i have redhat 6.1 / mandrake 7.0 i, i have two quest. :
1- which linux i choose for 8i ?
2- how install both designer 6i and developer 6i above the 8i ?

I've installed both Oracle8i and Developer 6i several times without any problems on Redhat 6.1. Since i've been reading quite some posts on problems with Mandrake I personally would go for the Redhat distribution.
I usually install different products in separate Oracle Homes and adapt the .bash_profile so that I can switch between homes. You can do the same by using different scripts to set the environment

Answering Oracle Reports questions is a bit out of my league, but I deal with a lot of ODBC apps, so I'll take a shot.
Try doing the following-
1) Open the Control Panel, Open the Data Sources (ODBC) control, and select the DSN you'll be using.
2) Put mnewman in the User ID field and mnn4578 in the password field.
3) I'm not familiar with the Oracle Reports dialog you're referring to when you say "I put in mnewman/mnn4578@ODBC:*", but make sure that you aren't providing more information than is being asked for (i.e. putting user/password@ODBC:* in a field that just asks for username). Since it's asking you to pick a DSN, it should be able to pull username/password information from the DSN.

Dev6 Server Load Balancing

Hi
I try to install Load Balancing with Dev6/Patch2 and OAS4.0.7.1
on 4 Machines with WinNT Server 4 SP 5. I tried to do it as
described in the documentation. But I did not succeed. It seems
to be that the Doc is not complete or wrong. Could somebody give
an example how to set up the LB Servers and Clients as NT
Services ?

No LACP and SLB are different.
LACP is the Link Aggregation Control Protocol, which is the protocol used within the IEEE 802.3ad (now 802.1AX) Link Aggregation mechanism to control the bundling and unbundling of the physical links into an aggregate link.
Server Load Balancing is a feature in IOS to load balance traffic destined to a virtual IP across a group of real IP. From Configuring Server Load Balancing:
The SLB feature is a Cisco IOS-based solution that provides IP server load balancing. Using the IOS SLB feature, the network administrator defines a virtual server that represents a group of real servers in a cluster of network servers known as a server farm.
Server Load Balancing is effectively what the Cisco Application Control Engine (ACE) etc., does but in IOS.

How do I create the same style buttons as those of standard
toolbar buttons in dev 6 forms.? Which properties are set? Any
Example or so?
Question 2.
Ho do I create the navigation browser tree as in the Forms 6.?
Any Example? How to set the multiple node select to on?

I think you want the toolbar features like, on mouse enter the
button appears then vanishes. there is no direct property to do .
There is work around and it is really stupid, if you want i

Missing Library (HINT.PLL) in DEV6

I am using DEV6,it seems that the ibaray
HINT.PLL is missing. From were I can copy it!
I am using it to display the hint property when mouse navigate to a button item.

Hi Hazeem,
The Hint.pll was given as a Workaround in forms 4.5 which did not have a tolltip property.
Since u have the tolltip property u can use that instead of the Hint.pll.
I u are porting from forms4.5 to forms 6.0
then u can copy the hint.pll and attach the same in your forms. The Pll is available under orawin95\forms45\plssqllib\hint.pll.

Dev6i: Upgrading from Patch 18 to Patch 19
I am following MOS note "Upgrading Developer 6i with Oracle Applications 11i [ID 125767.1]" and trying to figure out the order of the patches.
When exactly to apply the "interoperability" patches is conflicting in the note since there are 2 patch "download" sections (steps 2 and 3) and then there are three patch "install" sections (steps 5, 6 and 8) and the order of the patches isn't clear.
As best I can tell I apply them in this order as outlined in steps 5, 6 and 8:

Is this correct or should patch 3830807 be moved to Step 6?

Patch 3830807 says to "Relink All" (which taks a long time) using adadmin but Step 7 in note 125767.1 says only to relink these fnd items:

Can I just relink these 4 fnd items and be done?Yes.

Des6/headstart212: saving changes not asked when enter query during insert

Hi,
We are still on the old version for designer 6, but we have a strange problem.
We have several forms, when updating or inserting, and then closing the window, there is the question: do you want to commit the changes?
That's the normal behaviour.
But now, we just found out, that there are also forms, when working in them, and then closing the window or pressing F7, that the question isn't raised, enter-qry mode is started and the end user then has lost his changes.
We tried to track down qmslib50 and qmsevh50 for a form with problem and one without, but except for an key-enterqry which sometimes is generated (with standard code) and sometimes not we haven't been able yet to tackle it.
Is this perhaps a "known" problem of headstart 2.1.2 upgraded for des6., or has anyone an idea where we have to look for it?
The query property is on both forms set to yes.

Migrating from dev6 to dev11

Hi!
I have encountered a problem. I have converted forms from dev6 to dev11. Everything is working properly but..
I used to have only one window (MDI window with the menu). Now, with dev11 I have one more window (below the menu) that I can't get rid of. It is the part of my form window, but I would like to hide the header where there are the functions like minimize or close. I already have those functions on MDI window so I don't need another close function, and don't want to minimize form window at any time.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?

Additionally you can use
Robocopy command or
Robocopy GUI tool to accomplish the same.

CGSO$CANVAS_TAB problem (Des6i+HSD212+Patch13)

When generating a form with first module component on New content canvas and two others on New tab canvas page, from Des6i with qmsolb50.olb this warning appears:
CDG-01077 WARNING: Implementation source object CGSO$CANVAS_TAB of correct type not found in Object Library
and fmb file was not created.
Same form works with ofgstnd1.olb!
Any suggestions?

Try filling all width and height settings of all windows and canvasses in your form and then generate again. Should work.

Ora-00600 error from dev6i on linux database

hi all,
i am encountering ora-00600 while compiling forms 6i on linux db 10g. It is also not picking any query from dual in dev6i. while everything is working fine on toad and sqlplus. The client machine is xp. Whats wrong with it and how it can be solved ?

server: redhat enterprise linux AS / db 10g
client: windows xp / developer6i
yes sqlplus is quering the dual properly, for example sysdate. But i can't get the sysdate from in forms6i installed under xp. Even the procedure builder in 6i is not returning the sysdate from dual. the error message is
ora-00600: internal error code, arguments [17069], [36376872].......
the .fmx executables are running properly and returning the sysdate, but everytime i open the form module for modification, three program units throw the exception ora- 00600 and all have multliple queries for dual.
i even restarted the database on linux and form builder 6i on xp, now i am thinking of restarting both OS.
Forms 9iDS is not encountering this problem, whats wrong with 6i ?

Updating Date in Oracle9i & Dev6i

Hi all,
I am facing problems with updating dates.
I have Table1 & Table2 tables and i wish to update date field of Table2 table after saving a record in Table1 from screen by pressing save button with trigger WHEN_BUTTON_ PRESS.
With in WHEN-BUTTON_PRESS trigger I have written codes as
commit_form;
update Table2 set Table2.join_date=(select Table1.join_date from Table1 where Table1.EMPID=:Block_Employee.EMPID) where Table2.EMPID=:Block_Employee.EMPID;
commit;
its working but the date is changing as like
1) if the date in Table1 is to_char('01/01/1972','dd/mm/rrrr') then it updating as to_char('01/01/2072','dd/mm/rrrr') with in Table2.
2) if the date in Table1 is to_char('01/01/3005','dd/mm/rrrr') then it updating as to_char('01/01/2005','dd/mm/rrrr') with in Table2.
When I am trying from SQL Prompt then it working well.
The problems are like as Y2K problems.
Kindly gives me as solution.
I am using Oralce9i(res.2.0), Dev6i, Windows2000 Server.

Can you post the results of:
SQL> desc table1
SQL> desc table2
and set your nls_date format:
SQL> alter session set nls_date_format = 'dd-mon-yyyy';
then post some sample data from those tables, such as:

The Forms user manual and Help give all the details you need to figure out how to connect to a non-Oracle data source and how to handle the DML. Essentially, you have to code the INSERT, UPDATE, and DELETEs yourself in the "Advanced Database" properties section. To be honest, I don't know anyone who has done this with Oracle Forms and I've never heard of anyone doing this - so you are probably going to have to figure this out on your own. :-(

Unfortunately, this is not true either. For some reason, when you export to PDF, and open the PDF on a PC, it often says it cannot read the font and you get a PDF that looks like it's very sick.
I'm not sure exactly how PDF works, but I don't know why it needs to be able to read a font correctly? I thought PDFs were readable on anything because it basically printed the document on a page, which is why you cannot edit it.
