9.2.1.4 Cannot drag and drop from explorer to Itunes Library

Before this update I used to be able to drag folders from my external drive to the itunes library. After this update it no longer works. The only way I can get files to add anymore is to go to File to Add folder to library. Is there a fix for this?

I'm having the same problem. I used to be able to drag files from a music folder into my itunes library by selecting the songs (multiple songs if need be) then just pulling them over to itunes (toward the top, library section). Viola... songs would be added. Now... I can only get them into my itunes library by going to file - add file to library - then selecting the songs one at a time.
I just recently moved my itunes library to a new PC and am wondering if a setting is preventing this from happening?

First off, your installation disc is in all likelihood faulty.

  • Dragging and Dropping from Explorer

I'm interested in getting some very simple resources on how to do drag and drop support from windows explorer/whatever in a Swing application.
(I realize DnD is in awt, but I figured here is still a good place)

Please don't RTFM me, I'm smart enough to research those documents on my own. If I'm here it's because they haven't helped or I haven't been able to find that one "magic tutorial" that says it all.
Your link doesn't help at all.
I'd like to have some simple resources on getting drag and drop working with EXPLORER (or any native file manager).
Not between java applications, and I need the document to be simple. At best, someone might have the kindness to just outline the objects and the required actions to extract a filename from something dragged onto an application from a file manager.
Maybe even a sample! Who knows?

  • Cannot drag and drop from OS X 10.4.3 to Classic

Hi - I have an iBook with Tiger 10.4.3 and I have a Classic app. that I want to drag images from my desktop to my classic app. - It's almost like its blocked. I have tried to load the file within the application and nothing happens. In this iBook setup - Classic is not listed as a startup disk and the desktop folder for classic is hidden. When I added the Classic install in 10.4.3, OS 9 Classic Desktop Folder alias did not appear on my desktop and according to some Apple tech articles this is not unusual for some configurations. It also discussed that the Classic desktop folder is hidden. But does not offer solutions to unhide it. Can that file folder be unhidden? I am so frustrated because I remember having this kind of a problem a long time ago with my iMac, an earlier version of OS X and Classic. I have also tried to update Carbonlib to the newest 1.6 because I did find some forums that talked about carbon applications and this type of problem - however not exactly. When I installed the carbonlib update, the update stated the installation was not necessary. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch for your help. It helped a little, but I don't think its going across. But what you told me about the volumes, was similar, except the path omitted the word volumes. You confirmed what I had begun to find out. What's really strange, is that I am not seeing standard desktop icons for Classic in that folder. So I am not sure I am actually seeing the desktop altogether. It was mentioned in one of the Mac support pages that with the hidden folders you will not see the desktop contents since the folder is hidden. It is now unhidden. I understand that with some of the Macs this is normal, but I think that it creates this type of problem. Now I am going to load a graphics app on the classic side to see if I at least save a graphic within classic, that I will be able to copy it into another classic application. At least that will confirm if it is a classic problem or the application that I have been trying to do the dragging into.
I appreciate your taking the time to help. I tried the stickies idea too without the success I had hoped for. I am still having a problem with this application loading the graphics. I will keep working on it. I am determined to get this right.

  • Cannot drag and drop from music to file - why??

I have just set up on itunes but having downloaded music from a CD, I can't then move it from 'music' to a new folder (or any other folder for that matter). Why might this be - is there something I might not have done or something needs disabling?
    Any help greatly appreciated.. Thanks!

    Welcome to AD!
You can move tracks to a playlist, and create Playlist Folders. But you can't just drag songs into a folder.
You can only drag playlists into a Playlist Folder.

  • Hi, I cannot drag and drop my apps in iTunes 11.

When I click on an app in my iphone 4 apps page I just get a blue border around the app but it does not move. Everything else seems to be working OK. Help appreciated

Photos is a brand new, completely rewritten application. Adobe (and others) have not yet added compatibility with it.
Exporting your your images to the desktop, then bringing them back into Photos, is the only way for external editing right now.

  • Cannot drag-and-drop songs and playlists

I just got a new 2nd Gen Nano on Saturday. iTunes 7.0.1.8 updated the Nano to software 1.0.2. It will sync songs and playlists when connected to the computer. However, if I want to manually add songs/playlists, it won't let me. I cannot drag and drop from my library to my iPod. Also, all the songs are greyed out on my iPod list and it will not let me drag and drop within my iPod. They only way it will let me update songs and playlists is with the automatic option.
    What is going on?

The songs are "greyed out" because you have the iPod set to transfer songs automatically. That is also why the padlock icon appears at the bottom of iTunes next to the space used/available.
If you want the songs to be bold and selectable/editable, then you need to change to manually managing your songs.

  • I can't drag and drop from a data CD I recorded

I recently burned some audiobooks files (in mp3 format) as data cd's in Toast 8.0.1. When I go to reload them back onto my 20" 2 Ghz Dual Core Intel I can't drag and drop the files directly into any folder while using the columns view in a finder window. I can do it if I drag onto the music folder and let it spring open down to the level of the folder. I also can drag the mp3's into iTunes and then into the folder. This is not CD related since I used several diff brands.
I constantly update, backup, repair permissions, and do other maintenance so everything is up to date. I have noticed this behavior just since I started to use the program called Audiobook Builder. I am (and have always used) a non-admin user account. When this started a few months ago it seemed to go away with a restart, permission repair, or a logout but now it seems permanant. I checked user permissions on my home folder - I have not added any software since adding Audiobook Builder. Any idea's? I read something about trashing a com.apple pref but didn't try that.
I suspect Audiobook Builder since it changes the permissions and filetype to the iTunes Audiobook filetype but have not seen anyone reference this.

While the programming of course could be done, the idea of a function that performs on original unprocessed images seems to violate the whole idea of what Lightroom was designed to be. At least that's my opinion. Of course, the idea that Adobe should do this programming for a relatively small number of people (you're one of a very few people to ask for this, that I have read) seems to be something that isn't going to happen.
I agree, I can't see much reason for drag-and-drop to drag the unprocessed image - in other words, an image that isn't the one that you see when you drag and drop.  I can see that just filling this forum with "why the heck does it do that????????" posts.  I could be wrong, but I suspect that Adobe won't do that.
But if you do want to drag-and-drop the original unprocessed image, you can do it very easily now.  Right click the image, choose "show in Explorer", and then drag-and-drop from Explorer.

  • I can't drag and drop from windows explorer into my ipod on itunes. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I manage my music/podcast library on my Vista PC using windows explorer because I don't like how iTunes does it. Then today I can no longer drag and drop from explorer onto my iPod in iTunes all I get is a circle with a line through it meaning "iTunes says no." Any suggestions?
    Ta.

  • IMovie '11 on 10.6.8 greys out contents of library, so I cannot drag and drop clips to timeline.

This has happened on multiple occasions. I don't know why Apple can't figure out how to create a reliable program. I have been using iMovie for several months now, updated to '11 in April, on OSX 10.6.8, and usually it works fine, but occasionally, out of the blue, all of the clips in my library will be greyed out. I cannot edit them in timeline unless I go to each clip individually and open up the separate editing window, I cannot drag and drop the clips to timeline, I have to manually copy and paste, and I cannot see any of the clips unless I roll over them with my mouse. My free trial of Final Cut Pro just expired and I have a couple of videos that are almost finished and this is extremely frustrating. I have seen others with similar experiences and I'm wondering if there is anything at all I can do about it. Thank you.
P.S. I did try restarting the program about 5 times and restarted my computer. Nothing gives.

Of course, I might have found a fix right after posting this. In case someone else comes along with the same issue...
I closed my MBP cover, and re-opened (this solved a menu bar issue I was also having). I re-opened iMovie, and deleted the project I had started that couldn't be continued. I started a new project, and things seemed to work just fine. So I'm not sure what it was that caused the problem, but so far it seems to be working now. Good luck!

  • Cannot drag and drop icons,

I'm working on a Mac Power PC G4, OS X, version 10.2.8. About a week ago I started noticing a problem dragging and dropping items with the trackpad. I can click on a file to open it, but I cannot drag and drop files to move them. If I am in a Word document, I can no longer drag highlighted text around either, or drag songs to playlists in iTunes. However, if I open a window, I can drag the open window around, just not any of the files displayed in it. The same thing happens when I hook up a mouse. I've checked the Finder view options and have done a test to check that it is not a corrupted system preferences and have tried many of the things listed on discussions I have seen online. I'm hoping that I don't have to resort to reinstalling the operating system. Everything was working fine until about a week ago, and I am aware of no changes or damage to the computer that could have caused this problem. Any help?

I created a new account with administrative privelages, but the new account still does the same thing. I also tried trashing com.apple.systemuiserver.plist as suggested to me by someone else, and it had no effect.
    Thanks for you idea.

  • Cannot Drag and Drop

Hello I cannot drag and drop anything on my iMac, i can move windows and etc.. but cant move files, dock icons, or desktop icons such as Macintosh HD or my external hard drive Lacie, also cannot copy and paste, i copied a song from itunes to paste in my Macintosh HD and iTines quit without an error popping up saying it unexpectledly quit, I cant play movies in Quicktime either I will go to open a .mp4 movie and it says movie could not be opened operation could not be completed. (OSStatus error-1407.) What its wrong??? I use my iMac for alot of thing and I use drag and drop and quicktime alot sooo what is the deal!!

Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at the top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

  • Cannot drag and drop CERTAIN photos from iPhoto 9.5.1

I cannot drag and drop certain photos to the desktop (Mac OS X 10.9.3) from iPhoto 9.5.1
When I encounter this problem the pointer has a circle with a slash as I drag the photo to the desktop and the file will not copy over.  I'd say 25% of my photos suffer from this problem.
    Some things of note:
    - photos that are affected have been taken by variety of devices: iPhone, DSLR camera, or scanned in from film (no device is specific to this problem)
    - a photo that cannot be copied is located in the same subfolder as one that can be copied so it's not folder specific
    - I have trashed the iPhoto prefs files as well as the cache file in Mac OS X 10.9.3
    - I have repaired permissions and the database as well as rebuilt the database in iPhoto all to no avail

  • Cannot drag and drop PDF pages in Yosemite Preview App

I suddenly cannot drag and drop PDF pages into the open preview PDF Yosemite> Why?
I open a PDF in preview.
I used to be able to simply drag a PDF from the desktop (or a JPG) into that open PDF in Preview.
    Now it won;t let me?
Is this a bug or is there a new procedure for this?
    Thanks!
    Mike

Have you run any "cleaning" or "optimizing" apps on your Mac or have any antivirus software installed?
Boot into the Recovery volume (boot with the Command + R keys held down), select Disk Utility and repair both the disk permissions and the disk.  Reboot normally and try again.
If the above fails reboot into the Recovery volume and reinstall the system. Repair disk permissions afterward.
Also, as a test, log into another user account on your Mac and see if the problem persists there.  If it does then it's a system wide issue.  If not, it's an account issue.
