9.0.2.x access_logs:  how best to minimize in production?

In 9.0.2.x on Windows 2000, bugs prevent the correct use of CustomLog to minimize over-writing to the OHS (Apache) access_logs by DMS and OPMN. The only way to overcome this is with a lengthy workaround. Fun. The following is the default found in httpd.conf and builds monster access_logs:
CustomLog logs/access_log common
I have instead tried to use TransferLog. However, there are other bugs that inhibit its use and one must update the OHS config anyway or the webserver won't re-start. This is a very bad thing. None of the following statements in httpd.conf work:
TransferLog "|rotatelogs.exe D:\ora9ias\apps\apache\apache\logs\access_log 86400"
TransferLog "|rotatelogs.exe logs/access_log 86400"
TransferLog "|rotatelogs.exe logs\access_log 86400"
TransferLog "|rotatelogs.exe access_log 86400"
Is there a simpler more elegant way to keep the log files from growing so large? My only instance is in production and I'd like to avoid making any uninformed changes to the architecture. Daily rollover is preferred but not critical. Thanks! -- Mike
[Note:  Per MetaLink, at least one of the TransferLog statements should have worked, especially the third.  I could get the OHS (Apache) to start, but beyond creating a zero byte access log, it never began to write to it.]

Hi,
Try the following:
1. Backup $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/*/config/default-web-site.xml
2. Edit $ORACLE_HOME/j2ee/*/config/default-web-site.xml to change the following:
<access-log path="../log/*_default_island_1/default-web-access.log"/>
to :
<access-log path="../log/*_default_island_1/default-web-access.log" split="day" suffix="yyyyMMdd"/>
This should create a new file every day in the format default-web-access20030522.log. Change the split to "week", etc. as you see fit. More information can be found on http"//www.orionserver.com/docs/access-log-format.html
I've been able to get that to work for a 903 middle-tier but not for 9021 OC4J. Good Luck.

  • One Computer, Two Accounts - How Best to Proceed with MacOS 10.8.2?

    My wife and I want to share our new iMac, and I'd like some advice on how best to do this without messing things up.
    We both have iOS devices to sync, and we both are using the same iTunes Store Account. However, we each have our own iCloud account. We each have our own email accounts, Hotmail accounts, and Yahoo accounts. We each have our own account for the iMac, which I assume you would need if you wanted to maintain two different sets of Mail accounts and two different Facetime "accounts," what to speak of different desktop customization options.
    Things we would like to share without duplicating files include: iPhoto library (~100 GB), iTunes media files (over 300 GB), Contacts list, (maybe) Calendar, and (maybe) Safari bookmarks. We do NOT want to share e-mail, Reminders, Facetime. Ideally, I would like for her to be able to sync her devices entirely through her iMac account. However, I am not opposed to her syncing her iOS devices through my account for some things and through her account for other things, if that is not easily avoidable.
    Regarding the iTunes library, I could go either way on her having separate library files with separate ratings & playlists or just sharing the same library setup that I have. However, I would want her to have access to the same metadata that I have for all music and video files, since I have lots of custom album art as well as lyrics loaded in. Do we have to use the same library file in order to have access to the same metadata, which will be updated on a regular basis?  If so, then is there a way to do that via two different computer accounts, or does she pretty much have to sync with my account?
    Now regarding iPhoto libraries, I wouldn't mind us sharing the same "library" as well as the files, including ratings and albums. I would like for the "faces" setup to be the same for both of us, if possible, so that she does not have to repeat the process of face tagging. I read in an older article that sharing the iPhoto library could be accomplished by sending the iPhoto library file to an external hard drive, but as that seemed to be an older approach, I thought I would ask here if that is still the ideal approach. I might want to send the iPhoto library file to an external HD anyway for space considerations. But if I do this, and we are both using the same library file for viewing photos, then does she still see the same albums, events, and tags that I have created already?
    Is there a way to share contacts and calendars without having to share other things like Notes and Reminders? I suppose I could have her sync this information via my account, but I'd be greatful to learn of a better way if there is one.

    You can share out both the iTunes library and the iPhoto Library in their respective preferences. However, the sharing account must have both iTunes and iPhoto running. You can keep the account running with those things open in the background using Fast User Switching. Enable that in the Users & Groups system prefs and then never log out, just switch to the login screen or the other account using the Fast User switching menu.
    I haven't done much actual use in either, so I don't know what the limits are (like making a playlist out of the shared tracks, syncing with iPhone/iPod, etc). For iPhoto, all the photos are available, but if you want to edit one, you have to import a copy into your own library. Another option might be to not keep the media inside the Library, but store it in the /Users/Shared folder. Then, set up your Libraries to leave the content where it is (Preferences). However, I don't think you'd get the metadata for the iTunes music. I believe that is all stored within the iTunes Library.
    You can share iCloud calendars so the other person can see your calendar by right-clicking on the Calendar name. There will be an option to share the calendar, there. Also, you can do so from the iCloud web interface.
    I've got nothing on sharing contacts. Not sure of a good way to do that besides maintaining two sets. You can start from the same source, but it will diverge over time as contacts are added and removed individually.

  • How best to use TWO Time Capsules, Airport Express and Apple TV?

    Hello
    I have the following Apple equipment and am wondering how best to plug it all together. At the moment I am not using some items at all because I do not know how to best use!
    1. MacBook Pro (2012 model) 'Mac1'
    2. MacBook Pro (2009 model) 'Mac2'
    3. MacBook Air (2011 model) 'Mac3'
    4. Time Capsule 1TB (model A1355)  'TC1'
    5. (another!) Time Capsule 1TB (model A1355)  'TC2'
    6. Airport Express (2008 model)
    7. Apple TV (2013 model)
    8. LaCie 1TB USB Hard Drive
    9. Apple iPhone
    10. Sonos system
    CURRENTLY
    TC1 is plugged into the Virgin Media modem to provide a WiFi network called 'Amer's Apple Network' around the house. The Virgin Media wifi has been switched off to reduce interference.
    TC2 is not being used. The Airport Express is plugged in upstairs (or sometimes near garden) to extend the 'Amer's Apple Network' and this seems to work fine.
    Apple TV is plugged into main TV and is plugged into 'Amer's Apple Network' directly using Ethernet to TC1 but often runs slowly and does not work if Mac1 is not awake (or iTunes is not running on Mac1).
    LaCie is plugged directly into TC1 and currently has a old copy of my iTunes library stored on it which my Sonos system access. However, there seems to be a problem in that iTunes randomly uses that LaCie library and/or local Mac library. Often we get a pop up message on Mac1 saying "Library cannot be found" and we have to manually navigate to the LaCie drive (via the TC1 folder) to open iTunes. Also connecting iPhone to Mac1 seems to work very slowly as it appears to be trying to back up to LaCie drive.
    QUESTION
    What would be the best, most efficient way of using all (or if some is redundant equipement then which), to set up the following:
    1. A shared home network which enables all three computers (and any future Macs and/or iPads etc) to access one master shared iTunes library, which is the one that is updated with any new music, films etc added via any of those machines
    2. A shared home network that enables a shared files folder but also allows each user to keep their own personal hard drive (eg locally on whichever machine they are using).
    3. A fast (as possible) iTunes back up process when connecting iPhone to computer
    4. Usage of both TC1 and TC2 (and Airport Express) to extend network around the house (several weak spots exist) and also to maximise storage using the 1TB of each TC1 and TC2.
    5. Would it then also be possible to attach the LaCie USB drive for an additional 1TB storage? If so how and would it be very slow? From existing usage it appears to be very slow when used as a regular access drive, so perhaps better as a 'slow' drive that is just occassionaly used for back up and nothing else
    Main question is (to the networking experts!), how would you personally set up all above to give best wifi coverage, fastest back ups, access to Sonos for iTune library, access to Apple TV, and shared folders etc etc. I basically seem to have lots of kit (albeit some quite old) and nothing seems to be working together particularly well.
    Happy also to ditch any bottlenecks in the above equipment list (eg LaCie USB drive?) and add something which would better bring together the other components?
    Any thoughts much appreciated!

    Amer

    So ... FINALLY ... I found some time to implement this!
    Steps taken and results:
    1. Moved my entire music library to Mac1. Used the opportunity to also share my other Mac2 onto HomeShare and copy across any music files from Mac2 onto Mac1 that were not already there.
    Result:  Mac1 now holds my whole music library locally. Works incredibly fast whenever playing a track, adding a new track or updating info on existing track. Good!
    2. LaPastenague's instructions for bridging TC1 with TC2 worked a dream. Only thing is they are basically next to each other as I don't have the energy (or cabling expertise) to install (cleanly) long runs of ethernet cable.
    Result: Got a clear Wifi signal, not sure if any faster than before but I assume two TCs next to each other both sending out the same network signal can't be any worse than one. Main thing is that I have an extra 1Tb network drive (i.e. TC2) connected to TC1 which I can access from all my Macs now.
    3. Copied the entire Mac1 Music library over to TC2 drive into the Data folder. This happened relatively quickly (I think!) ... but would welcome any comments on whether slower than expected, to highlight if I might be able to improve the connection. 12,000 songs in 2 hours, with Mac1 sending the files to TC2 wirelessly. I know I could probably have connected Mac1 to TC2 by ethernet cable to speed up, but I had run out of Ethernet cables by now!
    Result: All my music (as of today anyway) now on Mac1 AND on TC2 in normal readable format (i.e. by Sonos and as a simple back-up that can just be carried around and copied anywhere in the event of loss of Mac1 drive
    4. Set up TC2 Music Library in Data folder to be the networked music folder for Sonos using "\\TC2\Data" (ps. why doesn't Sonos allow a simple click and select option for choosing drive and instead force us to go back to the 80s and type in drive path which isn't always clear, especially on a Mac!)
    Result: Sonos can access all my music (as of today anyway) on TC2 and no need for Mac1 or any other Mac to be open.
    BUT: As you may have guessed, the issue with the above set up is that as soon as I buy a new song, it will get added to my Mac1 quickly and smoothly ... but the area where I really use my music (i.e. Sonos via TC2) will have the older music library.
    QUESTION: Is there any way in which I can adjust the above set up, so that whenever I add new music to my Mac1 it also copies across to TC2? Don't mind if this is done slowly and later (eg in middle of night) but of course don't want to have to copy across manually each time. Would prefer it to just update newly added tracks regularly.

  • How best to setup a Mac Pro with two hard drives for 1st hard drive or OS failure?

    My first Apple, a Mac Pro,  is to arrive on Monday (1/7).  I will be putting Win7 on Bootcamp and installing Parrallels.  It will have two 1T hard drives.   I would appreciate
    any advice on how best to set it up for best recovery in case of a hard drive or OS crash.   You can tell I have experience with Windows.    It looks like my best choices are
    either disk cloning software or just installing OS X from the recovery disk  on the second drive.   Apple says it is legal to do another installation.   I know the disk cloning will not work on the bootcamp partition which I plan to use for the Parallels program.  Can OS X have an option to boot from two differnet disks and OS installs?
    What I am really wanting to do in the event of a crash,  is to just boot up on the other disk and keep working.     I try to keep data on a separate partition  with backups so
    that a disk or OS crash doesn't cause any data loss.

    I do not use windows.
    However on my Mac Pro for cloning/backups/bootable backups i use Carbon Copy Cloner.
    It has an ability to clone entire disk (unless specified differently) so I can boot from another disk or restore back if I want to.

  • How best to migrate from MacPro to iMac w/ SSD and extrenal drives

    Currently I have a MacPro with 4 drives - 3 1TB and 1 2Tb, the 2TB drive is my main hard drive, so it has system, apps, documents, itunes etc....and it has been upgraded and migrated from one computer to the next as long as apple has had the ability to do so (and before that by moving over targeted drive manually). I currently am running 10.6.8 on the machine. I have ordered a new iMac w/ an internal 512gb SSD drive, and after speaking with an Apple rep, I got a THunderbolt enclosure to house my current 4 hard drives. Now my question is how best to get my preferences etc into the new computer w/o dragging along all the old stuff...(ie old apps not compatible w/ Mountain Lion, old system folders, etc). Here is what I would like to do:
    1. setup SSD with OS, fresh installs of Apps, and my fonts (i am a designer and i have a gazillion fonts and they always take way to long to load into my font app).
    2. I would like my 2TB drive to eventually just include my home directory where all my files, and such will be stored. But I would like to keep the drive as is to make sure everything is working just in case, I dont want to have any down time during the upgrade process (ie if a client calls me and needs something while I am still setting up I could boot off the 2tb drive and work). But after all is working properly then I would like to make it just the home directory and main place for all files etc
    3. My remaining 3 drives are broken up for manual backups of my work on 2 of the drives, and then photos and mp3s on one, and movies and tv shows from itunes on the other. I dont currently run Time Machine or Retrospect or RAID....
    I see most people saying to create 2 admin accounts, one that would stay on the SSD drive and the other which could be mapped to the 2TB drive and have its home directory there...but what do I do about moving preferences etc? is there a way when setting up that will let me import my current account and let me keep it on the external drive as is? should i move the files that i want to keep off the 2tb drive, wipe it to get rid of the old apps and system and then put back the home directory??I don't want to run into trouble with permissions, and I really dont even want to create 2 accounts because I hate having to close everything and log out for simple installs and updates...i have 2 on my macbook pro now and i run into errors all the time of i cant update this or that because of admin account...even though both accounts are set as admin.
    I want to keep the whole upgrade simple, but I would like to keep this fresh system clean as  am sure there is way to much left over garbage from upgrades past. So just not sure how best to do any of it.....

    I purchased the DataTale RS-M4t SMART 4-Bay Thunderbolt RAID storage enclosure. But it can do both RAID if you get their data manager software download, or it can just mount the drives and be used normally. So basically I can plug all 4 of my current drives into it...and it into my iMac and it will be same as if I had it in my tower....so really not moving over a ton of stuff. I will load all apps fresh onto the brand new iMac - so the SSD will be a clean install...my worries are trying to get access to home directories etc on the current main drive and have things get setup correctly, keychains, bookmarks, etc...as well as my iTunes which has iPad and iPhone backups, etc. I am just not sure as how to best setup the SSD to get the most of its speed while being able to get my current account working but on the second external drive.

  • Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

    Hi, Can anyone recommended software to import dvd to iMovies. I need to import about a dozen homemade DVD's and edit them into a single DVD comprising the 'best bits'. How best can I do this. I have an external hard drive available for the job

    You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
    which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D2187Z/A/quicktime-mpeg-2-playback-component-f or-mac-os-x
    (unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
    Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
    For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
    Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
    And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
    No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
    Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion or later:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
    The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion onwards, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it. See this:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3381
    To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
    The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. (The same applies to Mountain Lion even though that has it preinstalled.) You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • How Best To Install Snow Leopard For A Non-Techy?

    What is the best route to go down to install Snow Leopard please? I received my copy on Saturday but I'm apprehensive at installing it!
    When I installed Leopard I ended up with a lot of problems, some of which are still not resolved, such as the non-recognition of log-in passwords etc. I still have to provide a password when switching back and forth between users and in order to close down I have to log out all users individually!
    As a keen Mac-user (but by no means a technical expert) I would like my Snow Leopard experience to be as painless as possible, so how best to install it please and at the same time eliminate my old Leopard problems outlined above?

    For the most painless upgrade possible, I suggest you just follow the instructions under the heading "Upgrading Mac OS X" in the Snow Leopard Installation Instructions document.
    As a precaution, you may want to run Disk Utility's "Repair Disk" step first. You can also run the "Repair Permissions" step if you want but I doubt that is necessary.
    Your 'old problems' aren't problems, AFAIK. You must always provide a password to change accounts & all accounts must be logged out to shut down or restart the computer. These steps insure the privacy of each user's account & make sure each user has a chance to save any open documents before the computer shuts down. IOW, they are desirable features, not problems!

  • I'm looking for some inspiration here on how best to set up my TC

    Copied from a post else where, any help greatly appreciated!!
    I'm looking for some inspiration here on how best to set up my TC for my needs & wondering how others do for similar needs....
    I have a 2TB TC that I have set up so that all of mine & my girlfriends photo's, music, movies & documents are on the one location so that we can access it wirelessly from both our MacBooks & also from a MacMini which I'm going to buy in a month or 2. Changing the location for where iTunes & iPhoto look wasn't a problem but browsing through iPhoto in particular is really slow due to the number of previews I presume, and also we are now unable to have any of the media with us when traveling about, synching phones on the move is a disaster as well!
    Anyway,
    is there an easy way of setting up iTunes / iPhoto so that we can have all the data on the TC managed on the MacMini but import small iTunes Playlists & iPhoto Albums to our MacBooks without having to change in preferences where the applications look for data each time we get home?
    Any help anybody can offer would be grand!
    Thanks in advance.........

    You topic might be better suited for the iPhoto or iTunes forums, since your question seems to be with the application(s) functionality, not really the Time Capsules. However, if you start iPhoto or iTunes while holding down on the "option/alt" key, you can manually select a library to access. When you want one of your computers to access the library on the Time Capsule, make sure it's mounted as a shared volume on your Desktop and then open iTunes and point it towards the library on the Time Capsule. If you want to use a smaller library on your computer, open iTunes and point it to the library on your Mac. I've never switched back and forth multiple times between multiple libraries, so you might check in the iPhoto or iTunes forums to see if any issues may arise from doing this repeatedly.

    I am a 'newby' to the discussion world.  Hope I am doing this right.  How best to save photos?  I want to protect my photos (15,000 of them) by putting themon a portable drive and storing it in my safety deposit box.  Is it better to export them all, dragthe Photo file, use Time Machine – or are there better alternatives?

    Welcome to the discussions! You can use Time Machine and I would also recommend for you to manually copy your iPhoto Library (on your Pictures folder) to an external drive/thumb drive so you can restore it from there should you loose your TM backup. Exporting them from iPhoto would not preserve the libraries' integrity neither your originals, should you choose to edit them in iPhoto.

  • How best to include a copyright in JavaDoc?

    Hello.
    I am wondering how best to include a copyright notice, standard legal boilerplate, etc. in JavaDocs.
    I realize that many developers include the text directly in a JavaDoc comment (perhaps using a template in their IDE for generating that automatically), but that seems less than ideal to me. Having a long boilerplate takes up a lot of unnecessary space in source files; with several hundred or thousand source files, that can be a big waste. Also, if the notice needs to be changed or updated, than going back to find and edit every instance of the notice can be challenging, even with a global search and replace. What I would like is basically the equivalent of an "include" tag that will include a single copyright notice wherever it appears, but JavaDoc does not appear to have a suitable feature.
    The initial approach I have taken is to define a custom taglet with this ability. I am also playing with a custom annotation for noting copyrighted code as an additional reference to the copyright notice. The basic structure I have so far looks like this, in org.sample.legal:
    - Copyright.java (interface defining a few constants such as default copyright date, default owner, etc. as well as the full default copyright notice)
    - CopyrightAnnotation.java (annotation type for marking code as copyrighted)
    - CopyrightTaglet.java (taglet for adding "@copyright" tags in JavaDoc)
    Here's what the top of CopyrightTaglet looks like, to give a better sense of what it can handle:
    package org.sample.legal;
    import com.sun.tools.doclets.Taglet;
    import com.sun.javadoc.*;
    import java.util.Map;
    * Represents the "@Copyright" tag.  If empty, the default copyright notice
    * will be displayed.
    * <p>This tag can be used in any overview, package, class, or interface
    * {@link com.sun.javadoc.Doc}.  This is not an inline tag.</p>
    * <p>The tag can display a default value, the default value modified with
    * a different copyright date, or a completely custom value.  To display the
    * default value, use "@Copyright" alone.</p>
    * <p>To specify a different date, enter the copyright years separated by
    * dashes (-) or commas (,); optional spaces are allowed.  For example, the
    * following will be recognized as valid dates:</p>
    * <ol>
    * <li>"@Copyright 1999"</li>
    * <li>"@Copyright 1999, 2000"</li>
    * <li>"@Copyright 2001-2003</li>
    * <li>"@Copyright 2001-3, 2005</li>
    * </ol>
    * <p>To display a completely custom value, simply enter whatever text is to be
    * displayed after the "@Copyright" tag.</p>
    * <p>The text is displayed in italics to remind the reader of its
    * importance.</p>
    * @Copyright
    @CopyrightAnnotation
    public class CopyrightTaglet
    implements Copyright, Taglet {
    private static final String NAME   = "Copyright";
    private static final String HEADER = "Copyright:";The "@Copyright" tag by itself produces output (based on the constants in the Copyright interface) like this:
    Copyright:
    Copyright &copy; 2008 by Sample Organization. All rights reserved.
    I have this all working fine, but my main question concerns whether this is a reasonable approach. Is there a better approach to this problem of making a single copy of the copyright text available everywhere? What other approaches are common?
    Thanks for any advice.

    Your approach lets you choose which classes, interfaces and members are copyrighted, or apply different copyrights for different parts of the source code. • How best can i optimise this script

    I have a script the loops through a table and function. it works fine but it takes a longer time complete even though resources are given. the code below is just the same code i used how best can i represent it for speed even though i have all resources.
    For each_member in ( select from MemberTable where MemberID = 'ALL')*
    Loop
    Begin
    if Age >= 18 then
    hold:= 'Adult'
    end if;
    For Each_history in (select Acct,fx_function(each_member.ID,each_member.Acct) BR,
    Movement from History a where history_ID =each_member.Id)
    loop
    Begin
    insert into NewFilteredData (act,BR,mvt)
    values (Each_history.Acct,Each_history.BR,Each_history.Movement);
    end loop;
    end loop;
    end loop;
    commit;
    How best can i optimize this script to move data faster because they are a lot about 6000000 records to be moved.
    please help.

    Unless something is horribly wrong (i.e. the optimizer picks a radically incorrect plan), if you can do something in SQL, it will always be faster to do it in SQL. Doing things in PL/SQL, particularly using cursor FOR loops and single row inserts, is the slowest possible way to do anything (well, other than having nested FOR loops).
    Long before you start looking at things like the APPEND hint, I would focus on implementing a single SQL statement that generates the correct results. Once you have that and you have a benchmark, you can decide whether it is "fast enough". If it is (and I suspect it will be), you don't have to delve any deeper. If you need more performance, you can start looking into parallelism, the APPEND hint, etc. but be aware that this generally increases the complexity of the system.

  • How best we can use the Rollback and RollbackAlways mechanism in Visual Studio Release Management Template

    Hello All,
    We need a clarification on Rollback and RollbackAlways in Release template.
    We checked a scenario for Rollback and RollbackAlways:
    In Release Template, we have the first activity as “Configure Application Pool” and then followed by a rollback action of “Create Application Pool”
    and “Create Web Site” then followed by "Code Deployment" via TFS build.
    We tested with 2 scenario’s:
    With App Pool and Web Site already existing: when triggered the build, configure
    app pool succeeded, then Rollback action was skipped (as previous action was successful), finally deploy the code executed (code deployed) and build got succeeded.
    Deleted App Pool and Web Site: when triggered the build, configure app pool failed (as no app pool existed), Rollback action executed (as previous action failed) – created app pool and web site then finally
    deploy the code executed (code deployed)
    But build failed (Error: Configure app pool action failed).
    Ideally the build should succeed as the roll back action got executed and code deployed successfully.
    Please correct us if our understanding is wrong.
    Also, Kindly let us know how best we can use the Rollback and RollbackAlways mechanism in Release Management
    Looking forward for your positive response.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi Shashank,
    Rollback Always runs if any of the actions in the template failed. Rollback will run if action just above rollback fails or if any of the actions below the Rollback fails.
    Article here (http://www.incyclesoftware.com/2014/03/understanding-rollbacks-release-management/) clearly explains how Rollback and Rollback
    Always work.
    I think you come across this issue since you are using build to do the "code deployment" action. You should use the release template to do that.
    As far as I know you cannot use Rollback to achieve condition check (App pool exist in your case) action.
    For this you can create your own Power Shell component (which checks if the app pool exist and is not create it) and add it as a tool in RM server (RM Server Inventory).
    Another option is you can follow the workaround in below thread "Answer" quoted below. That is execute Remove app pool regardless if it exist or not (which does not fail) and then create app pool.
    I was able to get it working by removing the app pool which does not fail if it doesn't exist. Removing then creating seems the long way around but it works.
    Flow:
    Remove Application Pool
    Create Application Pool
