9.2 Update killed my audio input monitoring during play!

I can monitor my audio input while I'm stopped, but as soon as I loop and play (not in record mode) it automatically kills monitoring of the signal. YET, I can still record if I need.
This didn't happen until I updated to 9.2.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Thanks!

I got other problems after updating Logic, they occured twice. One was not having 'open recent session' and the other was not having 'incompatible' plugins menu item in Logic AUs. Perhaps this is similar to my problem and the solution was to trash Logic preserences and rebooting. Try it, you don't loose anything that way. I'm not at my mac now but the preferences can be in MacHD/library/Preferences (start with com.apple.logic) or in your user Library/preferences. There are 2 files and I'm not sure which one but if you trash both (without deleting the files, only trash) you can try if it brings the requested feature back. One of the files will reset your settings but if you restore it after the test you will have them back (of course with the 'bug' itself. Later today I will pot you the exact one to throw.

  • Help...cannot get audio input monitoring t work

when punching in..I cannot hear audio before and after punch. Please help!!!

Try deactivating Input monitoring so you'll hear the track before and after the punch - like that you're actually listening "post tape". If you have an external Audio Interface/Mixer with monitoring capabilities use that instead.

  • 10.5.3 update killed my 24" E248WFP monitor

Well, not exactly killed, just rendered my external monitor unusable. If I try to connect it via the mini-DVI connector my macbook screen just keeps flickering like it's trying to detect a monitor but can't anymore. With 10.5 and 10.5.1 I had no issues with this monitor. As soon as 10.5.2 went on, I began having to reset my PRAM and do a cold boot with the monitor connected in order for it to display properly. Now after the 10.5.3 update the monitor no longer is detected no matter what I do leaving a rather large paperweight stuck in the middle of my desk. I reformatted and reinstalled back to 10.5 and the monitor works perfectly again. I updated to 10.5.1 and it too worked. And as soon as I went back to 10.5.2 it began experiencing the same problems.
I contacted applecare phone support but after an hour they concluded they could not help me "but that they would continue working on the issue". Hmm...I'm a little skeptical about that one.

For now and until Apple fixes the bug, the only solution I have found is to turn the proxy off in the Network settings. If you need to use a proxy server for work/school, you are best off with using Firefox. Firefox has a number of add-ons that allow you to turn the proxy on and off (for instance Switchproxy, which is very useful and allows you to turn the proxy on only selectively). • Audio Input Monitoring Problem

    Hello,
I am having a problem where I can always hear the signal being passed to the external inputs of my soundcard, regardless of whether or not Software Monitoring is enabled, in fact, Logic doesn't even have to be open! Due to this fact I believe this is an OSX issue, however, since it is effecting Logic I am hoping someone here can assist, as I am at my wits end.
    My setup:
    Dual 2.5 G5
    2gig RAM
    OS X 10.4.4
    Logic Pro 7.1.1
    Emagic AMT8
    Emagic a2|6
I have tried reinstalling the a2|6 software thinking the problem may have
been corrupted drivers, but to no avail. I have tried to mess around both in
the Sound Preferences and Audio Midi Setup sections, but no love there
    either.
    Weak sauce.
Anyway, I'm sure this is something simple and I am just doing something
stupid wrong, but I can't figure it out, and hence, I post to you. Thank you
in advance for your time and consideration.
    michael

do you have a external mixer mixerboard ?
or is your source plugged straight into your interface ?
maybe its not software monitoring it might be hardware monitoring so check your mixer or if not check the control panel of your interface because you can use it as a virtual hardware monitoring when you change few settings like...
in the Patch bay of delta 1010LT i can set...
Analog output 1/2 to Monitor Mixer, then i'll set the monitor mixer to settings like ...
    Master on full
Software input 1/2 set to full( which is what is coming out of logic or the mac )
Software input 3/4 set to full or off ( which is what sends to my TC Electronics Finalizer 96K)
Analog IN 1/2 and 3/4 set to full ( which is automatically receiving the signals from external source even if i don't open any applications)
S/PDIF also set to full ( this monitors the output of my TC Electronics Finalizer 96K )
so check your interface to make sure none of this is not the problem if you don't want to continuously monitor the input source
using my setup means it bypass the software monitor maybe that what the problem is for you

  • Audio Input Monitoring

I am unable to monitor audio in Logic 8. I can monitor MIDI fine and can also monitor audio in standalone applications such as Amplitube. I can hear the audio played back when i have recorded it, but not in the monitoring mode. I have checked obvious solutions..... stuck.

right. but its not software that is the issue.. its guitars, and mics..
Er... I'm not sure you grokked what I was talking about. Audio interfaces do one of two things, when it comes to monitoring signals you are recording (guitars, mics and stuff).
Either it is doing direct monitoring, where it's using the interface's inbuilt mixer to pass the audio coming in on it's inputs directly to its outputs (and then on to your speakers).
Or we do software monitoring, where the signal comes into it's input, it passes those signals to Logic, which then routes it via Logic's mixer back to the audio interface and on to your speakers.
So if you want to monitor through Logic, Software Monitoring must be turned on in your audio preferences.
signal shows up in interface, i dont think its a hardware problem. hmm.
You haven't answered my question as to whether software monitoring mode is turned on in Logic. it needs to be, otherwise you will not be monitoring through Logic while recording, you will have to use direct monitoring and use whatever software controls your audio interface's mixer to route it's inputs to it's outputs.

  • 7.1.5 Update Killed my Audio/ no sound

After updating to QT 7.15 and iTunes 7.1 I can no longer play ANY audio. QT and iTunes don't even play. When I go to my Sound Prefs Pane, the alert sounds just flash, regardless if i use built-in audio or a FW/USB audio device. Sound is set to 44.1/16bit. I removed all the older Codecs, no luck. If I boot from another system drive everything still works fine, so it is not a hardware issue. The "Flash sounds" is unchecked in Universal Access.
    Very frustrating, any ideas?
    thanks!

  • 10.7.3 update killed my audio

I just upgraded from 10.7.2 to 10.7.3 today via the combo update and have lost all audio. I'm not getting any sound from either the built-in speakers, my speaker system, or my headphones.
The Sound pref pane doesn't show any options other than 'Digital Out', my task bar volume slider is grayed out, and my keyboard shortcut volume controls are also non-functional.
I've reset the PRAM to no effect.
Any other ideas, or is my volume toast until Apple addresses this with the next incremental release?
Thanks for any and all assistance!
    Regards,
    Ken

You could also have a look here and, if you haven't done it already, try re-installing the combo updater using the tips in the link:

  • Huge latency on audio Input Monitoring came outta nowhere!

Hey guys. Bit stumped here..never had latency issues before..
So heres my setup, 8channel mixer into a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile, which is like a DJ interface, but meh, it gets the job done alright.
My project is, Track 1 Superior Drummer, Track 2 - EZPlayerPro, track 3-7 Guitar tracks.
Now it plays back great. But when i try to record, nooo way! The latency is terrible! cant follow the beat! And the part that has me confused is, ive changed nothing! ive added nothing to the channel strips, i dont have any crazy long audio going on here, this is just a scratch track i record ideas on...
Ive played with the buffer a bit, and havent gotten anything but making it worse
Basically i started an idea yesterday, walked away, worked on it throughout, came back today, and its there on not just 1 project, but all of them.
Yes ive tried the reboot, i hoped it was that simple
    Anybody any suggestions?

    is PDC set to "ALL"?
are you run with Multiouts instruments?
I suggest to use Lowlatency mode
    or this set

  • Audio input is not playing sound.

I have a HP Touchsmart 2. I run windows 7 home premium Bit. Whenever I plug my headphones into the left headphone audio jack you can barely hear any sound.  For instance if I was playing a movie you can hear some of the background sounds (background music but no speech) faintly.  I have checked the master volume and everything is up. The audio plays fine when nothing is plugged in.  I haven't messed with any of the settings.  The other week I did install Rosetta stone and started using there headphones/microphone that plugs into a different port on the right hand side.  All audio seems to be coming through the USB por ton the right hand side now.  I don't know how to change settings back.  Please help!

Apparently the Audio Midi Setup configuration did not imply that it wasn't stereo. I was not using Audacity correctly to record stereo - but now I am. Problem solved.

  • Audio crackling killing FCP audio but not in stand alone QT player

I have a file I recorded in IShowU.
When I load it into final cut every once in a while I get a large crack and pop from the audio that kills my speakers requiring a reboot. If I play it through headphones it still cracks but it doesn't kill the audio.
If I play that EXACT same file in Quicktime stand alone player it plays perfectly. However, if I export the file from Final Cut and try to play it in Quicktime it has the same pops as it does in Final Cut.
    Any ideas?
    This is FCP 6.0.6

Did you ever solve this problem? I'm having the same issue with some audio in a FCP project. It was fine last night, but when I hopped on my machine this morning to work on it, I played the project and now have a segment of audio where it just gives a large pop/crackle and kills the speakers. If I have my headphones in, it keeps playing and there is the loudest static you've ever heard. The weird part is there is other segments of audio from the same clip in other parts of the video and they're fine. Additionally, when previewing the segment that crackles in the viewer window, there aren't any problems. It only happens in the timeline.

  • Audio hang during play on fcp x 10.06

why wav audio file hang during play on fcpx 10.06

Don't know the cause but for starters try trashing the preferences.
Corrupt preferences can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do using this free app.
    http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
    1. Ensure that only  FCP X  is selected.
    2. Click Trash
The job is done instantly and you can re-open FCP X.
There is absolutely no danger in trashing preferences and you can do it as often as you like.

  • 10.4.10 Update kills most USB audio input devices for iChatAV

I have a Logitech Quickcam 5000 Pro that has a built in Mic. The UVC compliant camera still works, but under 10.4.9 the mic worked also; however, it no no longer shows up as an audio input device.
Intel Mac Mini 2GB RAM / MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.10)

Add another to the pile, slightly different: No audio support for my FIREWIRE based audio interface.
    Running 10.4.10, software update installed.
OSX recognizes it, at any sample rate I want to use it at.
Sound setup, everything else (my whole entire studio) recognizes it.
iChat AV, when I go to the video tab to select "microphone" will give me default of none and then my device name (mLAN audio network). As soon as I select my device, the microphone option disappears completely. The only way to get the selection option back is to restart iChat, upon which the problem repeats itself.

  • Digital audio input via mini jack/toslink from ADA, monitored via USB audio output... is this do-able? I know digital audio input should be okay but how do I monitor it, apart from using the internal speakers?

Digital audio input via mini jack/toslink from ADA converter, monitored via USB audio output to amplifier... is this do-able? I know digital audio input should be okay but how do I monitor it, apart from using the internal speakers?

You can output audio thru HDMI, with appropriate adapter.
You can use additional cheap external usb audio for monitoring.

  • Audio Input Noise After Recent Update

Something happened after the most recent update, I now have terrible line level hiss/noises when using the built-in input on my MacBook Pro. No trouble with my Firewire audio input though. The noise is really bad and records to track, making me believe that this is an input issue. I'm not positive that it's from the LE8 update (it could have been any recent update) but I've never had this problem before. It happens with both Logic Express and Garageband, rendering the audio input useless. Anyone else having this problem?

I have the same problem, and when I put my hand on the audio plug I feel something like static electricity.
I installed 10.4.x, no noise and no electricity
I don't know any other solution
My english is really really bad..

  • Horrible Line Noise w/ Built in Audio Input After Update!

Thanks for the response guys. It seems we're in the same boat.
The problem is intermittent on my machine . It has occurred three times since I bought it. The fist time it lasted for a day and a half. I rang Apple support and went through a number of steps until the P-RAM suggestion which seemed to fix it. A few days later it disappeared again and resetting the P-RAM had no effect. My wife continued to use the computer (without sound) and some hours later it came back after a restart (she only restarted it because she is in the habit of shutting down instead of using sleep). The problem occurred again. That time I restarted the machine a number of times, with and without the external speakers plugged in, with them turned on and off etc. This had no effect. I gave up. Some time later my wife went to use the computer and it came back. I now believe that the P-RAM solution that seemed to fix the problem the first time was just a coincidence.
I rang Apple support again and they gave me the following steps (A,B & C of which I went through the first time the problem occurred):
A: Log in through another account and see if it had the same problem.
    - The built-in audio was still missing.
B: Run the disk utility on the hard drive (after booting from installation DVD).
    - There were nil problems on the HD, but it did not fix the problem.
    C: Reset the P-RAM.
    - This worked the first time though it has not worked on subsequent re-occurrences of the problem.
    D: Do an Archive Reinstall.
    - I did this today; though the built-in audio was working, I just wanted to complete the suggestions the Apple support person gave me. The problem has not reoccurred yet, but it has only been a few hours. I will be using the computer as much as possible tonight to see if the problem reoccurs.
If the problem reoccurs I'll be taking the machine in for warranty repairs, or better still replacement.
