8GB RAM for my latptop T420
I recently bought a used T420 which came with a 2GB from an online site. Machine woks all great with the current config. I would like to install 8GB RAM to make it faster as I have been installing lot of softwares on it.
Bit confused what to look for as products have keywords like DDR3 / PCI slots / 1333MHz, 1.5V .. not sure what to get.. can someone suggest what should I be getting ? If possible can you share a link ..

"2x4GB allows to run in dual channel, but no, not 2 times faster, a single stick operates as a 64bit device in dual channel the two sticks operate together as a 128bit device which in reality provides for up to an appr 15% gain in performance vs single channel - the lower the latency at a given freq the better performance, however have to take into account the freq also a 1333/CL7 set can't touch a 2133/9 set in sheer performance + the higher the freq the higher the bandwidth so the more data can be dealt with in a single clock cycle"
However, the best choice for you now, since you're upgrading your RAM is to go Full Monty on it and get 2x 8GB paired, because if you only decide on getting one, then you might have a hard time finding a matching 2nd module later. But there would not be a significant performance hit you'd take from getting a different module, not anything you'd notice at least. It's just good practice to get them paired. My 2 cents.
