9.2 Update refuses to Install

I got the request to update my iTunes to 9.2.1 and complied and attempted to update. For some reason though I downloaded everything and the said "Errors occurred while installing the updates. If the problem persists, choose Tools > Download Only and try installing manually." The problem persists so I did as the error report told me. As soon as I tried that I still wouldn't install and said I either need to log in as an administrator or connect one, which I have no idea how to do. It refuses now to let me into iTunes and every time I try to it attempts to install and repeats the administrator warning when it fails. Is there any options besides losing all my music (had it on external hardware but that broke) and doing an uninstall/install overhaul??

I'm in the same situation. My problem is that itunes wont look up the names of songs in its current state and I think it happened since I've been in this loop of trying to install itunes 9.2 for 64 bit win 7. Every time I open itunes I get the message that it needs to be re-installed. It works OK except it doesn't look up the names of songs. I get a message to download the new verion. I am the administraitor and I save the 64 bit installer to my desk. Right click on it and run as an administator -- it goes through the whole process and then hangs and a message comes on and says I don't have enough permision. It says something about running it mannually using tools and I have done that too. Can remember at what point I got that option but it was on ontrying this and searching boards or other types of support for e days e of the itune pop ups. I've been now.

  • HELP: Compressor 3.0.2 Update refuses to install.

I needed to install DVDSP CONTENT so I used FCPS2 Installer Disk. Unavoidably, ALL apps were re-intalled before the content loaded. So I downloaded all the app updates. All updated fine except Compressor 3.0. The 3.0.2 Update refuses to install. And, Compressor refuses to fully start-up.
    There is a Receipt PKG for Compressor 3.0, 3.0.1, 3.0.2, plus Qmaster_Frameworks.pkg 3.0 and Qmaster.pkg 3.0
Removing 3.0.2 doesn't allow either Compressor 3.0.1 or 3.0.1 to install.
    1) Any idea what's wrong and/or a simple way of fixing?
    2) Is there a way of Installing Compressor 3.0 from the Install Disk WITHOUT returning all the other apps to their original state?
< WHY on earth does the Install UPDATE versions that are obviously newer with older versions? >
    3) Will Pacifist auto-remove the current version of Compressor or do I still need to TRY to do this manually?

Interesting. Check one thing for me. Go to your Control Panels, click on Software Update, and see if "Download important updates automatically" is enabled. If not, enable it, then click the Check Now button. This will download the file to your drive, and you should see it.
If you do this, and the file still isn't there, then I'm stumped as to why it isn't downloading. Like I said, I had this same issue on both my computers, and the same solution worked both times.
Let me know how this turns out.

  • Aperture update refusing to install

Although i have Aperture 3.3 installed the update to 3.3.2 refuses to install with message "Aperture 3.0 or later is required to install this update."  This is the reason what App Store ist not listing Aperture when an update is available.
What could i do to overcome this?

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.6)
that cannot be your system, if you are using Aperture 3.3?
Have you moved Aperture from the Applications folder to a subfolder or renamed it? To install the update, aperture must be named simply "Aperture", without any additions and located in the Applications folder on your System volume.

  • Snow Leopard Graphics Update refuses to Install

    I'm using Mac OS X 10.6.4
And the Snow Leopard Graphics Update won't install, and reports:
"Snow Leopard Graphics Update can't be installed on this disk. This update requires Mac OS X 10.6.4."
So far I've tried...rebooting and disk verify, and would welcome any other suggestions.
    Thanks!

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
the Snow Leopard Graphics Update was released before your 2010 Mac Pro was released so chance are very good that the Graphics Update is already incorporated in the Snow Leopard version you have on the Mac Pro.
Plus the 2010 Mac Pros are not mentioned in the "Products Affected" list of the Graphics Update http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4286
So, in short you don't need this update.
    Regards

  • 2 ThinkVantage System Updates refuse to install

Fired up the ThinkVantage System Update program yesterday and today and I keep getting the same two updates in the Optional updates tab, ThinkPad Power Manager and Lenovo AutoLock.  Selecting both and pressing Next goes through the download and installation process.  The first item supposedly installs whereas the second gives the following message:
    1 Package did not install
      Lenovo AutoLock
If I choose to install this manually I am told "This program requires Windows 7 or later." and install fails.  Regardless because of the first update I am prompted to restart my machine.  Doing so and firing up ThinkVantage System Update again shows that both updates are still available!  Checking the version of Power Manager it shows that it indeed has not been updated.  Any suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

No clue why it did not install through ThinkVantage System Update, but downloading the updates from the lenovo support site and installing them the old fashioned way worked.

  • 10.6.7 Combo Update refuses to install on new MBP '11

I have a 2-weeks old MBP 17'', just downloaded the 10.6.7 combo updater which tells me that
"Mac OS X Update Combined can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update"
    When selecting "Macintosh HD".
    Any suggestions?
    Regards
    Markus

I do have a similar issue with a MB. There was a big problem with the last update (10.6.6). I had to wipe the disk and start from scratch and reinstall 10.6. The subsequent update to 10.6.6 worked alright after that.
Now the same thing with 10.6.7. It recognizes the new version and downloads it. The installation starts as usual, only to get stuck minutes before one would have expected it to finish successfully.
When I start all over I seem to be stuck with the first download. How can I persuade the MB to start a new download?
(By the way: My iMac accepted the update with now problems whatsoever)

  • Pro Application Support Updater refuses to install

When I download the ProKit updater and then run it, I get "You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
My iMac is less than a year old. Loads of RAM and disk. Latest O/S with updates. Final Cut Express 4.01, with its update.
Any ideas, or do I call Support?

I am having the same issue. Both through Software Update and downloading the update manually. The exact error message is:
"You cannot install Pro Application Support on this volume. There was an error while evaluating JavaScript for the package."
I also have the latest Java updates and OS so I am not sure what to do at this point.

  • Firmware 2.3 update refuses to install

I tried installing the 2.3 update as I have with all the past firmware releases. This time however, my Apple TV restarted, then said update failed giving me the option to restart/run diagnostics/factory restore.
Diagnostics were ok, so I restarted and re-downloaded the update. It failed again and after a factory restore, still will not install.
Worst of all, I gave up 2.2 for 1.0 thinking my most recent firmware was corrupted. Now I really need that update

I found the solution so this response is for others who run into this issue.
It turns out that the Apple tv is able to tell when the hard drive has been replaced. The fix is not the easiest thing in the world to pull off, but shouldn't be a problem if you have already been messing the with the hard drive.
The fix that worked was to replace the factory restore partition of the Apple tv with the 2.3 firmware and then run a factory restore. It seems that the hardware check only runs while in upgrade and not restore mode.

  • Software updates will not install...  error message

Software updates refuse to install for several weeks/months... backed up to six or more updates... cannot get any help from apple unless i pay them 75 dollars but i am sure it is something simple... when i attempt to update, i put in my pass code, they download and when they go to install the error message says "none of the checked updates can be installed, sorry an unexpected error has occurred" vague enough for you? Can anyone help me out, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

What happens when you run Software Update?
Get MacJanitor and run the Maintenance scripts. When it's finished quit MacJanitor and restart your Mac.
Have you checked the hard disk for errors?
Insert Installer disk and Restart, holding down the "C" key until grey Apple appears.
Go to Installer menu (Panther and earlier) or Utilities menu (Tiger and later) and launch Disk Utility.
Select your HDD (manufacturer ID) in the left panel.
Select First Aid in the Main panel.
(Check S.M.A.R.T Status of HDD at the bottom of right panel. It should say: Verified)
Click Repair Disk on the bottom right.
If DU reports disk does not need repairs quit DU and restart.
If DU reports errors Repair again and again until DU reports disk is repaired.
When you are finished with DU, from the Menu Bar, select Utilities/Startup Manager.
Select your start up disk and click Restart
While you have the Disk Utility window open, look at the bottom of the window where you see Capacity and Available. Make sure there is always 15% free disk space. Not enough disk space can cause directory corruption.
If you cannot boot from your install disk, try booting in Safe Mode

  • Updated my mac to mountain lion 10.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install? Can anyone help me?

updated my mac to mountain lion 10.7.8.3 and now my app store, mail or facetime won't open. Also, I am not longer able to play videos through firefox. I tried downloading the combo for mountain lion and it refuses to install saying that I need to see developer. Whenever I try to open my appstore, mail or facetime it says that the programmes need to be installed and might not be compatible with this version of mac operating system. Can anyone help me?

It's not a bad install of Mountain Lion. I've had the same thing happen to me, but it affected not only Mail, but a variety of other programs including iPhoto and MS Office, where I had to delete preferences, caches, and reinstall the OS as well as the program itself. I'm still having issues with Mail, so I've gone to another program.
Everything was fine upon the initial install. I restarted my iMac about two weeks after the install, and that's when the issues began to happen. I've reinstalled Mountain Lion twice, but the same issues arise.
As I mentioned above, you'll need to figure out which preferences are causing the issue, then reinstall the program, as a fresh reinstallation will do you no good unless you wipe the drive completely.
Here's a thread that helped me with iPhoto:

  • Adobe update refuses to work for CS6 and Photoshop elements. App manager refuses to install.

Adobe update refuses to work for CS6 and Photoshop elements. App manager refuses to install. Support Advisor is of no help.Anyone had the same problem? It has all worked perfectly for some years now, but refuses this week.Has Adobe changed something.Windows 7.

Re: Adobe update refuses to work for CS6 and Photoshop elements. App manager refuses to install.
created by Pat Willener in Downloading, Installing, Setting Up - View the full discussion
    What exactly means "refuses"?
This is the message which comes up if I try to update (from the Help menu) or re-install my licenced copies of CS6 or Photoshop Elements 9.
    “We've encountered the following issues
Installer failed to initialize. Please download Adobe Support Advisor to detect the problem”
    Get Adobe Support Advisor”
    OR
on trying to open PhotoshopCS6 I get this message:-
“Adobe Application Manager required to start your trial, is missing or damaged.
Please download a new copy of Adobe Application Manager from http://www.adobe.com/go/applicationmanager_uk”
When I follow these instructions and try and start up/install or update Photoshop CS6 I get the same messages all over again. This has been going on since Tuesday afternoon and I am anxiuous to resolve the problem. For several years now all this has worked perfectly through your website and I cannot understand what has changed.  Once I cancel these messages the products themselves seem to function OK. When I attempt to use Adobe Update Manager I get the same messages as above. You will see that my products are properly licensed and up to date. Have you any solution?

  • Snow Leopard refuses to install updates

Updates 10.6.1 and 10.6.2 refuse to install on imac. Installation gets to the selection of the drive to install on but refuses to see the mac hd as a legitimate drive. During installation of snow leopard it dumped an image of the previous installation onto my external hard drive (130gb) via the trash can. Deletion of trash can contents fixed this.

Why did snow leopard dump an image of my hard drive onto my external drive?
The updates were taken as downloads from your update section not from the automatic updates software.
How can you guarantee that the dodgy software will be fixed by yet another update which may or may not even recognise my hard drive. This is the first time my hard drive has been considered an unacceptable area for download installation. What caused it?
Why has Apple allowed this situation to develop?
I cannot afford to devote a month's download capacity to fixing dodgy software. Can you send me a disc? Last time I downloaded a file of this size I had 1200 dropouts. One can only imagine what that does to the quality of the download.
What is meant by using terminal to .....?

  • Latest update won't install

I'm not computer literate, so any help will have to be worded as if you're writing it for an idiot, which is not far from the truth!
Last night in trying to play World of Warcraft, I got an error message at the games logon and it said I should be using Quicktime 6.0 and to open my system preferences and do a software update. So I did. My Mac said everything was up to date, but when I launched Quicktime and did an software update check, it came back that there was a new update and if I wanted to install it. I did okay and the download started. Shortly thereafter, the installer launched and started to install. We're in business, i thought! But just as it was getting to the 99% and almost done installing, the installer quit saying it experienced an error and for me to try again later.
So I waited a few minutes and tried again. Again the same result. I waited a few more minutes, rebooted my system, tried to install again, same result.
Can someone please offer a solution for me? Why is my system refusing to install this new update on my machine?
Remember, you're dealing with a computer idiot here. So any suggestions should be broken down to second grade level!
    thanks in advance

Try repairing disk permissions first, then restart the computer, then try to do the upgrade again.
To repair disk permissions, go to Applications/Utilities and run Disk Utility, click on the Mac HD and click repair permissions. After that completes, restart and then run the update.
Repairing permissions can solve a lot of problems, it's usually one of the first things I try.
    Good luck!
    Paul.

  • OSX - Acrobat 9.5.4 update won't install

I've tried several times to install the latest update for Adobe Acrobat (to 9.5.4) and it starts out just fine.  Then it stays on the following screen for days at a time:
The option to quit the application is greyed out; I have to restart the computer to close the updater, but the update refuses to progress beyond that point.
Mac software updates are current, as are all other adobe updates.  I've updated successfully in the past.  I'm running Mac OSX version 10.6.8 on a Macbook.

I am assuming that the MAC process is similar to the PC. There should be an update option in the help menu. That is the simplest method of doing updates. If there are more than one available, install them in order. If not, you can go to the Adobe>Updates page for Acrobat on the MAC at
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/product.jsp?product=1&platform=Macintosh.
In that case you generally have to install the updates in order from the one you are at. Only a few can be skipped, which is what I expect you are doing. In general, the updates are not cummulative.

  • None of the selected updates could be installed.

Installed Lion yesterday. Also installed the Java update.
The software update feature on Lion is telling me to download updates for iTunes, HP printer stuff, etc.
However after it finishes downloading i get the following message:
"None of the selected updates could be installed." "Unexpected error"
Any ideas? Its driving me nuts.
    Thanks,
    Alfonso

I had the same problems, the only thing that worked for me, was to download the update, one by one. Odd I know, but I had problems with iWork Update 6, Remote client update, but when I did it one by one, they worked. However, iTunes 10.4 refuses to download what so ever, all I get is Installation Failed, see the manufacturer. Going to an Apple Store to see what the Geniuses can do.
