8iR2 and Advanced Security Option?

Can anyone confirm if 8iR2 (I'm downlaoding my copy now) fully implements the Advanced Security Option ... for sql*net, JDBC, and IIOP connections?
I ask this 'coz in 8i (up to 8.1.5.0.2), even though the Advanced Security Option is 'enabled', I never got them to work and it complains of "uninstalled (or somethine like that) algorithms".

The advance Security Option on the current release only supports the SSL protocol. The version that you have downloaded supports only "export" encryption.
We are planning to release a full update of the ASO option to add things like kerberos authentication and others by mid June. We also plan to add the "strong encryption" capaility.

As for Network Encryption - Oracle FAQ (of course this is not Oracle official) "Since June 2013, Net Encryption is now licensed with Oracle Enterprise Edition and doesn't require Oracle Advanced Security Option." Could you clarify this? Thanks.

EBS R12.1 with Oracle Advance Security option - is it certified ?

Environment details are below:
EBS R12.1.1
Oracle database version is 10g R2 (10.2.0.4) .
OS is Solaris 10
We are looking for an option of implementing Oracle advanced security option (ASO) .But want to know if its certified with EBS R12.1.1 / 10g R2 database.
I checked few links but I'm not clear if its certified.

AQ and Adv Security Option

Hi,
Let us assume I have a Java client and making a RMI connection to queues in AQ in Oracle and sending messages. I want these messages to be encrypted. Do I need to have ASO option in order to encrypt?

Terrible to follow your own posts I know, but....
Turns out the HTMLDB install on the 10.2.0.1 "companion" cd uses a JDBC thin client to talk to the database. And apparently the JDBC thin client does not support Oracle Advanced Security AESxxx encryption nor SHA1 checksum methods.
So, the solution is to edit the HTMLDB client $ORACLE_HOME/network/admin/sqlnet.ora
SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_TYPES_CLIENT= (MD5)
SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_TYPES_CLIENT= (RC4_256, 3DES168, RC4_128, 3DES112, RC4_56, DES, RC4_40, DES40)
SQLNET.ENCRYPTION_CLIENT = required
SQLNET.CRYPTO_CHECKSUM_CLIENT = required
The server can be set to support all methods (but at the bare minimum it must support one of the methods above).
Restart via opmnctl and it works! The HTMLDB client now talks to the database via an encrypted connection. Much thanks to Oracle support for their help.

Quiz slide not advance when using question pools and advance answer options?

I am using CP 5.5. I created a small test where I have just 2 question in a question pool. The questions are using the advanced answer options to show some specific feedback. When I insert the questions in to the project using a random question slide, after the user answers where you should be able to press Y or click to move on, I click, but nothing happens. You can't get off the quiz slide. The quiz slides work fine when they are inserted in the project as reqular quiz slides, but not when they are being pulled from a question pool.
Is this a known bug? Is there a workaround? Anyone else run in to this?

I was having the same problem on the last Random Question slide (total 10 RQ slides), and was able to fix it by following the next steps:
Make sure Quiz: Pass or Fail actions are set to Continue for both Passing and Failing actions in the quiz preferences.
Delete the RQ slide not advancing, then duplicate one of the RQ slides working, and assign your question pool to the new slide if different from the original duplicate. This step will make sure you are using a good working RQ slide.
For some reason, my last RQ slide was corrupted and wasn't advancing to the Score slide at the end of the quiz.
I can finally finish this project.

Microsoft Management Consule and Advanced Security Firewall

I am a home user with 1 other win7 computer and 2 mac 10.5 as a network. When I set up my network, Microsoft loaded MMC,without consulting me as to its complexity or its ability to make decisions for itself,and I have been dealing with this for 4 months. If I want to surf the net, I have to turn firewall off, as the new rules I write seem to be disregarded. The system never notifys if a program is turned away, and has either removed my administraters rights, not reported errors to MS involving the security system, and has gone so far as to turn off Credintials Mgr and tried to turn MMc off 2 days ago. I am the only user usually and feel I might be better switching to Linux as I have lost control of my machine.Since I have started this post, I have been bombarded with ways to knock me off this forum from my computer. If anyone has had similiar experiences, please e-mail me.

Differences between SharePoint 2007 and 2013 security options?

Hi,
We just did a test upgrade from Sharepoint 2007 to Sharepoint 2013 by copying over the content database. One thing we are noticing is that users who had permissions to upload to a document library no longer have that option in 2013. Is there a difference
between the 2007 and 2013 "contribute" permission?
What can I do to fix this issue?

their is no difference between 2007 & 2013 for Contribute premission.
Contribute having the same rights in 2007 and 2010.

Iphone (and Ipod) security option.

Although the look and feel of those nice objects is raising the perfection, may I suggest that a little hole could be made in the metallic part in order to optionnally screw a safety accessory to keep the phone in hand/in the pocket with a chain or attached to a necklace. If you remember the old Ericsson T39M, you have the figure!
What do you think? Could'nt it be useful to avoid some theft of this very tempting object?!

Are you suggesting that users drill a hole in their hand in order to chain the iPhone to it?
As much as no one wants to loose their iPhone, I don't think that chaining it to a hole in one's hand is the best solution.

Advanced Security Option (ASO) Install. How?

How do you install ASO on a 10.2 database that has already been created? This database is running on AIX.

Refer to metalink 76629.1 which describes how to turn on encryption of sql*net packet using ASO. Pretty simple to implement.

Enterpise User Security, OID and Oracle Advanced Security

Do we also need Oracle Advanced Security when using the OID
solution (Oracle Application Server)? I just seem to remember
coming across something where some portion of the LDAP directory
needed to communicate over SSL, and I wasn't sure if this
implied that Oracle Advanced Security was needed.

Hi!
As long as you use the LDAP via SSL purely in the Application Server then there is no need for Advanced Security.
As you mentioned Enterprise Users - which is a database user authenticated by the OID, you will need the Advanced Security option.

Information required in "Advanced Security in Oracle 8i"

Dear All,
We are planning to secure our database by using Oracle Advanced Security option.My concern is that I have one central database for my main application. Some modules require security while the rest do not need that.
Can I secure some schemas of database by leaving other schemas unsecure ? I mean can I apply security option to one schema and not to the other of same database?
Anyone who can give solution to the above problem will be highly appreciated.

You can check out the VPD concept provided by Oracle in which you can apply the security on the required schema/table only and it thus meet your requirement of providing security option to one schema and not to the other of same database.

8iR2 and java.

If you get ::: org.omg.CORBA.OBJECT_NOT_EXIST then
Make sure you specify the service as sess_iiop://<host>:<port>:<sid>. I tried sess_sh with <host>:<port>/<sid> and that gave the object not exist error.
Also, a demo example I tried uses the ORACLE_SID env variable. If that is not set (the oracle install manual says it isn't necessary), or set wrong, the demo program will give the same error. (object not exist)
If sess_sh says something like no such file or directory (on redhat 6.1), then make a symbolic link from bask to ksh:
cd /bin; ln -s bash ksh
Now I want to run the hello world ejb example:
/javavm/demo/examples/ejb/basic/helloworld
To compile it you need javac. Got jdk118_v1 from blackdown and installed it in user local and expand PATH with /usr/local/jdk118_v1/bin. Do not set JAVA_HOME and CLASSPATH (yet)
If you try make now, you will get the error hello/Hello.java:4: Class java.rmi.RemoteException not found in import.
This is because classes.zip is not present in the JRE bundled with 8i. How to fix this is the question how to mix the JDK with the bundled JRE. Oracle gives clear instructions not to mess with the bundled JRE. But clearly, the absence of classes.zip in $ORACLE_HOME/JRE/lib is an error, or perhaps some Oracle linux guru can enlighten this?
I did the following:
export CLASSPATH=/usr/local/jdk118_v1/lib/classes.zip
If you try make now, it will run ok:

Hello client, your javavm version is 8.1.6.
From there things work and you can adapt things like the classpath and java_home and test if things still work. If someone has a nice setup with e.g. a jdk 1.2 environment as client working with oracle, I am very much interested in that.

I cannot access the PRIVACY menu from the Tools-Options menu to make changes to cookies and history. I can access every other menu on that page (General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Security, and Advanced. But Not PRIVACY. Please help.

I need to reset/change/clear my cookies, probably clear my cache, and change my history preferences. When I use the Tools-Options choice to bring up the appropriate menu (General, Tabs, Content, Applications, Privacy, Security,and Advanced) all allow me access to make changes (or not), the PRIVACY tab does not open up. It does no allow access to any info contained there in. It is like it doesn't exist or isn't even there. Also, in the Tools menu on the Firefox toolbar, both "Stop Private Browsing" and "Clear Recent History" are grayed out. What gives? Thank you for your help.

Update: I tried the "Toshiba Recovery Wizard" after everything else either fizzled out or hung up. After going all the way thru the recovery process (up to 100%), I finally got an error message.....it didn't work. And now, when I fire up the computer, I don't even get to that menu with the recovery options....the only thing I can boot into is the screens with the various ways to run your OS (in "safe mode", "safe mode with networking", etc).
I'm not a techie, but I'm guessing at this point, the part of my hard drive that got damaged in the fall was, at the very least, the partition with the recovery data. Couple that with the fact that this cheapo Toshiba laptop didn't even come with recovery disk (or ANY kind of disk, even basic installation software!), I'm screwed: I don't see any way to get a workable computer now without some kind of disk to boot from. So NOW my concern is more about spending the $$ for a new OS and THEN finding out the hard drive has other problems too...is broken in some other way to boot.
How to check this? As I said, I did run "chkdsk" back when I could get into the recovery menu and run the fix-it programs. It didn't note any problems. Thinking of taking this opportunity to upgrade to Windows 7 from Vista (which I never liked), but I have to know that the computer is otherwise ok....how to be sure?
