9 Suggestions for Garageband iPad

So after a short while messing around with this very fun app I have a few suggestions that would make it a whole load more viable (in my opinion of course), these are in no particular order.
1) Import audio track.
2) Export AIFF/WAV format.
3) Merge audio tracks option - Just merge em down to a single track
4) Freeze tracks (somewhat similar to above, but I'm talking the realtime effects, bake them down to a single track to allow more tracks to be handled).
5) Social networking - I want to be able to share my tracks with mates, jam around them, have them change things, send them back to me etc. Don't force me to write the app and set up a server to allow this.
6) Midi note editor. Sometimes I want to go into a track and just adjust that one errant note.
7) Range & Punch - I'd like a range indicator that can be used for setting punch in/out.
8) Sequencer - I know this sounds a bit silly, but think about it for a moment, it wouldn't be that much different from the Matrix unit in Propellerheads Reason (though personally I'd rather it was like OctaMED if anyone remembers that ld chestnut), you could use it to allow users to modify and create their own "smart instrument" patterns for e.g. smart drums or smart bass, or just sequence a track as a whole. Would be a very powerful addition.
9) EQ Per Track - OK, I know processor intensive, but if not EQ then Lo-Pass/Hi-Pass per track if at all possible. Would be very very welcome.
Now I just hope that the right people at Apple get to see this.

  • Suggestions for an iPad compatible projector

Looking for an iPad compatible projector

I have several X200s, with different types of screen, including a X200 with AFFS (but the glossy one) and two X200s with WXGA+ screens, though I never tried them in direct sunlight, I think the LED WXGA+ are slightly brigther, but the contrast and colours of the AFFS are much better; again, with the glossy model (the -110)
Before answering your questions it would be good to know which panel you have now? Some "s" models came with LED screens ex-factory. If you're sure you have a CCFL then an AFFS screen is plug and play. (
WXGA+ will give you more pixels, probably the best is trying to get a full assembly instead of the panel itself. You loose the webcam with such a screen (no way to put one under the bezel).
Generally speaking, if you have a CCFL panel and you want a LED one, you will need a different cable and LED subcard.
If you currently have a LED panel and want a WXGA LED, you keep your parts. If you want to go WXGA+ you need a different bezel.
I hope this helps and I didn't confuse you much :-D  (It's late now)

  • A Suggestion for Garageband that would make it unique

Not sure if this is the correct place to post this or what, but I just wanted to put this out there to the GarageBand community and creators if they are listening.
I started recording actually in a garage at my buddies house in the early 90's back then the cheapest thing to record on and do overdubs was a cassette 4-track recorders, they were very limiting, but there were a few cool things that I miss from that old tech that I haven't seen any one really address in the digital domain.
Reversing (flipping the tape over) essentially recording from the endpoint of the song to the beginning, the backing tracks play in reverse but your overdub is in normal, when you flip in back to normal the backing tracks play forward but your overdub is in reverse. This was my favorite thing to do with a tape machine and its a classic retro effect Hendrix and others used it, why not bring it to GarageBand as a option directly on the transporter buttons?
Master speed adjustment, for all the backing tracks where it pitches up or down on the transporter as well, but you can overdub at normal speed when adjust the pitch. You can easily get that Parliament Funkadelic sound, or Screwwed what ever you want to call it, its another fun trick. I know you can currently pitch every instrument individually, but that's not what I'm talking about.
Basically these were some of the only tricks we had up our sleeves back in the tape days and I wish they were still available to us making creative music. I understand GarageBand is Apples entry level audio recording software and I respect that, But I think that these options align with that position, as they are simple basic and intuitive. Being integrated directly into how GarageBand works would bring back some basic nostalgia from the home recording days that lots of people enjoyed, and have since lost. I think it would make the music making process seem a lot more of a creative organic experience and may even attract a lot of older users to venture into the digital computer realm, I can already see it as the iPad replaces all multi track recorders. I love your software please consider these options in your next version of GarageBand.
    Thanks

MMM, Thanks for your interest, but I'm not sure if you read my post completely. I am not interested in the tonal character of the medium of analog tape, and like you I overwhelmingly prefer the advantages of a DAW.
I am suggesting that designers of DAW's integrate the reverse and pitch technique in a way that emulates how tape transporters functioned. This would continue to exploit the possibility's offered by digital.  In fact a good bit of the possibility's we have been given by digital are recreating the tools we use to have before the DAW,  Acoustic space emulators, Plate & Spring reverb simulators, compressor simulators, pre-amp simulators, EQ simulators, the list goes on. These options just seemed to be left out.
Listen to the guitar solo on Red Hot Chili Peppers - Give it Away, they didn't use a computer to do that sound, what they did was play the tape till they got to the end of the solo, flip the tape over and record in the opposite direction, from the end of the solo section to the beginning. So when you are recording backwards the first stuff you put down ends up last. Options today are to record forward then reverse your recording after the fact, or use some sorta backwards simulator, neither of these give you the experience of recording how they did it in the old days, and then adding effects to the backwards track, it gets really cool.

  • IOS 5 suggestions for 2 iPad household

My husband and I both have iPads. We share a laptop and iTunes with the same apple ID. With the new iOS 5 I'll sync laptop, iPhone and iPad. My husband will really only use iPad and iTunes to download music.
Should he get his own apple ID? I'm not sure if he'll benefit from iCloud? Or should he upgrade to iOS 5 but not use iCloud?
    Suggestions please!

You're quite welcome, and thanks for marking question as answered. Be sure to connect the iPad to AC during the upgrade.

  • Suggestion for next ipad or the one after.

I like to mix music (for fun mostly) but there is no tablet on the market with 2 sound outputs ( 2x stereo), i know there is a split cable but that only gives u mono.
The DJ market is huge and if u are the only tablet who has that feature it will attract lots of extra buyers i would think.
What do you (dj) readers think?

  • Suggestions for new instruments on GarageBand for iPad

Two ideas my friends and I have been talking about is for the next update for GarageBand should definitely include Smart Brass layed out the same way as Smart Strings with different types of ensembles for jazz, concert, etc. Then the same deal for woodwind instruments. There should also be new drums called Marching Equipment. Snares, tenors, bass drums, and crash cymbals to design your own cadences or with brass, even your own drum corp show. Another idea that is a little more far fetched is to making something for dubstep and bass drops. Just some ideas I hope get seen and produced for the next update.

You need to use this route: GarageBand for iOS Feedback.

  • Latency setting for garageband on iPad

I tried using iRig HD, Garageband, iPad 4 and Airplay/Apple TV to output guitar to Home theatre.
As per usual with Apple things It worked and sounded fine, except there was too much latency
Is there a setting for latency in the iPad version of Garageband?

A little hunting suggests that, at this stage, GarageBand only supports midi in, but not midi out. However other apps are available to act as external midi drivers.

  • I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great

I cannot send an email from my iPad 2? No problem receiving, why does this happen? Have tried the suggestions for setting up email and after doing the sync mail through iTunes receiving worked great but still cannot send? Any help would be great!

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works.  Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up.  Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp.  Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp.  Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.
    Kep trying.

is there an EASY way to submit podcasts to the itunes store? i've tried creating podcasts in garageband, then somewhere after wordpress  itunes  doesn't recognize the feed.
my process has been (i am open to suggestions for other free and EASY services/methods):
garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
    share to itunes.
    drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
    i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
    still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

if anyone has a super EASY process, i would LOVE to know what it is. EASY, meaning no html and also free. there are many free online storage systems available, many of which i currently use. the above process was just me trying to figure it out, if you have an easier method, please share. thank you so much!

  • Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

Hi, I'm currently browsing the web looking for a case that is compatible with the smart cover for the iPad 2. If anyone has any suggestions I would be glad to read all opinions! Thanks!

I love the Smart Cover. It fits the way I work and I love the instant on/off and the always available screen protection. I wouldn't use my iPad without it.
I got a Cover Buddy for the back, because I wanted the back to be less slippery when I'm using the iPad in the classroom, teaching. I picked this back cover because it's VERY lightweight, easy to get on or off and, protects the corners, has accurate cutouts for the ports, and (in the colors) has a rubberized surface:

I have a Built NY "hoody" slip on case with a hard internal shell that I use when I'm in the field and I can put the iPad with the Smart Cover and the Cover Buddy inside this . But for everyday use, the Smart Cover with the Cover Buddy is a terrific combination.

  • Best recommended mixing board with usb or lightning output to iMac or iPad for GarageBand?

    hi,
set-up - 2010 iMac w/ intel core i7 processor @ 2.8 GHz, 16 GB RAM, latest mac os x 10.9 "maverick" update and the latest version updated of garage band; also, iPad third generation 64 GB wi-fi only with the latest version of iOS 7.0.3 and iOS GarageBand app v. 2.0 (3090.25). i also have the adapter apple sold for the iPad that gives it a usb interface - this was for usb sticks that had photos, but i'm hoping it'll work well with GarageBand also.
i'm wanting to do some podcast audio recording with multiple inputs (audio round table discussion setting), as well as some home studio recording (mostly acoustic guitar work). i already have several good mics.
i am looking for a mix board that will interface well with digital output to the GarageBand on the iMac, preferably to both the iMac and the GarageBand app on the iPad also. i want the mix board to have some form of _modern_ digital out, preferably usb (but could work, maybe, with lightning/thunder). the iPad is for when i want to record something on the road for a podcast, the iMac stays in my home office/studio. i'm looking for a mix board fitting these specs that i could pick up fairly reasonably on ebay or the like.
i've looked a bit at tascam and alesis. i was wondering what folks here might recommend and what their experience is? also, if not a mix board, then what would you recommend for a multiple digital interface input of the mics, say four or five at a time, going into the iMac or iPad for live recording?
i look forward to your advisement, stories and tips on this. thank you.
    best,

It looks like these boards are "class compliant" USB, meaning there are no drivers to install, it's basic plug-and-play.
To use it in Garageband you would have to go to (Garageband) preferences and set it up as the recording/playback device.  The Mac's system preferences have nothing to do with a (decent) audio program's audio device selection.
    Garageband probably defaults to built-in-audio.
The problem you will have is that the USB output is probably stereo only. You can record multiple inputs, but only as a stereo Mix. (or two mono tracks). I say probably because I don't really know. It doesn't prevent you from laying down tracks one (stereo) or two (mono) at a time.

  • HT1677 safari suggested sites for the ipad

Is there a way to turn off the suggested sites bar in safari?
The sites it's suggesting are ones I no longer visit.
    Thanks.

If you mean in the url field itself, no you cannot remove the suggetsed sites. You start typing and suggestions pop up. If you mean in the search field you can try resetting Safari, but I don't think that will totally clear everything. Restoring to factory settings will clear everything because it will erase the iPad, but thats a bit drastic just to avoid seeing suggestions for sites that you no longer visit.

  • I updated my Mac to Osxmaverickx and numbers to the newest version.  I change a numbers page on the mac.  Try to open this doc via icloud on the ipad 1.  Apple suggest me to update to the new numbers software.  This is not aviable for the ipad 1.

I installed the new numbers on the imac.
    I updated a simple spreadsheat.
Tried to open via icloud on ipad-
Apple suggest to update to the new numbers.  This is not aviable for the ipad 1.
    1) Why Can Ipad 1 users not open icloud docs created by the new numbers on the mac ?
    2) What's the use of mobile devices when they don't work
    3) Can I open this docs via a google application ?

    Drag...
Where did you get your copy of numbers on the mac?  You best go back to your old version of numbers on your mac.
Perhaps it's something to do with icloud. try dropbox.  Try running the spreadsheet through NeoOffice calc on the Mac.
It's the world of software.  When you use vintage stuff, you need to get more creative or spend money on an upgrade. Apple is lacking in the legacy world.
Now you be the time to come up with a backup plan for your mac.
