9.1 Update Requires Upgrading the iPhoto Database Again?

I had iPhoto 9.0.1 installed and running fine. When I updated to 9.01, it ran the "Upgrading iPhoto database". I just installed the 9.1 update, and it is "Upgrading iPhoto database" again (and much slower this time). Is everyone having this experience?
The other odd thing, is that on startup, the iPhoto 9.1 saw all the iPhoto library backups I have, and asked me which to use. That never happened before.
David

Thanks for your response TD, but this App, iPhoto 11 came already installed on my computer.  I registered my computer, but you can't register a product without a serial number.  I don't have the iPhoto 11 serial number because it came installed on my computer already.  I tried re-installing iPhoto 9.1 after registering my computer and got the same error message.  However, I did find out that I hae 90 days of complimentary phone support.  So I will be giving Apple a call.

The iPhoto library should be in your user folder/Pictures unless it was moved.

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to upgrade our SCCM 2012 SP1 infrastructure to SCCM 2012 R2 so we have setup test environment to test SQL database upgrade before doing same in production.
But while testing SQL database upgrade on test machine, it is getting failed with below error.

Can anyone please help to get this resolved.
    Thanks.

We found out that there were duplicate entries in the PkgStatus_G and the PkgServers_G tables in the SCCM DB.  We identified them, deleted them , and then we were able to run the /TESTDBUPGRADE command and it went through fine.  We performed
all of this on a COPY of the PROD DB and then moved the changes in PROD.  Hope this helps someone.

when i updated my macbook, the iPhoto app disappeared, it now wants me to purchase it to download it again, how can i get this back? please

    Hey Mrlablack,
Since you had already purchased iPhoto, you should be able to redownload it. To download previous purchases on a computer, your computer must be authorized for the Apple ID that was used for the original purchase. For more information on the steps to reinstall purchased apps, check here:
Mac App Store: Buy, download, and install apps
    http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11493
    View and reinstall purchased apps
To view a list of all purchased apps, click Purchases in the toolbar.
To install an app, click the Install button for the app in the Purchases list.
To hide a purchased app in the Purchases list, hold down the Control key, click the app you want to hide, and then choose Hide Purchase.
To view hidden apps, choose Store > View My Account, enter your Apple ID and password, click View Account, and then click View Hidden Purchases. To show a hidden app in the purchased apps list, click its Unhide button.
    All the best,

  • I've ju App Store won't let me upgrade the iPhoto ,it says update unavailable with this apple id store (something like that). What can I do to fix this. I want to be able to access my photos. Thank you.

what should i do when the app store doesn't allow me to upgrade iPhoto after i upgraded my mac to yosemite?

To upgrade to iPhoto 9.6.1  you must first delete all previous versions of iPhoto that are on your hard drive. Also delete any alias files that you may have created for iPhoto.
Next go to the App Store and look under Purchases for iPhoto 9.6.1.  You should be able to download and install it.

  • My iphoto would not open it says require upgrade, my iphoto would not open it says require upgrade

My iphoto will not open, it says I need upgrade, which I did yet it goes to gives the same instruction over

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what exact message do you see when iPhoto tries to launch?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?

  • How do i upgrade the iPhoto from 9.5.1. to 9.6

iI have recently bought a Apple MacBook Air which has iPhoto 9.5.1. I read that this can be freely upgraded to 9.6. How do i do this?

    Have you upgraded to Yosemite?
You need Yosemite with iPhoto 9.6.
Sign into the appStore > Store menu with your Apple ID.
Then iPhoto 9.6 should be showing on the Updates page of the App Store. You may need to "accept" iPhoto  on your Purchased tab at the App Store, before it will appear on the Updates tab.

  • I have just installed yosemite and installed iPhoto but when i go to upgrade the iPhoto library and just shuts iPhoto???

i have an iMac  on OS X Yosemite 10.10. i have two equal user accounts and have just upgrade and installed the latest version of iPhoto to use on yosemite, every thing was fine and when i opened iPhoto it said i needed to upgrade the library which it did, great....however when i went into the other account to do the same, it installed the latest version fine and i then got the message to upgrade the library so i clicked yes and it shuts down....why??????

Uninstall... run the Cleaner... Restart your computer... Reinstall

-using the cleaner after uninstalling and before reinstalling will usually help

  • Creating a removeable subset of the iPhoto Database

My iPhoto library has grown to the size where I have to make CD/DVD Backups of the photos (and subsequently store the disk images on an external hard drive for further backup safety), just to have enough space to keep Mac OS X running smoothly.
Looking at these disc backups, it seems as if they just make a smaller iPhoto library, storing all the information, modified versions, and originals.
My question is, can I have sub-libraries on an external drive where I just need to plug in the drive, and can then access all the photos in that library and use them normally? It seems as if iPhoto is already able to do it with discs burned, but there is no other way to export photos in this manner.
I understand Apple needing to dumb down the abilities of iPhoto to keep inexperienced users from messing up their iPhoto libraries, but this feature seems as if it could be easily implemented without trouble.
Any ideas on how to do this?
    15" PowerBook G4 (DL Super Drive)   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   1.5GB RAM, 80GB HD

Ok, how do I tell Apple that hard drive space, although cheap, does not grow on trees, especially in my PowerBook
I'm looking through the "rebuilt" library (which I had to do the "rebuild thumbnails" thing to, because it didn't get that right), and there are tons of pictures in the "modified" folder that I did absolutely no modifications to.
It turns out, iPhoto is making 2 copies of every portrait (camera turned 90°) image I take when it imports them into the library. This wastes about 3GB of my hard drive space...
And for some reason, when I did the rebuild thumbnails, it duplicated the thumbnails for movie files, so now there are 2 of each of those in the "modified" folder for each movie.
I used the iPhoto Library Manager to rebuild, then used the command+option menu to recreate the thumbnails.
Whatever is going on, Apple needs to fix it. My 10 mega-pixel camera already fills up my hard drive, and making needless copies of photos doesn't help it at all.
Overall, the iPhoto Library Manager seemed to work fine for me. I'd like to split the library now, but unfortunately, that's a "paid" feature, so I'm going to have to work around that (duplicate and prune...) Apple should give that guy some cash, and incorporate everything it does into iPhoto, just to make it easier for people.
Heck, I may just go ahead and spring for aperture (or Adobe Light Room), but seeing as my camera doesn't support RAW images (thank you Canon...), I'd be paying for a ton of features I won't ever use. I want to have the ability to easily manage my photos, and be able to export, print, make slideshows, open in iMovie, etc. iPhoto already does it all, it's just that if you want to store photos in more than once place, things get complicated.
Apple needs to make "iPhoto Advanced" or "Aperture Express"...

  • How can I rebuild the iPhoto database?

Twice I have received message about my thumbnails and permissions needed to be worked on.  The first time the "Genius" did a "rebuild" and that worked for a while.  How do I do a rebuild?

The format is the drive - to have the iphoto library on it it must be Mac OS extended (journaled) - in the finder fight click on the drive and get info - the info window gives the format
And please explain the two new variables you just introduces without giving a single answer to  my preious questions
it has a very poor connector.
I have copied all photo's back to the MAC hard drive.
    and please answer
What version of iPhoto? Is OS X 10.6.3 as you state correct?
Remember we can not see you nor read your mind - I ask three questions - you have not answer a single one yet - without answers it is not possible to help

  • Why do the Camera Raw Compatibility Updates require Aperture or iPhoto?

Since the OS comes with the abiility to handle camera raw files installed at system level, shouldn't the updates cover the system, not require those apps? It's really annoying to buy a new camera and not be able to use Preview to look at the raw files.
After all, ISN"T CAMERA RAW SUPPOSED TO COME WITH THE SYSTEM?

Aha! Thanks Killhippie. I checked another forum about the free iPhoto upgrade, and they told me to look on my purchased tab, not my update tab, and there it was. It never showed up as a update nor was it automatically installed, but I had it lurking in the cloud for me all along.
Clinton - iPhoto was there free and I didn't know it. Another hidden Apple feature. You didn't miss my point at all - Apple just confused the user!
Thanks to both for the answers - I hope someone else with the problem wlll benefit from the thread,

  • Newest Firefox update screwed up the yahoo toolbar, AGAIN!

Once again the update, which is SUPPOSEDLY an upgrade screwed up the yahoo toolbar so that ALL the app buttons have disappeared and can't be reloaded. This seems to happen every other time Mozilla updates Firefox. WHY is it so impossible to do an update that doesn't screw this up? This is a common constant issue with updates.

I don"t know how or why this worked but I went to tools clicked on add-ons and went to Yahoo toolbar and hit options button. I added a skin to my toolbar and wow there it was my yahoo toolbar. Hope it works for others.

  • Upgrading iPhoto database

I recently upgraded to OSX 10.8 and also upgraded to iPhoto '11.  When opening the new version of iPhoto, it prompts me to upgrade the iPhoto database.  Right now (24 hours later) the blue stream has gone almost to the end of the line, has stalled, and the white spinny icon is still rotating,  Should this take so long?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Larry,
Thank you for responding so quickly.  I did what you suggested and the window instructed me to rebuild my library, then I was again prompted to update my database and the same thing is happening.  I'm afraid I've lost my library.  It's not even showing up in my hard drive.
