We have Legal version of Oracle 8i Enterprise Edition 8.1.6 & we are trying to install the same on Pentium-IV Mahcine with Specification M/B ODSSY 82845, CPU - 1.4 GHZ, 128 MB RAM, 40 GB HDD. But it not installing and also not showing any error. Please guide.

Another method to solve this problem:
    0. Be sure you have not installed another JVM which version is less than 1.2 on your machine.
    1. Copy all files & folders on the installation CD into a temporary folder
    2. Search all symtjit.dll in that folder & its sub-folders
    3. Rename all found files to another name, like symtjit.dl~
    4. Run the setup program in that folder
    Good luck!

  • Patching the 9i Install for Pentium 4

I was able to patch my Oracle 8i download to install and run properly on a Pentium 4 by updaring all 1.1.* JDK/JRE entries to 1.1.8_006 and all 1.2.* JDK/JRE entries to 1.2.2_007 (this is all on Win2K). This included three directories and two packaged .jar files.
I haven't had the same luck patching the 9i disks. I found an additional directory and three additional .jre files and patched them, but still no luck.
I've seen some postings on this issue in other locations, but I'm very interested in resolving this install problem. Has anyone else had any luck with this?

    Hi!
I've further news. I've tried to install Oracle 9iAS v1.0.2.0 recently, and the hack that I posted yesterday works only for the install process. After a successful setup you still need some patching... Search for the same filename (symcjit.dll) in the Oracle directory (where you installed the Oracle product). Take a look on the version of the JRE where the multiple instances of the symcjit.dll were found. If they are all JRE 1.1.x, then you're lucky, because you only need the symcjit.dll that you downloaded from Sun to make the setup work. Replace the instances in your Oracle directory with the new one.
If you find some symcjit.dll from a newer JRE distibution (as I did in case of the iSuites\Apache\jdk\jre directory), then you have to download the most up-to-date version of the given JRE (it was JRE 1.2.2 in my case), and use the symcjit.dll that you find in the downloaded package to replace the bad library in your Oracle directory.
Here's the link for JRE 1.2.2 download (if somebody needs it): http://java.sun.com/products/jdk/1.2/jre/download-windows.html

  • Oracle and Pentium 4. It;s a ****** shame !! Not the first time...

    Just some frustration
I don't like it to be a beta-tester for a company like Oracle
    which makes that much profit.
    Five examples:
1999: Oracle Application Server 4.0.7. (OAS) on Windows NT.
Service pack 5 is installed on most NT boxes (even in
Afghanistan). Oracle logic...OAS 4.0.7 has to be installed with
    SP3....:-)
2000: The Oracle installer has a Y2K bug. No public
announcements made. A simple statement on Metalink and a hell of
a job to find the patch "installer 3.3.0.1 (??)"
1999/2000: Release of Developer 6 and Oracle 8.1.5.
First step: you've to install Developer 6. Second step: install
    the database.
Typical Oracle logic...:-). I do not start with the roof when
    I'm building a house.... A few months after the 8i release ,
Oracle published the proper installation procedure for this
    combination.
2000/2001: Designer 6iR2 cannot be uninstalled on Windows W2K.
A "beta tester" in the field (so..you or me), with the name
Dimitri, had to make a remark on OTN. Compliments to Brian Duff
of Oracle who initiated the release 4 of Designer.
2001: Oracle 8i cannot be installed on Pentium 4
machines..Cause..a bug in the universal installer.
Only with workarounds which partly work or do not not work at
    all. ... Oracle ..it's a shame.
Larry..many thousands of "oracle-fans" cannot appreciate your
arrogant attitude. These people want to work with stuff which
    can do the job !
They do not want to be beta-testers for the sake of increasing
Oracle profits. This policy reflects itself in higher costs for
the smaller companies..ie: buying Oracle software which does not
    work.

    Hi,
I don't think so. As soon as a question / request is too "hard
to answer" Oracle reacts with "radio silence" (like with the Y2K
    bug in Oracle installer).
The Intel website emphasis this bug in Oracle 8i products.
    It states:
If you are installing into Windows* 2000, one workaround
recommendation by Oracle for this problem is:
Install the latest Windows* 2000 Service Pack patch:
    http://www.microsoft.com/windows2000/downloads/
Create a temporary directory on your Intel Pentium. 4 processor
    server (e.g. \TEMP).
Copy the contents of the Oracle* Server CD to the temporary
    directory created in step 2.
Search the directory structure created in step 2 for the
    existence of the filename SYMCJIT.DLL.
Rename each copy of the SYMCJIT.DLL to SYMCJIT.OLD.
Run the SETUP.EXE from the \TEMP\install\win32 directory and
    install Oracle 8.1.x.
If you have any other questions on this work around, please
    contact Oracle
Up to now no reaction. Oracle sucks

  • Error 28 when installing Solaris

I'm installing Solaris through a CD. I get it to boot, then I get the GRUB menu. There, I see three options:
    1. Solaris
    2. Solaris ttya
    3. Solaris ttya( SFV60x and SFV65x )
I try the Solaris, an error just like this pops up:
    Booting 'Solaris'
    kernel /boot/multiroot kernel/unix -B install_media=cdrom
    [Multiboot-elf, <0x1000000:0x14b9b:0x393b5>, shtab=0x104e208, entry=0x1000000]
    modile /boot/x86.miniroot
Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory
I believe I have sufficient memory. When I boot up, it says I have ~320 MB RAM. I tried researching this error on the internet, and it's been asked a couple of times before. But none of them actually came up with a conclusion. I found links to these two bug reports, but I don't know how to interpret them in any way:
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6411177
    and
    http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6387379
Does anyone know how this problem could be solved? Thanks.

After a week of working, day-in day-out on attempting to install sun Solaris 10, on 3 different pcs and struggling with error 28 the cannot fit into memory I can suggest a fix to the madness. Get a Pentium 4 pc and the installation works.
Solaris 10 does not install on Pentium III even with 256 or more memory ex Gateway Pentium 3 pc is not working. It needs a higher processor. Thats just how the cookie crumbles.
I had no problem installing on Pentium 4 with 256 memory and the installation did even better on another Pentium 4 with 512 memory.
The minimums suggested are too low.

  • Would Pentium D work on MSI 915 GM-FR mobo?

    Hey guys,
I was browsing Newegg last night and I came across an Intel Pentium D for $97.00.  My dad uses and MSI 915 GM-FR mobo (MS-7033) with LGA-775, with a P4 2.8 single core.  Would it be possible to install a Pentium D and have it work correctly with this mobo, even though it came out before pentium D?
    THanks,
    Alex T

Sorry, 915 series does NOT support Pentium D.
I think you may opt for the higher speed of P4, 3.6Ghz 661, they also on very cheap price... however, I doubt you can really feel the improvements. Your P4 2.8 single core, it should have hyperthreading already, right? the performance difference is quite little.. It's not 50% of improvement, probably just 10%.

  • Can 6i install and run in Pentium4

    Hi all,
I want to buy new P4 PC for development in Dev 6i rel 2. Can I use Dev 6i with P4?
Thanks in advance for your info.

You can run Forms 6i on pentium 4 PCs. There was some issue with Pentium 4 to do with Sun's JDK, which was fixed in JInitiator 1.1.8.10 (although it's recommended to use 1.1.8.13 as a minimum).
    So download the latest JInitiator.
Ultimately you Forms will install on Pentium 4, but you may need a higher patchset than 4, I don't know off the top of my head.

  • InDesign CS3 crashes without error when opening any 2nd InDesign file

Issue: InDesign CS3 crashes without error and remains resident in memory if we have an InDesign file open and attempt to open a second InDesign file.
    OS: Win XP SP2
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Hardware: Dell Precision WorkStation T3400, 4 gigabytes of memory, Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600
Details: No messages in the event viewer about the problem. We renamed the InDesign Defaults and the InDesign Saved Data file. We removed Creative Suite, restarted and then reinstalled Creative Suite (I could not remove and reinstall InDesign individually). We have created a new Windows profile for this user. I have one computer having the trouble. Other InDesign installations are working fine. This computer has 559 files in C:\windows\fonts. Other people that are not having the problem have a larger number of fonts installed.
The issue is not file specific. We are not running out of memory as I checked the task manager after the first InDesign document is open.
Why is opening a second document different than opening the first document?

    Hello Peter and Josh,
I'd just like to assert that I am having the exact same problem as Josh. I've spent the time to go through the steps listed above and have found the same results.
The issue as we see it multiple times daily is as follows:
    (1) User opens File1 (everything works fine)
    (2) User goes to open File2 (via explorer or via file->open) or print File1
    (3) The User Interface for ID disappears (InDesign.exe still appears in Task Manager and is NOT listed as "Not Responding", ID does not appear in the Task Bar)
    (4) The only way to continue work is to End Task/End Process InDesign.exe and relaunch.
No error messages appear, no error logs are created(that I can find). Non-related concerns caused us to upgrade this users PC. With a completely new install we are still having the problems. The systems are listed as follows:
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Newest Hardware: Custom Built Computer, 4GB RAM installed (3.24 recognized by windows), Intel Core2 Quad processor Q6600 @ 2.4Ghz
OS: Win XP SP2 (fully updated minus SP3)
    InDesign Version: 5.0.2
Older Hardware: Custom Built Computer, Intel D945GTP Motherboard, 2GB RAM installed, Intel Pentium D processor @ 2.8Ghz
    Troubleshooting:
    (1) Alt+Space and M then using arrow keys moves every other window the user had opened other than In-Design. The user has two monitors. (a) 1280x1024 and (b) 1200x1600 (yes she uses the monitor rotated 90 degrees
    (2) Log files - Non exist in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CS3 folder. I've also done a search across the entire hard drive for any "*.log" files, none of which were adobe related.
    (3) Default Printer - Changing the default printer to Adobe PDF is not really an option. I was able to convince the user to temporarily switch to a different networked printer and await the results (most likely today or tomorrow it should recreate)
    (4) /3GB switch - Getting that last 700 something MB of memory isn't an issue. I've run MemTest.exe on all the available system memory overnight in a "burn in" test. The system ran fine the sticks were nice and warm when I got in from all the hard work :)
    (5) Order of Opening - The problem repeates regardless of order. The trick seems to be opening File2 or printing File1 (I had the user only work on one file at a time (required her to close any open files before opening the next, that wasn't fun for my user but the system didn't crash on opening in this scenario, just on printing. Obviously not a permanent work around)
Any help here would be much appreciated as this has been plaguing us for months now.

The problem is your model is European only and there is not clearly a correct Manual for it. Here is the closest I can find:
    Manual
    Your board is this one:
GL40 UMA system board for use with select UMA computer models (includes built-in modem, Digital Media Slot, HDMI port, and replacement thermal material) 517835-001
That uses the GL40 chipset which is for low-end processors. This would be the best one you could install:
    Intel Pentium Dual-Core processors (1-MB L2 cache, 667-MHz FSB) ■ T3400 2.16-GHz processor 509549-001
Not a huge improvement. You could install a higher end motherboard like this:
PM45 Discrete system board for use with select Discrete computer models (includes built-in modem, Digital Media Slot, HDMI port, and replacement thermal material) 517837-001
On that you could install a Core 2 Duo processor up to this:
    ■ P8700 2.53-GHz processor 507960-001
Post back if you want more help cause this is probably a lot to digest.

  • How can i fix "invalid processor microcode update" i have a compaq dc7100 cmt

    Hi:
Now that you installed the latest microcode update, may I recommend you install the Pentium 4 650 3.4 GHz?
That processor has double the L2 cache as the one you installed, and you can run a 64 bit operating system on it.
If you have the CMT, you have a pretty wide assortment of video cards you can install so you can run all of the features of Windows 7.  The onboard GMA 900 video won't run Aero. Just keep within the power supply limit of 345W
I have W7 x64 on my dc7100 CMT and an ASUS nVidia 8400GS 512 MB fanless video card in mine, and everything works great. Recommended P/S is 300W for the card so I was fine.
The P4 650 is pretty reasonable on eBay. That is where I got mine.

  • Micron Millenium a candidate for Archlinux?

I have an old Micron Millenium XKu that came with Win95 installed.
    Pentium II MMX
I'd kinda like to give Arch a shot.
I'd probably have to put a new hard drive in the box because I think the one that's in there is only 8 GB.
I'm not familiar with the whole 'architecture' thing.
Would this computer be a viable candidate for Archlinux?

    9nine9 wrote:
I checked the ram in my Micron (mentioned in the first post) and it does have 128MB.
But it only has a modem and no NIC, so I'll have to either cannibalize one from one of my other older computers or perhaps use one of them instead of the Micron for the Arch install.
I notice that some of them have Celeron processors. If these computers are similar in age to the Micron (I think they are), would they be viable candidates too?
    Thanks again for your input.
Since the first Celeron  was based  of the Pentium II, they should be. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_P6. But if we are really talking about a first generation  Celeron, then I hope you have lots of time .
