8th Core High even when Project is closed Logic X

I have a session were the 8th core is very high on the CPU meter. But when I close the session. I am auditioning sounds on the desktop via quicklook or Snapper. I see the 8th core on the CPU meter in logic is still high or peaking.
Is this normal. Is there a way to reset this without quiting logic and restarting it?
thanks

This has been something of a thorny bone of contention in several discussions Pancenter.. I believe you are correct.. but, if a core is being used outside of Logic.. then does Logic's own meters take that into account or do they ignore it? If it ignores it then what is the real load on that core.. and would it overload even if Logics CPU meter wouldn't show it doing so?
I have never found anyone who really knew one way or the other.... and could prove it
This is why i don't trust Logic's CPU meters... I just don't think they accurately reflect true usage at times... which is why i suggest ignoring them unless you get a CPU overload message or you can actually hear audio issues etc...
Also, as i have come to realize since posting that.. certain plugins (when loaded) can do strange things in the background that can affect LPX's CPU meters.. like Massive for example, when it decides to reindex it's 'presets' after you save one new preset you create yourself.. LPX shows that activity in it's meters...
Much like mdworker/spotlight in the OS X Activity Monitor... Massive can run 'wild' for a while pushing up the CPU usage on one core.. and then it just stops again... The more presets in the database, the longer it takes and the more load it places on the CPU!
One last thing however with LPX... I've noticed some strange behaviour with Core load sharing.. On occasion the load sharing is just plain wrong/screwed up with loads being placed on only a couple of cores no matter how you try and manually spread the load yourself. Restarting CoreAudio usualy resolves this... and the same project will then playback showing loads spread across the various cores as you would normally expect them to do so.
I suspect there is still something screwy with LPX/CoreAudio/OS X in regards to this whole issue.

When I try to download Adobe Flash Player, it says I need to quit out of Safari even when it's closed. How do I fix this?

Apologies for the slightly pedantic answer, but in application terms, "closed" and "quit" are two different things. An application such as Safari can have several windows open, and each of them can be closed using the red button in the corner.
However, even after all windows are closed, the application is still running until you specifically quit it. You can tell it's still running by the small light under its icon in the Dock. If you hold your cursor down on the icon for a few seconds, you should see a pop up menu with the "Quit" option - click that to quit it. Or, click the icon once (this may launch a new window), then either go to the Safari menu and click Quit, or click cmd-Q, to completely quit the app.

  • My iPad says that she is busy and is unable to accept my request even when everything is closed and nothing is being used. What might be the problem here?

My iPad says that she is busy and is unable to accept my request even when everything is closed and nothing is being used. What might be the problem here?  3 times my iPad has crashed while nothing was open or running and a small loading wheel would be moving signifying that the thing was loading something without permission.  Even when the dang thing was on my personal wireless service that I pay for.

similar to what is happening to me....the difference is, after restoring itunes detect ipod and ask to restore again and again....
I know it may look kinda stupid but: just leave the ipod there for about 2 minutes, that's about the time my itunes is taking to detect my ipod...if it doesn't work, try connecting ur ipod to other computer with itunes (no need to sync, just to check if itunes will recognize) to check if the problem is with the ipod or with the itunes and/or computer.

  • Cpu meter run high even when stopped

Hi im running logic 9. even when stopped the cpu meter run high, even peaking at times. I have made sure all other apps are closed while running logic. Dont know what the drain is? Please help...

Do you have a virtual instrument track selected?
Try selecting an unused audio track with no plugins and see if the useage goes down when idle.
Logic usually processes all plugins for current input on one core, which can max out your cpu.
You can also try increasing your process buffer.

  • T420s battery being discharges even when laptop is closed

So my T420s, even when I close the lid the battery still discharges. I talked to Lenovo help and they said it was the battery but I bought a new one and the problem is still exactly the same. Please help me! Any ideas what to do?

The computer is still on when the lid is closed. If you want it to turn off and not not use power you'll need to shutdown or hibernate with the fingerprint reader (if so equipped) turned off. You could also set it up to sleep, which will still use some power, but not that much.

  • Aperture Library Size slowing iMac even when Aperture is closed

I recently purchased an iMac 22 quad core running Lion, with all updates.  It currently has 12GB of Ram, and 190GB free on the hard drive.
The iMac would load programs like Outlook within a few seconds and was very fast.
I purchased Aperture and migrated about 38,000 images, using the exisitng file structure from my PC.  This took about 12 hours yo process, update images, etc...
Even if Aperture is closed, all programs now load much more slowly.  Outlook can take 20-30 seconds to open, and lists of email and contacts now take as much as a minute to load.
This is only true for the user account with the Aperture library, as programs for other users seems to work fine.
I tried running disk utilities, restarting machine, but no difference.
Activity monitor shows no unusual memory, CPU or disk activity.
I started a new user account, and all worked fine again...until I again created an aperture library, and again, even if Aperture is not started, everyting else runs slowly.
Is there a file indexing feature that is overwhelmed by the addition of a large aperture library?  (Deleting the Aperture library doe snot solve the problem-only startign a new user accountdoes).

    dphughes wrote:
...in both cases maintaining referenced files stored outside the catalog/library. The Aperture library is 500% the size of the Lightroom catalog - even with restricted preview sizes and no vault.
If this is true, there must be a logical explanation that is giving Aperture users some benefit for the increased Library size. Sorry been a long time since I looked at Lightroom. Does it store the same size previews and thumbnails as Aperture? Since you are using referenced files and Aperture is using non-destructive edits and even new versions do not create duplicate files (only a new set of pointers to the referenced masters), one would think previews and thumbnails must be handled differently. Since you use both, what could it be?
The Aperture Vault is a separate library than the Aperture Library so having a Vault of course should not impact the size of the Aperture Library.

  • Flash Player playing multiple sound feeds at once...even when browser is closed

I recently updated my Flash Player to 11.3 (most recent version). When I go to a site which utilizes Flash (e.g. YouTube), I will start the video, and then about 10 seconds later, I get multiple sound feeds at the same time. They all sound like commercials, or tv channels. Even when I close my browser, the sound continues. When I open my sound mixer, there is a "program" listed of "winrscmde" which is playing the various audio channels all at once. When I go into the task manager, "winrscmde" shows as a svchost.exe *32. When I stop that service the sound stops. It will start again when i access a flash site. When I uninstall Flash Player 11.3, this stops.
    I'm running Windows 7 - 64 bit with latest updates. IE 9.0.8112.16421
    Any help would be appreciated.

Well, I think I fixed the problem.
    I found this topic:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic442928.html
About the second post down, the poster recommends downloading TDS killer as winrscmde.exe is disquised as svchhost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder (you have to click on "Properties", then "Details" tab and check the original filename...if it's bogus, it'll say winrscmde.exe as the original name).
I also ran the aswMBR program as well as FixTDSS (http://www.symantec.com/content/en/us/global/removal_tool/threat_writeups/FixTDSS.exe).
That seemed to fix the issue. Just reinstalled Flash and don't get the same issues. The svchost.exe in the \windows\system32 folder is legit!
Hope that helps anyone else with the same problem.

  • Files Don't Close when Project is Closed

    Hi,
When I close an open project in the IDE, not all the files get closed. Some of them remain open in the JSC IDE, even though the project has been closed.
Would appreciate if the JSC team can acknowledge and fix the issue.
    Regards

    Hi HaroonA,
In order to file a bug, I need a reproducible case. Is this consistently happening to you? How many projects are you working with when this happens? What files don't close (JSP/Java/Navigation.xml/etc.,)? If you can give me a scenario where this fails, I'll escalate the issue.
    Thanks!

  • CS3 "browse" click on image launches CS5 even when CS5 is closed

I have both CS3 and CS5 (the latter with the 12.0.1 update),  installed on my iMac running 10.6.4..  I understand that I cannot have both CS3 and CS5 open at the same time.
I am working on a personal project in CS3 and would like to complete some pp and  printing in CS3, but  when I click on an image in CS3 Bridge, it launches CS5, even though CS5 is not open, and won't let me work or print  in CS3.  I quit CS5 again, and start over but the same thing happens. What am I doing wrong ?
    Thanks..... Carolyn

My tech came today and solved this problem for me.
I knew that you can only have either CS3 or CS5 open , not both.  The problem was that if I was using CS3 and doubled clicked an image in a folder to open it, CS5 took over.  So here's what solved the problem.
With only one of the programs open, open the folder with the images you want in either CS3  or CS5.  (Or I guess CS4 if you have that).  Then click on the image you want to open to highlight it. ( Don't double click to open it.)  Go to File > Open With >  choose either CS3 or CS5 from the drop down menu to open the image.  That's it.
After installing CS5, that seems to be the default program, so that is why double clicking on an image in CS3 automatically reverted to the default CS5 to open the image on my Mac.
Thanks to my tech for figuring this out for me !

  • How can I remove webpage from appearing on screen even when I have closed it in safari

I am using an iPad AiR. I have updated to iOS 8 in the last two weeks. Prior to the update, when I came out of a website I would close the site in the browser bar and my safari screen would be cleared. Since the update, whenever I open safari it always has the last webpage on the screen..... it does not clear. The address bar is always filled with last entry. can I change this, if so how (as an OCD sufferer, it is doing my head in!)

Indeed that was brain slippage.  Sorry about that.  I even had my iPad with Safari open while typing on my Mac to be sure I said the right location.  Oh well, you found it.    Have fun!

  • Has anyone seen their iPads using your wifi non-stop, even if you are not using it, even when it's closed with the smart cover?

Lately my internet usage is up to the roof. I though somebody was hacking my wireless router so I made it super safe with lots of restrictions.
But that didn't stop the download of stuff over my wireless network. When I monitor who or what is using my wirelss, only my iPad was on, so, the moment I turn the wifi off on my ipad, the download stop. Turn it back on, it goes like crazy sucking up data off my wireless router for no reason. There is no indicator that the iPad is using the wireless yet, it is my iPad downloading things that I can't even seen, it does even with smart cover on!!!!. It's been over 50GB in only three days. I don't even have that amount of data on iCloud.  This began a few days later after I upgraded my iOS to 6. But also, I'm thinking it could be an app that I installed. Or is it possible someone can use my iPad as a middle point to access my router and steal my internet. I have restored the OS on the iPad and it keeps doing it. Anyone has experienced something similar?

I'm going to guess that your battery life is also not so hot.  What I suspect is happening is thatbthe pad is locked into an update loop with I cloud.  As an example, if you have addresses that do not agree, the cloud back up will continue to try and correct itself, using both battery and wifi ( or cell).   It may also be an app trying to uzpdate itself.
To troubleshot, try turning thigs off.  If you are using the cloud, turn off all syncing and see it the problem stops.  Then turn them back on, one by one, until you find the culprit.  If it is an app, it may be harder to find, but the steps are the same.  Turn off all notifications, and uninstall anything you added around the time the problem started.
A frequent culprit is magazine, comic, and newspaper subscriptions, that are constantly trying to update themselves.
Keep looking, you will find it.

  • Firefox randomly opens websites, even when it is closed

random websites pop up when I am idle, even if firefox isn't running

Did you download Firefox from the official Mozilla site? Sometimes if you search on Google or any search provider, they sometimes have "Advertised links" which are sometimes Firefox bundles that have been slightly modified/shipped with malicious software.
    * https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all/
If you did download from a different website and believe that to be the cause, you can report the link here:
    * https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/about/legal/fraud-report/
Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer that you may not be aware of. First check your home page settings to make sure nothing was appended (if there is a | followed by another link, that tells Firefox to open another tab with that link):
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Options > General
Also check your add-ons for any suspicious extensions:
    * Tools (or [[Image: New Fx Menu]]) > Add-ons > Extensions
Check your list of install programs in Windows - Control Panel > Programs and Features. Usually malware comes bundled with other applications, so if you sort by date and see several applications installed at the same day, it may be easier to find suspicious applications that way.
You can also check to see if your shortcut has been tampered with. Right click on your Firefox shortcut and select Properties. Check the target line under the Shortcut tab for any web pages after the "firefox.exe".
You can also try the Reset Firefox feature which can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information. Note: After resetting Firefox, you will lose any extensions, toolbar customizations, and some preferences. See the [[Reset Firefox - easily fix most problems]] article for more information.

  • Why does my mac mini re-open all of my previous sessions activity and windows even when I have closed them before turning my mac off?

When ever I boot up my mac mini it re-opens all of my activity from my previous use of it. This happens even if I quit all the running programes before I turned it off. It does not effect the computer when its running but it is bugging the crap out of me. Any help would be much appreiciated.

Try going to System Preferences > General > and uncheck Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
    See if that helps.
Also when you say you quit all running programs, do you just click on the red X ballon in the top left or do you actually CMD + Quit?

My computer can be on while i am working or be on hibernate mode, or stand-by. But at random times throughout the day or night, it will just start playing music, commercials, or news broadcasts. I can't see anything on my computer, I can only hear it. It does stop if I disable my connection though. But as long as I am online, it plays.
